• Making a query result equal to zero when a condition is null

  Hello, I believe the query below should work. However, when I run it, the results are blank. I think this is happening since for now, the table "comment" is empty. So there is no instance where s.submissionid = c.submissionid. I would like to have the query below to work even if there if no s.submissionid that equals a c.submissionid. In this case, I would like countComments to equal zero. How can I do this?   Im trying to run test suite that will handle the jquery light-box. Light box contains a text-area and a submit button. Before Light box appears both of these fields are hidden. But selenium framework not understanding the visibility of these element in Light box. It just shows following error. • How to query JDO persistent objects in unowned relationship model?

  Hello, I'm trying to migrate my app from PHP and RDBMS (MySQL) to Google App Engine and have a hard time figuring out data model and relationships in JDO. In my current app I use a lot of JOIN queries like: SELECT users.name, comments.comment FROM users, comments WHERE users.user_id = comments.user_id AND users.email = '[email protected]' As I understand, JOIN queries are not supported in this way so the only(?) way to store data is using unowned relationships and "foreign" keys. There is a documentation regarding that, but no useful examples. • Complex SQL query, one to many relationship

  Hey SO, I have a query such that I need to get A specific dog All comments relating to that dog The user who posted each comment All links to images of the dog the user who posted each link I've tried a several things, and can't figure out quite how to work it. Here's what I have (condensed so you don't have to wade through it all): SELECT s.dog_id, s.name, c.comment, c.date_added AS comment_date_added, u.username AS comment_username, u.user_id AS comment_user_id, l.link AS link, l.date_added AS link_date_added, u2.username AS link_username, u2.user_id AS link_user_id FROM dogs AS d LEFT JOIN comments AS c ON c.dog_id = d.dog_id LEFT JOIN users AS u ON c.user_id = u.user_id LEFT JOIN links AS l ON l.dog_id = d.dog_id LEFT JOIN users AS u2 ON l.user_id = u2.user_id WHERE d.dog_id = '1' It's sorta close to working, but it'll only return me the first comment, and the first link all as one big array with all the info i requested. The are multiple comments and links per dog, so I need it to give me all the comments and all the links. Ideally it'd return an object with dog_id, name, comments(an array of the comments), links(an array of the links) and then comments would have a bunch of comments, date_added, username, and user_id and links would have a bunch of links with link, date_added, username and user_id. It's got to work even if there are no links or comments. I learned the basics of mySQL somewhat recently, but this is pretty far over my head. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks!

This is my first article!", comments: [{content: "It sucks"}, {content: "Best article ever!"}] }], without_protection: true) However rake db:seed gives me the following error message: rake aborted! Comment(#28467560) expected, got Hash(#13868840) Tasks: TOP => db:seed (See full trace by running task with --trace) It is possible to seed the database like this? If yes a follow-up question: I've searched some and it seems that to do this kind of (nested?) mass assignment I need to add 'accepts_nested_attributes_for' for the attributes I want to assign. (Possibly something like 'accepts_nested_attributes_for :article' for the Comment model) Is there a way to allow this similar to the 'without_protection: true'? Because I only want to accept this kind of mass assignment when seeding the database.

• Is there a way to validates_presence_of only one time? (to skip that validation once the user's been

  So, I'd like for a user to see an error message if he submits a comment and the :name is blank (typical error message, don't need help with that). However, I'd then like to allow the user to skip that validation once he's been notified that "we like all comments to have a name." So, he submits the comment once, sees the notification, then can submit the form again unchanged if he really doesn't want to add a name, and the validates_presences_of :name is skipped. But, I'm not sure how to go about doing this. I thought about checking to see where the request is coming from, but after a create, errors are handed off to the "new" action, which is the same as actual "new" comments. I then thought about checking to see if flash[errors] were present, but that won't work because there are other validations a comment has to pass. Finally, I thought about trying a validates_presences_of :name, :unless = :notified but wasn't sure how to define notified. I honestly hate asking such an open ended question, but wasn't sure where to get started. So, is there a way to just check a certain validation once?

