  • Both nginx and php5-fpm init.d startup scripts are non-functional and returning no errors..? But they used to work perfectly

    I have been using nginx and php5-fpm on my Ubuntu box for a while now. Everything has been configured and setup correctly, and it ran like a charm. I have been keeping the packages updated & upgraded as usual, but haven't touched the nginx OR php5-fpm config files at all (thus I'm pretty sure this isn't my fault... ) Basically, I noticed nginx wasn't running as it should be. I ran the command sudo service nginx start, and the script did nothing. The same thing happens when trying to do anything - start, stop, restart or reload. This also happens for the "php5-fpm" init script - although all other init scripts seem to be functioning correctly. When trying to start nginx OR php5-fpm, this is what happens: root@HAL:/etc# service php5-fpm start root@HAL:/etc# I can't understand what is going wrong. The script isn't returning errors, but similarly it isn't starting the daemon or reporting success as usual. For reference, both installations are from the official nginx and php5-fpm PPAs. The fact that both started doing this at the same time has thrown me - since they are both unrelated packages. I have since purged both sets of packages from my system with apt-get purge ... and also apt-get remove --purge ... both of which have successfully removed the packages, their config files, and their init.d startup scripts. After having reinstalled nginx, I now have a functioning startup script again - I can start the web server as usual. However, php5-fpm is still experiencing the strange premature exiting of the startup script.. and I really can't figure out what's causing it. I have no idea what caused this to occur initially, but have managed to fix nginx. I now need to fix the php5-fpm startup script. If anybody could shed some light on this situation, I would be very grateful! The chances are both these issues are related - and they were caused by me doing something stupid. But now I need to fix it. This time I was lucky - because these problems are just on my development server. But I have 2 other live servers which are configured in a similar way, and I am worried the same thing will happen to these two as well! Has anybody else come across this? Do you have any words of advice? Thank you

I would also like to see how it then works into your master pages.   • iphone google maps crosshair button

    I would like to use or emulate a button like the gps button in the bottom left corner of the standard maps application on the iphone OS. The button behaves like a toggle button where gps is enabled or disabled depending on whether it is pushed and it may hold a small spinner component while the gps is finding your position. Does anyone know if this component can be easily constructed using default components? If no, what would be the best way to develop such a component? Is the crosshair/target icon a generic icon that I can re-use?

  • How do I store more information in a marker?

    Hello, I'm using Google Maps v3 and I build in the server side a json collection of location data. So when I receive that, I iterate through that collection and create a marker object for each and every one of them. For each of these markers, I bind them with the click event, so when the user clicks on a marker in the map, it displays an infoWindow with data related to the associated location. I have an array to store all the location got from the server that holds the retrieved json objects and their corresponding marker. The problem is that, even when I have an array that I can reference or iterate through, I need to not only get the marker object when the user clicks on them, but also the location object, that stores more information. I tried to mantain this array of objects and reference it from the calling object without success, because the function is called by the marker and not the location object. So I thought if it's possible to store more information in the google maps marker object like using a general purpose field. Please let me know if more information is needed. Thanks!

  • How do I get google protocol buffer messages over a socket connection without disconnecting the clie

    Hi there, I'm attempting to send a .proto message from an iPhone application to a Java server via a socket connection. However so far I'm running into an issue when it comes to the server receiving the data; it only seems to process it after the client connection has been terminated. This points to me that the data is getting sent, but the server is keeping its inputstream open and waiting for more data. Would anyone know how I might go about solving this? The current code (or at least the relevant parts) is as follows: iPhone: Person *person = [[[[Person builder] setId:1] setName:@"Bob"] build]; RequestWrapper *request = [[[RequestWrapper builder] setPerson:person] build]; NSData *data = [request data]; AsyncSocket *socket = [[AsyncSocket alloc] initWithDelegate:self]; if (![socket connectToHost:@"192.168.0.6" onPort:6666 error:nil]){ [self updateLabel:@"Problem connecting to socket!"]; } else { [self updateLabel:@"Sending data to server..."]; [socket writeData:data withTimeout:-1 tag:0]; [self updateLabel:@"Data sent, disconnecting"]; //[socket disconnect]; } Java: try { RequestWrapper wrapper = RequestWrapper.parseFrom(socket.getInputStream()); Person person = wrapper.getPerson(); if (person != null) { System.out.println("Persons name is " + person.getName()); socket.close(); } On running this, it seems to hang on the line where the RequestWrapper is processing the inputStream. I did try replacing the socket writedata method with [request writeToOutputStream:[socket getCFWriteStream]]; Which I thought might work, however I get an error claiming that the "Protocol message contained an invalid tag (zero)". I'm fairly certain that it doesn't contain an invalid tag as the message works when sending it via the writedata method. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!   • Google Chrome, IE problem with adjusting style before AJAX

    When I'm using AJAX, I typically do something before each request to let the user know that they'll be waiting for a second. This is usually done by just adding an animated loading gif. When I do this, Firefox does what you'd expect and adds the gif before moving control to the next line (where the AJAX is called). In Chrome, it locks the browser and doesn't make any DOM changes at all (let alone load an image), including even changing the color of something, until the AJAX is done. This isn't just AJAX though. It's anything that holds control, and it never makes DOM changes until the control is given back to the window. Example (using jQuery): function submit_order() { $('#my_element').css('color', '#FF0000'); // Make text red before calling AJAX $.getJSON('/api/', my_callback) // Note, in IE and Chrome #my_element isn't turned red until the AJAX finishes and my_callback is run } Why does this happen, and how can I solve it? I can't use ASYNC because of the nature of the data (it would be a big mess). I experimented with using window.setTimeout(myajaxfunc, 150) after setting the style, to see if it would set the style, then do the timeout, but it appears it isn't an issue with just AJAX, but rather the control of the script in general (I think, hence the title making mention to AJAX because this is the only time I ever run into this problem). This doesn't have anything to do with it being in a function BTW.

