  • Changing location in Google Chrome when searching

    I've recently moved to the Czech Republic from Scotland and I can't find a way to permanently stop Google from automatically defaulting back to google.cz all the time. I've checked to ensure that all my google accounts and cookie based settings (e.g. Advanced Search Options) are set to English but it's still clearly doing an IP address lookup and disregarding everything else. The default Search Engine for Google Chrome (and switches to google.cz automatically): {google:baseURL}search?{google:RLZ}{google:acceptedSuggestion}{google:originalQueryForSuggestion}sourceid=chrome&ie={inputEncoding}&q=%s I've tried hardcoding it to: http://www.google.com/search?{google:RLZ}{google:acceptedSuggestion}{google:originalQueryForSuggestion}sourceid=chrome&ie={inputEncoding}&q=%s this kind of works, but won't work for inline searching, i.e. I always have to press enter in order to get any results which is a bit annoying as I've gotten so used to AJAX style searching I can't have been the only one to get this issue? Any help is appreciated

  • Playing games over RDP and utilizing other res of powerfull PC... [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Is it possible to run games over remote desktop? Hey guys, I have the one question..that may be not usual but very interesting.. Well, I have laptop and some powerfull PC, now I want to utilize ALL energy of the powerfull PC on my notebook.. for example, run games like F.E.A.R on powefull PC and next play it over the Remote Desktop on my laptop.. both PC may be connected lan < lan, or thru Wi-Fi, or FireWare, or (?) any other way that does not matter.. Google told me that it won't work over RDP due to protocol lacks and there should be many bump on the road on that way.. but, maybe , you guys will give me the right point ? Let's formalzie.. we'd like to utilize all resources of one PC on another PC via network, how we should do that ? Any ideas?

  • FTP Server upload and filesystem questions

    I'm a photographer who mainly does event photography. A while ago I bought myself a Nikon WT-4 wireless transmitter, a small device which connects via USB to my Nikon D700 DSLR, and then establishes a WiFi connection to an existing WLAN. It can then upload any pictures I take via FTP to an FTP server somewhere in the network. On my laptop I then have a piece of software which will check a given folder on the disk regularly, this software is smart enough to look at the modified file timestamp, if this timestamp is less than 10 seconds ago, it will not attempt to import the folder and skip the file in this iteration of the import scan. The problem I've discovered seems to be inherent to the FTP protocol, as I have the same problem with Windows 7 built in IIS server, as I do with FileZilla FTP server. When the transmitter starts to upload a file, the FTP server will create a small 300-500 KB file with the correct filename on the disk, but then do nothing with the file until it has completely received the file via FTP. So it seems to create this small dummy file, and then buffer the remainder of the FTP upload until it's finished, and then dump the rest of the file into the dummy file making it the correct size. Problem is, these uploads take about 15-30 seconds depending on reception, but since the folder watch tool will already try to import any file older than 10 seconds, it will always try to import the small dummy files which obviously fails as they're not copmlete yet. Is there any way to 'disable' this behaviour? Ideally I would like my file only to show up once it's been completely uploaded. Or perhaps someone knows another FTP server application (it has to run on win7) which does not show this behaviour?

  • Mac always boots with incorrect display gamma (for years now including Lion)

    I think somewhere, something got installed but I have no idea what or how to fix it :( Basically, my old MacBook Pro running 10.5 Leopard had a problem where on boot it would show everything on the screen in a very sort of crunched color space. Everything below 15% white would just be pure black, everything above 85% white would be pure white and all colors look to be a touch more saturated. It's garish. To fix it, I found that I could boot into almost any fullscreen 3D game. When the game launches, the colors would still be off, but when I then quite the game and return the desktop everything is normal again. I've noticed Blizzard games work most reliably for this (World of Warcraft or Starcraft2). This problem has followed me through the years. When I upgraded to an iMac I migrated everything over to it, and the issue now happens on the iMac too. I then got a new MacBook Pro for work and migrated my iMac over to that, and it has the problem too. I had thought that it was an OS bug, but upgrading to 10.6 Snow Leopard didn't fix it and neither did 10.7 Lion. Furthermore I can't find any reference on any forum or help site where anyone else has this problem. If anyone has any idea what processes or settings or apps I should look at to figure out why this is happening I should would appreciate it! It looks sort of irresponsible when I open my laptop in the office to work and then boot up Starcraft 2 full screen...