• PhpBB3: adding background to specific php generated text input without affecting the other text inputs

  I have created a custom PhpBB3 style and desperately since a few hours tried to add a background image to a specific comment text area. With firebug I checked if the comment text area had a class and it does, so I tried some css variations and finally tried: sn-inputComment { background: url("{T_THEME_PATH}/images/pencil.png") repeat-x left top #FFFFFF;} { I also tried to find and manipulate the php generated text area but no success. Non of my methods worked. I will provide you all with a tinylink url to my forum with a test user and password access.   Hi all, I wnat to update an XML document in my xml database (Marklogic). I have xml as input and want to replace each node that exists in the target xml. If a node does not exist it would be great if it gets added, but thats maybe another task. • Is it rude to add "TODO: wtf?" in source code?

  I encountered something ... well, you know TDWTF... something like that in an international project I'm working on. The code was written by a team mate. For a second I was tempted to add // TODO: wtf? to the infringing code but restrained myself. The project is indeed on a professional level, but for internal conversation, more colloquial language is used - but still no "bad" words as in "wtf". Usually, I'd surely not add such a comment, but I believe there are a few factors that allow consideration still: 1. It is not visible except as a comment in the source code (of course). 2. It is internal to our team - other developers may happen see it but it is not their code. 3. Comments in source code are usually accepted to be more colloquial, since it is "kept between us developers". Would you totally advise to never add such a comment? Or do you regard it as an edge case? Did you possibly add something similar yourself?

• MySql "comments" parameter as descriptor?

  So, I'm trying to learn a lot at once, and this place is really helpful! I'm making a little running log website for myself and maybe a few other people, and I have it so that the user can add workouts for each day. With each workout, I have a variety of information the user can fill out for the workout, such as running distance, time, quality of run, course, etc... I store this in a MySql database as a table with fields titled "distance", "time", "runquality", etc... Now, these field titles don't match up with what I want displayed on the running log, so I was thinking of using the "Comments" attribute for a field to store its human-readable title--thus the field "runquality" would have "Quality of run" as its comment, and then I would pull the comment with a SQL query and display it instead of the field name. Is this a good theoretical/practical way of going about it? And what sort of SQL would I use to pull the comment for the field anyway? Secondly, suppose I want to add the ability for the user to create their own workout descriptors. So say a user wants to add a "temperature" descriptor for their workout. Should I create a script that adds fields to my workout table, or should I create a separate table listing only workout descriptors and somehow link the descriptor table with the "contents" table? I haven't learned any theory about database design or anything so any help is appreciated!

• Draw a comparison between an integer in a specific row and a count

  This is a follow-up question to this one: Check for specific integer in a row WHERE user = $name I want a user to be able to comment on my site for exactly five times a day. After this five times, the user has to wait 24 hours. In order to accomplish that I raise a counter in my MYSQL database, right next to the user. So where the name of the user is, there is where the counter gets raised. When it reaches 5 it should stop counting and reset after 24 hours. In order to check the time I use a timestamp. I check if the timestamp is older than 24 hours. If that is the case, the counter gets reseted (-5) and the user can comment again. • Can I access views when drawn in the drawRect method?

  When creating the content view of a tableViewCell, I used the drawInRect:withFont, drawAtPoint... and others, inside drawRect: since all I needed was to lay some text. Turns out, part of the text drawn need to be clickable URLs. So I decided to create a UIWebView and insert it into my drawRect. Everything seems to be laid out fine, the problem is that interaction with the UIWebView is not happening. I tried enabling the interaction, did not work. I want to know, since with drawRect: I am drawing to the current graphics context, there is anything I can do to have my subviews interact with the user? here is some of my code I use inside the UITableViewCell class. -(void) drawRect:(CGRect)rect{ NSString *comment = @"something"; [comment drawAtPoint:point forWidth:195 withFont:someFont lineBreakMode:UILineBreakModeMiddleTruncation]; NSString *anotherCommentWithURL = @"this comment has a URL http://twtr.us"; UIWebView *webView = [[UIWebView alloc] initWithFrame:someFrame]; webView.delegate = self; webView.text = anotherCommentWithURL; [self addSubView:webView]; [webView release]; } As I said, the view draws fine, but there is no interaction with the webView from the outside. the URL gets embedded into HTML and should be clickable. • How do I grep for entire, possibly wrapped, lines of code?

