• How to create animated sliding windows/tabs menu?

  I have created navigation menu in YUI 2.8 as below : I have also animated tabs using CSS transitions. CSS transitions are not widely supported by browsers and my animations are not working in Opera, IE etc. Since i'm already using YUI 2.8 on that page, can somebody tell me how do i animate those tabs? When i click on any tab, it should expand in vertical dimension smoothly (animated). Below are the properties of tabs which are going to change when i select any tab (Below properties of tabs should be animated) : Paddings Margins Background-Color Borders Please note in above image : There is little space left on right side in case #1 when 1st tab is selected. In case #2 and case #3 there is space left on left as well as right side. In case #4, there is some space left on left side when last tab is selected.

• Guice Problem with Tests

  Hey I wrote a LudoGame and now I like to test it with a little GuiceInjection^^ I have an Interface IDie for my die. Now for the game I only need an IDie instead of a realdie = in tests I simply give the LudoGame a MokeDie to set up the Numbers I like to roll. The IDie has only one method: roll() which returns a int. BUT the mokeDie now has another public method: sendNextNumber() (should be clear what this does^^) Now I like to @Inject a Die and if @UseMokeDie is before a Test I'll like to pass the MokeDie but I'm very new to Guice... • How to programatically set a permanent environment variable in Linux?

  I am writing a little install script for some software. All it does is unpack a target tar, and then i want to permanently set some environment variables - principally the location of the unpacked libs and updating $PATH. Do I need to programmatically edit the .bashrc file, adding the appropriate entries to the end for example, or is there another way? What's standard practice? Edit: The package includes a number of run scripts (20+) that all use these named environment variables, so I need to set them somehow (the variable names have been chosen such that a collision is extremely unlikely)

• Using Google to find programming answers (does locale matter)?

  I have overseas developers working for me, and sometimes I am surprised they can't find the same resources online that I do. They are in a South America country... and Google defaults to their language/locale. What do you think about this, when using it to solve computer programs? There is very little software development done in their country (as compared to the US). Is Google skewing their results for articles in their language or posted on sites that are local to them? Should I insist that they bypass their local Google search and have them use the US version?

• Paginator (Migration from Cake 1.3 to 2.0

  i am struggling with the paginator in cakephp 2.0. While i am trying to migrate my application to 2.0 i cant find any solution to jump directly to the last page. In 1.3 it was quiet to do that from outside like this: echo $this->Html->link(__('Flights'), array('controller' => 'flights', 'action' => 'index','page' => 'last')); but this little trick putting 'page:last' in does not work anymore in 2.0. Of course there is a Paginator function called last, but this would only help if i would be already inside the app. My Problem is to access from an outside link directly the last page of the paginator. I would like to be able to run this from my controller $user = User::find_by_username(param); $user = User::find_by_email(param); I've read a little about overloading and think that's the key. I'v got a static $_attributes in my AR class and I get the table name by pluralizing my model (User = users) in this case. How do I do this? All models extends the ActiveRecord class.

• Generating data on unlevel background

  I want to make an unlevel background and then generate some test data on that using Matlab. I was not clear when I asked this question earlier. So for this simple example for i = 1:10 for j = 1:10 f(i,j)=X.^2 + Y.^2 end end where X and Y have been already defined, it plots it on a flat surface. I don't want to distort the function itself, but I want the surface that it goes onto to be unlevel, changed by some degree or something. I hope that's a little clearer.

So... i've got an image gallery with thumbs, and everything goes well.. except... when i click on the first image... it shows - ok, but i can go to the next image by clicking "next". It's loading all the time. When i choose second image... everything is allright, and i can skip to the next images... but i also cannot go back to the first one.

  Consider the following little piece of code: // all of these include other headers, lots of code: #include "myheader1.h" #include "myheader2.h" #include <string> void foo() { string s("hello world"); // oh no, why does this compile?? } This compiles, so obviously some of the recursively included header files has a using namespace std; somewhere. How would you go about finding out where that offending line of code is? Just using grep on all header files won't really work because that statement is often used inside a function, where it is safe and won't pollute the rest of the code.

• IE7 preventDefault() not working on skip links

  I currently have skip links that jump to the div ids and was using e.preventDefault() to stop the url from changing when jumping to the element but in IE7 and IE8 it doesn't work at all using e.preventDefault() and if I take it out the url changes to the div the anchor tag contains reference to. Is their any fix or way around this? • "this" in JavaScript

  I'm trying to understand the syntax of how to put together a JavaScript function as an object. Q: Is this the right way to do it? The reason why I ask is because I'm looking at it in Firebug and I was hoping to be able to drill down and see the value of myVar and myVariable, but instead Firebug only says that "this" is an object Object. var myObject = { init: function() { var myVar = 1; myObject.myVariable = 2; console.log('"this" when called as an object: ' + this); } } myObject.init(); Also, what's the funny little syntax to call it directly upon declaration? Something about (), but when I remove the last line and put () at the end of the declaration, I get a syntax error.

• how do I repaint an applet while moving a sprite?

  I have a little java applet where I create 2 threads, one thread repaints and the other moves an image from a point to where the user clicks. The problem is that when I call the move function it loops until the image is where the user clicks but it wont repaint until I break out of the loop even though the thread doing the moving and the thread doing the painting are separate. shortened version of key points: my program is an applet using the paint() method I have 2 threads one moves an image and the other paints that image when I am moving the image it is in a while loop the painting thread is still calling repaint() but that is as far as the call goes, it never repaints thank you for your time.

