  I'd like to be able to generate a compiled expression to set a property, given the lambda expression that provides the "get" method for a property. Here's what I'm looking for: public Action<int> CreateSetter<T>(Expression<Func<T, int>> getter) { // returns a compiled action using the details of the getter expression tree, or null // if the write property is not defined. } I'm still trying to understand the various types of Expression classes, so if you can point me in the right direction that would be great.

  Hi all! I am trying to define a javascript class with an array property, and its subclass. The problem is that all instances of the subclass somehow "share" the array property: // class Test function Test() { this.array = []; this.number = 0; } Test.prototype.push = function() { this.array.push('hello'); this.number = 100; } // class Test2 : Test function Test2() { } Test2.prototype = new Test(); var a = new Test2(); a.push(); // push 'hello' into a.array var b = new Test2(); alert(b.number); // b.number is 0 - that's OK alert(b.array); // but b.array is containing 'hello' instead of being empty. why? As you can see I don't have this problem with primitive data types... Any suggestions?

• No mapping for LONGVARCHAR in Hibernate 3.2

  I am running Hibernate 3.2.0 with MySQL 5.1. After updating the group_concat_max_len in MySQL (because of a group_concat query that was exceeding the default value), I got the following exception when executing a SQLQuery with a group_concat clause: "No Dialect mapping for JDBC type: -1" -1 is the java.sql.Types value for LONGVARCHAR. Evidently, increasing the group_concat_max_len value causes calls to group_concat to return a LONGVARCHAR value. This appears to be an instance of this bug: http://opensource.atlassian.com/projects/hibernate/browse/HHH-3892 I guess there is a fix for this issue in Hibernate 3.5, but that is still a development version, so I am hesitant to put it into production, and don't know if it would cause issues for other parts of my code base. I could also just use JDBC queries, but then I have to replace every instance of a SQLQuery with a group_concat clause. Any other suggestions?

• Separating MySQL SELECT statement based on data in a column

  Hi everyone, I need to retrieve data (vehicle details, in this case) from a MySQL table tabled and then loop through the results to generate separate lists for each category of vehicle. Is there a simple way to do this without having to have a SELECT statement for each type of vehicle? If I were just doing this for one category, I would use the following: <?php $sql = "SELECT * FROM apparatus WHERE vehicleType = 'Support'; $getSQL = mysql_query($sql); ?> <ul> <?php while ($vehicleData = mysql_fetch_assoc($getSQL)) {?> <li><?php echo $vehicleData['name'];?></li> <?php } ?> </ul> ..etc. Need to do this for four different types of vehicles. If mBuffers is defined as AudioBuffer[1] it is not of variable length and thus mNumberBuffers is implicitly defined as 1. Do I miss something here or is this just nonsense?

  If you designing a webpage you should separate the backend from the frontend. But if you use forms you have to name them. But where should you set this name? e.g. PHP: $fieldName = 'email'; $template->setVar('field_name', $fieldName) ... if(!empty($_POST)) validate($_POST[$fieldName]); Template: <input type="text" name="{$field_name}"> Or just PHP: if(!empty($_POST)) validate($_POST['email']); Template: <input type="text" name="email"> Or should I write a function that can be called from the template an converts an array of field data (name, type, value, id, class, ...) into html code? Is there a best practice where to define fieldnames (types,etc.)? Notice: I used php and smarty like pseudocode (and tags), but its a general question.

• Putting logic in ViewModel get'ers

  What do you think about putting Get-logic in the getters of a ViewModel? Something like: public class DummyViewModel { public int Id { get; set; } private DummyObject myObject; public DummyObject MyObject { get { if (MyObject == null) { DummyRepository repo = new DummyRepository(); myObject = repo.Get(Id); } return myObject; } } } Is this bad practice, or totally fine? I find my controllers getting really bloated by doing all the get-logic there, but I'm really torn as to where I should put it... My reason for doing it this way, is that I can pass the ViewModel to different types of view, and only the neccessary DB-lookup will be performed based on what property is requested.

• Assigning a pointer variable to a const int in C++?

  I'm wondering if anyone can explain the following to me: If I write int i = 0; float* pf = i; I get a compile error (gcc 4.2.1): error: invalid conversion from ‘int’ to ‘float*’ Makes sense - they are obviously two completely different types. But if instead I write const int i = 0; float* pf = i; It compiles without error. Why should the 'const' make a difference on the right hand side of the assignment? Isn't part of the idea of the 'const' keyword to be able to enforce type constraints for constant values? Any explanation I have been able to come up with feels kind of bogus. And none of my explanations also explain the fact that const int i = 1; float* pf = i; fails to compile. Can anyone offer an explanation?