  When searching code for strings, I constantly run into the problem that I get meaningless, context-less results. For example, if a function call is split across 3 lines, and I search for the name of a parameter, I get the parameter on a line by itself and not the name of the function. For example, in a file containing ... someFunctionCall ("test", MY_CONSTANT, (some *really) - long / expression); grepping for MY_CONSTANT would return a line that looked like this: MY_CONSTANT, Likewise, in a comment block: ///////////////////////////////////////// // FIXMESOON, do..while is the wrong choice here, because // it makes the wrong thing happen ///////////////////////////////////////// Grepping for FIXMESOON gives the very frustrating answer: // FIXMESOON, do..while is the wrong choice here, because When there are thousands of hits, single line results are a little meaningless. What I would like to do is have grep be aware of the start and stop points of source code lines, something as simple as having it consider ";" as the line separator would be a good start. Bonus points if you can make it return the entire comment block if the hit is inside a comment. I know you can't do this with grep alone. I also am aware of the option to have grep return a certain number of lines of content. Any suggestions on how to accomplish under Linux? FYI my preferred languages are C and Perl. I'm sure I could write something, but I know that somebody must have already done this. Thanks!

• What are some commonly used source code check-in policies?

  I'm curious what code review policies other development shops apply to their source code when it's checked into the source control repository. I'm setting up a TFS (Team Foundation) server, and I'd like to apply some check-in policies to start to stamp out bad practices. For example, I was thinking of starting with the following couple, so this is the kind of stuff I'm looking for: Prohibit empty "Catch" blocks. This would prevent applications from swallowing any exceptions without at least requiring a comment explaining why it's not necessary to do anything with the exception. Prohibit "Catch ex as Exception" generic exception handling. Instead, require code to catch specific types of exceptions and deal with them appropriately, instead of just building catch-all handling. Require a check-in comment. This one should be self-explanatory, though it seems that TFS (and most other source-control systems) don't require a comment by default. While these are just examples, they're where I'm thinking of starting, and while I'd like some additional examples of what's popular, I'm open to feedback on these. Also, though we're a mostly .NET shop, I imagine the popular policies are universal across languages and IDEs (we have some Java development and a few people who will use the repository develop with Eclipse).

• Location of Embedly (JQuery-Preview) Results

  Embedly/Jquery-Preview has been fantastic. However, I'm trying to change the location of the preview result, and having trouble. Right now, the result appears right below the input field...but I'd rather have it in a separate part of the page. Is there a way to do this? I've tried changing the location of the selector and loading divs, but that hasn't helped. It seems to ignore those divs and put it right below the submit button. • Is there a search engine that indexes source code of a web-page?

  I need to search the web for sites that are in our industry that use the same Adwords management company, to ensure that the said company is not violating our contract, as they have been accused of doing. They use a tracking code in the template of every page which has a certain domain in the URL, and I'm wondering if it's possible "Google" the source code using some bot that crawls the code rather than the content? For example, I bought an unlimited license for an image gallery, and I was asked to type the license number in a comment just before the script. I thought it was just so a human could look at the source and find out if someone paid, but it turned out that it was actually that they had a crawler looking for their source code and that comment. If it ran across the code on your site, it would look for the comment, and if it found one, it would check to see if it was an existing one. If not, it would first notify you of your noncompliance, and then notify the owner of the script. Edit: I'm looking to index HTML and JavaScript only, not the server-side languages or Java.

• What is wrong with this Fortran '77 snippet?

  I've been tasked with maintaing some legacy fortran code, and I'm having trouble getting it to compile with gfortran. I've written a fair amount of Fortran 95, but this is my first experience with Fortran 77. This snippet of code is the problematic one: CHARACTER*22 IFILE, OFILE IFILE='TEST.IN' OFILE='TEST.OUT' OPEN(5,FILE=IFILE,STATUS='NEW') OPEN(6,FILE=OFILE,STATUS='NEW') common/pabcde/nfghi When I compile with gfortran file.FOR, all lines starting with the common statement are errors (e.g. Error: Unexpected COMMON statement at (1) for each following line until it hits the 25 error limit). I compiled with -Wall -pedantic, but fixing the warnings did not fix this problem. The crazy thing is that if I comment out all 4 lines starting with IF='TEST.IN', the program compiles and works as expected, but I must comment out all of them. Leaving any of them uncommented gives me the same errors starting with the common statement. If I comment out the common statement, I get the same errors, just starting on the following line. I am on OS X Leopard (not Snow Leopard) using gfortran. I've used this very system with gfortran extensively to write Fortran 95 programs, so in theory the compiler itself is sane. What the hell is going on with this code?

