  • Two bugs you should be aware of

    - by AaronBertrand
In the past 24 hours I have come across two bugs that can be quite problematic in certain environments. LPIM issue with SetFileIoOverlappedRange Last night the CSS team posted a blog entry detailing a potential issue with Lock Pages in Memory and Windows' SetFileIoOverlappedRange API. I tweeted about it at the time, but thought it could use a little more treatment. The potential symptoms can vary, but include the following (as quoted from the blog post): Wide ranging in SQL from invalid write location,...(read more)

    - by Bob Webster
This post provides a small extension to OER 11g that allows users without full Registrar permissions to delete their own unsubmitted assets. When the extension is installed in OER, a delete button conditionally appears on the Asset Details page of the OER Web App. The button is only visible if the selected Asset is in the 'Unsubmitted' state and the asset was created by the current user. Text-editor > Css > formatting > check the compact rule. this option make you file smaller in size and easily to read. 6. Text-editor > html > miscellaneous > uncheck the auto ID option. Actually When you copy paste the html code Visual studio change their ID if ID is already exist. this option disable that feature. This is useful to do when we write if{} else {} statement and this is not helpful on that case. 7. • Reflector is no longer going to be free - What do you think?

    - by simonsabin
Redgate recently announced that the next version of reflector was no longer going to be free ( http://www.red-gate.com/products/dotnet-development/reflector/announcement ). Instead you will be changed $35 . Here is the FAQ about the decision http://www.red-gate.com/products/dotnet-development/reflector/announcement-faq As a side note it drives me nuts when a UK company quotes dollars on their website. Especially when I am in the UK and I use pounds. The more I think about this the more I don’t like...(read more)

  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services: A generic error occurred in GDI+

    - by Greg Low
While building some maps today in SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services, I kept coming up with an error that said: A generic error occurred in GDI+ I was struggling to think what I'd done wrong. After much nashing of teeth and removal of hair, I finally worked out what the error was. When I got to the "Choose Color Scheme and Visualization" page of the map wizard for building a color analytical map, I hadn't picked the correct value for the "Field to Visualize" drop-down. I'm guessing that because...(read more)

  • Google Sitemap Limits?

    - by Anonymous -
I've read in multiple places that Google's sitemap limits sits at 50,000 URLs per sitemap - though it's my understanding that you can submit multiple sitemaps to overcome this problem. I've also found that Google follow the sitemap protocol found here. My question is - is there anywhere where Google directly comment on the specifications and limits of sitemaps they accept? All the information I've found isn't behind any Google domain.

  • The first SQL Server in the Evening event

    - by GavinPayneUK
On Wednesday 19 th January I held my first SQL Server in the Evening event at VMware’s UK headquarters in Frimley, Surrey and while the event opened my eyes as to the amount of work needed before and after the event it would not have been possible without four groups of people: Those who attended – I think I counted around 18 of you, the event was for you so I’m glad you came and later said you’d all come again. Those who hosted us – VMware – we were given the nicest facilities you could have asked...(read more)

  • Sample Code for the SSIS Book

    - by KnightReign
Yes, I know I’ve been gone for a long time. I haven’t professionally blogged for years. But, the good folks here, Adam and Peter have out of the goodness of their hearts, left my blog around and well, I though I’d check in. Since then, I’ve changed jobs, gotten divorced, bought a few more laptops, bunches of guitars, a snowboard or two, iPads, iPhones, a few cars, travel to India, Europe, Middle East, backpacked Scotland (and still damp), Nepal and all over the US. I’m three roles away from the SSIS...(read more)

  • Speaker Prep Tip: Use the AV Studio Built into that Laptop

    - by merrillaldrich
Over at erinstellato.com there is a great post this week about tips for new presenters. Ms. Stellato suggests, insightfully, that we record ourselves, which is really a fantastic piece of advice. What’s extra-cool is that today you don’t need any special equipment or expensive software to do just that. This week I “filmed” two run-throughs of my talk for SQL Saturday tomorrow. For me, the timing is the hardest thing – figuring out how much content I can really present in the time allowed without...(read more)

  • Replication Presentation at the Southampton User Group

    - by GavinPayneUK
Last night I delivered a presentation about SQL Server’s replication services to Mark Pryce-Maher’s user group in Southampton. As those who were there saw this is a massive topic and to deliver anything but a high level overview in 45 minutes does an injustice to the subject.  Therefore, what I gave the Wednesday night audience was a deliberately high level introduction through my slides with an accompanying detailed commentary as well as answering questions as we went along. The great thing...(read more)
