• Mac Mail import from Entourage failed

  I am trying to import the entire Folder-structure from Entourage 2008 to Mac Mail on a Mac OS X 10.5.8. First I wanted to export the whole E-Mail Database from Entourage to Desktop as a .rge File. The export got aborted through a message which indicated that my Entourage database is corrupt and that I should rebuild it. I then went over to Mac Mail and imported the Entourage Folder-structure through File/import mailboxes.../Entourage. The bulky import did take some time and the progress bar never reached its full length. But at the end the import was successful. When I checked the imported folder-structure in Mac Mail I noticed that quiet a few Subfolders where missing. I checked Console and saw following message. Mail[2899] Applescript Error: aliasForMailImporter got an error: AppleEvent handler failed. Question: What does that mean and what can I do to get my subfolder-structure over completely?

• Restore monitor detection to one only or restore start menu to bottom

  I have a co-worker that is no longer able to see his start menu. He used to have it pinned to the left edge of his screen. I tried to troubleshoot it a bit and discovered if we do Windows + R then "cmd" [enter] the command prompt opens (but we don't see the start menu or run box), meaning the start menu is somewhere, just off screen. Restarting doesn't help. Is there some way to force Windows to think it only has a single monitor? It seems to "think" it has two but there's only one and we can get the Start menu back. Or, is there a way to restore the start menu to the bottom? Additional info We are able to right-click the desktop for display settings, etc. We can also get into Windows Explorer (via Ctrl + E) so if we need any of that to restore settings we can do it.

• What extra permission settings were added in Windows Server 2003 over Windows Server 2000?

  We have a domain controller currently running Windows Server 2000, and we're in the process of upgrading some of our workstations to Windows 7. The problem is that users are getting access denied messages to things they should be able to do, even trivial things like deleting shortcuts from the desktop. The users run at less than administrative levels, which we want to maintain. We think this is caused by Windows 7 having extra security permission settings that are getting defaulted to denied, because the new settings wouldn't actually exist in the Windows 2000 profiles. The reason I'm asking about Windows 2003 Server is because we have an available license of that, and not to 2008 (which would likely solve the problem completely, but costs $). So what I'd like to find out is if the permission settings in 2003 will be sufficient for our needs to justify upgrading the domain controller to 2003.

  Thanks to Lifehacker I came across Sikuli which is described as: Sikuli is a visual technology to search and automate graphical user interfaces (GUI) using images (screenshots). The first release of Sikuli contains Sikuli Script, a visual scripting API for Jython, and Sikuli IDE, an integrated development environment for writing visual scripts with screenshots easily. Sikuli Script automates anything you see on the screen without internal API's support. You can programmatically control a web page, a desktop application running on Windows/Linux/Mac OS X, or even an iphone application running in an emulator. As this looks very promising, perhaps complementary to AutoHotKey I'm curious what scripts you guys will come up with. Especially since this program is portable and could solve "simple" Super User problems. • Keyboard Shortcuts in Win 7 without the CTRL + ALT

  I am knew to this site and don't know if I'm doing this correctly. I've been asked to edit my original post so I deleted my original post and starting over. I don't know why it's so hard for everyone to understand what I'm trying to do. You guys are all geniuses when it comes to computers and I'm just starting out. I started out trying to use a shortcut to display the LOCAL AREA CONNECTION window on my desktop by creating a shortcut and assigning it CTRL + , (comma). Windows didn't like that so it added ALT which ended up being CTRL + ALT + ,. Since I couldn't figure out a way to eliminate ALT as part of the shortkey keys, I am now trying a different strategy and it's not working. my latest attempt is to run the following command; ^,:: Run, explorer:: {BA126ADB-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E} Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? • Setting up Windows 2008 with VPN and NAT

  I have a Windows 2008 box set up with VPN, and that works quite well. NPS is used to validate the VPN clients, who are able to access the private address of the server, once connected. I can't for the life of me get NAT working for the VPN clients, though. I've added NAT as a routing protocol, and set the one on in the VPN address pool as private, and the other as public - but it still won't NAT connections when I add a route through the VPN server's IP on the client side (route add SomeInternetIp IpOfPrivateInterfaceOnServer). I know I can reach the server's private interface (which happens to be 10.2.2.1) with remote desktop client, so I can't think of any issues with the VPN.

• bradford persistent agent login not coming up.

  Wired connection. Desktop. It downloads and installs fine but at the point where the login is supposed to pop up. Nothing happens. Bradford says I have normal network access and it never shows it scanning. It just installs and does nothing. I have all of the updates and everything Bradford needs. And I've used the internet at this dorm before witb this computer. Tried reinstalling.disabling my firewall. Any advice would be appreciated

  I have a Sony VGN-CR353 running Windows 7 Ultimate. For typing purposes I use two keyboards: The Inbuilt Laptop Keyboard A Standard External Desktop Grade USB Keyboard Since yesterday, My inbuilt keyboard's keys have gone all awry. This is Similar to http://superuser.com/questions/11537/keyboard-keys-not-working-or-resulting-in-the-wrong-key But the high point is that the external keyboard is working just fine. I have already tried System Restore, Reinstalling Keyboard Drivers etc. but to no avail. This is really bugging. Please Help. Thanks in Advance.