• Processing XML comments in order using SAX & Cyberneko

  I'm using cyberneko to clean and process html documents. I need to be able to process all the comments that occur in the original html documents. I've configured the cyberneko sax parser to process comments like so: parser.setProperty("http://xml.org/sax/properties/lexical-handler", consumer); ...using the same consumer as I am for DOM events. I get a callback for each of the comments: @Override public void comment(char[] arg0, int arg1, int arg2) throws SAXException { System.out.println("COMMENT::: "+new String(arg0, arg1, arg2)); } The problem I have is that all the comments are processed first, out of context of the DOM. i.e. I get a callback for all the comments before the document head, body etc.... What I'd like is for the comment callbacks to occur in the order they occur in the DOM. Edit: what I'm actually trying to do is parse the instructions for IE in the original html, such as: <!--[if lte IE 6]><body class="news ie"><![endif]--> At the moment they are all dropped, I need to include them in the cleaned HTML document.

  I want to add additional criteria to the LEFT OUTER JOIN generated by the :include option in ActiveRecord finder. class Post has_many :comments end class Comment belongs_to :post has_many :comment_votes end class CommentVote belongs_to :comment end Now lets say I want to find last 10 posts with their associated comments and the up comment votes. Post.find.all(:limit => 10, :order => "created_at DESC", :include => [{:comments => :comment_votes]) I cant add the condition to check for up votes as it will ignore the posts without the up votes. So the condition has to go the ON clause of the JOIN generated for the comment_votes. I am wishing for a syntax such as: Post.find.all(:limit => 10, :order => "created_at DESC", :include => [{:comments => [:comment_votes, :on => "comment_votes.vote > 0"]) Have you faced such problems before? Did you managed to solve the problem using the current finder? I hope to hear some interesting ideas from the community. PS: I can write a join SQL to get the expected result and stitch the results together. I want to make sure there is no other alternative before going down that path.

• Visual SourceSafe (VSS): "Access to file (filename) denied" error

  Hi, can anybody help with the above SourceSafe error? I've spent hours trying to find a fix. I've also Googled the heck out of it but couldn't find a scenario matching mine, because in my case only a few files (not all) are affected. Here's what I found: only a few files in my project generate this error other files in the same directory (for example, App_Code has one of the problem files) work fine I've tried checking out from both the VSS client and Visual Studio another developer can check out the main problem file without any problems This sounds like a permission issue for my user, right? However: I found the location of one of the problem files in VSS's data directory (using VSS's naming format, as in 'fddaaaaa.a') and checked its permissions; everything looks fine and its permissions match those of other files I can check out successfully I can see no differences in the file properties between working and non-working files What else can I check? Has anyone encountered this problem before and found a solution? Thanks. P.S.: SourceGear, svn or git are not options, unfortunately. P.P.S.: Tried unsuccessfully to add tag "sourcesafe." EDIT: Hey Paddy, I tried to click 'add comment' to respond to your comment, but I'm getting a javascript error when loading this page in IE8 ("jquery undefined," etc.) so this isn't working. This is when checking out files, and yes, I've obliterated my local copy more times than I can remember. ;) EDIT 2: Thanks for the responses, guys (again I can't 'add comment' due to jQuery not loading, maybe blocked as discussed in Meta). If the problem was caused by antivirus or a bad disk, would other users still be able to check out the file(s)? That's the case here, which makes me think it's a permission issue specific to my account. However I've looked at the permissions and they match both other users' settings and settings on other files which I can check out.

• cellForRowAtIndexPath not called for all sections

  I have a UITableView that has five sections. Just as the title describes cellForRowAtIndexPath is only being called for the first four. All connections have been made concerning the datasource and delegate. Also, my numberOfSectionsInTableView clearly returns 5. Printing out the number of sections from within cellForRowAtIndexPath shows the correct number, thus confirming that cellForRowAtIndexPath is simply not being called for all sections. What on earth is going on? I looked pretty hard for an answer to this question but could't find one. If this has already been answered please forgive me and point me in the correct direction.