  Hi, Although this seems like something very basic, but no matter what I tried I couldn't get my head around it. Basically I want a html form where a user types in their ID number in an input text box and when they hit the submit button it displays their email address which is their company ID number @ company.com, such as below <form action=""> ID Number: <input type="text" name="idnumber" /><br/> <input type="submit" value="Whats my email address" /> </form> <p>Your email address is 'idnumber'@email.com</p> Can this even be done using html or would I need to use Javascript or PHP for it?   I have some doubt about python's class variables. As my understanding, if I define a class variable, which is declared outside the init() function, this variable will create only once as a static variable in C++. This seems right for some python types, for instance, dict and list type, but for those base type, e.g. int,float, is not the same. For example: class A: dict1={} list1=list() int1=3 def add_stuff(self, k, v): self.dict1[k]=v self.list1.append(k) self.int1=k def print_stuff(self): print self.dict1,self.list1,self.int1 a1 = A() a1.add_stuff(1, 2) a1.print_stuff() a2=A() a2.print_stuff() The output is: {1: 2} [1] 1 {1: 2} [1] 3 I understand the results of dict1 and list1, but why does int1 behavior different?

• Best way to save info in hash

  I have a webpage that the user inputs data into a textarea and then process and display it with some javascript. For example if the user types: _Hello_ *World* it would do something like: <underline>Hello</underline> <b>World</b> Or something like that, the details aren't important. Now the user can "save" the page to make it something like site.com/page#_Hello_%20*World* and share that link with others. My question is: Is this the best way to do this? Is there a limit on a url that I should be worried about? Should I do something like what jsfiddle does? I would prefer not to as the site would work offline if the full text would be in the hash, and as the nature of the site is to be used offline, the user would have to first cache the jsfiddle-like hash before they could use it. What's the best way to do this?

  I have sql statement one; select linkscat.id, linkscat.category from linkscat, contentlinks, links where contentlinks.linksid = links.id and contentlinks.contentid = @contentid and links.linkscatid = linkscat.id order by linkscat.category and sql statement 2 takes a parameter called @linkscat which is 'id' from the statement above; select * from links where linkscatid= @linkscat I'm running into all types of trouble trying to use many sqldatareaders, nested repeaters etc, but it would be great if all the work could be done in the one statement? Is this possible and if so please can you help by posting the final statement? Thanks greatly, any help much appreciated!

• How do I get a Type[] with arguments from a MethodCallExpression?

  I'm reflecting over a class (in a unit test of said class) to make sure its members have all the required attributes. To do so, I've constructed a couple of helpers, that take an Expression as an argument. I do some checks for it, and take slightly different actions depending on what type of Expression it is, but it's basically the same. Now, my problem is that I have several methods with the same name (but different signatures), and the following code throws an AmbiguousMatchException: // TOnType is a type argument for the type where the method is declared // mce is the MethodCallExpression var m = typeof(TOnType).GetMethod(mce.Method.Name); Now, if I could add an array of Type[] with the types of the arguments to this method as a second parameter to .GetMethod(), the problem would be solved. But how do I find this Type[] array that I need? I have cast the Expression<Func<...>> to an Expression, and then to a MethodCallExpression, and in this method the contents of <...> is not known.

  How would I translate this into LINQ? Say I have A parent table (Say, customers), and child (addresses). I want to return all of the Parents who have addresses in California, and just the california address. (but I want to do it in LINQ and get an object graph of Entity objects) Here's the old fashioned way: SELECT c.blah, a.blah FROM Customer c INNER JOIN Address a on c.CustomerId = a.CustomerId where a.State = 'CA' The problem I'm having with LINQ is that i need an object graph of concrete Entity types (and it can't be lazy loaded. Here's what I've tried so far: // this one doesn't filter the addresses -- I get the right customers, but I get all of their addresses, and not just the CA address object. from c in Customer.Include(c = c.Addresses) where c.Addresses.Any(a = a.State == "CA") select c // this one seems to work, but the Addresses collection on Customers is always null from c in Customer.Include(c = c.Addresses) from a in c.Addresses where a.State == "CA" select c; Any ideas?

