• Perl - What is Larry?

  I was reading some Perl book and I find meant-to-be funny mentions to something named Larry. Some times it is mixed in a religious context (like "Larry multiplied the code and distributed among coders"). Since I'm not stupid, I tried to think a bit and I believe I finally got it... It's about Larry the cow from Gentoo right?. And the religious context is because cows are normally associated to religion. Anyway, why the references? There is something about camels and cows together that I'm not following?

Funny thing, it worked on another SharePoint Server but not on the one i am working on now, so i know my code is fine, it must be something ells on the SharePoint Server maybe? • WPF Binding XAML vs C#

  Hello, I've got a strange problem - binding created through XAML (both ways by markup extension or normal) isn't working(BindingOperations.IsDataBound returns false and in fact there is no Binding object created). When I do literally the same from code everything is working perfectly. One more thing is that the Binding in XAML is created in a DataTemplate - what's funny about that when I use the DataTemplate for the first time it fails, then I fix it from code (add binding to specific objects) and while adding more objects to the collection the binding set in XAML just works. If I try to remove all the objects from the collection and then add a new one the binding fails once again. In reality this is a shortened version of another of my questions. • Classes missing if application runs for a long time

  I have a funny problem - if my application runs for a long time ( 20h), then sometimes I get NoClassDefFound error - seems like JVM decided that the class is not going to be used anyway and GCd it. To be a bit more specific, here's an example case: object ErrorHandler extends PartialFunction[Throwable,Unit] { def isDefinedAt(t: Throwable) = true def apply(e: Throwable) =e match { // ... handle errors } } // somewhere else in the code... try { // ... long running code, can take more than 20 hours to complete } catch (ErrorHandler) And I get the following exception: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/rogach/avalanche/ErrorHandler$ If that try/catch block runs for smaller amounts of time, everything works as expected. If anyone is interested, here is the codebase in question: Avalanche I need to note that I saw this and similar problems only on Cent OS 5 machines, using JRE 6u26 and Scala 2.9.1 / 2.9.2. What could be the cause of this problem?

  Just like many things in rails, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't... Showing app/views/admin/products/_variant.html.erb where line #8 raised: undefined local variable or method `variant_counter' for #<ActionView::Base:0x107f7ae10> I only want to display variant_counter from partial _variant. This was the render caller code: <%= render :partial => '/admin/products/variant', :collection => product.variants %> The funny thing is, I have been using partial counter heaps number of times, somehow now I encountered this issue. Could anybody point me out what are there to find out what may went wrong?

  Just updated albacore to version 0.14 and ran into a major problem. My current environment is: Ruby 1.9.1 Rake 0.8.7 Albacore 0.1.4 The problem is that as of now all my rake build throw a funny little exception: undefined method 'push' for #<Enumerator:0x???????> So far I have traced the problem to albacore msbuild.rb line 38 and 26. To be honest I just don't have a clue why this is happening. But is it a good solution? Is there a better one?

We have a .NET stack product, and the one piece that we step out of the stack is for load-balancing. We need something with configurable rules for distribution -- perhaps subdomain-driven -- that NLB alone doesn't seem to offer. If it integrates directly with .NET, or offers an exposed API callable by webservices, so much the better! Thanks in advance! Clarification: we need to logically part over boxes. This is not just a cluster/failover/replication scenario.

• PCAP Web Service Usage Logging for Dummies

  I've been assigned the task (for work) of working with PCAP for the first time in my life. I've read through the tutorials and have hacked together a real simple capture program which, it turns out, isn't that hard. However, making use of the data is more difficult. My goal is to log incomming and outgoing web service requests. Are there libraries (C or C++) that stitch together the packets from PCAP that would make reporting on this simple? Baring that is there something short of reading all of the RFC's from soup to nuts that will allow me to have an "ah-ha!" moment (all of the tutorials seem to stop at the raw packet level which isn't useful for me)? It looks like PERL has a library that may do this and I may eventually attempt a reverse engineer from PERL. NOTE BENE: Web Server logs aren't acceptable here as I will be intercepting on a routing device. If I had access to those I'd be done and happy...I don't.