• How to convert from one co-ordinate system to another (graphics)

  I've been having issues with this for a little while now. I feel like I should know this but I can't for the life of me remember. How can I map the screen pixels to their respective 'graphical' x,y positions? The co-ordinate systems have been configured to start at the bottom left (0,0) and increase to the top-right. I want to be able to zoom, so I know that I need to configure the zoom distance into the answer. Screen |\ Some Quad | \--------|\Qx | \ Z | \ | \ \|Qy \ | Sx\ |Sy \| I want to know which pixels on my screen will have the quad on it. Obviously as Z decreases, the quad will occupy more of the screen, and as Z increases it will occupy less, but how exactly are these calculated? Thanks for any help.

  Hi, I'm relatively new to Watir but can find no good documentation (examples) regarding how to check if an element exists. There are the API specs, of course, but these make precious little sense to me if I don't find an example. I've tried both combinations but nothing seems to work... if browser.image (:src "/media/images/icons/reviewertools/editreview.jpg").exists then... if browser.image (:src "/media/images/icons/reviewertools/editreview.jpg").exists? then... If anyone has a concrete suggestion as per how to implement this, please help! Thanks!

Specifically, it will use Find.find and append the files to an Array for later output. I'd like to write a spec to test this behaviour but don't really know where to start in terms of faking a directory of files and stubbing Find.find etc. This is what little I have so far: it "should return a list of files within the specified directory" do end Any help much appreciated!

I'm looking to create an options table in my db that makes every record a system option, so i can work with a little number of fields. my db has the following structure: 3 columns named id, name, and value following data is inserted as an example -- id - name - value 1 - uri - www.example.com 2 - sitename - Working it out 3 - base_folder - /folder1/folder2/ 4 - slogan - Just a slogan for the site -- that way i can include a large number of customizable system options very easily the problem is that i don't know how to retrieve them how do i get the value of uri and store it as a var? and better yet, how do i get, for exmaple, values of id 1 and 4 only without making a query each time? (i assume multiple queries are useless and a pretty ugly method) i know the question is pretty basic but i'm lost here. i'd really appreciate your answer! Thanks in advance

• Very basic database theory.

  I have a set of tables to show the relationship between organziations and supporters below. Although I have done some basic mySQL querries, I know very little about database 'design'. I plan to querry the database for: -a list of contributors to a specific organization... or, -a list of organizations that a specific suporter supports. The database tables for organiations and contributors may have other columns in the future and recieve a lesser amount of querries based on that information. • Rails subscription limitations

  I have an application with set limits on subscription attributes i/e a user can have five projects for subscription A but have ten for subscription B At present I run a check on there current usage when linking to the create action and if they are over there limit I do not display the link to create a new project. On the view (for the new project ) I again run the check (in a helper) to see if they can create a new project and if they are not I display a message stating so and a little upgrade link. Is this a secure method of stopping a user bypassing there subscription attribute limitations ? What about direct PUT requests etc ?

  For practice purposes, I am looking to build an application that is capable of connecting multiple devices through the internet. It will be similar to craigslist, but I want to make this as an iOS application. I have very little experience with web services, as the most I've done is pulled an RSS feed onto the screen. How are these things normally done? If it's similar to a message board, is it as simple as having a database in a server/cloud, and giving all users access to it? Or is it more complicated than that? How should I begin to learn more about the backend? What kind of services are usually used in this kind of thing? The only database I've used is Core Data.

  Hi, I'm trying to get better at C++ (I know a little). I'm working on character arrays. I found an exercise where the objective is to reverse a character array (after I convert it from an integer). I'm getting the following error (using VS2005): Run-Time Check Failure #2 - Stack around the variable 'revBuffer' was corrupted. • Considerations when porting a MS VC++ program (single machine) to a rocks cluster

  I am trying to port a MS VC++ program to run on a rocks cluster! I am not very good with linux but I am eager to learn and I imagine porting it wouldn't be an impossible task for me. However, I do not understand how to take advantage of the cluster nodes. because it seems that the code execute only runs on the front end server (obviously). I have read a little about MPI and its seems like I should use MPI to comminicate between nodes. The program is currently written such that I have a main thread that synchronizes all worker threads. The main thread also recieves commands to manipulate the simulation or query its state. If the simulation is properly setup, communication between executing threads can be significantly minimized. What I don't understand is how do I start the process on the compute nodes and how do I handle failures in nodes? And maybe there should be other things I should also consider when porting my program to run in a cluster?

• Python 2.7 creating a multidimensional list

  I don't know why I am having so much trouble creating a 3 dimensional list. I need the program to create an empty n by n list. So for n = 4: x = [[[],[],[],[]],[[],[],[],[]],[[],[],[],[]],[[],[],[],[]]] I've tried using: y = [n*[n*[]]] y = [[[]]* n for i in range(n)] Which both appear to be creating copies of a reference. I've also tried naieve application of the list builder with little success: y = [[[]* n for i in range(n)]* n for i in range(n)] y = [[[]* n for i in range(1)]* n for i in range(n)] I've also tried building up the array iteratively using loops, with no success. In my rapid flurry of attempts to not post something stupidly easy to SO, I came upon a solution: y = [] for i in range(0,n): y.append([[]*n for i in range(n)]) Is there an easier/ more intuitive way of doing this?
