  • How to change password on RAR archive w/o modifying arch. files attributes (modified/created)?

    How do I change the password of an .RAR archive, without changing the date/time attributes of the files in the archive? Unfortunately you can't directly change the password of the archive with WinRAR, you have to extract the files, and then make a new archive with the new password. So the created/modified attributes of the files in the archive get changed. I know you can manually change the attributes of a file with available utilities - but there are hundreds of files in the archive, each with unique attributes, so it would take a very long time to "fix" each file before re-archiving it. I'm using WinRAR 3.51, the last free version. Windows XP Pro SP3. Update: I don't care if the output is a .RAR file or a ZIP file IZArc4.1 will convert the RAR to a ZIP, and it keeps the dates. The problem is it compresses the file - there isn't a "store" option, and setting the default to store in the main configuration doesn't effect conversions. The RAR contains uncompressed files. None of these other archiving programs will even do a conversion. A couple claim to, or try to, but the errors returned indicate a very lousy application. So far I've tried PeaZip, 7-Zip, FilZip, TugZip, SimplyZipSE, QuickZip, and WinShrink (from downloads.cnet.com). WinRAR gives the error "skipping encryped archive" when I try the conversion. It asks for the password first, and I know it's right, as I opened the archive, and I can read/view all the files in it. It works on non-encrypted files.

  • Add Mirror for volumes other than the last one in Windows 7 (disk "not up-to-date")

    I'm using Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. I have an existing 4TB disk with 3 NTFS volumes, a new 3TB blank disk, and I'm trying to mirror the volumes onto the new disk. My Windows install is on an SSD which is Disk 0. The 4TB disk with volumes is Disk 1, and the new blank disk is Disk 2. I can add a mirror successfully for the last volume, but when I try to add a mirror for the first volume I immediately get errors (see below). Is there something I special I need to do to add a mirror for a volume other than the last one? More info: I opened Disk Management, right-clicked on the first volume on the existing disk, went to Add Mirror, and selected the new disk. The first time I did this I was prompted to convert the new disk to a Dynamic Disk, which I approved. Subsequently I got a message: The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console view is not up-to-date. Refresh the view by using the refresh task. If the problem persists close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer. I've refreshed disk management, restarted the computer, and converted the new disk to basic and back to dynamic, but I still get that error message. Looking around for suggestions of a workaround, I saw a suggestion to use the diskpart command line tool. Running diskpart from the Start Menu as Administrator, I did select volume 2 (the first volume I want to mirror) and then add disk 2 (the new disk), and received a somewhat similar error: Virtual Disk Service error: The disk's extent information is corrupted. DiskPart has referenced an object which is not up-to-date. Refresh the object by using the RESCAN command. If the problem persists exit DiskPart, then restart DiskPart or restart the computer. A rescan appears to be successful: DISKPART> select disk 2 Disk 2 is now the selected disk. DISKPART> rescan Please wait while DiskPart scans your configuration... DiskPart has finished scanning your configuration. but attempting to add the mirror again resulted in the same error. The only similar report I found online was this: http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/335780-unable-mirror-all-but-last-partition-drive.html Based on that I attempted to mirror the last volume on the disk to the new disk using diskpart, and that started successfully -- it is currently resynchronizing. More Background: In the course of dealing with a failing 3TB hard drive, I bought a replacement 4TB drive and installed it, then copied the partitions from the failing drive to it using Minitool Partition Wizard Home, and then removed the failing drive and was up and running again normally. Now I've received a warranty replacement for the failing drive, and installed it, and now I'm attempting to mirror my partitions to it.

While this pulls in newer mails it does not seem to clear out old mails. Which means the view contains all mails received since two days before the view was created. What is the right way to do this?

  • Java - How do I get last line using Scanner?

    while( inStream.hasNextLine() ) { ... lineList.add( inStream.nextLine() ); } ... lineList is an ArrayList. The code is reading everything nicely except it won't grab the last line. The last two lines in the text file end like this: "a sentence here..." <a blank line here. the blank line is the last line> I'm assuming it won't grab it since hasNextLine() is not detecting another line after this one? What's a way to grab the last line? I thought reading until it was EOF and then catching the exception might work but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that.

    I am using a multidimensional array and I am trying to use php to find the last value of one of the arrays and based on that last number(value), add one more to it. Here is my multidimensional array structure: $_SESSION['cart']['add_complete'][1]['deck_id'] I am trying to create this structure, but instead of where it says 1 now, I want to find out what the last number in the add_complete array is and then add one more to it and put that in the place of the 1. How can I do that?

