  • IIS7, different ports for websites but no portnumber in the browser

    I have a windows server 2008 with IIS7 with 4 websites. In DNS I have 4 different URLs which point to the IP of the server. I configured each web site with the site bindings: website1: hostname: url1, port: 80, IP-Adresse: the adress of the server website2: hostname: url2, port: 80, IP-Adresse: the adress of the server The result is, that from the client, I can browse with all the 4 URLs to the specified web sites and everything is fine. Then I changed in IIS the port of the websites, so that website1 now uses port 8080, website2 uses port 8081, and so on. Now I have to use the browser with the url and the portnumber (like URL:8080). Is there a possibility, to configured the websites with different portnumbers but not to use the portnumbers in the browser?

    I have recently switched from MAC to Windows Vista. I used to have LittleSnitch on Mac where I can create filters and disable browsing to other websites. I mean, I can create filters so that LittleSnitch will not send traffic to specific websites like Google Analytics etc. However, I cannot find a similar software on Windows. I tried Zone Alarm firewall, but it doesn't let you add filters to stop traffic to specific websites. Are there any software available on windows which are similar to LittleSnitch?

  • Can you have a staging and production slot in Azure Websites

    I'm looking at hosting 3 Websites (there will all use the same linked database resource but I think I have to use 3 websites within Azure for this); www.website.com, provider.website.com and admin.website.com. Using Windows Azure Websites, can you have a Staging, Production slot? I think this feature is only available to Azure Cloud Services but there is little documentation on this. If its not possible, other than spinning up 3 more sites to act as the staging sites is there another way? I want the ability to "swap" from staging to production.

  • Unable to access my own websites from our home

    Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but i'm gonna have a shot at it. I host a couple of websites with a webhost in the Netherlands. For a couple of days now, i've been unable to connect to them from my home network. When using tracert in the cmd screen, i'm getting a timeout after about 4-5 hops. It seems fine accessing the website from anywhere, except my home network. Other PC's around the house also fail to open the websites. I've tried 'flushing my DNS' as seen in some other topics, but to no avail just yet. One of the websites: http://bit.ly/1hbqs4J I've contacted my host about it as well, but no response yet. The first clue that something is wrong is that that file did not exist even though it's supposed to be created automatically.   • Long-running ASP.NET tasks

    I know there's a bunch of APIs out there that do this, but I also know that the hosting environment (being ASP.NET) puts restrictions on what you can reliably do in a separate thread. I could be completely wrong, so please correct me if I am, this is however what I think I know. A request typically timeouts after 120 seconds (this is configurable) but eventually the ASP.NET runtime will kill a request that's taking too long to complete. The hosting environment, typically IIS, employs process recycling and can at any point decide to recycle your app. When this happens all threads are aborted and the app restarts. I'm however not sure how aggressive it is, it would be kind of stupid to assume that it would abort a normal ongoing HTTP request but I would expect it to abort a thread because it doesn't know anything about the unit of work of a thread. If you had to create a programming model that easily and reliably and theoretically put a long running task, that would have to run for days, how would you accomplish this from within an ASP.NET application? The following are my thoughts on the issue: I've been thinking a long the line of hosting a WCF service in a win32 service. And talk to the service through WCF. This is however not very practical, because the only reason I would choose to do so, is to send tasks (units of work) from several different web apps. I'd then eventually ask the service for status updates and act accordingly. My biggest concern with this is that it would NOT be a particular great experience if I had to deploy every task to the service for it to be able to execute some instructions. There's also this issue of input, how would I feed this service with data if I had a large data set and needed to chew through it? What I typically do right now is this SELECT TOP 10 * FROM WorkItem WITH (ROWLOCK, UPDLOCK, READPAST) WHERE WorkCompleted IS NULL It allows me to use a SQL Server database as a work queue and periodically poll the database with this query for work. If the work item completed with success, I mark it as done and proceed until there's nothing more to do. What I don't like is that I could theoretically be interrupted at any point and if I'm in-between success and marking it as done, I could end up processing the same work item twice. I might be a bit paranoid and this might be all fine but as I understand it there's no guarantee that that won't happen... I know there's been similar questions on SO before but non really answers with a definitive answer. This is a really common thing, yet the ASP.NET hosting environment is ill equipped to handle long-running work. Please share your thoughts.

    Hello, When using asp.net ajax (scriptmanager, timer, updatepanel) with ie8, after certain time (~3h) IE breaks with null object, constructor, or paramArray (depending on the asp.net code). Even with the simplest timer (no ajax, no updatepanel) ie8 still breaks. On every other browser it works fine, and if I code the ajax myself it works. Since google and msdn forums turned up nothing I'm wondering if anybody here has had similar problems with ie8 browser.

    We are getting the error above on some pages of an ASP.NET MVC application when it is deployed to a 64 bit Windows 2008 server box. It works fine on our development machines, though these are 32 bit XP. Just wondered if anyone had encountered this before, and has any suggestions? Details as follows: Bad binary signature. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131192) Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Bad binary signature. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131192) All projects are set to compile for Any CPU, and are compiled in Release mode. The ASP.NET site is precompiled, and the precompiled build is on a 64 bit Windows 2008 TeamCity build agent. Thanks in advance. EDIT We're still plagued by this. I have looked at all the binaries in the website's bin directory using corflags.exe. None has the 32BIT flag set, and all have a CorFlags value of 9 except for Antlr3.Runtime.dll which has a value of 1. The problem only affects certain pages, and it seems to be those which use FluentValidation (including FluentValidation.Mvc and FluentValidation.xValIntegration assemblies). None of these shows anything out of the ordinary when inspected with corflags.exe, and there are no odd looking dependencies revealed by ildasm. When built locally (32 bit Windows XP) the site deploys and runs fine. When built on the build agents (64 bit Windows 2008 Server) the site displays these errors. The site runs in Integrated Pipeline mode, and is not set to 32 bit. The stack trace is: [COMException (0x80131192): Bad binary signature.   • OnExit is not entering via PostSharp in asp.net project.

    Hi there, I have setup PostSharp and it appears to be working but i don't get it entering OnExit (i have logged setup to ensure it is working) ... Its a bit tricky to configure with asp.net - or is it just me ... I am using the 1.5 new version I basically have the following in my web.config and i had to add the SearchPath otherwise it can't find my assemblies <postsharp directory="C:\Program Files\PostSharp 1.5" trace="true"> <parameters> <!--<add name="parameter-name" value="parameter-value"/>--> </parameters> <searchPath> <!-- Always add the binary folder to the search path. --> <add name="bin" value="~\bin"/> </searchPath> </postsharp> I have set tracing on but what is strange to me is that it appears to build to the temp directory, maybe this is my issue, i am unsure .. hence i do F5 ... Is it possible to name the Output directory and output file?? As you can see it is editing a DLL in the temp dir so IIS is no longer in control so it doesn't execute it ???     I have a fairly simple ASP.Net site that uses google checkout (I have an imagebutton with the PostBackUrl set to the Google address passing values of hidden fields) which works fine. I've been moving this app to MVC and I'm not sure how to handle this. I thought about using jQuery form but I don't believe this would work in this situation because there are times when they're redirected to the google pages. Has anyone used google checkout in an asp.net MVC app?
