  • Kubuntu permanent install won't attach sound card

    I installed Kubuntu Live version and sound card visible in the volume/mixer panel. After installing the permanent version I have a dummy output where my sound card should be, therefore no sound. I re-installed the live version three times and then to permanent but the same problem each time. There is a very brief error on boot up to the permanent version that says: error. cannot attach card default. no such file or directory. I'm running Kubuntu 12.04 on a Mac G4 PPC with no other OS. I'm very new to Linux. I am able to follow instructions to help resolve this, but I'm not familiar with the OS.

  • FTP Folder Permissions / IIS8

    I am having trouble copying information from one folder on an FTP site to another folder. Accessing the FTP site from a windows explorer. I have set Full Control over the parent folder, and I double checked...I have full control over the two folders that is trying to copy information from and to. It actually lets you right click and copy. Then when you try to go to another folder and right-click and paste, the paste option is grayed out. I was able to do it before and no one has changed the IIS permissions. I believe it's a Windows issue. Is it possible that even though the permissions are set to give full control over that directory, that something else is interfering? I did double check the IIS permissions. I am not on a domain, using anonymous access, made sure the access control is set to read/write.

  • Where are the Record Volume Controls in Windows 7?

    Windows XP (and previous versions) had a Record Volume Control panel that could be used to select between music inputs (Stereo Mix, Wav, etc) and a microphone. There doesn't seem to be an equivalent capability in Windows 7 . Is there a third party application that provides this functionality? Note: the Windows XP Record Volume Control was accessed by doubleclicking the Speaker icon in the system try which displayed the (Listen) Volume Control. In the menu there was a "properties" which gave you the option of displaying the RECORD Volume Control instead. I used this capabiliy in Win XP to select the required inputs for an Internet Radio Station and now with Win 7, I can't do it any longer

  • How do I create a Word 2007 form that will tab between text fields, and not within the text field?

    I am trying to create a protected form in MS Word 2007. However, once created it won't tab between the text fields, or from a text field to the next field, it only tabs inside of the text fields. It will tab to the next field for everything else, ie date boxes, list boxes, etc. I have tried using the Rich Text control, the Plain Text control, the Text Form field and the Text Box control and it all does the same thing.

  • Block a Server from reaching a machine

    I have a Windows 2003 server that I want to block from accessing a specific IP address. I want to control this from the Server. because I control the machine. The traffic is http traffic (webservice call). It uses a non-standard port, so IP address+ Port combination would also work. Background: I have a development enviornment that for some reason is ignoring host file enteries under some circumstances. These host files point the enviornment at services in another Dev enviornment. Wne th host files are ignored, dev is talking to production. This is not my question, rather the motivation for this inquiry. I want is a failsafe to ensure dev will error instead of happily engaging in transactions with production. I control the dev server, I do not control the firewalls or the target production machine.

  • System.Reflection and InvokeMember, storing type, assembly, and object in a class

    I have tested code to call a method inside of a compiled DLL, and it works. I created a class to store the object, type, and loaded assembly, but something is lost in translation because it is unable to find the member I wish to invoke. If I create a type, object, and assembly, and properly load everything into these and perform InvokeMember on the type, it works just fine. However, when I use the things inside of my class, it throws a MissingMemberException and does not invoke the member, obviously. What am I doing wrong? The member in question is a subroutine which takes one argument, a string. This is quite frustrating.     The working code sample here synchronizes (single) selection in a TreeView, ListView, and ComboBox via the use of lambda expressions in a dictionary where the Key in the dictionary is a Control, and the Value of each Key is an Action<int. Where I am stuck is that I am getting multiple repetitions of execution of the code that sets the selection in the various controls in a way that's unexpected : it's not recursing : there's no StackOverFlow error happening; but, I would like to figure out why the current strategy for preventing multiple selection of the same controls is not working. Perhaps the real problem here is distinguishing between a selection update triggered by the end-user and a selection update triggered by the code that synchronizes the other controls ? Note: I've been experimenting with using Delegates, and forms of Delegates like Action<T>, to insert executable code in Dictionaries : I "learn best" by posing programming "challenges" to myself, and implementing them, as well as studying, at the same time, the "golden words" of luminaries like Skeet, McDonald, Liberty, Troelsen, Sells, Richter.   • ValidationProperty not returning entered value for textbox in custom ontrol

