• Recommendation on Ticket system with billing feature

  Actually, I do not know if I have used the right terms to describe our situation. Basically, We would like to have a system to help us to do billing and support at the same time. For example, we would like to offer outside users a customer support with ticket system, however the outside users need to purchase some credits beforehand through the system in order to submit their requests. Sometimes, our representatives will charge extra unit of credit for solving some open tickets due to the complexity and hours spent. (It will be nice to submit user a further billing request to same open ticket, and user can either accept/declined) Is there any available application or service we can use for the purpose above?

  I was surprised to hear from this Reuters video that it was possible for a page loaded on one tab to access and/or inject data onto another page loaded on a different tab. TL;DW (too lazy; didn't watch) The interviewee in the video suggests that when doing online banking, the user exit his browser (thus closing all windows) and start a new browser session with just your banking page/tab open. Allegedly, malicious sites can check if you have your banking site open and inject commands onto those sites. Can someone confirm and/or deny this claim? Is it only possible even if there is not parent/child relationship between windows/tabs?

• Windows 2000 Inaccessible Boot Device

  I am working with a machine that had its motherboard die. The machine is running Windows 2000 for legacy software. After the motherboard died I used disk2vhd to perform a physical to virtual transfer. The drive data seemed to copy over to the vhd file well. However, whenever i try to boot I get a message saying Inaccessible Boot Device So far I have tried several things to fix it. fixMBR fixBoot chkdsk windows 2000 automated repair Also, I have attempted to open the registry of the vhd without any success. There is another fix that i have seen suggested that requires editing the registry. Is it possible to open a Windows 2000 hive in another OS or another copy of Windows 2000? One other thing to note is that the error appears in all of Virtual PC 2007, Hyper-V and VMWare Player. Does anyone know how to get past this?

• Accessing A Shared Directory That Has An Account White List

  I'm on a LAN here at work and I have my desktop sharing some of my project folders. I can access the computer via \\ComputerIP\, but I can't actually open any of the folders. Upon attempting, I get the error: Windowns cannot access \ComputerIP\ProjectFolder You do not have permission to access \ComputerIP\ProjectFolder. Contact your network administrator to request access. For more information about permissions, see Windows Help and Support Now, this is understood considering I've made it so that you had to utilize the "Project" credentials to connect. I have a user account on my main computer hosting these shared folders that gives full access to the folders if you are this "Project" user. I can Remote Desktop the computer just fine from my laptop using either set of credentials. When I try to open these folders it doesn't give me the option to attempt to apply any credentials like it does when I remote desktop. How am I supposed to gain access to these folders?

  I'm running Vista Home Premium 32-Bit, though I doubt that matters, in this case. So, how do you set the default windows size? Is there a registry tweak for this? Going to Tools->Folder Options...->View Apply to Folders or Reset Folders doesn't work. So, whenever I open a new window to a random new folder I haven't opened before, I don't want it to take 75% of the screen. Is there any way I could make it open smaller?

• 2 pdfs look same on XP, different on Win7

  I have 2 pdf files. I compared them with WinMerge, BeyondCompare, and even compared their checksums. They are exactly the same to me in every way. If I open them with Adobe Reader in Xp, and compare them with my bare eyes, they look the same. But!!! If I open them with Adobe Reader in Win7, and compare them with my bare eyes, they look very different!(particularly border width). I'm sorry I cannot share the 2 pdf files but I will appreciate it if anyone could come up with any idea!

  I want to search multiple websites at once by using a keyword trigger in Google Chrome. I am trying to achieve this with Javascript as described in this topic over at mozillazine. • Could not establish a secure connection to server with safari

  Safari tells me that it couldnt open the page, because it couldnt establish a secure connection to the server. However, other browsers (opera, firefox) can open the page. Also, theres nothing in the apache error log. The certificate is selfsigned, and uses standart values. • Looking for FTP server that allows user management from database

  I'm planning a server application that will handle files uploaded via FTP. The application must parse text documents that it receives and write them to a database (most likely a document-oriented database like Mongo). And the application must also relay all large binary files it receives to Amazon S3 for storage and hosting. I'd like to manage all aspects of the FTP server programmatically. For example, when a user registers via a web page the application should be able to create the user account in the database and provision a directory on the server for receiving files. I'm using a Linux server but am otherwise open to considering any programming language or framework. I experimented with VSFTPD but didn't like the way the application relies on config files and the creation of users and directories via the command line. Can someone please recommend what server framework I should consider? I'm a little biased toward solutions that leverage Javascript/Nodejs or Python. However, I'm open to anything that can run on a Linux box.

