I have a requirement for a resilient MSMQ setup on VMWare ESX5.
I am aware that we cannot allow the queue storage to be shared as it must be installed on physical disk mount, e.g. it cant be an CIFS or DFS Share.
The following constraints apply:
We don't use windows clustering
We dont't rely on hot standbys
Is there a way I can replicate the…
I'd like to migrate my storage server from Linux (Debian) to FreeBSD. Biggest part of this is restoring backups saved on Linux to tape volumes on the newly installed FreeBSD.
Unfortunately I don't have anywhere to test this on at the moment but I'd like to ask you if you're aware of any incompatiblities or Bacula specific settings that should…
I use tmux on my server and recently I found to my cost that ctrl-d will exit tmux and lose all the session information, my intention was to simply end the ssh session but failed to notice I was still in tmux until too late.
I am aware that I should be careful in future when using ctrl-d but I wondered if there a way to prevent tmux for…
Is it possible to "pause" an animated gif file in Google Chrome? If so, how do I do it?
I've tried Esc without luck. I'm aware that other browsers can do this using the Esc key
I thought I saw a similar question on here before but couldn't find it - close as dupe if you can find it
How often am I allowed to change the memory size for a Windows 7 VM (guest) before it requires reactivation?
Other than using Snapshots - is it possible to make Windows 7 aware that it's running inside a VM and ignore changes to the memory size for Product Activation?

I'm well aware that running tomcat6 is really bad from a security point of view - and opens the box it is running on to all kinds of security risks and attack vectors. That said:
When I change the entry in the /etc/init.d/tomcat6 to
TOMCAT6_USER=root
and then run
sudo /etc/init.d/tomcat6 start
I get
[fail]
and nothing is…
It seems that Apache's DirectorySlash directive is causing issues when using it behind Amazon ELB on HTTPS protocol.
So say I access a URL:
https://myserver.com/svn/MyProject
it would redirect me to:
http://myserver.com/svn/MyProject/
My ELB configuration forwards port 443 to port 80 on Apache, but Apache should be aware of…
Opensolaris b134: unable to set packages catalog
this system is connected to internet via proxy, while this works on browser, how to make console/terminal aware?

When you press the v keyboard shortcut in Google Reader, it opens a new tab. Regardless of the setting "When a new tab or window is opened, make it active" setting (Under Preferences Tabs), it becomes the frontmost tab when opened.
Is there a way to have all tabs open in the background, like when you Cmd+click?
(I'm…
Ideally, I'd like to be able to do this through a batch file or VB script, so I can schedule it to run at different times of the day (dark wallpaper at night vs. light wallpaper at day).
I am aware of the many applications which could do this, but I prefer to keep only necessary applications running in the background.
I absolutely lived on the ' shortcut in Firefox, which allows you to do a find that applies to text links, and it focuses on them so you can hit Enter and proceed to that link.
Chrome only has ctrl-f which focuses on links as well, but you have to ESC out and then hit Enter, which is not as immediate as the Firefox…
I'm looking for a cloud software solution that:
Can run on both server and desktop machines;
Virtualizes hardware and has the option of exposing each real
machine to the cloud;
Allows a VM to be "locked" to a set of real hardware capabilities and stay there until moved (e.g. a user's "real" desktop);
Allows a VM…
Is there an application that can give me mouse gestures across all programs on Windows 7? I'm aware of StrokeIt, but it seems to have some nasty bugs on 64-bit versions of Windows. (Or maybe it's just mine, I don't know, but it crashed a lot last time I used it.)
I'm aware of the existing debate on cable management arms. For those people who DO use cable management arms, do you put Fiber into the arms? It looks like I'm fine on minimum bend radii, but am looking for additional opinions before I do anything.

When I run configtest on our Apache server, I get the following:
`Syntax error on line 1023 of /www/conf/httpd.conf:
Invalid command 'SSLEnable', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration`
I know this part of the configuration works. Is there a trick to make configtest…
Hey guy,
I know that you can start a background job with Bash doing foo &. However, the best way I know to put a foreground job to the background is to do Ctrl+z to pause it then bg 1 to resume it in the background.
Is there a faster way? Some Ctrl+Something key combination I'm not aware of?
Thanks!
I was told that mysql user, similar to root user, by default "has no password".
Not an empty password, but rather "no password". I wasn't aware this situation was possible - I thought every user on a linux had to have a password.
Am I wrong? Can you point me to a link that explain this?

I would like to know a distribution independent way to connect to WPA2 wireless networks.
Do the wireless tools support wpa2? iwconfig and such?
Or is it necessary to use wpa_supplicant? Having to edit a config file every time if changing between many networks is quickly frustrating.
I am aware of tools like…
I want Firefox to redirect bad and broken links to Google search instead of the "Can't find the server" page. If it takes an add-on, that's okay.
When you enter a bad or broken link in Google Chrome, the browser takes you to a search results page with all possibly relevant links to the request attempted.

Has anyone done, or is aware of any, calculations to compare the cost of power and cooling compared to the cost of hardware (servers) in a typical data center? This is to compute a true total cost of ownership of self-hosting servers. Of course real TCO includes:
hardware_cost + power + cooling + rental +…
I'm considering changing the IP on a 2008 Domain Controller, anything that I should be aware of to look out for?
Will be doing this on a Saturday night to, leases renew every 24 hours so by Monday morning all the machines will have valid DHCP leases with correct DNS servers. Have a list of all machines…
