• Linksys WRT54G2 not showing connected PC's in DHCP table

  For some reason all of a sudden my linksys WRT54G2 no longer shows PC's connected in the DHCP table. It was being touchy then all of a sudden they all just disappeared. It showed 2 of the 4 connected then it showed the other 2 then it only showed 1 and then it was showing none. I seem to be having a connection reset every 30-60 minutes also not sure if that is related to the router going bad or if it is just comcast being it's typical crappy self. I have tried to reset my router and my cable modem and both problems still seem to keep happening(no PC's in table and connection reset every 30-60 mins). Now I know the router doesn't store clients after a router reboot but they normally show up within a matter of minutes for me in the past. Before anyone asks yes all devices on the network are using DHCP and not static. Could this be a sign of the router starting to go bad?

  I am looking for a low power, low end pc able to run 24/7 without overheating and a way to support it in case of power failure. Power failures can be up to 72 hours. The pc dosen't need a monitor or keyboard. A modem must also be protected in case of power failure. When i say low end, i don't mean crap.   Newbie. Setting up a server for a law firm. Want to set up the folder structure as follows: Client 1 Name -- Matter 1 (i.e. setting up corporation) -- Matter 2 (i.e. divorce) -- Matter 3 (i.e. setting up trust) Client 2 Name -- Matter 1 Client 3 Name -- Matter 1 and so on. But the attorneys prefer navigating a folder structure, more based on what case type: Civil -- Client 1 Name (i.e. Smythe) -- Client 2 Name (i.e. Jones) -- Client 3 Name (i.e. Johson) -- Landlord/Tenant -- Client 1 Name (i.e. Jones) -- Client 2 Name (i.e. Johson) -- Class Action Suits -- Suit 1 -- Suit 2 Personal Injury -- Client 1 Name -- Client 2 Name -- Client 3 Name Criminal -- Client 1 Name (i.e. Smythe) I'd like to know if it's possible to set up the server with the first folder structure (it's more organized and easier to employ scripts), while having the second folder structure available for users who find it easier to deal with the same types of cases grouped together.

• Communicating with the PC via USB connection in Android

  I'm fairly new to android programming and need some information for a 4th year forensics course project. Basically I am trying to create a suite of tools for live analysis of an android phone. I know how to get the information I need on the phone, but I was wondering if there was a way to communicate that information back to the PC? I want to be able to run a program from a PC, which, when the phone is docked, will allow the user to access information about the phone (ie currently running services/processes, bluetooth/wifi connections, etc). I have a bunch of methods that will run on the phone and get all the information, but I want to be able to call those methods from the PC, execute on the phone, then have the information sent back to the PC to display to the user instead of just displaying it on the phone. This is to leave as small a footprint on the phone as possible. Thanks a lot.

• OS X Server App ail not accept login credentials

  I cannot login to the server app and i know for sure all the login info is right. every time i enter my password the name window shakes to tell me it's invalid. I never post unless I'm out of ideas and I need it to be up so I can host my splash page tonight. i've spoken with "certified apple" specialists at some local mac stores and they are stumped too. Something is going on with the apache server, that's all i know for sure. I'll be monitoring this closely so any requests for info, etc. can be filled instantly. Thanks in advance. here's a few things i've noticed: I can ssh successfully into the server address as both root and admin. I've been fussing with the workgroup manager and could use guidance if that's where the problem lies. console shows this message repeatedly (org.apache.httpd[1890]) Exited with code: 1).   I am working through the security guide from apple (which they did not update since Snow Leopard). In the firewall section it states that ipfw has a default allow rule: 65535 allow ip from any to any And if you enable the firewalls 'stealth mode' via the settings the following rule should be added: 33300 deny icmp from any to me in icmptypes 8 The funny thing is: I have stealth enabled and I do not see this rule when doing sudo ipfw print Any idea where stealth mode is enforced if not in the ipfw ruleset?

• Custom Icon for NFS Volume Mount - Possible for OSX?

  We are naming our various network volumes after Planets! I renamed the Mercury.icns icon, to .VolumeIcon.icns and copied it over to the mount point folder of the NFS server. So far remounting the NFS share does not seem to employ this icon. Looking on the NFS server, there appears to be two VolumeIcon files. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? Permissions? Do I need a .DS_Store file there as well?? It shouldn't be this hard! EDIT: Should have mentioned, the NFS server is Ubuntu 12.04.1. NOT an OSX server.

• OSX 10.8 Corrupted User Account Using Launchctl

  I used the following command: launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.notificationcenterui.plist in an attempt to disable notification center. I'm not sure that I got all of the commands right and appear to have corrupted the account that I executed it from - I get a grey screen when I try to login on that account. Fortunately I have another account on the machine with admin privileges so I can still use the machine. I would however like to restore the account to a working condition preferably without having to resort to a complete system restore from my time machine backup. Is there a way of diagnosing the current status of this launchagent and returning it to its original state?

• Cannot boot from USB on my Mac mini

  Two weeks ago I installed OSX 10.8 on my Mac mini. After that, my system started to hang a lot, so I tried to erase it and install OSX 10.7 again. I used carbon Copy Cloner to make the bootable USB and it can load successfully on another Macbook. However, on my Mac mini, when I press on the option button to select the USB, it loads the white screen with a ban symbol at the center of the screen. After a moment, my machine automatically shuts down. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Edit: this is exactly the problem I have now http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-1207168.html Update 1: the hdd seems ok (from disk utility). I restored the booting partition by disk utility (drag the dmg file to that partition). After restarting and using that partition to boot, prohibited symbol is still there

• OS X Headphone jack issue [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Optical Audio out stuck on on a MacBook When I plug my headphones into my iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011; OSX 10.8.1) and try to adjust the volume, the volume popup shows a greyed out speaker and there's a circle with a line through it signalling that it isn't working. I've tried the headphones with my iPhone, other iMacs etc and they're fine. This is incredibly frustrating. Other headphones don't generally work either. In Sound preferences the headphones are being listed as "Optical digital-out port" which is incorrect and would explain the problem, but doesn't help me fix it. Any ideas?

