• Can someone explain/annotate this Ruby snippet with comments?

  Could someone please add comments to this code? Or, alternatively, what would be the pseudocode equivalent of this Ruby code? • win7: app crashing/hanging on "save as"-dialog

  hi all, now this is really annoying - i'm having a global problem in win7: when using the system's "save as"-filedialog, the main app will just hang. the mouse-cursor is showing progress, the whole app is hanging and i need to terminate it manually. it's happening with every app! (notepad, word, graphics app). i'm assuming it's something with the system enumerating the harddisk-drivenames or something. any idea how to fix this? btw - when viewing the problem details - it's telling the module - it's msonsext.dll looks like some office thing to me. thanks

• Can extension methods be applied to interfaces?

  Hi, Is it possible to apply an extension method to an interface? (C# question) That is for example to achieve the following: create an ITopology interface create an extension method for this interface (e.g. public static int CountNodes(this ITopology topologyIf) ) then when creating a class (e.g. MyGraph) which implements ITopology, then it would automatically have the Count Nodes extension. This way the classes implementing the interface would not have to have a set class name to align with what was defined in the extension method.

  I am trying to test my webservice using SOAPUI (the free version). For testing concurrency, I wished to fire concurrent threads from SOAPUI onto the service. But with the options, the thred count increases gradually (even in the burst mode). The machine where SOAPUI is installed is a WinXP machine. Can I actually do the concurrency testing? If so how? Please guide me.

I use jQuery to allow the the user to select which videos they would like to add to their profile. When i submit the form i would like to populate the hidden field with a comma separated list of video ids. Everything works except that when i try to set the value of the field, in the controller on post, the field comes back empty. I am using the jQuery ajax form plugin. What am i doing wrong that is not allowing the value i set in the field to be sent to the server?

• What do you do when you need whole-words search in Firefox?

  Example: I am looking to see if "arg" is a special keyword in Lua. I go to the Lua reference manual at http://www.lua.org/manual/5.1/manual.html. I search for "arg". I find hundreds of occurrences of the word "argument(s)" or "vararg". Any ideas? I know Firefox won't implement whole words as a core feature (something about cluttering up the ui... argh...), and I couldn't find a good addon that implemented this well.

• Calculate pixels within a polygon

  In an assignment for school do we need to do some image recognizing, where we have to find a path for a robot. So far have we been able to find all the polygons in the image, but now we need to generate a pixel map, that be used for an astar algorithm later. We have found a way to do this, show below, but the problem is that is very slow, as we go though each pixel and test if it is inside the polygon. So my question is, are there a way that we can generate this pixel map faster? • JQUERY, scrollTo, after scrolling down, the page won't let me scroll up for a second... Y?

  I'm using the following JQUERY to attach an even to a link in the header, which essentially scrolls to the bottom of the page: $('#comment-count-btn').click(function(){ $('html,body').scrollTo('#comment-wrapper', 500); }); Problem is, that it scrolls all the way to the bottom of the page (which is correct), but then when I try to scroll up a tad, the scroll bar jumps, as if it's locked for a little bit. Any ideas?

• Trying to filter a ListView with runQueryOnBackgroundThread but nothing happens - what am I missing?

  I have a list of countries in a database. I have created a select country activity that consists of a edit box for filtering and a list which displays the flag and country name. When the activity starts the list shows the entire list of countries sorted alphabetically - works fine. When the customer starts typing into the search box I want the list to be filtered based on their typing. My database query was previously working in an AutoCompleteView (I just want to switch to a separate text box and list) so I know my full query and my constraint query are working. What I did was add a TextWatcher to the EditText view and every time the text is changed I invoke the list's SimpleCursorAdapter runQueryOnBackgroundThread with the edit boxes text as the constraint. The trouble is the list is never updated. I have set breakpoints in the debugger and the TextWatcher does make the call to runQueryOnBackgroundThread and my FilterQueryProvider is called with the expected constraint. The database query goes fine and the cursor is returned. • Is there a way to insert a formatted calculation into Excel 2010 without using an image?

