• Issues using gmail with google apps and external domain

  I have recently tried to use gmail through google apps as my main email client, but I'm experiencing a few different problems. I am managing the domain (conjunktiondesign.co.uk) through 123reg.co.uk but it is hosted through fasthosts.co.uk. I transfered the domain to 123reg as fasthosts did not allow me to change the MX records myself. I followed the setup instructions step by step on google apps and changed the MX records as they told me to. My email was now working perfectly but my website was down and I was getting the following error: The dnsserver returned: No DNS records I have a friend that is using the same system as me (ie. Externally hosted domain and google apps mail) and I changed my 123reg details to the same that he had (as his was working perfectly - both email and website). I changed my name servers to point to fasthosts, rather than 123reg and I added an A record called '@' pointing to fasthosts IP address. I also created another A record called 'www' pointing to fasthosts IP address. After I did this, my website worked almost immediately but I have only realised that since changing it my email is now down. I have not received anything since Saturday. I am a web designer and would consider myself fairly tech savvy, but I have no idea about A records, CNAME's and all the things I have been messing about with! What I ultimately need is someone to help me get my email and website working at the same time, rather than one being down when the other is OK. I seem only able to get one or the other working. I have now changed the name servers back to 123reg in an attempt to get my email back as it is more important than my website at this stage. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

I've tried clearing cache on firefox and it didn't help, so I'm thinking there's something wrong with the way HAProxy parses through the Firefox request headers.

• Port Forwarding on Actiontec GT704-WG Router Issues

  I am trying to setup a server at customer's location that has the Actiontec GT704-WG DSL router. The port forwarding it not working at all. Here's the details: Server: OpenSuse Linux box with a static IP address of 192.168.1.200 Application running accepting connections on port 8060 Firewall disabled Local connections (within the network) working properly Router: Updated to latest firmware available DHCP range set to 192.168.1.69-192.168.1.199 to not have any conflicts with the server Firewall set to "off" Rule set in the "Applications" setting to forward 8060 TCP and UDP to 192.168.1.200 machine (I've tried using the "TCP,UDP" option as well as both individual options) I've also tried just simply putting the server in the DMZ to see if I could connect to anything, but still nothing. Looking for any clues before I call and waste hours explaining the issue to tech support.

• WordPress 3.5 Multisite and nginx siteurl issues

  I'm setting up multisite on localhost in subdirectories. The problem is that when I'm trying to access the dashboard of a site I just created ( localhost/wptest/site/wp-admin ) I get "This webpage has a redirect loop" and when I try to access the actual website ( localhost/wptest/site ) the page loads but without assets, such as css. When I access the network dashboard, or the primary site dashboard on localhost/wptest everything is just fine. Also when I edit the permalink of the second site in the network dashboard, to be like this: localhost/site it also runs fine. How to make it work with the default permalink structure localhost/wptest/site? • apache server mapping to tomcat issues

  I am working on the flex application. Back end is spring/Hibernate. The application is working fine in my local XP system. When i am trying to deploy in the server i'm facing the issue. The issue is how to map the java in apache when i am by passing the apache & works in tomcat my application is working good. But not in the apache.. This can be fixed by mapping the java in apache. • CentOS Live CD Creation issues

  I am creating my customized CentOS 6.3 Live CD. I am following information given at https://projects.centos.org/trac/livecd/wiki/GetToolset My "livecd-creator" command completes successfully and an ISO image is created. But when I try to boot up my system with this ISO, it goes up to the CentOS blue screen and then the CAPS lock and Scroll Lock LEDs on the keyboard starts flashing. Then from here after, the system takes no input from keyboard and I have to power cycle it and it does the same thing. Could you get me any suggestion why this is causing and possible workaround. • Demoted domain controller and now IIS has permissions issues

  I have a machine that was a domain controller and everything else, includin an IIS site. I built new 2 new domain controllers and transferred the FSMO roles and waited a day and then demoted the original domain controller. Now the IIS site says : HTTP Error 401.2 - Unauthorized You are not authorized to view this page due to invalid authentication headers. I have a call in with the web app vendor, but maybe someone can guess what I need to fix now. I haven't looked at IIS since this was installed and am pretty lost. I thought about restoring the machine from a backup, but I think that would be an Active Directory disaster, right? The server is Windows 2008 (not R2). The new DCs are 2008 R2

