• Error installing Windows7 64 bits on VirtualBox

  I am trying to set up Windows in Virtual Box, so I don't need to reboot in the rare occasion that I actually need it. The problem is, Virtual Box doesn't preform any errors when I insert the 32bit installation CD but when I try to use the 64bit installation; What!? I am already using the installation disc! I've checked my BIOS to see if I have SVM (AMD's version of VT) disabled and all I see is "Enabled" I have a K9N6PGM2-V2 motherboard A Triple Core AMD Athlon II A Nvdia NForce 430 integrated graphics card 4GB of RAM An 80GB IDE And a 1TB SATA I don't think the last three specifications matter but just in case XP I am pretty sure the CD isn't broken ( I am going to make sure in just a moment ), what could be the cause to this problem? Edit: The 64bit installation CD is not broken, but I found out when trying to install from the 32bit version that it's trying to upgrade, not preform a fresh install - Odd.

  I am having the same issue as posted here Prolific PL2303 and Ubuntu 12.04 (only in english). The usb to serial adapter worked fine on 11.10 but after upgrade to 12.04 it is not recognized in lusb. if i connect the device after boot and then run: dmesg | grep tty i get: [ 101.305275] usb 2-1.4.4: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB3 seems like it is working fine, but a running the command few seconds later adds the line: [ 107.788672] pl2303 ttyUSB3: pl2303 converter now disconnected from ttyUSB3 after this the device is no longer detected at all. any suggestions??

• How do I fix DNS resolving which doesn't work after upgrading to Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy)

  After upgrade to 13.10 my DNS resolving fails. It seams the DNS servers which I get by DHCP (LAN) are not used. I could temporary solve the problem by adding nameserver 8.8.8.8 to /etc/resolv.conf. But then the intranet hosts still can not be resolved. When clicking on the Connection Information menu item on the network indicator, the Primary DNS and the Secondary DNS are set correctly. But my computer seams not to use them. So my questions: What should I put into resolv.conf, if anything? How to find out, which name servers my computer is querying? Where to look next, to find out, why name servers received by DHCP are not used?

• MySQL 5.1 implicit cast from now() to a date field

  Hello, I have an issue with MySQL 5.1. A datetime data type isn't implicitly casted to match a date column. SELECT * FROM my_table WHERE my_date_field = NOW() This request doesn't return any rows using MySQL 5.1, but works well with version 5.0. If we use CURDATE() instead of NOW() it works both in MySQL 5.0 and MySQL 5.1. If the cast is explicit (CAST(NOW() AS DATE)), it also works both in MySQL 5.0 and MySQL 5.1. The problem only appears with implicit cast from datetime to date. Doesn't anyone already encountered this issue or has a clue about how to solve this problem? I know it's not the best to use NOW() instead of CURTIME(), but this isn't the question here. It is currently used in an application and the purpose is to avoid rewriting everything. Thanks!

  I read on the planet that apt-btrfs-snapshot would be available for Natty. The brief description of what it does sounds very nice: it will automatically create filesystem snapshot (of everything but /home) when apt installs/removes/upgrades. With the apt-btrfs-snapshot cli app its easy to list/remove/rollback the snapshots But before I convert my entire life to btrfs for the sole purpose of gaining a built-in backup system, can anybody tell me how btrfs's snapshots work. To my layman's brain, it sounds like this would eat a devastating amount of disk space if you're taking snapshots every time you install or upgrade something (I do this more than once a day). I assume the system is smarter than I'm allowing it but I really don't know. How do the snapshots work?

• Xcode: code loses syntax coloring

  I find that in various situations Objective-C code in Xcode 3.1 (Leopard) can fail to get appropriate syntax coloring after typing or lose coloring that it had. This isn't just a "refresh" issue with new custom symbols -- but affects Cocoa framework symbols as well. Sometimes CMD-a to select all text on the code page will make the coloring (re)appear, sometimes double-clicking on a line to select it will work, sometimes I have to add/delete a space in a symbol to get that symbol to (re)color. Rebuilding, or closing/reopening the project may or may not work. Is this a known issue with Xcode? For something so annoying to me, I'm not finding the plentiful discussions of it on SO and elsewhere I'd expect. And is there any command to force global syntax recoloring?

