  • Error 0x80073cf9 when installing or updating apps from windows store

    On my Windows 8 desktop I keep getting error 0x80073cf9 when I try to install or update an app from the windows store. In the installings apps pane it just says "This app wasn't installed -- view details" and when I select that it says "Something happened and this app couldn't be installed. Please try again. Error code: 0x80073cf9" I am using the built-in windows firewall and antivirus. And my laptop is able to install updates when it is on the same network.   • URL Redirect Configuration in Virtualhost for a Single Page Web Application

    I have a web application under development that I am running locally. The home page of the application is fetched with the following url: http://local.dev/myapp/index.shtml When the app runs, javascript on the webpage maintains the url and the app state internally. Some of the other urls read as: http://local.dev/myapp/results?param1=val1&param2=val2 http://local.dev/myapp/someResource Note that there are no pages named results.html or someResource.html on my web server. They are just made up URLs to simulate RESTfulness in the single page app. All the app code - javascript, css etc - is present in the index.shtml file So, essentially, the question is how can I redirect all requests to the first URL above?   • tab complete not working for vim in particular directory - ubuntu 12.04

    I am working on a ruby on rails app. All of the sudden the command line tab complete stopped working for vim, only for files though, and only for the vim command (i.e. works for other commands, ls, rm etc.) After further investigation - this only occurs in a specific directory, the home directory of my rails app. If I go into a sub directory in my rails app, or any other directory on my machine, the tab complete works again. If I go into the root directory of any other rails app, it works. I also tried renaming the diretory, and copying the contents of the directory to another directory, and that did not work either. It only does not work for files, and works for any other command - ls, rm etc. But when I do vim /path/to/file/, then tab to see a list of files in that directory, only other directories show, not files. I am using ubuntu 12.04. Also, I tried re-installing vim, re-booting, removing ~/.viminfo (there was no vimrc file) that didn't work. Any help would be appreciated!

  • Custom Extensions on Managed Chromebooks

    I am a developer looking for the best way to set up different schools with their own custom, private extensions (ie School A should be the only one with access to Extension A). Theoretically, I am aware that there are a few ways to get a custom, private extension pushed out on a domain: Host the .crx on a server and click "Specify a Custom App" in the management console. Create a Domain App by uploading a zip to the Chrome Web Store Upload the extension from my developer account to the Chrome Web Store and publish to a single "trusted tester," or make it unlisted Option (1), hosting the .crx, has not been working. I am not sure why, but the extension is simply not pushing out. I link directly to the crx file, which has the right ID and MIME type, still, no dice. If anyone has any tips or suggestions for getting this to work, I would love to hear them! Option (2), having the school create a domain app, seems a bit inefficient because it requires all schools to upload their own zip. So essentially I would have to email a zip file to the school, and have them publish it. All updates to the extension will also require a similar process, so this doesn't seem ideal. I doubt that option (3) would work. If I published to the admin as a "trusted tester", I don't think that the other people in the domain would be able to access it. If it is unlisted, I do not know how an admin could find it in the Chrome Web Store dialog. Also, I would rather avoid security through obscurity. Has anyone had success with hosting the extension and using the Specify a Custom App feature? Any other suggestions for getting a Custom Extension pushed out by the management console?   • What is causing ocassional white windows on my Mac?

    Hello. I'm having a very strange problem with my Mac lately. When I'm working in an app and a new window pane or sheet is displayed, sometimes it comes up completely white. Once an app is having these problems, it will continue to bring up a blank screen for that particular window (although other windows work fine). After the app is relaunched, the window is fine again. What I'm noticing that's very strange is that although the interface turns completely white, the functions of the interface are still available. So I have to "navigate blindly" around the interface, until I can relaunch. This occurs throughout the operating system. Screenshots: This is what happened when I tried opening the File menu in Lightroom app. What happened to me on Lynda.com (in Firefox) after selecting the "Software..." dropdown. (All other dropdowns were fine. Reloading the page fixed it.) When I was decompressing a file, The Unarchiver launched and opened this white window. It still decompressed the file. This is what happened one time when I opened Finder (with TotalFinder) to my Downloads folder. This is something I've never seen before. This just started happening lately. What could be the problem?   • Apache reverse proxy with VirtualHost not serving a page

    I have an Apache reverse proxy set to move requests to a Tomcat Applet. The config is similar to: <VirtualHost 100.100.100.100:80> ProxyPass /AppName/App http://1.1.1.1/AppName/App ProxyPassReverse /AppName/App http://1.1.1.1/AppName/App </VirtualHost> I also have a page called summary.html that exists on 1.1.1.1 as: http://1.1.1.1/AppName/summary.html When I browse directly to it I have no problem viewing it, however if I try to get there via the reverse proxy I get a blank page. Wireshark shows me a 503, but this one is coming from the Apache reverse proxy (IP 100.100.100.100) and not the Tomcat (IP 1.1.1.1). Should I add http://1.1.1.1/AppName/ to the config? How? I tried it but I get a blank page, however this one shows on the URL bar of the browser the internal IP of the Tomcat, so, no go. Help is appreciated. Thanks.   • How do I run multiple MVC apps within a subdomain on IIS7?