• Windows ACL inheritance issues for FTP server and automated tools

  I have set up Cerberus FTP server. By default, Cerberus FTP service runs under SYSTEM ACCOUNT. Also I have some console applications which run as scheduled tasks. They are running under a dedicated "Utilities" user account which has "Log on as batch job" permissions. These console applications take uploaded FTP files, process them and then move them to some dedicated archive folder. The problem is that my console apps are throwing Security exceptions when trying to acces the uploaded files. I tried to give the Full control permissions on the ftproot folder for my "Utilities" account and I have checked that "Replace all Child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" checkbox, but it affects only current files. When new files are uploaded, they again are not accessible by my "Utilities" account. I tried to go another way and put Cerberus FTP service under "Utilities" account. Then I also needed to give "Utilities" account permissions on Cerberus Data folder in ProgramData. Still no luck - after this operation, Cerberus internal SOAP web service stopped working (although everything else seems to work). I need that SOAP service to be available, so running the Cerberus FTP under "Utilities" account seems to be not an option. Unless I find out, what else do I need to set up for that "Utilities" account to stop Cerberus from complaining. I guess, Cerberus is uploading files to some temporary folder and so those files get the permissions form that folder and keep the same permissions even after moved to the ftproot. What would be the right solution for this which would grant Cerberus FTP server and the "Utilities" account minimal needed permissions to access the contents of the ftproot folder?

• Issues connecting to WPA2 with User Authentication Mavericks?

  I was on all the builds of the Mavericks beta and connecting to my University's network was fine. Then I upgraded to the public release and now I can't seem to connect to the internet. I can connect to other networks, but not my schools. Its a WPA2 network with a User Authentication. And my MacBook is a 2011? 2.2 GHz first gen i7 Quad Core with 8 GBs of RAM. Does anyone else have the same issue? Any tips on how to fix it? Thanks! heinst

• Radeon HD4850 serious issues when using DirectX 10

  Hello, I have a problem with my video card. Whenever I run a DirectX 10 game, it works for a few seconds (10 or so) and then starts displaying nothing but big polygons. I have tested this with Crysis and Resident Evil 5, both have the same problems. The same games running under DirectX 9 work fine, except for some small black squares once in a while. I have the following specs: Asus P7P55D LE Intel Core i5 750 Sapphire Radeon HD4850 1GB 2x2GB Patriot Viper II Sector 5, DDR3 1600 MHz OCZ Stealth X Stream 500SXS 500W At first I thought it could be the video card overheating (it has stock cooling), but the game crashes even when it's running at 50 degrees C, and it's never been higher than 70. I also thought it could be the PSU, but as far as I know 500W is enough for this computer, especially because I haven't overclocked anything. My OS is Windows 7 X64 and I am using Catalyst 10.10, but I have also tried many older versions with no success. I don't think there is a problem with the card itself, or else it wouldn't run DirectX 9 games I believe. I have spent many hours searching for a solution but I couldn't, so any help is appreciated. Thank you. EDIT: I did some further investigation about the problem, and it seems taspeotis was right, it might be related to memory. I slightly underclocked the memory from 993 to 965 MHz and the problem went away completely. Both the black squares using DirectX 9 and the weird polygons using DirectX 10. I was using RE DirectX 10 Benchmark, as it consistently crashed around the same point, and now I can play the full benchmark with no artifacts at all. Unfortunately, the underclock has an obvious hit in performance. Although it's not critical, it's definitely noticeable. So, if the video memory test software showed no erros, but the card needs an underclock to work, what might be the problem? Temperature? Voltage? By the way, I couldn't find what the default voltage for this card is. And what is a good software to try and increase it? I tried Ati Tray Tools but it has a bug that increases the clock speed dramatically whenever I change something in the Overclock tab, so I'm afraid it might fry my card. Worst case scenario, if I don't find I solution I will try to slightly increase the GPU clock to compensate for the memory clock. Thank you again.

• Server memory issues, and expected level of service from hosting company

  I'm involved in maintaining an Ubuntu VPS which runs our django websites (nginx/apache/mod_wsgi) and we've been having some memory spikes which have either caused the database to die, or induced kernel panic when the memory management system can't find any killable processes. I'm working on fixing the memory spikes, but I'm wondering whether there's anything I can do to better deal with the problem if it occurs again. Are there any tools I could use to detect the memory spikes and then, say, kill the offending process and email the server admin to fix it up? Killing off one website so that the server can remain operational is certainly preferable to the whole thing falling over. Also, we were charged $600 for after-hours service because we had to get the hosting company to restart the server - is this standard practice among hosting companies? Another provider I work with provides a panel with which I can stop and start the server myself, and given that a restart was all that was needed, $600 seems mightily excessive. (That's NZD, it's around $445 USD)

• ATI Radeon HD 5970 Display numbering issues

  I have 2 computers on which i have ATI Radeon HD 5970 graphics card installed. There is 1 VGA out and 1 DVI out in it. When I connect my VGA out to a monitor on my 1st computer, it shows it as display 1 and when I connect my DVI out to a monitor it show it as display 2 (I am using extended display). When I do the same thing on my 2nd computer it shows just the opposite. The VGA out shows as display 2 and the DVI out shows as display 1. Is it a problem with the drivers or the hardware? (because the graphics card on both is exactly the same)

