• Why USA produces the best / most popular software? [closed]

  Have you noticed that a disproportionate amount of popular software products comes from the USA ? Examples: iOS, OS X, Phosothop, Oracle, Windows, Final Cut Pro, MS Office, iTunes, iWorks Suite, iLife Suite, AutoCad, Aperture, Google search engine, Twitter and endless stream of software that are the best in their fields and that are the models the rest of the industry want to emulate. Few people would deny that the most popular software comes from American companies. Obviously there's plenty of good software coming from outside the US, like Linux or SAP but most great looking, killer software comes from USA. Maybe these companies outsource the code elsewhere but the inception and design is mostly done in the USA. Why is that? and, can it be replicated elsewhere given the correct "ingredients" ?

• Cloud INaaS from Data Integration companies

  Traditional integration IT vendors are also starting to offer INaaS. Infomatica has been the most aggressive integration vendor when it comes to offering INaaS. Informatica has offered INaaS for over five years and continues to add capabilities, has a number of high profile references, and also continues to add out-of-the-box cloud integration with major COTS and SaaS providers. The Informatica Marketplace contains pre-packaged Informatica Cloud end-points and plug-ins. One such MarketPlace solution, is integration with Oracle E-Business Suite using Informatica integration. The Informatica E-Business Suite INaaS offering includes automatic loading and extraction of data between Salesforce CRM and on-premise systems, cloud-to-cloud, flat files, and relational database. The entire Informatica Cloud integration solution runs in an Informatica managed facility (PaaS). When running in a PaaS environment, Informatica offers an option to keep an exact copy of your cloud-based data on-premise for archival, compliance, and enterprise reporting requirements.

• EPM Architecture: Foundation

  This post is the first of a series that is going to describe the EPM System architecture per component. During the following weeks a couple of follow up posts will describe each component. If applicable, the component will have its standard port next to its name in brackets. EPM Foundation is Java based and consists of two web applications, Shared Services and Workspace. Both applications are accessed by browser through Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) or Internet Information Services (IIS). Communication to the backend database is done by JDBC. The file system to store Lifecycle Management (LCM) artifacts can be either local or remote (e.g. NFS, network share). For authentication purposes, the EPM Product Suite can connect to external directories or databases. Interaction with other EPM Suite components like product specific Lifecycle Management connectors or Reporting and Analysis Web happens through HTTP protocol.   Hi, everyone: It's been a little over two weeks since the end of Oracle Open World 2012, and hope everyone has recovered sufficiently.  We have seen a tremendous amount of coverage on Oracle ADF Mobile during this Oracle Open World.  For starters, ADF Mobile demo booth was positioned in the Oracle Red Lounge in Moscone North, where all new and innovative technologies are being demonstrated.  The booth is liternally out front and the first booth in the area, and we had a lot of interested attendees talking to us.  It feels like ADF Mobile has finally arrived on the big stage. I also want to thank my fellow ADF Mobile and Fusion Middleware team members - from product managers, engineers, and product marketing, everyone worked extremely hard to make this Open World a great success for ADF Mobile. I really enjoyed meeting everyone at Oracle Open World, at the booth, sessions, etc.   Now it's on to release ADF Mobile - for real! (AHMSI) is a 3,000 employee company based in Coppell, Texas and provides services to homeowners and loan investors. With a multibillion portfolio under management, AHMSI is one of the country's largest servicers of Alt-A and subprime loans. AHMSI implemented a public-facing secure Web portal using Oracle WebCenter Suite to help investors make informed decisions more quickly and automated much of the investor approval process AHMSI reduced the time needed to process loan modification from approximately 30 days to one week.  UsingOracle WebCenter Content AHMSI can now share strategic & sensitive content in compliance with the various governance regulations.  Company OverviewAmerican Home Mortgage Servicing Inc. provides services to homeowners and loan investors. Whether a borrower holds a traditional, Alt-A, payment option, or subprime loan, the company's highly trained experts are committed to providing high levels of service as they work to address each customer's needs. AHMSI also carefully manages the loan portfolios of investors. With a multibillion portfolio under management, AHMSI is one of the country's largest servicers of Alt-A and subprime loans.  Challenges AHMSI’s biggest challenge was to improve security by minimizing the use of e-mail and FTP sites to share sensitive mortgage loan data with third parties, including estate investors.  Solutions AHMSI implemented Oracle WebCenter Suite to deploy a public-facing Web portal, enabling authorized external users to view content stored on the content server and Oracle WebCenter Content  to create a secure storage area for daily, weekly, and monthly reports. They leveraged the standard group spaces in Oracle WebCenter Portal to enable business users to collaborate more effectively.  Results By automating much of the investor approval process, they reduced the time needed to process loan modifications from approximately 30 days to one week and greatly minimized the use of e-mail and FTP sites to share information. • 50 Billion Served: Java Embedded on Devices