  • How to get hudson to display the SCM diff since last build in the individual build page

    I'm not sure it's even possible, but my command line usecase goes something like this: do svn update do a svn log -l {how many times since my last commit - 1} do a `svn diff -rHEAD:{my last commit revision + 1} and try to get an overview of what happened since last time I touched the code. I get a lot of valuable information from this, and would like everybody in my team to get the same feeling of control and overview of the code base. Not everyone in my team is comfortable with the command line but like the hudson interface. So; is there a way to the the commit diff since last build (we do a build per commit) in the individual build page?

  • User Profile modified dates don't match....what is the difference?

    This question came up while I was investigating a server that randomly restarted last night. I was looking through the event logs to see if someone manually restarted the system, but nothing was identified. I went to C:\Users and there wasn't a single profile that had a modify date in a couple of years. When went to User Profiles by way of the System Properties window, I found that a handful of accounts logged in as recently as today. Those same names match to C:\Users, but the modify dates do not match. Why is this?

    I have to get a quick demo for a client, so this is a bit hacky. Please don't flame me too much! :-) I'm getting a string similar to the following back from the database: The object of the following is to do: * blah 1 * blah 2 * blah 3 * blah 4. Some more extremely uninteresting text. Followed by yet another sentence full of extrememly uninteresting text. Thankfully this is the last sentence. I need to format this so that each * represents a bullet point, and the sentence after the last * goes onto a new line, ideally as follows: The object of the following is to do: blah 1 (StackOverflow wants to add bullet points here, but I just need '*') blah 2 blah 3 blah 4. Some more extremely uninteresting text. Followed by yet another sentence full of extrememly uninteresting text. Thankfully this is the last sentence. It's easy enough to split the string by the * character and replace that with <br /> *. I'm using the following for that: string description = GetDescription(); description = description.Replace("*", "<br />*"); // it's going onto a web page. but the result this gives me is: The object of the following is to do: blah 1 blah 2 blah 3 blah 4. Some more extremely uninteresting text. Followed by yet another sentence full of extrememly uninteresting text. Thankfully this is the last sentence. I'm having a bit of difficulty identifying the fist sentence after the last '*' so I can put a break there too. Can somebody show me how to do this?

  • Is it OK to set "Cache-Control: public" when sending “304 Not Modified” for images stored in the dat

    After asking a question about sending “304 Not Modified” for images stored in the in the Google App Engine datastore, I now have a question about Cache-Control. My app now sends Last-Modified and Etag, but by default GAE alsto sends Cache-Control: no-cache. According to this page: The “no-cache” directive, according to the RFC, tells the browser that it should revalidate with the server before serving the page from the cache. [...] In practice, IE and Firefox have started treating the no-cache directive as if it instructs the browser not to even cache the page. As I DO want browsers to cache the image, I've added the following line to my code: self.response.headers['Cache-Control'] = "public" According to the same page as before: The “cache-control: public” directive [...] tells the browser and proxies [...] that the page may be cached. This is good for non-sensitive pages, as caching improves performance. The question is if this could be harmful to the application in some way? Would it be best to send Cache-Control: must-revalidate to "force" the browser to revalidate (I suppose that is the behavior that was originally the reason behind sending Cache-Control: no-cache) This directive insists that the browser must revalidate the page against the server before serving it from cache. Note that it implicitly lets the browser cache the page.