• issues with Nginx + Passenger Production setup - Loading time/request time delay

  having a bit of an issue relating to request time. I have NGINX as a proxy server for a ruby on rails app running passenger. I also have a postgresql database server which is running on its own VM separate from my nginx/application server. My issue is that when I try and access my products page which does a lot of database queries, my query takes maybe 3-4 seconds. The second I flood the web server with requests, i will choke out the web server and have requests take almost 20-30 seconds to process. The rails server and database server do not crash, and the usage is not that high. Each server has more than enough memory, even cpu usage on the rails server isn't more than 85%, albeit thats high but its not maxing it out. Is my problem related to my nginx proxy server? I dont really know how to fully explain this so if you have a question please ask it and I can clarify what I mean. • Performance issues with new dedicated server [closed]

  I have just subscribed to a new dedicated server and am getting worst than expected PHP execution performance. Execution times are twice as high as on my old mutualized server! I'm definitely not an expert at server management, so I'm wondering what I missed. • AC/battery laptop issues(not a simple charging fix)

  Is it possible to run a laptop off the battery while the AC is plugged in? I can play games no problem while just the battery is plugged in, but obviously that means I have to let it charge after every hour or so. But, when I plug it in to charge, it can't handle any video games anymore. I thought it was the brick in the power cord going out, but I just bought a new one and it still doesn't work. The specs are actually better than the old cord. I think the problem is an over heating problem in the AC outlet, but if it charges the battery while I play, it would work just fine running solely off the battery.

• Issues with Apache redirect to www-prefixed URL

  I have a website with domain mysite.com. I would like to have it so that if a user types in "mysite.com" it will redirect to "www.mysite.com". Additionally, "mysite.com/subdir" will also redirect to "www.mysite.com/subdir". I've looked and made changes with vhosts and also rewrites, but it's not working for the "mysite.com/subdir"-"www.mysite.com/subdir" case. Every time I type in "mysite.com/subdir", it will redirect to "www.mysite.com". Only "www.mysite.com/subdir" works. Not sure how to troubleshoot this. I turned on rewrite logs and didn't see anything obvious, yet. This is my config files so far. Please let me know what I'm missing. Thanks! • Permissions issues with mounting remote server into a specific folder

  I'm doing the following to mount a remote server to a specific path on my server: sshfs [email protected]:/backup/folder/ /home/myuser/server-backups/ However when I mount the server the folder permissions change (they become 700), and when I test my rsnapshot.conf file I get the following error: snapshot_root /home/myuser/server-backups/ - snapshot_root exists \ but is not readable What am I doing wrong ? should I mount the remote server with another user ?

• Hyper-V shutdown/start up host causing issues in VMs

  I have a single physical host, running 2008 R2 with Hyper-V, all fully updated. On that host I am running 3 clients, a DC, a web server and a SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1. All are running on Windows Server 2008 R2, again all fully patched. Generally all is fine, but sometimes and not repeatably, when I shutdown the host properly, which suspends the Clients, when it all comes up again, SQL Server is no longer running and the IIS App Pool I am running the website in needs to be told which account to run in again! Any ideas!?

  I've installed libevent on my server in the directory root/data/ and have i'm about to install memcached with ./configure –with-lib-event=/data/; make; make install However, after running a bit I get this error saying i'm pointing to the wrong directory for libevent. checking for libevent directory... configure: error: libevent is required. You can get it from http://www.monkey.org/~provos/libevent/ If it's already installed, specify its path using --with-libevent=/dir/ make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. • Network connectivity issues with Windows Store

  I have my Windows 8 Pro build 9200 installed on my Dell laptop. I want to install some new apps and updates from the Store but there might be some network problem that caused the downloading gauge showing up but not really running at all. I followed some instructions that switched from local user to my Microsoft account, but this "Please wait" screen keeps showing and I don't really know why. I still have internet access and can use some apps like People, Mail, etc. with my account logged in, I can surf the net using Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer. I did another test using cmd with ping -t google.com and it showed that my laptop has internet access. Anybody knows a solution to make the Store working properly? Or is there any workaround to switch to the Microsoft account instead of a local user account?

  I'm using pdftotext to make an ASCII version of a PDF document (made with LaTeX), because collaborators prefer a simple document in MS word. The plain text version I see looks good, but upon closer inspection the f character seems to be frequently mis-converted depending on what characters follow. For example, fi and fl often seem to become one special character, which I will try to paste here: ? and ?. What is the best way to clean up the output of pdftotext? I am thinking sed might be the right tool, but am not sure how to detect these special characters.

  I am trying to follow the tutorial here to setup the user and pass. It says there that "this section is only applicable if your MySQL server is running with --skip-show-database". First question is, how do I check if MySQl server is running with --skip-show-database? Is there any way I can access phpMyAdmin SQL query window without logging in? Otherwise I'd have to execute this SQL from command line. I am also getting this: Cannot load mcrypt extension. Please check your PHP configuration. I have added mcrypt.so to php.ini and doing the following command proves that I have it.