• Changed folder contents not updating in Finder (OS X 10.8)

  I've been having this problem for a number of days now. When I update the contents of a folder using terminal commands, by decompressing archives, or by using "Save As", the affected folder often fails to reflect these changes. Sometimes it takes quite a while for any files to be shown, even if the total size of the folder is fairly small (< 10 MB). I'm running an '09 MacBook Pro 13", so it isn't the newest system, but it certainly has enough oomph to display a list of files in a folder. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

  I live in a university campus and luckly I have super fast internet in my room, with a static IP address. I tried to setup XAMPP and by pointing to my IP address from anywhere I can access the services running on my PC. Now I am thinking of hosting my own website on my own PC. I am not sure what else I will need (beside the static IP) to make this happen (if it is possible at all). I am running Windows 7 ultimate and of course I do have a domain registered. What should I point my domains DNS names to make this happen (I assume it is far more steps involved!)

• How do I mount a harddrive to my /home folder in OS X?

  Im wondering how to mount my second HDD to my /home folder like you do in other *NIX systems, making the mount point just that folder and not a standard HDD. I am aware of the method of copying my /home folder and then telling OSX via System Preferences/Users & Groups to look for the folder in a different location. What I am wondering is if there is a way to properly mount the entire HDD to become nothing more than my /home. I don't want it to even show up in Finder as an HDD. Is this even possible?

• Can't connect disk management to remote XP PC from local Win7/Server 2008

  Scenario as follows: support technicians using Windows 7 PC's or Server 2008 terminal server are unable to connect Disk Management MMC snap in to a remote PC when the remote device is running Windows XP. "Disk management could not start Virtual Disk Service (VDS) on ". This can happen if the remote computer does not support VDS, or if a connection cannot be established because it was blocked by Windows Firewall." Connecting from another XP machine or 2003 server to the same XP machines works fine. Even connecting from XP/2003 to the Win7 or 2008 server works fine. Windows firewall disabled on all devices. I'm guessing this is something to do with the fact that XP uses logical disk manager service whereas Win7/2008 use Virtual disk manager service. But there doesn't seem to be any way to use logical disk manager service from 7/2008 to connect to XP...

• Nearest PC equivalent to Mac Target Disk Mode?

  Mac firmware has a special boot mode that allows you to offer its internal hdd to another computer as an external disk (you just connect the two machines via an IEEE 1394 cable). Only the second machine needs a functioning OS installed. Any good suggestions for something similar on the PC side of things? Block level access isn't important to me, I'd just like to be able to copy files off it. It doesn't matter to me if it uses Ethernet, IEEE 1394, or wifi - I just like having a quick way to access files on a client PC. Is there any single-purpose Linux distro specially designed to do this? It'd be nice to have something super simple, quickbooting, and small that I could install on a USB drive. I used to use Knoppix, but it's overkill as a Target Mode replacement.

• Permissions on mac for itunes library with multiple users - idea

  I currently have a lot of music on an external drive and my itunes set up from there. However, periodically, when the external drive isn't connected, itunes will default back to the library location of my home directory user path. I don't want to mess with an external drive, as my mac HD is large enough to house the music collection. However, I have 4 family members - all with their own logins - using this same gob of music. I don't want 4 copies of the library, only one with all libraries referencing it. So, what I want to do is: 1 - move all music files to a shared directory at /Macintosh HD/users/music. I created this directory and adjusted permissions, so all four users can read and write to this directory. 2 - get all four accounts to reference this library instead of the external or local home locations I am hoping I can just check the box to keep library organized in my account, which is the admin and let itunes move it all. Then delete current libraries for each account and re-add from the new shared location. Will the itunes organization process cause permissions issues either by setting permissions to all the files access to my account only or write permissions or any other 'gotcha'? I am having a hard time coming up with a smooth solution that won't break everything and cause me to have mega duplicates or access issues. I would prefer not to do any xml library file editing if possible. Am I dreaming? Thanks for help.

• OS X Apache giving 503 error for anything in /api directory

  I have a locally hosted website that uses Smarty templates, I'm trying to get started on building an API for the site. I've used virtualhost.sh to create a local virtual host for this and other sites. I've discovered that if I put a directory called api at the root of any of these virtual hosts I will get a 503 error when I try to access anything inside. I am using mod-rewrite but so far only to append a .php extension when needed. Here are the error logs for a request: [Thu Feb 09 13:42:37 2012] [error] proxy: HTTP: disabled connection for (localhost) [Thu Feb 09 13:49:06 2012] [error] (61)Connection refused: proxy: HTTP: attempt to connect to [fe80::1]:8080 (localhost) failed [Thu Feb 09 13:49:06 2012] [error] ap_proxy_connect_backend disabling worker for (localhost) The middle line gave me a clue to look in my hosts file because why would a request go to [fe80::1]:8080? I commented out that line and tried again, this time the error was in connecting to the standard 127.0.0.1 localhost. I have concluded that perhaps there is some config file somewhere picking up the underlying request of localhost/api and pointing it somewhere other than my virtual host. At this point my ability to fix the problem fails me. Can anyone help?

  Hi! Once upon a time, my pc suite had a function to prepare ringtones and upload them to the E65. Now I find myself with the all-new Nokia PC Suite 7.1 and I cannot find anything which resembles that function. I used to select a midi file, add some options, listen to a preview, and then upload it. It would appear among the ringing tones when customizing profiles.