  I am maintaining a list of database column names, notes, and their calculations in an Excel 2010 spreadsheet. The calculations are included so as to document how to derive the values for the various columns and not for calculations within the spreadsheet. I have been entering the calculations into the cells simply as unformatted text like so: 100 - ((FiscalYearRegionConsumption - BaselineRegionConsumption) / (GoalRegionConsumption - BaselineRegionConsumption)) * 100 However, for long and/or complex calculations this could become rather unreadable. To improve readability and comprehension I would like to "pretty" print the calculation in an Excel cell. This would result in formatting that would like like this: The only solution I have come up with is to: Write the calculation in another application such as Word Take a screenshot of said calculation Past the screenshot into Excel The primary concern with this approach is maintenance. Should the calculation change or need correction I have to update two different sources of information. Is there a better way included a formatted calculation into an Excel cell?

• How to share malicious source code?

  I have a client whose site (not one i developed) is infected by a trojan/malicious code. I have asked him to send me the dirty files in a zip but either gmail or unzipping is blocking them. I've tried text files and word files, and i'm suspecting many different file types will be blocked the same way, either by my mail client, anti-malware software, browser etc. (which is normal). Do you know a way he could share those lines so i can read them and do some research about the malicious source code? An image/screenshot of his text editor would be an idea but the files are long + i'd prefer to be able to copy/paste from them. Thank you!

• Software for printing small photos on larger paper with easy layout snapping

  Have some photos and pictures to print (graphs, but that doesn't matter here). So far when printing I inserted them in MS Word, played with layout on the paper, and after half a day, finally managed to get it just right. Usually then, the power runs out :-) Anyways, does anyone know of any software which enables me to easily put up some kind of a layout (one under the other, or some rectangular grid) where I can just "snap" photos next to each other, before printing the whole thing. I know I can do that in pretty much any photo editing program, but the problem is that that pixel hunting takes time ... and is generally a very annoying process, expecially when you don't want to edit the photos in mind, just print them out. Anyways, I'm sure you get the general idea ... Suggestions ?

  The compare function in Word 2007 is very handy -- is there a similar capability in Excel 2007? I can't seem to find it... The documents I'm trying to compare are essentially two versions of the same content. Unfortunately, "Track Changes" has not been used. If file comparison not a built-in feature, what alternatives are out there for doing this? • Office 2010 always reconfiguring itself on startup

  I've just installed Office 2010 Professional Plus (upgrading from Office 2007). It works fine under my admin account, but when I login with my wifes non-admin account, every time I open a document or start an app (Word, Excel, Publisher ...) Office 2010 goes through its configuration process (starting the the standard install dialog and then running the bootstrap process) before it loads the app - which wastes 2-3 minutes. Once it's done this, the app runs fine and I can make setting changes that are remembered when it restarts, but I can't work out why it thinks it needs to configure the app each time. Any thoughts?

• Question about ITextUndoHistory returned from TryGetHistory

  Everytime the IWpfTextView's TextBuffer changes I am trying to get the history's redostack and undostack and simply checking the count. When doing this I am encountering a "Method not supported exception" when trying to access the two stacks. Am I retrieving the history incorrectly or does VS not want me seeing/editing the contents of the stacks? I can post the code if necessary... Thanks, Nick

• de-assign alt + right arrow

  I'm trying to map View.NavigateBackward and View.NavigateBackward like so: View.NavigateBackward = Alt + LeftArrow View.NavigateForward = Alt + RightArrow Pretty simple to do in Visual Studio with the Keyboard Options dialog. OK so I've assigned the shortcuts and the NavigateBackward one is working. But NavigateForward, which used to be assigned to Edit.CompleteWord, is staying with its old assignment. I've checked that Edit.CompleteWord is assigned to 'Ctrl+K, W' but the Alt+RightArrow is still behaving as complete word. Is there something special about the arrow keys that I can't assign them? I want to do this so the mouse buttons behave the same in VS 2010 and my web browser. Works fine for the back button, but the forward button won't re-assign properly. Suggestions?

  In a workbook I have 7 sheets(Totals and then Mon to Sat),I want to extract rows which have the word "CHEQ" in its cell (this is a dropdown list with two options-CHEQ/PAID)from all sheets. On my front sheet I used this formula: =IF(ROWS(A$13:A13)>$C$10,"",INDEX(Monday!A$3:A$62,SMALL(IF(Monday[Paid]=$A$10,ROW(Monday[Paid])-ROW(Monday!$I$3)+1),ROWS(A$13:A13)))) This formula works fine for one worksheet (eg. Monday) but is it possible to show the extracted rows from all 6 sheets on the front page? I only have Excel NOT Access.
