  • Servlet File Upload Memory Consumption

    Hi, I'm using a servlet to do a multi fileupload (using apache commons fileupload to help). A portion of my code is posted below. My problem is that if I upload several files at once, the memory consumption of the app server jumps rather drastically. This is probably OK if it were only until the file upload is finished, but the app server seems to hang on to the memory and never return it to the OS. I'm worried that when I put this into production I'll end up getting an out of memory exception on the server. Any ideas on why this is happening?   • Why checking out working copy with svn:// access method, with 127.0.0.1 fails , but,with localhost w

    Hi!, I have setup svnserve server (1.6.5,plain, without apache) on Fedora. I start the svnserve with the command 'svnserve -d --foreground --listen-port=3690 -r /usr/local/svn-repos/proj-test' When user trying to checkout working copy from the local machine with command 'svn checkout svn://127.0.0.1/proj-test' gets following error svn: URL 'svn://127.0.0.1/proj-test' doesn't exists but, 'svn checkout svn://localhost/proj-test' works. I am curious to know why using 127.0.0.1 with svn:// fails? Thanks. Banani

  • Which Java Service or Daemon framework would you recommend?

    I have encountered many different ways to turn a Java program into a Windows Service or a *nix daemon, such as Java Service Wrapper, Apache Commons Daemon, and so on. Barring licensing concerns (such as JSW's GPL or pay dual-license), and more advanced features, which one would you recommend? All I intend to do is convert a simple Java program into a service; I don't need anything fancy, just something that runs as a service or a daemon, so I can start it or stop it in the service manager, or it runs for the lifetime of my *nix uptime. EDIT: I've decided to make this community wiki. I didn't start this question with an intention to find an answer for a problem I really had. I was just doing some reading and researching and chanced upon this question, so I was looking for recommendations and the like. Sorry for not doing this sooner or doing this at first. I didn't know what community wiki was for when I first started, and I completely forgot about this question until now. Many thanks for the answers!

This is because loc is not serializable, but this shouldn't be problem because spring beans are a serializable proxies. On the page https://cwiki.apache.org/WICKET/spring.html#Spring-AnnotationbasedApproach is written: Using annotation-based approach, you should not worry about serialization/deserialization of the injected dependencies as this is handled automatically, the dependencies are represented by serializable proxies What am I doing wrong?

  • tomcat startup.sh trouble finding JAVA_HOME

    I am a bit puzzled by this strange behavior on CentOs 5.4 when starting Tomcat 6.0 as a service I've added a script at /etc/init.d/tomcat that can start/stop/restart Apache Tomcat 6.0 with user 'tomcat', and registered it as service. The problem with the service is that I am getting a 'Neither the JAVA_HOME nor the JRE_HOME environment variable is defined'. But when type 'sudo -u tomcat echo $JAVA_HOME' I get '/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_22' which is correct since I am using that JDK. What can I do about this?

    I using servlet and Apache ServletFileUpload that provides stream to uploaded image. All I want to do is to store that image to db and also store resized (I using JAI) version to db. How can I achieve this without saving image to drive. As I understand stream can be read only once. So I need to store whole image in memory? Is it expensive for performance? However, I'm sure that over time, I'd like to be able to offer the option to view not only the frequency of visited sites, but also other members of LogLine (things like the frequency of assigned categories, accessed types [text/html, img/jpeg, etc...] filter verdicts, and so on). Ideally, I'd like to avoid writing individual methods for compilation of data for each of those types, and they could each end up looking nearly identical to the getFrequencyOfVisitedSites() method. So, my question is twofold: first, can you see anywhere where this method should be improved, from a mechanical standpoint? And secondly, how would you make this method more generic, so that it might be able to handle an arbitrary set of data?

  • What's the best way to run a Linux virtual server in Windows 7?

    I need a virtual server for web development, it'll host Apache+Postgres+Ruby+something else. What's the most effective software to run such a server? (ie with least virtualization overhead) Is there a way to run Linux as as service? I use VirtualBox at the moment, but it's inconvenient in some ways, such as it needs an emulator window open which also captures keyboard input when alttabbed into. (Also, coLinux hangs at boot on my machine, so it's probably not an option)