  • IIS returning plain Forbidden response. No HTTP code

    I'm running a ServiceStack application on IIS. My regular services work fine and have not had any problems with permissions. My new project involves providing generated pdfs. I gave IIS_IUSRS read/write permissions to the Temp directory under my app directory. I also allow non SSL connections to this directory. When I browse to the file which ServiceStack is supposed to automatically serve up (eg. http://ryu.com/Temp/201310171723337631.pdf ) I get this: Forbidden Request.HttpMethod: GET Request.PathInfo: Request.QueryString: Request.RawUrl: /ryu/Temp/201310171723337631.pdf App.IsIntegratedPipeline: True App.WebHostPhysicalPath: C:\inetpub\ryu App.WebHostRootFileNames: [global.asax,global.asax.cs,web.config,bin,temp] Now this doesn't look like a ServiceStack error message, more like IIS, but I'm not certain as to how to get to the bottom of this. Authorization settings are Allow All.

  • Safe to disable compile options for Nginx (when used only as reverse proxy/cache)

    I have read that I can do this to make a smaller footprint Nginx when used as static content cache/reverse proxy: --without-mail_pop3_module --without-mail_imap_module --without-mail_smtp_module What other options are safe to disable? SSI, FastCGI? Others? The only requirements for the reverse proxy is to be able to do https and gzip compression. Will disabling all the module really help with footprint and/or performance?

  • EXECUTE master.dbo.xp_delete_file folder permission issue

    I'm trying to run a Maintenance Cleanup Task to remove .bak files older than 2 days (simple enough). Been trying all variety of .bak, BAK, .*., and editing the path, but the files are still not getting removed even though I receive a "job succeeded" log message. I'm not at the point where I believe it's a folder permission issue. How do I make sure my SA has the proper permissions to remove files from a folder? Thanks.

  • Our clients site is redirecting to a pill scammy site [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: My server's been hacked EMERGENCY We've usually host our clients site, but we aren't hosting this one. The website itself (weddle-funeral.com) works just fine. if you load google and search for weddle funeral stayton oregon - and click that link, the site links to a scammy pill site. I went through the site and there were some php files in the wordpress plugins that got quarantined by my antivirus. I removed ALL non essential files, and uploaded fresh versions of all the plugins, but it's STILL redirecting from google. I tried logging in to the cpanel (on a virtual private server), and the cpanel flashed a red warning screen The site's security certificate is not trusted! You attempted to reach XXXXX.com, but the server presented a certificate issued by an entity that is not trusted by your computer's operating system. This may mean that the server has generated its own security credentials, which Google Chrome cannot rely on for identity information, or an attacker may be trying to intercept your communications. You should not proceed, especially if you have never seen this warning before for this site. (Keep in mind, that's for the HOSTING accounts CPanel) Is there something in the SERVER probably that's causing the redirect?     We had a hard disc crash of one of two hard discs in a software raid with a LVM on top. The server is running Citrix xenserver. On the hard disk which is still intact, the volume group gets detected well, but only one LV is left.   • How can I use sudo when I logged in with a SSH key in PuTTY?

    I know the title probably doesn't even make sense, but anyway. I downloaded PuTTY and set it up, and followed this tutorial to set up SSH keys so I don't have to input a user or password when logging in with SSH. I noticed that when I made a new user I used the --disabled-password parameter, since I wouldn't be needing it... but now when I give the user sudo powers I can't proceed as it asks me for the user's password, and I don't have one. What do I do?

  • How to change the default terminal emulator on Windows (cmd)?

    Is it possible to change the default terminal emulator on Windows (7 and 8 in particular) from cmd to, for example, Console2 or ConEmu? In essence, I want all command line tools, whether launched by double clicking, from "Run" or by other processes to use the custom terminal. This is a trivial matter on Linux, is it even possible on Windows? It would be especially helpful if this could be done via a script.