    MVP in Virtual Machines Last week, on 1st April, I received an e-mail from Microsoft letting me know that I had been presented with a 2010 Microsoft® MVP Award for outstanding contributions in Virtual Machine technical communities during the past year.   It was an honour to be nominated, and is a great reflection on the vibrancy of the UK user group community which made this possible. Virtualisation for developers, not just IT Pros I consider it a special honour as my expertise in virtualisation is as a software developer utilising virtual machines to aid my software development, rather than an IT Pro who manages data centre and network infrastructure.  I’ve been on a minor mission over the past few years to enthuse developers in a topic usually seen as only for network admins, but which can make their life a whole lot easier once understood properly. Continuous learning is fun In 1676, the scientist Isaac Newton, in a letter to Robert Hooke used the phrase (http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/268025.html) ‘If I have seen a little further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants’ I’m a nuclear physicist by education, so I am more than comfortable that any knowledge I have is based on the work of others.  Although far from a science, software development and IT is equally built upon the work of others. It’s one of the reasons I despise software patents. So in that sense this MVP award is a result of all the great minds that have provided virtualisation solutions for me to talk about.  I hope that I have always acknowledged those whose work I have used when blogging or giving presentations, and that I have executed my responsibility to share any knowledge gained as widely as possible. Thanks to all those who helped – a big thanks to the UK user group community I reckon this journey started in 2003 when I started attending a user group called the London .Net Users Group (http://www.dnug.org.uk) started by a nice chap called Ian Cooper. The great thing about Ian was that he always encouraged non professional speakers to take the stage at the user group, and my first ever presentation was on 30th September 2003; SQL Server CE 2.0 and the.NET Compact Framework. In 2005 Ian Cooper was on the committee for the first DeveloperDeveloperDeveloper! day, the free community conference held at Microsoft’s UK HQ in Thames Valley park in Reading.  He encouraged me to take part and so on 14th May 2005 I presented a talk previously given to the London .Net User Group on Simplifying access to multiple DB providers in .NET.  From that point on I definitely had the bug; presenting at DDD2, DDD3, groking at DDD4 and SQLBits I and after a break, DDD7, DDD Scotland and DDD8.  What definitely made me keen was the encouragement and infectious enthusiasm of some of the other DDD organisers; Craig Murphy, Barry Dorrans, Phil Winstanley and Colin Mackay. During the first few DDD events I met the Dave McMahon and Richard Costall from NxtGenUG who made it easy to start presenting at their user groups.  Along the way I’ve met a load of great user group organisers; Guy Smith-Ferrier of the .Net Developer Network, Jimmy Skowronski of GL.Net and the double act of Ray Booysen and Gavin Osborn behind what was Vista Squad and is now Edge UG. Final thanks to those who suggested virtualisation as a topic ... Final thanks have to go the people who inspired me to create my Virtualisation for Developers talk.  Toby Henderson (@holytshirt) ensured I took notice of Sun’s VirtualBox, Peter Ibbotson for being a fine sounding board at the Kew Railway over quite a few Adnam’s Broadside and to Guy Smith-Ferrier for allowing his user group to be the guinea pigs for the talk before it was seen at DDD7.  Thanks to all of you I now know much more about virtualisation than I would have thought possible and it continues to be great fun. Conclusion If this was an academy award acceptance speech I would have been cut off after the first few paragraphs, so well done if you made it this far.  I’ll be doing my best to do justice to the MVP award and the UK community.  I’m fortunate in having a new employer who considers presenting at user groups as a good thing, so don’t expect me to stop any time soon.   • Is there a way to identify that a file has been modified and moved?

    I'm writing an application that catalogs files, and attributes them with extra meta data through separate "side-car" files. If changes to the files are made through my program then it is able to keep everything in sync between them and their corresponding meta data files. However, I'm trying to figure out a way to deal with someone modifying the files manually while my program is not running. When my program starts up it scans the file system and compares the files it finds to it's previous record of what files it remembers being there. It's fairly straight forward to update after a file has been deleted or added. However, if a file was moved or renamed then my program sees that as the old file being deleted, and the new file being added. Yet I don't want to loose the association between the file and its metadata. I was thinking I could store a hash from each file so I could check to see if newly found files were really previously known files that had been moved or renamed. However, if the file is both moved/renamed and modified then the hash would not match either. So is there some other unique identifier of a file that I can track which stays with it even after it is renamed, moved, or modified?

  • Rotate triangle so that its tip points in the direction of the point on the screen that we last touched

    OpenGL ES - Android. Hello all, I am unable to rotate the triangle accordingly in such a way that its tip always points to my finger. What i did : Constructed a triangle in by GL.GL_TRIANGLES. Added touch events to it. I can rotate the triangle along my Z-axis successfully. Even made the vector class for it. What i need : Each time when I touch the screen, I want to rotate the triangle to face the touch point. Need some help. Here's what i implemented. I wonder that where i am going wrong?     I'm enumerating over a collection that implements IList, and during the enumeration I am modifying the collection. I get the error, "Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute." I want to know why this error occurs when modifying a item in the collection during iteration. I've already converted my foreach loop to a for loop, but I want to know the 'details' on why this error occurs.

  • Access to modified closure, is this a ReSharper bug?

    I have the latest ReSharper 5.0 build (1655), where I have encountered the suggestion 'Access to modified closure' on the following code: var now = new DateTime(1970, 1, 1); var dates = new List<DateTime>(); dates.Where(d => d > now); and the now inside the lambda expression is underlined with the warning. I'm pretty sure that's a ReSharper bug, but is it really?

  • How Netbeans Editors know that file is not modified after undo?

    Netbeans uses standart UndoManager API for implementation of undo functionality. But neither standart javax.swing.undo.UndoManager nor org.openide.awt.UndoRedo.Manager doesn't have any method to mark states as saved and check modified status. Nonetheless if you change the file and press undo, the file is marked as unmodified. How do they do that? I need the same functionality for my (non-text) editors if the Netbeans RCP application.
