  I am trying to install Php on Vista (IIS 7). The installation and configuration seems to be fine. Pretty much followed everything mentioned in http://blogs.iis.net/bills/archive/2006/09/19/How-to-install-PHP-on-IIS7-_2800_RC1_2900_.aspx I can even bring up a test.php which is basically and can also connect to mysql db through code. But when I try to bring up some other php page like drupal's index page or phpmyadmin index page, it brings up a Php access violation message. Any clue whats happening? Also is there some tracing/diagnositic tool for php to trace whats happenign on the webserver.

• Project Active Executable can no longer be iPhone 3.2

  I don't know how much you can help me because its under the NDA, but I recently updated to the OS 4 beta 3 xcode version. My project worked fine under 3.2 but under 4.0 parts are a not quite right I assume because it is still being developed. Every other installation of the beta sdk I could go into the project settings and select the iPhone 3.2 sdk and then change the target iPhone OS in the top left of Xcode but not this one. If I select 3.2 it still loads on 4.0 it seems I only have the 4.0 simulator. Under Active Target there is only 4.0. Any ideas how to get the 3.2 Simulator back?

• Blackberry Eclispe plugin and emulator

  So I installed the following installation packages to develop Blackberry apps using the included emulators. I first installed them on a macbook pro, virtualizing windows 7 x86 with vmware. Everything worked fine, I created a quick HelloWorld app and it compiled and fully ran in the emulator. I did no other configuration. So I went to install this on my desktop PC with Windows 7 x64. I installed the exact same items. When I choose to run with the Blackberry Emulator, nothing happens. Any ideas? • Installing Win32 shared SxS policy via WiX 3.0 MSM fails for 2nd app

  I am attempting to author a merge module for use by multiple application installers to install a Win32 Shared SxS Assembly and its associated Policy. I'm using WiX 3.0 to generate the MSM and test MSIs. So far it works fine for the first app installer that runs … but the second app installer fails because the Policy file already exists (HRESULT: 0x800700B7). What requirement(s) for correct Win32 Shared SxS Policy installation am I missing? I have submitted WiX bug 3005301 for this (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=642714&aid=3005301&group_id=105970) and posted VS2008 projects that reproduce the problem. • How do you work out the IIS Virtual Path for an application?

  When I try to change the ASP.NET version to v4 on IIS 6, I receive the following warning: Changing the Framework version requires a restart of the W3SVC service. Alternatively, you can change the Framework version without restarting the W3SVC service by running: aspnet_regiis.exe -norestart -s IIS-Viirtual-Path Do you want to continue (this will change the Framework version and restart the W3SVC service)? How do I work out IIS-Virtual-Path? I have tried the obvious paths i.e.: aspnet_regiis.exe -norestart -s "/WebSites/Extranet/AppName" Where WebSites is the name of the folder in IIS, Extranet the name of the root app and AppName the name of the Virtual Directory application I am trying to change. Thanks! • How to make it easy for users to install my software? Does the programming language matter?

  I'm a beginner to intermediate programmer and I've learned some java and C#. I want to start thinking about making some simple programs that I can release to the world. Just some basic stuff like calendar software that will probably be free. Users want the install process to be quick and easy. To install a java program, I have to tell them to have java installed. To install a C# program, I have to tell them to have .NET installed. I'm worried this might put off some potential users who just want to double click an exe file, choose a directory and be pretty much done. So, I guess this is an either/or two part question: 1) Is there a programming language that makes it easier to set up an installer without requiring users to have other stuff installed? or: 2) Is there some way to set up an installer that checks the system to see if it has java/.NET/whatever, and then includes java/.Net/whatever in the installation if it's not already there?

  Since I have tried to install xapian but failed, I try another alternative with xapian-full.   I want to use the SqlExpress2008 Bootstrapper for a new installation on Windows7, I do not want to use the default SQLEXPRESS Instance.   The MVC 2.0 RTM works great on my old Vista computer with VWD 2008 Express, but I just bought a new computer with Windows 7 Pro, I installed VWD 2008 Express SP1 and MVC 2.0 RTM by using Web PI 2.0. but after installation, I found the VWD doesn't have any MVC options, that means I can't either create new MVC projects or compile existing MVC projects. Why? What other steps I need to do to make it work? I'm sure the MVC has been installed properly since my MVC site on the new computer works well (so the IIS side has no problem), just the VWD can't 'realize' that the MVC framework is already installed... (tried to uninstall and install many times, and I also tried to install MVC separately without Web PI, but it just won't work)

• SQL Server 2000 tables

  We currently have an SQL Server 2000 database with one table containing data for multiple users. The data is keyed by memberid which is an integer field. The table has a clustered index on memberid. The table is now about 200 million rows. Indexing and maintenance are becoming issues. We are debating splitting the table into one table per user model. This would imply that we would end up with a very large number of tables potentially upto the 2,147,483,647, considering just positive values. My questions: Does anyone have any experience with a SQL Server (2000/2005) installation with millions of tables? What are the implications of this architecture with regards to maintenance and access using Query Analyzer, Enterprise Manager etc. What are the implications to having such a large number of indexes in a database instance. • Automating custom field creation in Redmine

  I want to write a plugin for redmine that will depend on quite a few custom fields, so I would like to create the custom fields automatically. Ideally within the plugin code, or if not by a script I can run when I install the plugin - I really don't want to have to create 10+ fields through the web interface when I set this up, especially when one is a list with quite a few values. Can anyone tell me if there are standard ways of doing this? Also is there a good way to export the custom fields from an existing installation?

