  My screen flickers at 1280 x 1024, 75 hertz, 32 bit color, Dell Monitor e190s 19 inch square monitor. This problem only at the above mentioned resolution , it works fine with other resolutions. I just bought this Monitor 2 days back, do you think the Monitor is defective ? Why is this problem occurring , the system says this is the recommended resolution. • Ubuntu 9.1 - Audio coming from both speakers and headphones

  I have an HP Compaq nc8230 that has an annoying little problem with it's audio devices in Ubuntu 9.1. When I have the headphones plugged in, the audio continues to play simultaneously through the speakers no matter what. I'm not sure what kind of sound card this computer has, but in WIndows XP, Vista, 7 and OSx86 I didn't have this problem. I've tried using 3 different headphones and it didn't change anything. Please help.

  Hi, I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on an ASUS eeepc 1000HE, and my wireless card, RaLink RT 2860, is failing to recognize any wireless networks. It was working fine this morning, until I accidentally hit Fn F2, disabling the wireless card. I hit Fn F2 again to reenable it, but it no longer will detect any wireless networks (and other computers in the household do recognize them). Any help at all will be greatly appreciated! I googled quite a bit and talked to a human about this but could not fix it. • route lan traffic through wirless mifi

  I have a Windows 7 laptop accessing the internet through Verizon wireless MIFI configured as 192.168.1.1. It supports only 5 wireless connections, so I don't want to use up connections unnecessarily. That laptop has an ethernet nic which I have given a static IP of 192.168.0.5. Everything else on the 192.168.0.0 network acquires an address via DHCP from a DLink router whose address is 192.168.0.1. Also on that network are a printer, some network cameras, and a linux pc. The linux pc does not have a wireless card (and I don't want to buy one). The linux pc is located at 192.168.0.122. I can ping the linux pc from the windows pc. But I cannot access the internet from the linux pc. I can ping everything on the 192.168.0.0 network EXCEPT the ethernet card in the Windows PC. It seems as though my DLink router will not route requests to the 192.168.0.5 nic on the windows pc. My windows pc has a default route pointing to the 192.168.1.0 network. It also has a route telling it to route all traffic destined for the 192.168.0.0 network through the 192.168.0.5 interface. I have tried adding a default route to the linux pc to "gateway" 192.168.0.5, but that does not work. I have also tried adding a default route to the linux pc to the gateway 192.168.0.1 (the DLink router) but that will not give me internet access either (over the 192.168.1.0 network). I tried these two different routes at different times - I did not set them both at the same time. I suppose this is a simple problem to solve, but I cannot seem to solve it. How can I give internet access over the 192.168.1.1 MIFI to my linux pc on 192.168.0.122? I don't want to use Windows internet connection sharing because I believe it will set up the ethernet nic as a gateway on 192.168.0.1 and a DHCP server. I already have the Dlink performing that role and I don't want to change that if I do not have to. (The Dlink permits me to make DHCP reservations and I really like that feature. I don't want to lose it.)

• internet disconnects

  Internet disconnects and reconnects, computer is in a peer to peer workstation with two other computers XP o/s. Only one computer has this problem the other two don't disconnect. Computer's connect to switch no router is being used. Ipconfig shows a DHCP connection, local area connection status shows packets being sent out but packets are not being received or being received at a extremely slow rate. Tried Winstock tool, reinstalling network card driver, restored to previous date, checked ethernet cable and release/renew IP.

  I read somewhere that you only need an active adapter (usb powered) if you want resolutions greater than 1920x1200. I also heard from someone that you need it when running triple-monitor because more than two displays drains too much power. So to connect a 3rd monitor @ 1920x1200 to my video card's DisplayPort Port, do I need to spend the extra $100 and buy the active adapter?

However, I was under the impression bootcamp provided the most optimal drivers for windows 7 to run on my MBP's hardware. Should I stick with what bootcamp gives for my video driver, or update to the one windows 7 suggests?

• Sun Tool-less Slide Rails Removal for X4150

  I have some tool-less slide rails for some 1ru x4150 sun servers. I can't seem to see how to remove them. Sun in their wisdom did not include this seemingly important information in their documentation; they simply (possibly with a cheeky smile) say to... • MegaCLI always returns blank output

  This server is a Dell R200 running Ubuntu 8.04LTS using a LSI SAS1068E raid card supplied from Dell, I suspect that there might be some kind of RAID issue with the hardware raid built into the motherboard, but I can't seem to get MegaCLi to return any useful output: root@81 $ ./MegaCli -AdpAllInfo -aALL root@81 $ ./MegaCli -PDList -aALL root@81 $ The disks work and AFAIK the raid software is installed correctly. I've seen this issue on RedHat issues also in the past. The RAID was initially setup through the BIOS on this server and appears to be functioning fine apart from this.

  When I run wireshark on a wired network it works fine and reports all of the packets. When I run it on a wireless network though I only see my own traffic. The wireless card I have is supposed to support packet capture and go into premiscous mode, but I don't see any other system traffic. What is wrong?

• fdisk (linux) partitioning raid0

  I'm trying to create partitions for a slackware instalation on my computer (beside Windows 7) just to have a nice distro running mostly for school but when I run fdisk and print the partitiontable I get the following message: Partition x does not end on cylinder boundary. (in my case x = 1, just using x to help googlers). I must say I'm using a raid card (AMCC 3ware 9500S SATA RAID Controller). Maybe this is the problem. How can I fix this without loosing any data?