• GDM Won't Automatically Start After Boot

  Ubuntu 10.04 Hi guys. I'm not sure why but quite recently, my ubuntu desktop started bringing up the command prompt login screen after booting. I want GDM to start up by default. I can manually bring up GDM by typing: sudo service gdm start or sudo /usr/sbin/gdm but I want something more permanent. The contents of /etc/X11/default-display-manager point to /usr/sbin/gdm The chkconfig status for GDM shows that it's off on all run levels... could that be it? I tried running: sudo chkconfig --add gdm and just got errors... Any ideas? How can I get GDM to automatically come up again? Any/all help is appreciated! -M

• Since updating to today's version of Skype on Win8, Skype won't even log in

  I am using the desktop (win32 not appstore) Skype on Windows 8. I accepted an auto-update today which now will not let me log into skype at all. I wiped out the AppData\Roaming\Skype folder because that's how you get Skype back in the past when it has gone stupid, but that didn't help either. I do not get any error message, just the circular progress indicator that lasts forever. (Okay, so far it's been 30 minutes. It may eventually time out yet.) Other ideas please? I tried the Windows 8 App Store Skype app (WinRT), which I hate, I guess I'll go back and install that for now. Update Skype 6.0.126 seems to be completely broken on my Win8 machine.

• windowsupdate troubles on windowsxp after april 2014, plus an explorer error message

  I've spent the last couple of days trying to install windows xp from a cd onto my desktop. The installtion is successful, and I can activate windows, but cannot run windows update. The error I receive from windows update is: Error number: 0x80240036 I understand that after april 2014 microsoft is no longer developing new patches, but I have presumed that customers would continue to have access to all the patches that where made up to this date. How can I install these patches? Is this possible? As mentioned, I can install windows and activate, but cannot run windowsupdate (Error number: 0x80240036). Seperately, there is an error with a windows explorer pull down menu (item) that asks: Is this copy of windows legal? How can I get rid of this message? I am not running a pirated, or illegal copy of windows and this message should not be there. I want continue running windows xp without windows update, but I need to get rid of this windows explorer error message.

• CentOS vs. Ubuntu

  I had a web server that ran Ubuntu, but the hard drive failed recently and everything was erased. I decided to try CentOS on the machine instead of Ubuntu, since it's based on Red Hat. That association meant a lot to me because Red Hat is a commercial server product and is officially supported by my server's manufacturer. However, after a few days I'm starting to miss Ubuntu. I have trouble finding some of the packages I want in the CentOS repositories, and the third-party packages I've tried have been a hassle to deal with. My question is, what are the advantages of using CentOS as a server over Ubuntu? CentOS is ostensibly designed for this purpose, but so far I would prefer to use a desktop edition of Ubuntu over CentOS. Are there any killer features of CentOS which make it a better server OS? Is there any reason I shouldn't switch back to Ubuntu Server or Xubuntu?

• SMTP server (IIS) is running but can't test it with telnet

  I have a Windows 2003 web edition server that I can't seem to get the SMTP relay working. BT4 shows port 25 open. When I try use telnet to test it on my desktop I get: Connecting To XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX...Could not open connection to the host, on port 25: Connect failed. From the server I get: Microsoft Telnet> o 127.0.0.1 25 Connecting To 127.0.0.1... Connection to host lost. There isn't anything useful in the logs. Any ideas?

• Not able to run discovery in XenApp 6.5

  I am installing a fresh Citrix farm. I installed XenApp 6.5 and configured while configuring the XenApp, added domain\ctxadmin user as the farm administrator. Now when i log into Administrator account into the XenApp server and run discovery it says This user account is not an administrator of this farm, or there was a problem contacting the data store. Check that the data store server for the Citrix XenApp farm is online, and verify that your account is configured and enabled as an administrator on the farm Then I tried to RDP into the XenApp server as ctxadmin user and now I get an error "The Desktop you are trying to open is currently unavailable. Contact you system administrator to confirm the correct settings are in place for your client connection" I believe starting from XenApp version 6.x, once XenApp is installed, then a Citrix Policy needs to be changed as given in http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX124745 But for changing the Citrix policy I need to log into AppCenter which I am not able to do so as I am not able to run discovery as given above. So I am caught up in an end-less loop. Any help would be greatly appreciated

User1 and User2, user1 unlocked a encrypted drive, now he locks the desktop and user2 comes and open the system from his account. Now, user2 also can access the drive which user1 unlocked. User2 must not be able to open the drive. If he has the password the the drive then he might have access but not before that.

• How to troubleshoot a GPF?