  I've seen -1 used in various APIs, most commonly when searching into a "collection" with zero-based indices, usually to indicate the "not found" index. This "works" because -1 is never a legal index to begin with. It seems that any negative number should work, but I think -1 is almost always used, as some sort of (unwritten?) convention. I would like to limit the scope to Java at least for now. My questions are: What are the official words from Sun regarding using -1 as a "special" return value like this? What quotes are there regarding this issue, from e.g. James Gosling, Josh Bloch, or even other authoritative figures outside of Java? What were some of the notable discussions regarding this issue in the past?

• Not able to install ubuntu 12.10

  When I try to install Ubuntu on my computer I get this error: /var/cache/apt/archives/compiz-gnome_1% 3a0.9.8.4+brz 3412-0ubuntu0.1_i386.deb and /var/cache/apt/archives/metacity-common_1% 3a2.34.8-0ubuntu4_all.deb Ok, since I'm not a whiz at installing linux or understanding it...When these two things popped up it stated that the file was corrupted and there were too many errors to complete the install. Now, does that help? I had Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on my computer and wanted to upgrade, now I have nothing on my desktop and when I tried to install by using my usb pen, nothing happen and I also have it on dvd and tried to install from that and nothing still happen. So maybe someone can tell me why it's not installing on my desktop? I have it on my laptop with Windows.

• Accessing HTML 5 Video Progress Event with jQuery

We have been able to access the progress event with plain js as seen below but when trying to access this with jQuery we get undefined in console. • ASP.Net 4.0 - Response required in SiteMap building?

  I'm running into an issue upgrading a project to .Net 4.0...and having trouble finding any reason for the issue (or at least, the change causing it). Given the freshness of 4.0, not a lot of blogs out there for issues yet, so I'm hoping someone here has an idea. Preface: this is a Web Forms application, coming from 3.5 SP1 to 4.0. In the Application_Start event we're iterating through the SiteMap and constructing routes based off data there (prettifying URLs mostly with some utility added), that part isn't failing though...or at least isn't not getting that far. It seems that calling the SiteMap.RootNode (inside application_start) causes 4.0 to eat it, since the XmlSiteMapProvider.GetNodeFromXmlNode method has been changed, looking in reflector you can see it's hitting HttpResponse.ApplyAppPathModifier here: str2 = HttpContext.Current.Response.ApplyAppPathModifier(str2); HttpResponse wasn't used at all in this method in the 2.0 CLR, so what we had worked fine, in 4.0 though, that method is called as a result of this stack: [HttpException (0x80004005): Response is not available in this context.] System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider.GetNodeFromXmlNode(XmlNode xmlNode, Queue queue) System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider.ConvertFromXmlNode(Queue queue) System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider.BuildSiteMap() System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider.get_RootNode() System.Web.SiteMap.get_RootNode() Since Response isn't available here in 4.0, we get an error. To reproduce this, you can narrow the test case down to this in global: protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { var s = SiteMap.RootNode; //Kaboom! //or just var r = Context.Response; //or var r = HttpContext.Current.Response; //all result in the same "not available" error } Question: Am I missing something obvious here? Or, is there another event added in 4.0 that's recommended for anything related to SiteMap on startup? For anyone curious/willing to help, I've created a very minimal project (a default VS 2010 ASP.Net 4.0 site, all the bells & whistles removed and only a blank sitemap and the Application_Start code added). • Linux repository contains latest tools for synaptic

  I'm using backTrack5R3. And I 've installed Synaptic as well as ubuntu Software center. Synaptic is very easy to use and gives wide range of details for the packages that I'm going to download. But the problem is it lack of lot of new files and information. Like vlc or adobe reader. The latest stable version of vlc is 2.0. but synaptic only installs, 1.1. And it don't find adobe. I would like to get new versions of them. What is the best way/source to update new files? EDIT: I mean after performing update & upgrade synaptic still contains vlc 1.0.6 which is outdated. I'm looking for a way to get new/best source.