• Permissions problems with Apache / SVN

  I am installed a SVN server (v1.6) on a VPS contracted with CentOS 5, Apache 2.2 with WHM panel. I installed and configured all necessary modules and am able to create and access repositories via my web browser normally. The problem: I can not commit or import anything, always return permission errors: First error: Can not open file '/var/www/svn/test/db/txn-current-lock': Permission denied After fix the previous error: Can't open '/var/www/svn/test/db/tempfile.tmp': Permission denied And other... (and happends many others) Can't open file '/var/www/svn/test/db/txn-protorevs/0-1m.rev': Permission denied I've read and executed permissions on numerous tutorials regarding this errors, all without success. I've defined the owner as apache or nobody and different permissions for folders and files. I'm using TortoiseSVN to connect to the server. Some information that may find useful: I'm trying to perform commit through an external HTTP connection, like: svn commit http://example.com/svn/test SELinux is disabled. sestatus returns SELinux status: disabled Running the command to see the active processes of Apache, some processes are left with user/group "nobody". I tried changing the settings of Apache to not run with that user/group, but all my websites stopped working, returning this error: Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. • (Free?) Hosting Control Panels

  I've installed and used both cPanel and Plesk on my dedicated servers in the past and I truly enjoyed the features and simplicity of cPanel (specially the auto-update feature in WHM), recently (a couple of months ago) I also tried a beta version of the open-source OpenPanel and although it looks really nice I found it kinda limited in terms of features, such as automatic system updates, automatic backups and the ability to add addicional hosts to the MySQL allowed clients list - just to name a few. Besides OpenPanel, I'm aware of Usermin, Webmin, Virtualmin, ISPConfig, VHCS, web-cp and FlexCP - although I've never had the opportunity to try any of them before... Are you familiar and recommend any of these? It's been a while since I managed a dedicated server and I'm wondering what would be a good hosting control panel for me, preferably a free / open-source one that has similar features / usability of cPanel. I appreciate all input, thanks! =)

I just want me and my wife to be able to post to it and then share with grandparents and friends. I'm at the start so I would like a platform (blogger, wordpress, ...) that has these features and that also allows export of the data (if one day I want to migrate to a different platform). I've been trying out blogger which allows you to have a private blog. But when I upload images they get stored in a hard to guess URL but are otherwise public. Are there better options to this? For videos I think I am happy with embedding Vimeo videos since they ask for a password to be viewed but I am open to suggestions.

• application/x-httpd-php opening rather than pages?

  For some reason, no matter what page I try to open (.php, .html, .html, etc) my server trys to save it, rather than displaying the page. However, I do get the "It Works!" page for the main domain, it's only when I try to display a page on a sub-directory that it fails. I researched the problem, and I placed a .htaccess file in the directory of the pages that I'm attempting open with the code: AddType application/x-httpd-php5 .php .html .htm AddHandler applicaton/x-httpd-php5 .php .htm .html .my I'm running the latest version of apache and php5 which is installed as the "php5" module. • Tweaks on nvidia-settings only working when the program is opened

  I have two monitors. The master one (17") is 1yo, and the secondary (15") is really old, like 4yo. This old screen is having problems displaying colors... They are a little bit darker, what is a problem when I'm viewing pics. I have a GeForce 9800, so I changed some settings inside nvidia-settings, that fit better with this second screen. But those settings just are applied when I first open nvidia-settings. First time I configured this, it worked. I turned off computer, next day turned it on, and screen is dark again. As soon as I open nvidia-settings again, the screens get lighter again! How can I make those settings permanent and loaded at startup?

  I have an issue with a Dell Inspiron 15 (1545) laptop that refuses to open any applications (save select Microsoft programs, e.g. Security Essentials, Ctrl Panel, Windows Explorer (not Internet), regedit, Event Viewer, etc.). I've run Microsoft Memory Diagnostics Tool and it found a 'hardware problem was detected.' Does this indicate that the RAM has failed? I notice when I open programs like Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, etc., it always give me an error from WerFault.exe saying The instruction at xxxxxxx referenced memory at xxxxxxxxx. The memory could not be written. and sometimes something about illegal instructions. If it is a hardware problem, does this mean that replacing the RAM is my only option? Again, I would also like to know if RAM can fail (like hard drives) and if malware can cause RAM to fail also.