  It doesn't matter if it is 50 billion or 24 billion, just suffice it to stay that there will be MANY connected devices in the year 2020. With just 24 billion devices, they will outnumber humans six to one! So as a developer, you don't want to ignore this opportunity. What if you could use your Java skills and deploy an app to a fraction of these devices (don't be greedy, how about just, say, 118,000 of them)? Fareed Suliman, Java ME Product Manager had lots of good news for Java Developers in his presentation Modernizing the Explosion of Advanced Microcontrollers with Embedded Java at ARM TechCon in Santa Clara, CA last week. "A radical architecture shift is underway in this space, from proprietary to standards-based," he explained.  He pointed out several advantages to using Embedded Java for devices: Java is a proven and open standard. Java provides connectivity, encryption, location, and web services APIs. You don't have to focus on and keep reinventing the plumbing below the JVM. Abstracting the software from the hardware allows you to repeat your app across many devices. Abstracting the software from the hardware allows allows parallel development so you can get your app done more quickly. You already know Java (or you can hire lots of Java talent). Java is a full ecosystem, with Java Embedded plugins for IDEs like Eclipse and NetBeans. Java ME allows for in-field software upgrades. Suliman mentioned two ways developers can start using Java Embedded today:  Java ME Embedded Suite 7.0 Oracle Java Embedded Suite is a new packaged solution from Oracle (including Java DB, GlassFish for Embedded Suite, Jersey Web Services Framework, and Oracle Java SE Embedded 7 platform), created to provide value added services for collecting, managing, and transmitting data to embedded devices such as gateways and concentrators. Oracle Java ME Embedded 3.2 Oracle Java ME Embedded 3.2 is designed and optimized to meet the unique requirements of small embedded, low power devices such as micro-controllers and other resource-constrained hardware without screens or user interfaces. All PAs in Release 11.1.1.7.0 run on the latest Oracle BPM Suite and SOA Suite, 11.1.1.7. New PAs include: Financial Reports Approval (FRA): end-to-end solution for efficient and controlled Financial Report review and approval process, enabling financial analysts and decision makers to collaborate around Excel. Electronic Forms Management (EFM): supports the process to design and expose eForms with the ability to quickly design eForms and associate approval processes to them, and to then enable users to select, fill, and submit eForms for approval Mobile Data Offloading (MDO): enables telecommunications providers to reduce congestion on cellular networks and lower cost of operations by using Oracle Event Processing (OEP) and BAM to switch devices from cellular networks to Wi-Fi. • Critical Patch Update for October 2012 Now Available

  The Critical Patch Update (CPU) for October 2012 was released on July 16, 2012. Oracle strongly recommends applying the patches as soon as possible. The Critical Patch Update Advisory is the starting point for relevant information. It includes a list of products affected, pointers to obtain the patches, a summary of the security vulnerabilities, and links to other important documents. Supported products that are not listed in the "Supported Products and Components Affected" Section of the advisory do not require new patches to be applied. Also, it is essential to review the Critical Patch Update supporting documentation referenced in the Advisory before applying patches, as this is where you can find important pertinent information.