  Firstly I understand OpenId is for authentication and OAuth is for authorisation and unlike other questions on the site I am not asking which should be used for which but if anyone can advise a solution for my issue. I want to allow users to login to my site via their LinkedIn/Twitter/Facebook account once logged in say via LinkedIn they could also then authorise their Twitter and Facebook account as a optional login method. This would allow the user to authenticate via any of the three but end up with their user account on my site as the end result. I also want to use the authorisation they have provided to get basic user details (profile pic/name etc) and post status updates. I don't want to ask a user to login with their account via openId then have to authorise the same account again via oauth to allow my site to publish to their service feed and have to do this for each of the 3 services.   I’m using control that needs to be register to asynchronous events. The events will be raised in the UI thread using the ISynchronizeInvoke interface implemented by WinForms controls I can’t register to the event at the constructor because it will allow calling the event handler before the control is fully created. during which calls to ISynchronizeInvoke are not allowed. Solution to that problem is to use the perform the asynchronous event registration from an event handler to the HandleCreated instead of registering from the constructor. however, this poses another issue, in some scenations the HandleCreated event is raised multiple times as result of change at the control state. For example, each changing of the “RightToLeft” property causes a WMCreate message that cause raising the “HandleCreated” event. How can I prevent the multiply times of event rising? Is there is another way to know when the control is created and display for the first time? I can keep a boolean flag in the HandleCreated, however it feels like a hack and I am wondering if there is a better way to handle this issue.

• Updates broke my themes/shell [Ubuntu 12.04 running Gnome 3 ]

  I am running gnome-session 3.4.2.1. After the latest updates (listed below) my theme regressed to what looks like tango - not sure. Am unable to change it using Gnome-tweak tool or the display settings. I am also unable to change the wallpaper. Here's what it looks like: Synaptic: Chromium and this is the wallpaper page even though I have selected the wallpaper, it actually does not change. This same problem occurred on my personal computer, and one other computer I have, all running the same software/config. The interesting thing is that while Gnome 3 and Unity are affected, Cinnamon is not. What I've done so far: purged and re-installed both gnome 3 and Unity- no change noted. So, how do I fix this? • LOAD DATA INFILE not working in mariadb

  Iam trying to migrate from mysql to mariadb. On this time I can face an issue with mariadb. When I can trying to load a data file into a table, it shows an error like : SQL Error (29): File 'C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/Local Settings/Temp/SAMPLE/DATA_TEMP1351761841668/SampleFile0' not found (Errcode: 2) But the file already exists in the path.... Another one point is that the same command successfully works with MySQL. Is MariaDB has any permission issue? Login as Administrator. See below my query : load data infile "'C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/Local Settings/Temp/SAMPLE/DATA_TEMP1351761841668/SampleFile0" into table SAMPLETABLE; When changing the path loke "C:/SampleFile0", its working properly. From Administrator folder it doesn't working. Can anyone help me in this regard??? Iam a newone in MariaDB.