• Trying to compile VS2008 project on Win 64 bit which is custom Powershell PSSnapin

  Library Project compiles fine for ANY CPU in VS2008 running on Win 7 64 -bit. Now in the post build following command fails when attemptiong to register library dll: PS C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727 .\installutil C:\path\Project.dll Exception occurred while initializing the installation: System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\path\Project.dll' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.. Do I need to compile the project as x64 I was under impression that AnyCPU will take care of it. Alo my library does have dependencies. Do they also need to be compiled as x64 bit? Any help is appreciated.

  I need to create a bootstrap for my WiX project I've tried using setupbld.exe but it will only allow me to create an executable that will show my UI or one that will behave as a silent installer but not both. I need to be able to run the resulting executable with argument that will tell it wether or not to show the UI during installation. I've found this post by John Robbins that explains how to re-build the setup.exe stub used in the creation of the bootstrap but I was hoping there is a simpler way to do what I need. Does anyone know of a way to create a bootstrap that I use to run either as a simple (with UI) install or as a silent install.

• How to have a PHP Website tool with a version check

  Hi, So I work on a small php website tool that a few people use and what I'm looking to have added is a little version checker in it. The tool is normally hosted by others on different servers/domains/whatever have you so I'm having a bit of a trouble figuring out how I can accomplish this and do so in the best possible method. So what I'm looking to do is have a webpage that just has a number on it which is the latest version. Lets say 3.2.2 is displayed on www.myawesomephptool.com/version.html in some way shape or form . Now on their installation when they open up their admin page it pulls in that 3.2.2 as the latest version to see if they are on that version. So trying to keep it simple on requirements too. • Installing Wordpress - constant PHP/MySQL extension appears missing

  I've got Win2003 w/IIS6, PHP 5 and MySQL installed. I can confirm PHP is installed correctly because I have a testMe.php that runs properly. When I run the Wordpress setup, I get informed that Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress. But in my PHP.ini in the DYNAMIC EXTENSIONS section I have extension=php_mysql.dll extension=php_mysqli.dll I verified that mysql.dll and libmysql.dll are both in my PHP directory. I copied my libmysql.dll to the C:\Windows\System32 directory. When I try to run the initial setup for WordPress, I get this answer. I've Googled setting this up, and everything comes down to the above. I'm missing something, but none of the instructions that I've found online seem to cover whatever that is.

• XCode 3.2 - can't create Objective-C class

  My installation of XCode 3.2 has begun to exhibit some strange behaviour. When I try to add a basic Objective-C classs (inheriting from NSObject), in my iPhone project, I get the following popup: "Alert. Couldn't load the next page". The above-mentioned error happens at the point of trying to create the file (i.e. the creation process doesn't get to the stage where you are asked to input the file name). It might also be worth mentioning that where there previously used to be a description for the file (in the file creation window) it now states "No description available". I can create other files (e.g. UIViewController subclass etc.) but not the basic Objective-C class. I have updated the documentation and restarted the machine and xcode several times without success. I would be extremely grateful for any assistance as I am relatively new to the XCode environment.

• Building a Java EE app on Mac OS X Snow Leopard for Glassfish 3

  I'm having a bit of a problem building a Java Enterprise Edition web application on Mac OS X 10.6.2 using Ant 1.7.1, Glassfish v3 and Java EE 6. The problem is that the build process does not find the Java EE libraries which fair enough as I don't think Apple supply them with the default Java installation but I know they exist in the Glassfish distribution. Which jars are the correct ones to build against (I'm assuming javaee.jar is a general jar which references all the other needed jars) and what should I be putting in my ant build.xml file? Any help is very much appreciated.

  Hi, We're experiencing a strange problem with Oracle RAC and McAfee anti-virus. As part of the installation of the Oracle RAC we disable anti virus as directed. We have had our RAC running fine, but when we came to re-enable the AV and reboot we got the BSOD. Abnormal Program Termination (BugCheck, STOP: 0x00000035 (0x8E984678, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000 NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS Following the standard process of raising this problem with Microsoft they identify the problem and also a fix. Microsoft talk about too many file filter drivers being present and pushing the DFS upper limit beyond the default size. Upping this value, as per msdn, has no impact. We're able to recover from this BSOD by disabling AV. We don't have the problem if we run the AV service manually whilst the system is up. However, if we make the service automatic we fail to boot. Then tried updating the index and got the following error: Unable to update index for central|http://repo1.maven.org/maven2 While trying to edit the proxy settings through windows-preferences-maven-user settings, I realise there is no such file. • Using Linux vs Windows for development

  On my servers I run everything on Linux/ Apache, but for offline preparation before upload of the projects I'm using Windows (Vista) with a local Apache/ WAMP, PHP, Python, GD_image installation and so on. My question, would it be much easier in terms of setting up a good environment if I were to use Linux, e.g. Ubuntu distribution, as development OS for these things? Would you know some pros and cons when it comes to Windows vs Linux in terms of web development? (As I'm using mostly web apps these days, switching the OS might be less of a problem. I would need a good replacement for my image editor, though, as I prefer Corel PhotoPaint and PSP4 over Gimp, last time I tried.)

  Installshield 2009 Premier Basic MSI: When I uninstall there is a Message Box saying that explorer has to be closed: [Title] My-Product-Name [List] Explorer [radio button 1, Selected by default] Automatically close applications and attempt to restart them after setup is complete [radio button 2] Do not close applications. (A Reboot will be required) [Ok Button] [Cancel Button] If I click OK [with radio button 1 selected] all opened folders are closed !!! How to get rid of this, I don't want any warning message box to show and not close explorer either? More info: I have a dll which is used to show explorer context menu with icons when we right click on any file/folder. This dll is registered during installation and unregistered during uninstall. When we uninstall WinRAR we don't see any such messages, do we?
