  • Should I be running VM's(Virtual Box) for development on the same hdd as my os or a external usb (2.0) HDD or usb (2.0) flash drive

    I have a mac book pro (7200 rpm / 8GB ram) and I like the idea of virtualized development environments as I like to experiment with different technologies and don't like to have environmental cross contamination. I would like to know for the vm's I run (rarely 2 at time..almost always 1 vm at a time) should the virtual hdd be on my laptops native hdd or some external form (usb hdd, usb flash, or since i have mac express card based sad ?). I don't mind maxing out my ram to 16GB if thats a better option to have in the mix. Thank you

Is my approach to using the azure sdk service bus correct? Any help would be appreciated.

  • win xp client, win 7 host, only xp drivers

    I have a win 7 64 bit box which has xp on it in a vmware module and also the win7 version. I can use my old usb wifi card under virtual xp as i have the wifi drivers, but apparently the manufacturing company never made any further drivers, nor did it release the source code. Is it possible to get networking between the client and the host, so that my host can browse etc? I thought the microsoft loopback adapter might be the answer but ever example i can find of it's use describes a setup where the host is connected fine and needs to route data to the client as well.

  • Can IIS (Ideally Azure) do SSL Proxying?

    My team has been asked to add a new feature to a project we're working on, and none of can find authoritative details on whether it's possible with Windows/IIS. The short of it is that we're hoping to have customers update their DNS with a CNAME record to point their website to our server instead of theirs (they why's are trivial - it's what the app does on behalf of your site). We're using a reverse proxy with several custom modules to serve particular content from the original servers. So far everything works perfectly until we encounter SSL. Is there a way to have IIS serve up an SSL certificate from another server? In other words, is there a way to be a trusted man in the middle? I'm hoping that's possible so that we don't have to require all our clients to re-issue their SSL certs. Frankly, we don't want to have to manage hundreds of certs. I'd also like to avoid a UCC situation if there's a way to because it seems to require re-creating the cert each time a client is added. So, any pointers on proxying/hosting SSL (or even dynamic SSL hosting like http://www.globalsign.com/cloud/) would be appreciated.

  • Virtual Box state not saving upon restart/reset/shutdown - reverting to an earlier state

    Every time I restart/shut down my VM in VirtualBox (image is Ubuntu 10.02), whenever I start it back up, it reverts to the state it was in after I installed Guest Additions. This is extremely frustrating as every time I make progress on a project, whenever it restarts (mostly from crashing), I have to redo mostly everything. Is this a known problem with Guest Additions or with Virtual Box in general, and if so is there some solution?

  • VMWare ESXi virtual machine can contact the gateway but not the DNS server

    I am having a bit of a strange issue. I have a VMWare ESXi server with two virtual machines running on it. They are running just fine and can communicate on the network without a problem. I am now trying to add a third. I am installing Ubuntu 8.04 Server. I assign it a static IP address and it's a fresh installation. Once installed I can ping the gateway but I cannot ping the DNS server. It's on the same network with the other two VMs which are communicating just fine. I have tried to reinstall the operating system but it still fails to connect. Here is /etc/network/interfaces auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.23 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.1.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 gateway 192.168.1.1 dns-nameservers 208.67.222.222 #opendns dns-search mydomain.com Here is route Destination | Gateway | Genmask | Flags | Metric | Ref | Use | Iface localnet | * | 255.255.255.0 | U | 0 | 0 | 0 | eth0 default | 192.168.1.1 | 0.0.0.0 | UG | 100 | 0 | 0 | eth0 Since I'm running this behind a FortiGate this is what the sniff command gives me when I try to ping 208.67.222.222 arp who-has 192.168.1.1 tell 192.168.1.23 arp reply 192.168.1.1 is-at MAC 192.168.1.23 -> 208.67.222.222: icmp: echo request 192.168.1.23 -> 208.67.222.222: icmp: echo request 192.168.1.23 -> 208.67.222.222: icmp: echo request 192.168.1.23 -> 208.67.222.222: icmp: echo request 192.168.1.23 -> 208.67.222.222: icmp: echo request As you can see it looks like I never get a response. One interesting thing I notice is the arp reply's MAC doesn't look right. I have cleared the FortiGate's ARP cache though and checked the entry and it seems correct. The MAC it lists is the one for the router. However if I ping from a different virtual machine that is also Ubuntu 8.04 with a nearly identical configuration I get this. 192.168.1.22 -> 208.67.222.222: icmp: echo request 208.67.222.222 -> 192.168.1.22: icmp: echo reply 192.168.1.22 -> 208.67.222.222: icmp: echo request 208.67.222.222 -> 192.168.1.22: icmp: echo reply 192.168.1.22 -> 208.67.222.222: icmp: echo request 208.67.222.222 -> 192.168.1.22: icmp: echo reply So, what could I be missing? I need to know how to set this so that the VM auto logs in with the domain account credentials used to log into the physical computer. Google hasn't helped me find the answer.

    I am having trouble using my guest (Windows XP SP3) to communicate over TCP/IP to the host computer (Windows 7) using Virtual PC 2007. I have WAMPServer running on my host, and want to be able to access the websites on there from my guest OS. What do I do to make this work? What is the IP address of the host computer when using Shared Networking? As far as I can tell "Internal Networking" won't work, because that only allows communication between the guests, not between a guest and the host.

  • Exporting a VM running as a Domain Controller

    There is a Microsoft KB article that talks about best practices for running a DC on a VM. One of the notes is "Do not use the Export feature on a virtual machine that is running a domain controller". In order to export a VM, the VM needs to be turned off. If you turn off a DC VM, export it, import it on another server and then power the VM back on, there should be no risk as long as the original (exported) VM is never powered back on. Can someone explain to me why this isn't supported? After doing some searching on Google, the sites I found just regurgitated this line from the KB article, but didn't offer any explanation as to why this isn't supported.

I added the following to /etc/apache2/httpd.conf NameVirtualHost *:80 <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot "/var/www/square/public" ServerName square.localhost </VirtualHost> And restarted the apache. I go to http://square.localhost/ and it gives an error telling server not found. Could anyone tell me how to define virtual host settings on Ubuntu please? Thanks in advance.

    Has anyone run across any good benchmarks or other research on tuning the ZFS recordsize when putting virtual disk files on it for a guest OS? I'm using VirtualBox at the moment. I have notice significant performance improvement when working with a DBMS by setting the ZFS recordsize to the same as the DB blocksize, so I'm guessing matching the blocksize of the guest filesystem would also be a good idea.

    i am trying to link my ADFS to Office 365 in order to set up Single Sign On for Office 365. I am going over this blog post. at Step 5, i am supposed to run Powershell commands so i can connect the ADFS to Office 365. Set-MsolAdfscontext -Computer <AD FS server FQDN> Convert-MsolDomainToFederated -DomainName <domain name> i am unable to determine the FQDN for the ADFS server. i searched around a lot on the web, but was not able to locate the solution. i am just getting started with all configuration of ADFS and Office 365, but was not able to find out a solution. any answers?
