  • Field annotated multiple times by the same attribute

    - by Jaroslaw Waliszko
For my ASP.NET MVC application I've created custom validation attribute, and indicated that more than one instance of it can be specified for a single field or property: [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Field | AttributeTargets.Property, AllowMultiple = true)] public sealed class SomeAttribute: ValidationAttribute I've created validator for such an attribute: public class SomeValidator : DataAnnotationsModelValidator<SomeAttribute> and wire up this in the Application_Start of Global.asax DataAnnotationsModelValidatorProvider.RegisterAdapter( typeof (SomeAttribute), typeof (SomeValidator)); Finally, if I use my attribute in the desired way: [SomeAttribute(...)] //first [SomeAttribute(...)] //second public string SomeField { get; set; } when validation is executed by the framework, only first attribute instance is invoked. Second one seems to be dead. I've noticed that during each request only single validator instance is created (for the first annotation). How to solve this problem and fire all attributes?

  • ASP.NET MVC vs. Jquery/AJAX (Where to draw the dividing line?)

    - by punkouter
I am learning MVC and I understand the basics now. It is very good for CRUD pages and has built in HTTP methods to post/get edits/updates. That is nice. This is all very testable by just creating a new controller and testing it. But I was thinking about other web page scenerios when using MVC. What about a page that has 2 listboxes that you add/remove users with. (A button will move the user from one listbox to another) This would be done using Jquery/Javascript... But then what happens to testing? How do you test adding/removing users from a listbox like that example? It seems to me the more jquery you use the less testable the page becomes right? When you get beyond basic forms being filled out then you need to use something more than the standard MVC pages. What is the correct philosophy on this on when am I not understanding ?

  • ASP.NET permissions issues

    - by Paul
Im using Windows Server 2008, IIS7, .NET 4 and when I use the FileUpload control to save a file to a directory I get : Access to the path 'C:\xxx\Websites\CMS\Admin\test' is denied. I have given the test folder full control permissions for NETWORK SERVICE but it makes no difference. I have given full control to the Everyone user but makes no difference. It might have something to do with the fact that up in the CMS folder there is a MVC web application and in the CMS\Admin folder there is a web forms web application. It is the web forms web application that is trying to upload the file and getting the permissions error. Can anyone offer a suggestion.

  • How many SQL queries per HTTP request is optimal?

    - by Chris Kooken
I know the answer to this question for the most part is "It Depends", however I wanted to see if anyone had some pointers. We execute queries each request in ASP.NET MVC. Each request we need to get user rights information, and Various data for the Views that we are displaying. How many is too much, I know I should be conscious to the number of queries i am executing. I would assume if they are small queries and optimized out, half-a-dozen should be okay? Am I right? What do you think?

  • Adding an ASP website in IIS7.5 on Windows 7

    - by birdus
enter preformatted text hereI'm trying to add an ASP website under IIS 7.5 on Windows 7 and am having no luck so far. This site is just for me to hit locally. I need to make some changes to some of the HTML in some of the ASP files and I just need to be able to test my changes as I make them. I installed IIS and checked the box for ASP. Next, I added an Application Pool which I called ASP and which has "No Managed Code" and "ASP" set. Next, I added the website by right-clicking "Sites" then clicking "Add Web Site...". I gave it a name, set it to use the ASP app pool, pointed it to the path where the ASP code is (I left it at pass-through authentication), and typed in 5555 as the port, so as to not interfere with the default website. The code is sitting on my server and the path simply uses the mapped drive that I always use to access files on that drive array. When I type in http://mysite:5555, I get "could not find mysite:5555". I don't really know if all these settings are correct or what else I should try. What am I missing? Thanks, Jay

  • URL Routing in ASP.NET 4.0

In the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, Microsoft introduced ASP.NET Routing, which decouples the URL of a resource from the physical file on the web server. With ASP.NET Routing you, the developer, define routing rules map route patterns to a class that generates the content. For example, you might indicate that the URL <code>Categories/<i>CategoryName</i></code> maps to a class that takes the <i>CategoryName</i> and generates HTML that lists that category's products in a grid. With such a mapping, users could view products for the Beverages category by visiting <code>www.yoursite.com/Categories/Beverages</code>.In .NET 3.5 SP1, ASP.NET Routing was primarily designed for <a href="http://www.asp.net/mvc/">ASP.NET MVC</a>

  • PageMethods In ASP.NET AJAX

Page Methods is a new mechanism in ASP.NET applications where the server code can be bound to ASP.NET pages. It is an easy way to communicate asynchronously with the server using ASP.NET AJAX technologies. It is an alternate to calling the page which is reliable and carries a low risk. It is basically used to expose the web methods to the client script.

  • ASP.NET MVC Cookbook &ndash; public review

I have recently started writing another book. The topic of this book is ASP.NET MVC. This book differs from my previous book in that rather than working towards building one project from end to end this book will demonstrate specific topics from end to end. It is a recipe book (hence the cookbook name) and will be part of the Packt Publishing cookbook series. An example recipe in this book might be how to consume JSON, creating a master /details page, jquery modal popups, custom ActionResults, etc....Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • SharpDOM, view engine for ASP.NET MVC

Hi everyone! There is a new view engine for ASP.NET MVC platform, SharpDOM, http://sharpdom.codeplex.com. It's targeting hard coders who appreciate code-first approach a lot. This view engine combines pure HTML layout and the view logic in rather consistent manner, so that HTML layout still looks like HTML layout but it is C# code now :-) If you are interested, please, navigate to SharpDOM project on CodePlex site for more details - http://sharpdom.codeplex.com. • Inconsistencies in Health Monitoring Between WebForms and MVC

As I have written and spoken on numerous occasions, Health Monitoring happens to be one of my favorite features in ASP.NET. In WebForms, it's a path well trodden. However, while building Morts & Elvises with MVC2, I ran into a strange inconsistency, which I'd like to describe here. WebForms Whenever a WebForm throws an unhandled exception, at the very least the error is written to the system's even log. Suppose we have this silly simple page method: protected override void OnLoad...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors?