    I am new at Maven and even newer at Clojure. As an exercise to learn the language, I am writing a spider solitaire player program. I also plan on writing a similar program in Scala to compare the implementations (see my post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2571267/modern-java-alternatives-closed). I have configured a Maven directory structure containing the usual src/main/clojure and src/test/clojure directories. My pom.xml file includes the clojure-maven-plugin. When I run "mvn test", it displays "No tests to run", despite my having test code in the src/test/clojure directory. As I misnaming something?     Hi, We are developing an application which consists of: a source code base given to us by a partner infrequently. This is a somewhat working code, "final" version of something. They have their own release cycle and version tracking. on the code base above we make our changes. These can be either bugfixes or development of new features. Till now, we managed to create some code mayhem, as a result we would like to put all this in a SVN repository. I would like to ask you what you think is the best practice for this to happen with the less pain. The followings are our things that we consider important: We would like to track our bugfixes/changes since we cannot send back bugfixes to our software vendor, but we can report a bug (and they might or might not fix it). All we develop on their code remains "in-house" they are not interested in our changes. As long as we don't get a new codebase from the vendor, we consider their latest version to be the stable one we are working on. This might be branched down further, but the result is always a stable trunk, the build is done based on this "stable" trunk. When the vendor releases a new version we would like to merge our "stable" trunk (which contains a lot of changes) with their changes, thus creating a new "stable" trunk. For each version we deploy (to clients) we should be able later to fix bugs only on that version, for clients who have installed our system using that specific version There are more developers working on the codebase...     I'm trying to determine the current working directory of a process given its PID. The command-line utility lsof does something similar.   • Core data migration failing with "Can't find model for source store" but managedObjectModel for source is present

    I have a cocoa application using core-data, which is now at the 4th version of its managed object model. My managed object model contains abstract entities but so far I have managed to get migration working by creating appropriate mapping models and creating my persistent store using addPersistentStoreWithType:configuration:options:error and with the NSMigratePersistentStoresAutomaticallyOption set to YES. NSDictionary *optionsDictionary = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObject:[NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] forKey:NSMigratePersistentStoresAutomaticallyOption]; NSURL *url = [NSURL fileURLWithPath: [applicationSupportFolder stringByAppendingPathComponent: @"MyApp.xml"]]; NSError *error=nil; [theCoordinator addPersistentStoreWithType:NSXMLStoreType configuration:nil URL:url options:optionsDictionary error:&error] This works fine when I migrate from model version 3 to 4, which is a migration that involves adding attributes to several entities. Now when I try to add a new model version (version 5), the call to addPersistentStoreWithType returns nil and the error remains empty. The migration from 4 to 5 involves adding a single attribute. I am struggling to debug the problem and have checked all the following; The source database is in fact at version 4 and the persistentStoreCoordinator's managed object model is at version 5. The 4-5 mapping model as well as managed object models for versions 4 and 5 are present in the resources folder of my built application. I've tried various model upgrade paths. Strangely I find that upgrading from an early version 3 - 5 works .. but upgrading from 4 - 5 fails. I've tried adding a custom entity migration policy for migration of the entity whose attributes are changing ... in this case I overrode the method beginEntityMapping:manager:error: . Interestingly this method does get called when migration works (ie when I migrate from 3 to 4, or from 3 to 5 ), but it does not get called in the case that fails ( 4 to 5 ). I'm pretty much at a loss as to where to proceed. Any ideas to help debug this problem would be much appreciated.

    I'm scanning a text document for certain installed programs on a computer and looking for an easy way to include a greater or less than variable in the string I'm scanning for. Here is a very ugly and cumbersome example of what I'm using currently and while it works as a temporary fix, isn't practical or sustainable. Essentially I need to scan for "Adobe Flash Player (Any number less than 11) Plugin" , "Adobe Flash Player (Any number less than 11) ActiveX" , "Java (number less than 9) Update (any number)". I'm sure whatever solution is offered can likely be adapted to similar programs I'm likely to encounter later.
