  • IE 8 specifying background-color changes element behavior

    I have an absolutely positioned div on which I am trying to trigger mouseenter and mouseleave events. In IE8/7 with the background-color of the div left unspecified (so that it defaults to transparent), the mouseenter/leave events are not firing when the cursor crosses the div's boundary, only somewhere in the middle of the div and when the cursor is over any text within the div. When I attempt to debug the problem by adding a background color to the div (e.g. background-color: green), the problem magically goes away. The div's box model is honored perfectly and mouseenter/leave fire as when expected. It's only when the div's background color is left unspecified (or even explicitly set to transparent) that it doesn't behave correctly. Any ideas? Googling for this IE bug/quirk is coming up with nothing.

    Please see attached screenshot The background is a bit off in both IE and chrome (although it was working before? hence the exact numbers??), although in ffox it looked allright..     When the user saves some data, I want to spin off a background thread to update my indexes and do some other random stuff. Even if there is an error in this indexing the user can't do anything about it, so there is no point in forcing the main thread to wait until the background thread finishes. I'm doing this from a ASP.NET process, so I think I should be able to do this (as the main thread exiting won't kill the process). When I set a breakpoint in the background thread's method though, the main thread also appears to stop. Is this just an artifact of visual studio's debugger, or is the main thread really not going to return until the background thread stops?

    I have before my closing body tag here i have the usual $(function() { function test(){ alert("test"); } }); in my html i have input tags I get an error of that test is undefined. I am trying to make IE7 call function onchange I had a whole solution working but since IE7 does not like .change() i am going to put onchange attributes within the inputs but now i have this issue. Any idea how I can solve this?

    I'm trying to add an image as a full-page background in word. I've tried page layout -> page color -> fill effect -> picture which looks fine in the preview (though when I try to zoom in or out it no longer looks the same), but when printing it tiled the image instead of just showing it once. I've tried insert -> picture and then setting it to "behind text" and settings its location to (0,0), but then when trying to change the image size the "relative" option is greyed out, so I can't set it to 100% of page size: I guess I can set it manually to the page size, but is there another, simpler way to just set a single image as a background?

    I need to change background color of CkEditor, on some basic jQuery methods, like ready, change, etc. Tried with things like: $(document).on('click','.change-task-status', function(e){ $(".cke_editable").css("background-color", 'red'); }) ... but nothing happens. Can you help me how to achieve this? Thank you in advance! PS. yes, I do have jQuery adapter loaded on page.     Hi all, I am having an issue positioning a background image using the following jquery background position command in Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari. The code works correctly in IE 8. $('#element).css({ backgroundPosition: 'xpx ypx' }); The x position of the image is calculated dynamically based on window size and the y position is static. The css appears to be modified correctly, however, the background image I am attempting to overlay is absent.     Im using following CSS to set a background-image for my menu #menuContainer { background:url('../images/main-bg.png') repeat-x; } My CSS is inside ~/styles/site.css and my image is inside ~/images/main-bg.png The problem is this works perfectly in Chrome but it's not working in Firefox. But if change the URL to #menuContainer { background:url('images/main-bg.png') repeat-x; } It starts working in Firefox and in Chrome it doesn't work. Can anyone please help?

  • Desktop Properties Background selection problems

    From the Desktop of my XP Home Edn SP3 system, under the Right-Click Menu Properties, the [Desktop] tab, of the 'Display Properties' window shows a selection list for the Desktop's Background image. For me this list has become frozen and its slider (at right) will not move. The [Browse] button and the 'Position' dropdown list (whether the selected image is centred, stretched, etc) are also greyed out. I can still use both the Color dropdown list at the right of the Background list and the [Customize Desktop] button below it, and make any changes as desired. What's gone wrong. I'm guessing maybe a registery setting or I've deleted a file somewhere, but haven't found the cause as yet. Any suggestions?? Thanks.