  • Map tiling - What kind of projection?

    Hi. I've taken a large image and divided it in to square tiles (256x256). It is made for google maps also, so the whole image is divided into z_x_y.png (Depending on zoom level). z=0 = 1x1 tile z=1 = 2x2 tilesthe z=2 = 4x4 tiles My imageMap is "flat" and is not based on a sphere like the worldmap. I'm gonna use this map on a windows mobile app (which has no google API), and all the "points of interests" is inserted into a database by longitude and latitude. And since i have to make this for the windows mobile, i just have XY coordinate system. Is it enough to just use this: MAP_WIDTH = 256*TILES_W; MAP_HEIGHT = 256*TILES_H; function convert(int lat, int lon) { int y = (int)((-1 * lat) + 90) * (MAP_HEIGHT / 180); int x = (int)(lon + 180) * (MAP_WIDTH / 360); ImagePoint p = new ImagePoint(x,y); // An object which holds the coordinates return p; } Or do i need a projection technique?   • Google GWT cross-browser support: is it BS ?

    I developed a browser-deployed full-text search app in FlashBuilder which communicates RESTfully with a remote web-server. The software fits into a tiny niche--it is for use with ancient languages not modern ones, and there's no way I'm going to make any money on it but I did spend a lot of time on it. Now that Apple won't allow Flash on the iPad, I'm looking for a 100% javascript solution and was led to consider GWT. It looked promising, but one of the apps being "showcased" as a stellar example of what can be done with GWT has this disclaimer on their website (names {removed} to protect the potentially innocent) : Your current web browser (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.5 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/4.1.249.1045 Safari/532.5) is not officially supported by {company and product name were here}. If you experience any problems using this site please install either Microsoft Internet Explorer 6+ or Mozilla Firefox 3.5+ before contacting {product name was here} Support. What gives when GWT apps aren't "officially" supported on Chrome? What grade (A, B, C, D, F) would you give to GWT for cross-browser support? For folks who don't get these kinds of letter grades, A is "excellent" and "F" is failure, and "C" is average. Thanks for your opinions.

  • z-index has no effect in IE7 with Google Map and Navigation Sub-Menus

    I feel like the problem is extremely apparent. I'm working on an issue with a client's site, which actually happens on several of my clients' sites but this one is the most apparent. IE7 Is refusing to obey z-index rules. I've played around with differing values, particularly on the divs #mapWrapper and #map. I also ready through Aleksandar Vacic's article on IE6/7 z-index discrepancies, but still nothing. Any assistance would be much appreciated, I'm tearing my hair out on this one.

  • Creating a dynamic (video) Overlay on Google Maps on Android 2.1

    I'm trying to create a map overlay for displaying a video stream (MJPEG) on top of a Mapview. Currently I've a standalone activity that creates a data thread for fetching MJPEG video frames. I'm using a handler to send a frame (as a Bitmap) from the data thread to the main activity which then updates the UI. I'm not sure how I can implement "refresh" for updating my "overlayed" video stream. EDIT: What I mean by "refresh" is - how can I update the video portion (not the mapview) of my UI whenever I get a new video frame. I plan to paint the video frame (bitmap) in the "draw method" of my implementation of the Overlay subclass. But the "draw" method is not invoked by me directly. Thanks.

  • Unity3D, Torque3D, Google O3D, WebGl....which to choose?

    for development of interactive 3d web applications, which engine is recommended? I am aware that WebGL has been anounced to become standarized for all browsers in the near future (1~2 years). I am afraid that by investing time into a proprietary game engine such as Unity, torque would be not great once plugin-less open source 3d engines appear (webgl & 3D javascript). Is this a stupid thing to worry about ? Should I begin with Unity3D (it's demo's and tools were mind blowing).

  • Java Google App Engine inconsistent data lose after restarting dev server

    Hello everyone, I am using Java GAE. So far, i'm just scafolding my data objects and i'm seeing an interesting issue. The records that i am playing around with are getting updated properly as long as my dev server is running up. The second that the my dev server gets restarted, i lose all of my changes. That would be not alarming if i lost all of my records, but, there was a point of time where my data persisted through the server restart. I'm worried that i would lose production data if i launched without fixing this potential bugs? ANy idea on wher ei should look?

  • C# Image HttpHandler: Disable cookies in handler (YSlow / Google PageSpeed)

    Hi. I have a HttpHandler for resizing images, round corners, reflection etc etc. This i working OK. The problem i have is, that some data is stored in cookies, and the cookies are send to images, when they are shown. Is there any way to disable this globally (cookie-free requests) in web.config, or even in the HttpHandler itself?   • Google Mock for iPhone development?

    I have an interesting situation where I am refactoring a bunch of ObjC iPhone code to create a C++ API. I'm a novice to C++ and looking into C++ mocking frameworks to augment the work I'd done using OCUnit and poor man's mocks. I ran across googlemock and wanted to know if anyone has ever used it for iPhone development? Also, how can I share this (or mockpp) with other devs as it is an installable package and doesn't seem to lend itself to checking into a repository?