    Hello and thanks for looking. Background I am currently wrapping up a development contract and the client would like for me to push a build of the application to their IIS 7-based server in which they would like to run multiple MVC apps. One of the issues I have off of the bat is that this server is already a subdomain on their larger network. So, if I enter SERVERNAME in my browser, it automatically directs to SERVERNAME.COMPANYNAME.COM. Now, this is just fine if I place my application in the default website/root. In this scenario, clicking a link that requests admin.html directs to `SERVERNAME.COMPANYNAME.COM/admin.html' as usual. BUT they want me to place the app in a subdomain on this server so that they can also run other apps on the same server. So I assume that I need MYAPP.SERVERNAME.COMPANYNAME.COM but I have no idea how to do that. Complicating matters is that my app and the future ones they wish to install are all MVC based which intercepts and re-writes URLs. I assume that this takes care of itself if I can just successfully get my app into a subdomain to begin with. What I have tried Creating a new site on the server in it's own app pool Setting the binding for that site to MYAPP.SERVERNAME.COMPANYNAME.COM Setting the binding for that site to MYAPP Setting the binding for that site to MYAPP.SERVERNAME Setting the binding for that site to MYAPP.SERVERNAME.COM Setting the binding for that site to MYAPP.COMPANYNAME.COM Nothing is working.   • Configure Apache + Passenger to serve static files from different directory

    I'm trying to setup Apache and Passenger to serve a Rails app. However, I also need it to serve static files from a directory other than /public and give precedence to these static files over anything in the Rails app. The Rails app is in /home/user/apps/testapp and the static files in /home/user/public_html. For various reasons the static files cannot simply be moved to the Rails public folder. Also note that the root http://domain.com/ should be served by the index.html file in the public_html folder. Here is the config I'm using: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName domain.com DocumentRoot /home/user/apps/testapp/public RewriteEngine On RewriteCond /home/user/public_html/%{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f RewriteCond /home/user/public_html/%{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ /home/user/public_html/$1 [L] </VirtualHost> This serves the Rails application fine but gives 404 for any static content from public_html. I have also tried a configuration that uses DocumentRoot /home/user/public_html but this doesn't serve the Rails app at all, presumably because Passenger doesn't know to process the request. Interestingly, if I change the conditions to !-f and !-d and the rewrite rule to redirecto to another domain, it works as expected (e.g. http://domain.com/doesnt_exist gets redirected to http://otherdomain.com/doesnt_exist) How can I configure Apache to serve static files like this, but allow all other requests to continue to Passenger?

  • Encrypting peer-to-peer application with iptables and stunnel

    I'm running legacy applications in which I do not have access to the source code. These components talk to each other using plaintext on a particular port. I would like to be able to secure the communications between the two or more nodes using something like stunnel to facilitate peer-to-peer communication rather than using a more traditional (and centralized) VPN package like OpenVPN, etc. Ideally, the traffic flow would go like this: app@hostA:1234 tries to open a TCP connection to app@hostB:1234. iptables captures and redirects the traffic on port 1234 to stunnel running on hostA at port 5678. stunnel@hostA negotiates and establishes a connection with stunnel@hostB:4567. stunnel@hostB forwards any decrypted traffic to app@hostB:1234. In essence, I'm trying to set this up to where any outbound traffic (generated on the local machine) to port N forwards through stunnel to port N+1, and the receiving side receives on port N+1, decrypts, and forwards to the local application at port N. I'm not particularly concerned about losing the hostA origin IP address/machine identity when stunnel@hostB forwards to app@hostB because the communications payload contains identifying information. The other trick in this is that normally with stunnel you have a client/server architecture. But this application is much more P2P because nodes can come and go dynamically and hard-coding some kind of "connection = hostN:port" in the stunnel configuration won't work.

    I have a Java application that needs to talk to another intranet website using HTTPS in both directions.   • Multiple Rails apps on same subdomain?