  Say i create one object and add it to my ArrayList. If I then create another object with exactly the same constructor input, will the contain() method evaluate the two objects to be the same? Assume the constructor doesn't do anything funny with the input, and the variables stored in both objects are identical. • Unable to access global variable defined in settings.php [Drupal]

  I am developing a website using Drupal 6.16. I want to define a variable in settings.php like $ge_path = 'some/path/here'; And I want to use it inside my modules. function mymodule_block(....) { global $ge_path; $fullPath = $ge_path . '/another/path'; doSomething($fullPath); } But I am getting NULL as the value of $ge_path. Why am I not able to access the global variable defines in settings.php? How can I get the proper value inside my module functions? The funny thing is, I am able to access $db_url['default'] and $db_url['mydatabase'] etc.. which are defined just two lines above $ge_path in settings.php!

  Ciao a tutti, nella Rails app che sto realizzando, l'utente ha la possibilita' di inserire un post (campo memo) con all'interno una URL. Ad esempio: "bla bla bla bla www.blabla.com bla bla bla ..." Nel mostrare tale post vorrei che www.blabla.com diventasse un link cliccabile (come avviene in twitter). Ovviamente deve essere fatto un parsing della url, immagino usando le espressioni regolari.   I am looking to do the following Disallow text selection inside of an input element Do not show the cursor carrot inside of an input i cannot simply blur the input on click, focus must remain in the input. There is probably a way to do this in just IE, i would of course rather have a cross browser solution but ill settle for IE (or FF) only solution. • What do the square brackets in LaTeX logs mean?

  I'm currently working on a parser that reads complete LaTeX logs. Most of the log format is, though weird, easy to figure out, but these square brackets are puzzling me. Here's an example from near the end of one of my logs: Overfull \hbox (10.88788pt too wide) in paragraph at lines 40--40 []$[]$ [] [102]) [103] Kapitel 14. (./Thermo-141-GrenzenFundamentalpostulat.tex [104 ]) (./Thermo-142-Mastergleichung.tex [105]) (./Thermo-143-HTheorem.tex [106pdfTeX warning (ext4): destination with the same identifier (name{equation.14.3.3}) ha s been already used, duplicate ignored Can anybody give me a hint what these square brackets mean? I can't see any structure in them. I have the suspicion that lines 2/3 above are some kind of ASCII art representing the box layout, though I know too less about badboxes to justify this or identify the meaning of the single characters. Then, the "[104" etc. seem to correspond to the page numbers, but I am still not seeing the reason why there is sometimes something inbetween the square brackets (like the pdfTeX warning above), and sometimes not.

• Handling Datetime with decimal '2010-02-14 20:18:58.313000000'

  In SQL Server I have some textual data in varchar fields I am trying to convert to datetime's. The funny thing is this data at some point was in a datetime field, exported to flat file, and now I am reimporting it. The problem is it is in this format 2010-02-14 20:18:58.313000000 and the conversion to datetime fails. I have no idea how it ended up like this when it was originally extracted from a datetime column. Basically a table was exported to a flat file by someone else. The original table was lost. I am reimporting back from the flatfile. I could just drop the decimal but this would be like throwing out some of the data. I'd like to maintain as much precision as possible. How can I import this data from the varchar column back into a datetime column and preserve as much accuracy as possible?

My code is: class LuaState { boost::shared_ptr<lua_State> L; LuaState(): L( luaL_newstate(), LuaState::CustomDeleter ) { } } The problem is lua_State is incomplete type and shared_ptr constructor requires complete type. And I need safe pointer sharing. (Funny thing boost docs say most functions do not require complete type, but constructor requires, so there is no way of using it. http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_42_0/libs/smart_ptr/smart_ptr.htm) Can can I solve this? • How can I set up jnlp for use with Sinatra?

  I have a website currently running Sinatra and a bunch of other technologies. I wanted to get progress bars running, but that's been a no go. So, a friend of mine whipped up a quick upload in Java, and I'm running that through scponly (chrooted) to make sure they can't do anything funny with changing directories and suchlike. But how can I start the jnlp file from Sinatra? Is it as simply as making it a link and then letting it be downloaded by the user? This code suggests otherwise, but there are a lot of things in there I don't understand (probably because I'm not reading it in the context of the larger program there).
