  I want to add a JComboBox in Swing that is simple but I want to assign the values for each items in combo. I have the following code JComboBox jc1= new JComboBox(); jc1.addItem("a"); jc1.addItem("b"); jc1.addItem("c"); Now what I want is that when click on combo box it should return 1, 2 and 3 correspondingly instead of a ,b, c. Is there any way to assign the key values for each items in combo box?

• Extracting user-friendly exception details in Java

  I've got a J2EE web application that I'm working on and when an exception occurs, I'd like to get some basic details about the exception and log it. The message that I'm logging should be pretty basic, something that might mean something to the people running the web server(s). Would using e.getMessage() be the best thing to log? Thanks.

• Java Swing - Adding a row # column (row header) to a JTable

  I have data from a database loaded into a JTable through a custom table model. I want to have a column (should be the first column) which simply shows the display row number (i.e. it is not tied to any data (or sorting) but is simply the row number on the screen starting at 1). These "row headers" should be grayed out like the row headers. Any idea how to do this? Thanks

• Java/Swing: Problem with key listener

  I have a search dialog with a JTextField that's being used as a search box. When the user types something, it searches the DB, shows the result in a JTable and selects the first item in it. If the first result is what they were looking for, I want to let them quickly accept the dialog, by pressing Enter (while the JTextField is focused). So I added a KeyListener to the JTextField and it's working OK. Now the problem: The user opens can open the dialog by pressing Enter when a "Search" button on the dialog's parent frame is focused. The dialog is displayed and the JTextField gets the keyReleased event (from the Enter key that displayed it), so it shows up and closes. If the user holds Enter down, then the JTextField receives the keyPressed, keyTyped and keyReleased events. How can I fix without resorting to ugly workarounds? Platform is Windows 7 x64, btw. It holds an Sqlite connected. Im initiating it in the above MyApp and passing references all the way in to my runnable: class Connection implements Runnable { My question is what will happen if there are two simultaneous read or `write? My thought here was the all methods in the singleton are synchronized and would put all calls in the queue waiting to get a lock on the synchronized method.   What I mean is like servers on video games. You can run an application and it will set up a server on your computer with an IP and a port. For example, how would you make an application where one host application sets up a thing where it has an IP and a port, and another computer that has access to the internet as well can type in the IP and port and it would be able to communicate with the host? I mean simple communication, like sending a boolean or String. And would there be any security problems that would be needed to fix?

  (This is a hypothetical question for discussion, I have no actual problem). Say that I'm making an implementation of SortedSet by extending LinkedHashMap: class LinkedHashSortedMapThing extends LinkedHashMap implements SortedSet { ... } Now programmers who use this class may do LinkedHashMap x = new LinkedHashSortedMapThing(); But what if I consider the extending of LinkedHashMap an implementation detail, and do not want it to be a part of the class' contract? If people use the line above, I can no longer freely change this detail without worrying about breaking existing code. Is there any way to prevent this sort of thing, other than favouring composition over inheritance (which is not always possible due to private/protected members)?

  I've looked all around and decided to make my own library for accessing the EVE API. Requests are sent to a server address such as /account/Characters.xml.aspx. Characters.xml.aspx requires two item be submitted in POST and then it returns an XML file.   Hello there. I've got BMP file's raw pixels table in byte[], it's structure is: (b g r) (b g r) ... (b g r) padding ... (b g r) (b g r) ... (b g r) padding Where r, g, b are byte each, padding is to round row length up to a multiple of 4 bytes. So, how can I create new BufferedImage from this raw data without copying, just using this raw data? I took a look at creating BufferedImage from DataBuffer, but I just didn't get it. Unfortunately ImageIO is not allowed in my situation.

  I'm using a thread that is continuously reading from a queue. I see two options: 1 - Since Thread.stop() is deprecated, I can implement a stopThisThread() method that uses a n atomic check-condition variable. 2 - Send a Death Event object or something like that to the queue. When the thread fetches a death event it exists. I prefer the 1st way, however, I don't know when to call the stopThisThread() method, as something might be on it's way to the queue and the stop signal can arrive first (not desirable). Any suggestions?

  Okay I got this function who prints the name of all files in a directory recursively problem is that it's very slow and it gets the stuff from a network device and with my current code it has to access the device time after time. What I would want is to first load all the files from the directory recursively and then after that go through all files with the regex to filter out all the files I don't want. Unless anyone got a better suggestion.
