    Consider the following two elements: <button type="submit" class="button">Test</button> <a href="#" class="button">Test 2</a> ...which use the following style definition: .button { background-color: yellow; color: white; border: 1px solid orange; display: inline-block; font-size: 24pt; padding: 2px 16px; text-decoration: none; } This produces two buttons beside each other with an equal height in Chrome. However, Firefox renders the button on the left with a height 1px greater than the button on the right (the <a>): (I've enlarged the image above by 2x.) What do I need to do to get the two buttons to have the same height? It seems like the font-size is causing the problem - but I need that attribute. Fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/FfRPY/

  • What is the best practise for relational database tables in mysql?

    Hi, I know, there is a lot of info on mysql out there. But I was not really able to find an answer to this specific and actually simple question: Let's say I have two tables: USERS (with many fields, e.g. name, street, email, etc.) and GROUPS (also with many fields) The relation is (I guess?) 1:n, that is ONE user can be a member of MANY groups. What I dis, is create another table, named USERS_GROUPS_REL. This table has only two fields: us_id (unique key of table USERS) and gr_id (unique key of table GROUPS) In PHP I do a query with join. Is this "best practice" or is there a better way? Thankful for any hint!

  • SQL Server 2008. Allow Remote Connections?

    I have SQL Server 2000 and 2008 installed on a Windows XP Pro box. I can connect to both db instances locally. From another box, a Windows 7 box, I can connect to the SQL 2000 instance on the first box but I cannot connect to the 2008 instance using the same SQL Server authentication credentials that worked locally. Allow Remote Connections is set to TRUE for both the 2000 and 2008 database instances. What else can I look for to be able to connect to the remote 2008 instance from the Windows 7 box? I am trying to connect using Mgt Studio 2008.

    Is there a built in equivalent to the .NET framework's DateAdd or AddMonths functions? I'm looking for the easiest, cleanest way to add X month to a Javascript date. I'd rather not handle the rolloing over of the year as done here. or have to write my own function as done here. Is there something built in that is as nice as the .NET Date.AddMonths function? Or something close?

  • Should we hire someone who writes C in Perl?

    One of my colleagues recently interviewed some candidates for a job and one said they had very good Perl experience. Since my colleague didn't know Perl, he asked me for a critique of some code written (off-site) by that potential hire, so I had a look and told him my concerns (the main one was that it originally had no comments and it's not like we gave them enough time). However, the code works so I'm loathe to say no-go without some more input. Another concern is that this code basically looks exactly how I'd code it in C. It's been a while since I did Perl (and I didn't do a lot, I'm more a Python bod for quick scripts) but I seem to recall that it was a much more expressive language than what this guy used. I'm looking for input from real Perl coders, and suggestions for how it could be improved (and why a Perl coder should know that method of improvement). You can also wax lyrical about whether people who write one language in a totally different language should (or shouldn't be hired). I'm interested in your arguments but this question is primarily for a critique of the code.     Hi, How does one handle ties when ranking results in a mysql query? I've simplified the table names and columns in this example, but it should illustrate my problem: SET @rank=0; SELECT student_names.students, @rank := @rank +1 AS rank, scores.grades FROM student_names LEFT JOIN scores ON student_names.students = scores.students ORDER BY scores.grades DESC So imagine the the above query produces: Students Rank Grades Al 1 90 Amy 2 90 George 3 78 Bob 4 73 Mary 5 NULL William 6 NULL Even though Al and Amy have the same grade, one is ranked higher than the other. Amy got ripped-off. How can I make it so that Amy and Al have the same ranking, so that they both have a rank of 1. Also, William and Mary didn't take the test. They bagged class and were smoking in the boy's room. They should be tied for last place. The correct ranking should be: Students Rank Grades Al 1 90 Amy 1 90 George 3 78 Bob 4 73 Mary 5 NULL William 5 NULL If anyone has any advice, please let me know. Thank you! -Laxmidi

Below is my attempt which given the XML above, sets Document to the 'subnode1' element rather than the 'Document' element.     Hello, To short version of this question is that I want to accomplish something along the lines of what's visible on Flickr's homepage once you're logged in. It shows the three latest photos of each of your friends sorted by date but grouped by friend. Here's a longer explanation: For example I have 3 friends: John, George and Andrea. The list I want to extract should look like this: George Photo - 2010-05-18 Photo - 2010-05-18 Photo - 2010-05-12 John Photo - 2010-05-17 Photo - 2010-05-14 Photo - 2010-05-12 Andrea Photo - 2010-05-15 Photo - 2010-05-15 Photo - 2010-05-15 Friend with most recent photo uploaded is on top but his or her 2 next files follow. I'd like to do this from MySQL, and for the time being I got here: SELECT photos.user_id, photos.id, photos.date_uploaded FROM photos WHERE photos.user_id IN (SELECT user2_id FROM user_relations WHERE user1_id = 8) ORDER BY date_uploaded DESC Where user1_id = 8 is the currently logged in user and user2_id are the ids of friends. This query indeed returns the latest files uploaded by the contacts of the user with id = 8 sorted by date. However I'd like to accomplish the grouping and limiting mentioned above.     I can not understand how scoping works in Javascript. E.g. <html> <head> <script>var userName = "George"; </script> </head> <body> ...... <script> document.write('Name = ' + userName); </script> </body> </html> The variable userName is declared in another "section" of a script. As I understand it the browser renders html and executes code in the order it finds it. So how does userName in the second script tag gets resolved? Does it go to a global setting? Anything I declare earlier is global? I noticed the same happens if I do something like: <html> <head> <script> do { var userName = "George"; //bla } while (someCondition); </script> </head> <body> ...... <script> document.write('Name = ' + userName); </script> </body> </html> Even when userName is declared inside {} it is still resolved in the second script. How is that possible?