  • Can't decide on a new distro

    I've had Ubuntu (9.10) on my netbook in the past and I really liked it. I'm currently running Fedora and feeling like I should "change it up" again. I've played around with Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid a little, and so far I'm very impressed. I've always wanted to try Arch, but I'm worried I won't have the driver support I need for all the non-standard hardware in a netbook. Does anybody have a suggestion for a new distro to try? I'm preferably looking for something feature-rich over light-weight, and something that I can have up and running with a minimum of configuration (at least partially working). Thanks!

    I was looking for truecrypt today and found this: http://truecrypt.sourceforge.net/ The page layout changed and claims "truecrypt is unsecure". Futher: "The development of TrueCrypt was ended in 5/2014 after Microsoft terminated support of Windows XP" My Questions: What are the risks for still using truecrypt? Will there be any fork of truecrypt? Is Windows "BitLocker" trustable? Is the reason why the development stopped reliable? Which independent alternatives are there for Linux, MacOS and Windows?

  • visually documenting web server configuration and infrastructure

    I have just finished a large re-organization and update of our institutions web server(s). This server hosts 3 virtual hosts, 3-4 blogs, 2 wikis, some legacy static HTML pages, and many hosted documents (PDF, .jpg, .xls). I have organized the site into a structure of something like: /var/www/sites/vhost1, vhost2, vhost3 .../wordpress/blogX .../mediawiki/wikiX Data is in a seperate directory structure so I can run a cron task over it to make sure it is all writeable and such. I then symlink to these data directories for each application. /var/www/data/vhost1, vhost2, vhost3 .../wordpress/blogX/uploads .../mediawiki/wikiX/images All Apache configs are in /etc/httpd/conf.d/vhosts.d/vhost1,2,3.conf On top of this there is also a testing server which mirrors this setup. Once changes are fully tested, they are rsynced down to the live server. All the wordpress installs and mediawiki installs are straight form SVN and updates are done by switching branches or "svn up". So my question is how can I best document to share with a) co-workers, b) possible future replacement, c) myself 6 months from now. Obviously I can make a wiki page, excel document, whatever and fill it with text, but I am looking for a more visual representation that I can use to explain the architecture to less-technical people. Ideally it would be awesome if this visual representation could then be expanded to get more technical details.

  • Suppressing iTunes Licensing Agreement for Roaming Profiles

    This application is stored locally from our company image we are testing, but our users are using roaming profiles and each time they log in to a different computer or the main computer they work on iTunes keeps asking them to accept the licensing agreement. Is there anyway to keep this agreement from coming up since they are not storing this information in their profile or on the computer locally? All the computers are on Windows 7 and we run a Server 2008 R2 Domain.

  • MSI Arguments for installation

    Does anyone know where to find various arguments for msi's, such as installing/running as administrator, or restart after installation. I am trying to push out an msi update through group policy, but after testing the msi I found out that it needs to be run as administrator to install, and that for it to begin working fully the computer needs to be rebooted.   • Route gaming data over wireless and everything else through LAN?

    I have two internet connections available to me. One is via LAN.. not a great ping, but fast downloads. The other is via USB wireless adapter.. good ping, but slow downloads. I want to connect to both of them simultaneously. I want to be able to specify which data or application will use the wireless connection and route everything else through the lan connection. Is this possible, and how would I do it? Windows 7 x64 is my operating system.   • Static DHCP binding

    Good time of day, SF people. I have created a manual DHCP binding entry on a Cisco router so that a client would always get leased to it. The clients wants to get the same address on both of his dual-boot linux systems. He tries to get an IP address leased and he succeeds on one of the dual-boot operating systems. When he reboots to another one he gets a lease for a completely different one. I don't get it. The MAC addresses are the same (we checked in ifconfig, so what could be happening here? Why is the router confused? Or is it something else? Also, how can I check DHCP server IP address who I have got an IP address from (on Linux)? Configuration on Cisco: ip dhcp pool MANUAL_BINDING0001 host 192.168.0.64 255.255.255.0 hardware-address dead.beef.1337 dns-server 192.168.8.11 default-router 192.168.0.254 domain-name verynicedomainigothere.cn PS.