  I want to rewrite URLs so when a user goes to; http://www.example.com/applications/newWeb/www/index.php?page=48&thiscontent=2660&date=2013-10-11&pubType=0&PublishTime=09:30:00&from=home&tabOption=1 and if the URL contains thiscontent=2660 (which in this example above, it does) I want to redirect them to; http://www.example.come/index.php/publications/finance-and-economics/departmental-resources I have about 30 different thiscontent=XXXX types and imagine I’ll have to copy and edit this rule 30 different times for any links to my old website still knocking around out there. I have access to my httpd.conf file but have never done a mod_rewrite before. I also don't really need these showing up in the error logs as 301s. Will that happen? Because at the moment there are hundreds!

  I have set up a Core Data model that includes an entity, Item with a 1-M relationship with the abstract entity Place, so that an item has many places. There are several entities with the parent set to Place. I want to set up several UI elements depending on the descendent place types. I have a loop that looks something like this: for (Place *place in item.places) { } ... but I'm not sure how to detect what type the place is, and how to cast it to the proper type so that I can access its properties.   I have a code for best fit algorithm. I want to try to use the best fit algorithm using the operator new. Every time I create an object I should give it from the already allocated memory say, 1]20 2]12 3]15 4]6 5]23 respectively. which ever minimum amount fits to the objects size(eg.21) I wanted to do it for different object types, so I need to write the overloaded operator new to be common functionality for all the class objects. Can I do it through friend functions, or is there any possible way to do it.

  We use JUnit 3 at work and there is no ExpectedException annotation. I wanted to add a utility to our code to wrap this: try { someCode(); fail("some error message"); } catch (SomeSpecificExceptionType ex) { } So I tried this: public static class ExpectedExceptionUtility { public static <T extends Exception> void checkForExpectedException(String message, ExpectedExceptionBlock<T> block) { try { block.exceptionThrowingCode(); fail(message); } catch (T ex) { } } } However, Java cannot use generic exception types in a catch block, I think. How can I do something like this, working around the Java limitation? Is there a way to check that the ex variable is of type T?

• Passing parameters among views in a navigation frame INSIDE a custom control

  I created a silverlight 3 application with a navigation frame and 3 views: search, add and edit. I used the app file to pass parameters among the 3 pages, eg: ((App)Application.Current).SNIPSELECTED = currentSnip; Then in the receiving page: currentSnip = ((App)Application.Current).SNIPSELECTED; currentSnip is a SnipItem object: public class SnipItem { public string itemID {get;set;} public string category {get;set;} public string itemDescription {get;set;} public string codeSnip {get;set;} } This worked fine until I decided to make this entire application into a user control and put that inside a second silverlight application with its own navigation frame and app file. The app files are getting confused. The first app file with all my parameter passing is not being read. I know how to pass a simple parameter between views in the first application without the app file (in a query string), but how about these custom types like my currentSnip above?

  Is there an easy way to make Struts 2 action names case insensitive? Currently I have the following action defined: <action name="printTest" class="MyClass" > <result name="error">/WEB-INF/jsp/error.jsp</result> <result name="input">/WEB-INF/jsp/test.jsp</result> <result name="success">/WEB-INF/jsp/test.jsp</result> </action> If the user types URL "/app/printtest.do" instead of "/app/printtest.do" this action is not executed. Other then mod_rewrite on the httpd level or something like that, the only option that I know about right now is simply adding the same exact action and changing the name to "printtest". Ideally it would be a simple config change to struts.xml

  I have a notifications table which contains different types of notifications for different events. Inside the table is a notifications_type:string column that contains the type of notification, i.e. "foo" or "bar" or "oof" I want the user to be able to select what notifications they want to display, so there are checkboxes below the result that correspond to prefs_display_foo:boolean, prefs_display_bar:boolean in the User model. What is an elegant way for me to set the :conditions in the find to properly display the sorted results? Also, currently I have it as a method in the user, but how would I do it as a has_many :notifications, :conditions = .....

• Spring MVC managing multiple views with single controller

  I am trying to implement order management module. There are different order types (approximately about 15). Each order has a seperate view. But the actions performed on UI are same irrespective of order type. Below is the structure of my DTO abstract class Order abstract class SecurityOrder extends Order abstract class TermDepositOrder extends Order ..... ..... ..... I am trying to implement a single controller capable of managing all views. Something similar to the one below: @Controller public class OrderController<F extends Order> { public F validate(F order) { } public F insert(F order) { } } I am not sure how spring mvc would be able to map request parameters properly to the order instance as it doesn't know which order instance to populate. Is it possible to achieve this with single controller or should I go with a controller for each order type and duplicate same code across all controllers?