    I recently decided to try out Rails. When working with PHP, I simply had all of my PHP projects in the same directory. For example, I may have http://ubuntu/app1, http://ubuntu/app2, etc. I created a subdomain for Rails (http://ruby.ubuntu), installed Rails and Passenger and everything is working. However, I may be wrong, but it looks like I can only have one Rails app per subdomain? I don't want to have to create a new subdomain every time I create a new project. Is there any way I can make it so I can store all of my apps in /var/www/ruby, and browsing to http://ruby.ubuntu will let me access all of my Rails apps there? That way if I want to create a new app, all I have to do is rails new app, no Apache .htaccess or VirtualHost configuration required.

  • Some Apps don't start on Windows 8 Release Preview

    I recently installed the Release Preview of Windows 8 in a virtual machine. Some apps do not work. When I open them (by clicking on their tile in the start screen) I see a splash screen and nothing else happens. Sometimes the app crashes after 30 seconds, sometimes it just keeps on loading. A good example is the "Map"-App from Windows 8 or the app "Cookbook" by Bewise. I installed Cookbook and when I had a look at the task manager I saw that it was the 32bit version running, but I have an x64 Windows 8... Could this be a problem? Shouldn't the Windows Store download the correct version? This is the setup of my virtual machine: Windows 8 Release Preview x64 Oracle VirtualBox 4 of 8 cores from host system 8 of 16 GB RAM from the host system 256 MB graphics memory guest additions installed resolution 1920 x 1080 Do you need further information? Unfortunately there is no error message... I just see the start screen of the app with its logo and it keeps loading, but nothing happens. Other Apps (like Mail, Video, Social, etc.) work fine.

  • nginx: js file loads indifferently every refresh

    I have this nginx problem wherein a js file in a rails app loads indifferently.   • How to keep multiple servers in sync file wise?

    I'm currently managing a cluster of PHP-FPM servers, all of which tend to get out of sync with each other. The application that I'm using on top of the app servers (Magento) allows for admins to modify various files on the system, but now that the site is in a clustered set up modifying a file only modifies it on a single instance (on one of the app servers) of the various machines in the cluster. Is there an open-source application for Linux that may allow me to keep all of these servers in sync? I have no problem with creating a small VM instance that can listen for changes from machines to sync. In theory, the perfect application would have small clients that run on each machine to be synced, which would talk to the master server which would then decide how/what to sync from each machine. I have already examined the possibilities of running a centralized file server, but unfortunately my app servers are spread out between EC2 and physical machines, which makes this unfeasible. As there are multiple app servers (some of which are dynamically created depending on the load of the site), simply setting up a rsync cron job is not efficient as the cron job would have to be modified on each machine to send files to every other machine in the cluster, and that would just be a whole bunch of unnecessary data transfers/ssh connections.

  • Script apparently changing file permissions on Mac OS to 000

    I wrote a little shellscript that helps installing a web application. The script itself just downloads a zip archive, extracts it and changes the permissions of the extracted files to the one needed to run the webapp. The problem now is that some users reported that after running my script, all the permissions of every file in their home directory or even on their whole computer changed to 000 (except the actual unzipped files which do have the correct permissions). How can this even be possible? It is entirely possible that the users accidentally ran the script in their home directory, but that still wouldn't explain why the permissions where set to 000, not www/777.

  • Gradle + Robolectric: Where do I put the file org.robolectric.Config.properties?

    I'm trying to setup a test using Robolectric to click on a menu button in this repository. Basic Robolectric tests will run, but I'm not able to run any project-specific test using resources because it says it can't find my AndroidManifest.xml. After running ../gradlew clean check, here's the standard output from the Robolectric html file: WARNING: No manifest file found at ./AndroidManifest.xml.Falling back to the Android OS resources only. To remove this warning, annotate your test class with @Config(manifest=Config.NONE). I found these instructions which indicate I should create an org.robolectric.Config.properties file, but I'm not sure where to put it. I've tried everywhere, pretty much, and despite moving the file, the path in the error message is always the same as above (./AndroidManifest.xml). This makes me think the build process has never picked up the settings in the file org.robolectric.Config.properties. I also tried the @Config(manifest="") directive but this gave me a cannot find symbol error. If I move the AndroidManifest.xml into my project directory, then I get an error about it not being able to find the path ./res/values and I wasn't able to resolve that either. Any ideas? Update 1 Thanks Eugen, I'm now using @RunWith(RobolectricGradleTestRunner.class) instead of @RunWith(RobolectricTestRunner).