  I get a GPF dialog box out of the blue fairly often (like about 2 hours after I turn on the computer). It basically says that svchost.exe had a failure... (see the corresponding Event Log entry below). Event Type: Error Event Source: Application Error Event Category: (100) Event ID: 1000 Date: 5/18/2010 Time: 7:41:16 PM User: N/A Computer: DKHA-IPSA Description: Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.5512, faulting module ole32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5512, fault address 0x0004eaa9. Shortly after this error pops up, the computer pretty much grinds to a halt (e.g. some UI elements on the desktop simply do not respond). And I have to do a hard reboot. How do I troubleshoot this type of thing? P.S. The PC has all the latest patches and nothing is missing in the Device Manager.

• VNC over SSH on open Tunnel

  Is it possible to bind VNC server to a open SSH tunnel? I have a tablet that has initiated a reverse ssh tunnel to my server. This works fine over port 8080. I need to now bind to this port from my local machine. It looks like Ubuntu has some "remote desktop viewier" that has ssh built in capabilities so I assume the only thing I need to do now is figure out how to bind the tablets VNCserver to the open SSH tunnel.   How can I automatically start a program on Amazon's EC2 Windows 2008 web servers? For example, if I wanted to test the "Digg effect" on a web page of mine, how could I open 100 windows 2008 servers at once, each loading one (or two?) instances of the firefox web browser? I have placed a sample batch file in the windows startup folder that echos the time it was called, but it is only started when I actually login remotely via the remote desktop protocol. • Is there a taskbar for OS X?

  I'd like to permanently see a clickable list of windows I have open, in the same way that the taskbar allows in Windows. Can I do this on Mac? Some details: i have many virtual desktops (spaces), so often a single application has windows on many of them. I often have multiple windows of each application, such as the terminal or browser, on the same virtual desktop I have multiple monitors, if it matters. Edit: When I say 'permanently see a clickable list of windows I have open' I mean that I want to see every window I have open, and I'd like to be able to click on each one to open that window. I'm not looking for the newer behaviour where tasks are clustered by application.

• Emulate "Go to Dekstop/Home/etc." behavior in OS X via AppleScript

  OS X has build in support for going to certain Folders (Home, Utilities, Desktop, etc.) via a Shortcut. I wanted to emulate this behavior for the the Downloads Folder. • Unable to access local network when Cisco VPN client is connected

  I'm a developer and don't have much networking expertise, so bear with me. I'm using the Cisco VPN Client 5.0.02.0090 to connect to my work's VPN that way I can RDP into my work computer. Once connected, I can't ping anything on the local network once connected to the VPN thus I am unable to access my work's network. This used to work about two weeks ago but abruptly stopped working today. However, I have the Cisco VPN Client installed on my laptop and I am able to ping and RDP into my work computer from there. Both my desktop and laptop computers are connected to the same router at home. I have tried the following so far: Rebooted my computer Reinstalled VPN client Updated NIC drivers Disabled firewall Opened up ports 500, 4500, and 10000 Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

• Accessing apache in ubuntu 10 virtualbox guest from ubuntu 10 host

  I did the following: installed VirtualBox 3.1.6 OSE in ubuntu 10 desktop. installed ubuntu 10 server on a virtual machine in VirtualBox. select "LAMP server" and "OpenSSH server" options during the ubuntu server installation. leave network "adapter 1" of virtual machine as "NAT". use "VBoxManage" described in manual to setup port forwarding on the host (Protocol: TCP, GuestPort: 80, HostPort: 8080). verify "ExtraDataItem" have been added to "ubuntuServer1.xml" (my virtual machine name) correctly. run command "pgrep apache" in ubuntu server in virtual machine to ensure apache is running. Everything went well. But, when I try to access the apache from the browser on the host with "http://localhost:8080/", it just continue fetching with no response. Now, I'm struck! Please help! • Toshiba Satellite laptop connected to HDTV

  I have a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6014 laptop running Windows 7 64-bit connected to a Toshiba Regza 42" HDTV with an HDMI cable. The laptop has a 16" display and the screen resolution is set to the maximum/recommended of 1366x768. The display output is set to "LCD+HDMI". The display looks fine on the laptop screen but on the TV it is not a "full screen" display, it leaves a good 3" black border all around all 4 edges. When I switch the display to "HDMI only", it is now too big for the TV screen and some of my desktop icons are no longer visible off to the side. What is the best way to set this up? I guess that since a 16" and 42" displays have different native resolutions, a LCD+HDMI mode is defaulting to the optimal size for the 16". But when I set it to HDMI Only, what is the appropriate resolution for a 42" full screen display? Thanks

• Old HP computer powers off after seconds, hard drive still spins. Power supply? Motherboard?

  Someone called me saying their computer keeps shutting off. I brought it home to troubleshoot. It's an HP Pavilion 513c. The computer powers on normally but almost immediately powers off. Sometimes it manages to make it to a fully loaded desktop and other times it powers off during the boot process. The hard drive still spins but there is no video and the CPU fans quit spinning. The power has to be unplugged before you can turn it back on again. I'm thinking it's either a motherboard or power supply issue. I don't have a spare of either component laying around to test with. Any guess on which part is more likely to be the culprit? Thanks.
