  • Problematic tags displaying HTML in Java

    Hi again, I have the following tag included in my HTML which causes the JEditorPane not to show the HTML output. <META http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> Not so much a big deal but anyone know why this would happen? Cannot find too much documentation on this - best I came up with was someone having a go a few years ago to see what was supported on retro virus site. At the minute I'm doing a simple find replace on the string which is not good - are there any better ways? I've seen a lot of people saying that RegEx is no good.     I am wanting to create a gihub repository that offers benchmarking code that works for concurrent features available only in JDK 1.7 (Fork/Join) as well as for older ones found in JDK 1.6. Offering both options is important for what I need. Does anyone have a recommendation how should I structure the repository. I was planning on having a repo called and under it: jdk17 build src mycode ... jdk16 build src mycode Please suggest any alternatives, possibly use of Maven or other more practical approaches, if any.

  • Relating text fields to check boxes in Java

    This program requires the user to login and request a database to access. The program then gets a connection object, searches through the database storing the column names into a vector for later use. The problem comes with implementing text fields to allow the user to search for specific values within the database. I can get the check boxes and text fields to appear using a gridlayout and add them to a panel. How do I relate the text fields to their appropriate check box? I've tried adding them to a vector, but then they can't also be added to the panel as well. I've searched for a way to name the text fields as the loop cycles through the column names, but it seems impossible to do without having them declared ahead of time. This can't be done either, as it's impossible to determine the attributes that the user will request. I just need to be able to know the names of the text fields so I can test to see if the user entered information and perform the necessary logic. Let me know if you have to see the rest of the code to give an answer, but hopefully you get the general idea of what I'm trying to accomplish.   • Is there a faster method to match an arbitrary String to month name in Java

    Hello, I want to determine if a string is the name of a month and I want to do it relatively quickly. The function that is currently stuck in my brain is something like: boolean isaMonth( String str ) { String[] months = DateFormatSymbols.getInstance().getMonths(); String[] shortMonths = DateFormatSymbols.getInstance().getShortMonths(); int i; for( i = 0; i<months.length(); ++i;) { if( months[i].equals(str) ) return true; if( shortMonths[i].equals(str ) return true; } return false; } However, I will be processing lots of text, passed one string at a time to this function, and most of the time I will be getting the worst case of going through the entire loop and returning false. I saw another question that talked about a Regex to match a month name and a year which could be adapted for this situation. Would the Regex be faster? Is there any other solution that might be faster?

    ok so im making my own Matrix class. and i have a transpose method that transposes a matrix. this is the block in the main method Matrix m1 = new Matrix(4,2); m1.fillMatrix(1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8); System.out.println("before " + m1.toString()); m1.transpose(); System.out.println("after " + m1.toString()); this is where it gets messed up, at m1.transpose(); in the transpose() method public Matrix transpose() { if(isMatrix2) { Matrix tempMatrix = new Matrix(row, col); // matrix2 contents are emptied once this line is executed for(int i=0; i < row; i++) { for(int j=0; j < col; j++) tempMatrix.matrix2[i][j] = matrix2[i][j]; } so for some reason, the tempMatrix.matrix2 has the same id as this.matrix2. so when the codes executes Matrix tempMatrix = new Matrix(row,col); then the contents of this.matrix2 is emptied. anyone know what might be going on here?

  • synchronizing reads to a java collection

    so i want to have an arraylist that stores a series of stock quotes. but i keep track of bid price, ask price and last price for each. of course at any time, the bid ask or last of a given stock can change. i have one thread that updates the prices and one that reads them. i want to make sure that when reading no other thread is updating a price. so i looked at synchronized collection. but that seems to only prevent reading while another thread is adding or deleting an entry to the arraylist. so now i'm onto the wrapper approach: public class Qte_List { private final ArrayList<Qte> the_list; public void UpdateBid(String p_sym, double p_bid){ synchronized (the_list){ Qte q = Qte.FindBySym(the_list, p_sym); q.bid=p_bid;} } public double ReadBid(String p_sym){ synchronized (the_list){ Qte q = Qte.FindBySym(the_list, p_sym); return q.bid;} } so what i want to accomplish with this is only one thread can be doing anything - reading or updating an the_list's contents - at one time. am i approach this right? thanks.

    I'm having issues figuring out how to get my code to increment the string that is given by user input so that when a user chooses to replace a letter like z it would go to a, b to c ect. The catch is I have to do this without using boolean. I am supposed to get this by using arithmetics to get the promotion from z to a from the users input. Plus must be only lower case letters from a-z. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

    I'm having some difficulties with the following problem: I'm making a little game where you're at a specific spot and each spot has each some possible directions. The available directions are N(ord),E(ast),S,W . I use the function getPosDirections to get the possible directions of that spot. The function returns the directions into an ArrayList<String> e.g. for spot J3: [E,W] Now the game goes like this: 2 dice will be rolled so you get a number between 2 and 12, this number represents the number of steps you can make. What I want is an ArrayList of all the possible routes e.g.: I throw 3 and I'm currently at spot J3: [[E,N,E],[E,N,S],[E,S,E],[E,S,S],[W,N,E],[W,N,S],[W,S,E],[W,S,S]] How would obtain the last mentioned Array(list)?

    I am executing a stored procedure which has 2 cusors within the stored procedure. The 1st cursor which is not return to the jdbc as a resultset is closed within the stored procedure. The 2nd cursor which returns the resultset to the jdbc is not closed within the stored procedure. Upon executing I encounter cursor is closed exception which is puzzling. Since the ResultSet will close all underlying cursor upon invoking the close() method

    Hello everyone, In my code, all of the scripts are contained in .js files. Whenever one of the scripts contains an error, I get this: javax.script.ScriptException: sun.org.mozilla.javascript.internal.EcmaError: ReferenceError: "nonexistant" is not defined. (<Unknown source>#5) in <Unknown source> at line number 5 What bugs me is the <Unknown Source>. Multiple files are in one ScriptContext, and it can be hard to track down an error. It also looks horrible. Is there a way to replace <Unknown Source> with the actual file name? None of the methods I see support passing a File object, so I'm really confused here.

  • Waiting for a subset of threads in a Java ThreadPool

    Let's say I have a thread pool containing X items, and a given task employs Y of these items (where Y is much smaller than X). I want to wait for all of the threads of a given task (Y items) to finish, not the entire thread pool. If the thread pool's execute() method returned a reference to the employed thread I could simply join() to each of these Y threads, but it doesn't. Does anyone know of an elegant way to accomplish this? Thanks.