  The problem is that my messages don't seem to sync and neither do I get notifications from the Windows Store App. I have both, the desktop program and the Windows Store App, the problem is that whenever someone messages me I do not receive a notification of the App but I get one from the desktop program. The Skype app is running in the background and does not have disabled the notifications neither have turned on sleep notifications. I have to manually open the app and moreover, open the chat window of the one who is talking to me, then wait like 10 minutes and then the chat will get syncronized. in short: Notifications don't work even: if computer unlocked and Skype is running in background if computer unlocked and Skype is running in foreground These doesn't seem to help: Reboot doesn't affects skype. Having only the App opened. Uninstalling/reinstalling Is there a way to fix this? or is this an issue with the Skype app in Windows 8?

  In gmail can we make is:unread the default view? That is, when we load gmail can we configure it so that is:unread is already selected, thereby showing only unread messages by default? Or can we at least configure gmail so that it has a 1 click link that only shows unread mail? The reason for this of course is that it is slow and inefficient to have to type is:unread into the gmail search every time I open it. It would be much more convenient for gmail to load this view by itself when I open gmail.

• AD-Integrated DNS failure: "Access was Denied"

  I have a single Windows 2008 R2 server configured as a domain controller with Active Directory Domain Services and DNS Server. The DNS Server was recently uninstalled and reinstalled in an attempt to fix a (possibly unrelated) problem; the event log was previously flooded with errors (#4000, "The DNS Server was unable to open Active Directory...") which reinstalling did not fix. However, while before it was at least showing and resolving names from the local network (slowly), now it's showing nothing at all. (The original error started with a #4015 error "The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the Active Directory," followed by a long string of #4000 and a few #4004. This may have been caused when a new DNS name was recently added, but I can't be sure of the timing.) Attempting to manage the DNS through Administrative Tools > DNS brings up an error: The server SERVERNAME could not be contacted. The error was: Access was denied. Would you like to add it anyway? Selecting yes just puts a SERVERNAME item on the list, but with all the configuration options grayed out. I attempted editing my hosts file as per this post but to no avail. Running dcdiag, it does identify the home server properly, but fails right away testing connectivity with: Starting test: Connectivity The host blahblahblahyaddayaddayadda could not be resolved to an IP address. Check the DNS server, DHCP, server name, etc. Got error while checking LDAP and RPC connectivity. Please check your firewall settings. ......................... SERVERNAME failed test Connectivity Adding the blahblahblahyaddayaddayadda address to hosts (pointing at 127.0.0.1), the connectivity test succeeded but it didn't seem to solve the fundamental problem (Access was denied) so I hashed it out again. Primary DNS server is properly pointing at 127.0.0.1 according to ipconfig /all. And the DNS server is forwarding requests to external addresses properly (if slowly), but the resolving of local network names is borked. The DNS database itself is small enough that I am (grudgingly) able to rebuild it if need be, but the DNS Server doesn't seem willing to let me work with (or around) it at all. (and yes before you ask there are no system backups available) Where do I go from here? • Close all Mac Terminal windows, but the one running a script

  I am trying to create a shell script that runs a python simulation programing in 4 terminal windows. I have the script that launches the program four times in four separate terminal windows(total of 5 windows, 4 for the python programs, and one to control the other terminal windows). I want to now create a script that I can run in the control terminal window that closes and kills the programs of the other four terminal windows, but still have the control one open. What I have so far is something like this #!/bin/sh osascript -e 'tell app "Terminal" do script "killall python" end tell' osascript -e 'tell app "Terminal" to quit' osascript -e 'tell app "Terminal" to open' The problem is that the last line doesn't work because it closes all the windows including the one the script is executing in. I am not really familiar with shell or apple script so any help would be welcomed. I posted on Stack, but I think this might be a better place for an automation type question. Thanks

  I have some files on Windows 7, and want to see what time it was that I read it this morning (February 27 morning), but when I right click on the file and choose Properties, I see Accessed: Yesterday, Feb 26, 2011, 2:12:37PM so I open the file to read the content again, and then open up the Properties again, and still the Accessed (date) is the same (Feb 26). Even if I add a column to the folder for "Date Accessed", it still shows Feb 26. But today is Feb 27 and clearly I have "accessed" it... so how can I see the true last accessed date?

• Windows Photo Viewer needs more ram?

  Ok, so i went to open a picture with the Windows Photo Viewer (Default) application and it told me this: Windows Photo Viewer can't display this picture because there might not be enough memory available on your computer. Close some programs that you aren't using or free some hard disk space (if it's almost full), and then try again. So looking at my 98% ram usage (thankyou VisualStudio x8 + SQL Server) I rebooted my computer. Now this is my load: And this is my hard-disk loadout: So now I go to load up that image again. SAME MESSAGE, what the heck? So apparantly 6gb isn't enough ram to open a 29k image that loads perfectly fine in MSPaint, Paint.NET, Photoshop It's a .png and it's not corrupt. So my question is: what gives?