They did not show my comment on their forum( I would name it censorship, not moderation), but a few days ago I’ve received an email, recommending “try logging out of the app on your iPad, and back in again.” Their suggestion helped,  but I don’t understand, why it is not posted as a recommendation on their support site.So I decided to try InstAPaper on my iPad, Previously I’ve used it for Kindle. I never considered it before on iPad, because there were no free demo and I was very satisfied with RIL free and then RIL Pro. Currently InstAPaper cost $3, so the price is not an issue.I’ve checked that it has most of features that I am using(e.g. renaming, folders) and I am quite happy with it now. Actually I am using Pocket (or RIL free) for old bookmarks( I have 1000+ stored on my iPad) and for new bookmarks I am using InstAPaper.Having a solid experience with RIL/Pocket I’ve created a list of suggestions to Marco Arment to implement.1. Some pages stored in InstAPaper have removed essential sections of the text. E.g in many blogs comments are not stored in  InstAPaper. Some pages lost almost all of important links (e.g. http://www.lib.rus.ec/a/32416 -sorry, in Russian). RIL/Pocket has 2 modes to store offline- Web view and Article view. Web View includes all links/images of the original page, but it’s very reliable. Article view suppose to strip unrelated information, but often corrupts the content. I prefer to use offline Web view.InstAPaper should also support offline Web view, in case if stripped view removes important part of content.2.  Black full screen Saving on iPad Safari is very annoying. After user pressed a bookmark, the saving has some delay and then for a few seconds prevents from reading the text.Would be better to show as message on the top part(as in Pocket ). I am surprised, that  a full screen popup was  implemented recently as a desired feature. 3.There are no comments allowed on http://blog.instapaper.com/. I would prefer to post some of these notes as comments on http://blog.instapaper.com/ rather than write them in my blog and then send link to Marco.(I found recommendation how to add support of comments on tumblr at http://www.tumblr.com/help, but then realized that Marko was the lead developer ofTumblr.)4. Also there is no support forum. I understand that maintenance of the forum ican be a hassle, but stackexchange fSome time ago I’ve described the issues that I’ve had since a new version of Read It Later, named Pocket, was introduced.I’ve waited with hope for a new upgrade, but I had a huge disappointment with the latest version 16 June 2012. It didn’t fixed any of the two major problems, that I  experienced since new Pocket was introduced- orums can be referred on  http://www.instapaper.com/main/support page, i.e.http://webapps.stackexchange.com/search?q=Instapaper  or http://apple.stackexchange.com/search?q=Instapaper 5. Tags are more convenient than folders. i.e. an ability for the same article to have more than one tag. Also creating of new folders is not supported offline, which is an annoying limitation.6. I would like to have a narrow list - additionally to existing list modes have a subject only list or subject+site list to show more list items on a screen.7. Limit of 500 offline articles sounds quite big, but my RIL list exceeded 1000, so it could be a issue in the future.8. Search button on iPad version is visible, but doesn’t work- it forces to buy Premium subscription. I think, that it’s not correct. If the button in a paid version is visible and enabled, it should  provide  a working functionality, e.g. search in article names only. And leave full-text search for the premium support.9..Copy URL is an important operation and deserves to be in a first level of Action menu, rather than in Share sub-menu.I’ve also have comment re post http://www.marco.org/2011/04/28/removed-instapaper-free. Marco Arment  explained, why he doesn’t provide free version of Instapaper.  I believe that he is loosing essential part of his customers. When I decided which of iPad application to choose, I’ve selected RIL, because I was able to play with free version, and I liked it. I didn’t have a chance to compare RIL and InstAPaper on iPad, so I’ve bought  RIL pro. For a user there is no point to pay even $3 , if there are similar free product, that user can try and see, is it suitable for him/her.I’ve also played with Readability. It doesn’t have folders or tags(which is very important for me), but nicely supports full text search

• KnockoutJS 2.3.0 - Uncaught Error: You cannot apply bindings multiple times to the same element.

I had some dynamically added DOM elements and re-applying bindings worked before. It always seemed like a workaround/hack, but now Knockout is telling me that I shouldn’t do it. The quick way to fix this is to use ko.cleanNode($(‘#id’) and this works. A different/possibly better way, as suggested by x0n might be to use templates and Knockout’s template binding (<script type=’text/html’>…</script>).   Thanks again to the StackOverflow community for quickly providing me with the solution. • Trouble using genericra to integrate activemq and glassfish when using failover protocol

  Hi, I'm attempting to use activemq in glassfish using the genericra resource adapter provided with glassfish 2.1. I have found a few pages with helpful information including http://activemq.apache.org/sjsas-with-genericjmsra.html. I have actually had success and been able to get MDBs to use activemq as their JMS provider, but I'm running into an issue as I'm trying to do some more complicated configuration. I want to set up a master-slave configuration, which would require my clients to use a brokerURL of failover:(tcp://broker1:61616,tcp://broker2:61616). In order to do this, I set the following property when calling asadmin create-resource-adapter-config (I have to escape '=' and ':'): ConnectionFactoryProperties=brokerURL\=failover\:(tcp\://127.0.0.1\:61616,tcp://127.0.0.1\:61617) However, I am now getting a StringIndexOutOfBoundsException when my application starts up. I suspect the comma in between the two URLs is the culprit, since this works fine: brokerURL\=failover\:(tcp\://127.0.0.1\:61616) Just wondering if anyone has dealt with this issue before. Also wondering if there is a better way to integrate with glassfish than using the generic resource adapter.

• how to change link url on the web browser's status bar.

  I already read many article about this issue in here, SO. I just want to discuss how to do it. NOT the moral issue. -- for example. at the google search webpage. before I click the link, the link does not indicate the google url. but After I click the link with shift-key, the url on the status bar is changed. this mean the google webpage indicate 'Fake URL'. the google compressed script is too difficult to read and analyze. # edited The second url should work on ie8 even if I click with ctrl key.
