  I have a HP dv9830us laptop. It has a vga-out and a hdmi-out port. I want to know if it's possible to use 3 devices, each one with different displays, using just one graphic card - NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS? (Original, vga with an external monitor and hdmi with a full hd tv). Where I can find this kind of information? If not possible, I would like to know alternatives like: "Usb" solutions to be possible to connect to the external lcd or to a TV. The TV should be flawless, but the second monitor can have slow response times; Cheap PCMCIA video cards to be possible to connect to an external monitor, so I would use the hdmi with the tv and this second video card to output to another monitor. I'm using Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04. Is this possible in both systems?

This works, but managing the proxies involves edits to the shared config, and an apache2 restart. Is there a way to manage individual proxies with a2ensite and a2dissite (or a better alternative)? My main objective is to isolate each proxy config as a separate file, and manage it via commands. First Attempt I tried making separate files with their own VirtualHost entries for each service: /etc/apache2/sites-available/js-host-serviceA <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName js-host.example.com [...] ProxyPass /serviceA http://192.168.100.50/ ProxyPassReverse /serviceA http://192.168.100.50/ </VirtualHost> /etc/apache2/sites-available/js-host-serviceB <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName js-host.example.com [...] ProxyPass /serviceB http://192.168.100.51/ ProxyPassReverse /serviceB http://192.168.100.51/ </VirtualHost> The problem with this is apache2 loads the first VirtualHost for a particular ServerName, and ignores the rest.   My company publishes sites on a somewhat convoluted domain structure, and we're having trouble getting accurate numbers in Analytics when we have multiple trackers on the page. We publish under two brands (A, B). Each brand has a "national" site at A.com, B.com, as well as per-city "local" sites at eg. ny.A.com, la.A.com, sf.A.com, etc. Right now we're trying to track in these dimensions: Full network (A.com, ny.A.com, B.com, la.B.com, etc.) All sites in brand (A.com, ny.A.com, la.A.com, etc.) Inidividual site (ny.A.com) Here are the commands we're using on an individual site: _gaq.push( ['t0._setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXX-1'], // full network ['t0._setDomainName', 'none'], ['t0._setAllowLinker', true], ['t0._trackPageview'], ['t1._trackPageLoadTime'], ['t1._setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXX-2'], // brand ['t1._setDomainName', 'none'], ['t1._setAllowLinker', true], ['t1._trackPageview'], ['t1._trackPageLoadTime'], ['t2._setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXX-3'], // individual ['t2._setDomainName', 'none'], ['t2._setAllowLinker', true], ['t2._trackPageview'], ['t2._trackPageLoadTime'] ); We send the same commands to each account because we've had strange results when trackers were configured differently in the past.   Looking at the demographics of sites like this one, there seems to be a very heavy US weighing of users. I know there have been discussions about using English as a programmer, but the are some large countries with large programmer bases that must be using localized sites. Countries like Brazil and China, in particular, what sites do programmers go for discussions? Do a lot of the threads link up to English speaking sites like these? In France they obviously prefer their own language, what do the equivalent sites look like? I don't want to turn this into an English language speaking discussion like this one, it's more a general trans-cultural programming curiosity.

However, I'm trying to have desktop applications for multiple users start when the computer reboots/starts. Some apps I'm aiming for are Google Music Manager, remote desktop server for each session, etc. How can I either have multiple user sessions launch on boot to get these apps going -or- have them launch some other way for those users? Right now I have my primary user automatically login to start its session and related apps...

  Possible Duplicate: How to find web hosting that meets my requirements? I have 3 rails sites to launch, all of which are fairly small and consisting of a custom cms, one with an online store, and 2 sinatra sites which are mainly static, portfolio sites. What would be the best way to host these sites (I've deployed on dreamhost shared before and some vps's) Is it best to manage them together under one vps? e.g linode $20/m (for the cheapest option, 512mb and would that even be enough ram?) or keep each rails site separate and host each one on a small vps? e.g $4/m (there's often lots of deals like this on webhostingtalk) I'm currently hosting the sinatra sites for free on heroku but finding it a bit slow sometimes.

• Search engine recommendation for 100 sites of about 4000 pages

  I am looking for a search engine that can regularly (daily-ish) scan about 100 pages for changes and index an associated site if changes since the last scan are found. It should be able to handle about 100 sites, each averaging 4000 pages of about 5k average size, each on a different server (but only the one centralized search engine). Each of these sites will have a search form that gets submitted to this search engine. The results that are returned must be specific to the site that submitted them. I create the templates for the external sites, so I can give the search form a hidden field that specifies which site the form is submitted from. What would you recommend I look into? I would love to use a Python-based system for this, if feasible. I am currently using something called iSearch2. It doesn't seem very stable at this scale, the description of the product states it is not really intended to do multiple sites, is in PHP (which is less comfortable to me than Python), and has a few other shortcomings for my specific situation.

It's a great question, the short answer is that yes, it's possible.   Do you want to develop an add-in targeting multiple versions of Office? And you have basic questions like “Is it possible to do? ” and “How to do it?” ? Then you came to the right place. Few months back, I got a requirement to developed add-ins for Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007. The functionality for both the versions is same. A doubt stroked… when the functionality is same, why would I develop two add-ins separately? Why don’t I make a single build for both the versions of Office? Then I started searching for techniques to develop add-ins which works in both (2003 and 2007) and read many articles written by VSTO Experts in their blogs, Official VSTO Blog, MSDN, Forums and what not. Misha Says: Theoretically, you can develop an add-in for multiple versions of Microsoft Office by catering to the lowest common denominator. This means if you use an Excel 2003 add-in template in Visual Studio 2008, you would be able to develop and debug this with Excel 2007. However if you try this, you may meet these error messages: “You cannot debug or run this project, because the required version of the Microsoft Office application is not installed.”, followed by “Unable to start debugging.” You can develop Office 2003 add-in in a system where Office 2007 is installed. • Multiple render targets and gamma correctness in Direct3D9

  Let's say in a deferred renderer when building your G-Buffer you're going to render texture color, normals, depth and whatever else to your multiple render targets at once. Now if you want to have a gamma-correct rendering pipeline and you use regular sRGB textures as well as rendertargets, you'll need to apply some conversions along the way, because your filtering, sampling and calculations should happen in linear space, not sRGB space. Of course, you could store linear color in your textures and rendertargets, but this might very well introduce bad precision and banding issues. Reading from sRGB textures is easy: just set SRGBTexture = true; in your texture sampler in your HLSL effect code and the hardware does the conversion sRGB-linear for you. Writing to an sRGB rendertarget is theoretically easy, too: just set SRGBWriteEnable = true; in your effect pass in HLSL and your linear colors will be converted to sRGB space automatically. But how does this work with multiple rendertargets? I only want to do these corrections to the color textures and rendertarget, not to the normals, depth, specularity or whatever else I'll be rendering to my G-Buffer. Ok, so I just don't apply SRGBTexture = true; to my non-color textures, but when using SRGBWriteEnable = true; I'll do a gamma correction to all the values I write out to my rendertargets, no matter what I actually store there. I found some info on gamma over at Microsoft: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb173460%28v=vs.85%29.aspx For hardware that supports Multiple Render Targets (Direct3D 9) or Multiple-element Textures (Direct3D 9), only the first render target or element is written. If I understand correctly, SRGBWriteEnable should only be applied to the first rendertarget, but according to my tests it doesn't and is used for all rendertargets instead. Now the only alternative seems to be to handle these corrections manually in my shader and only correct the actual color output, but I'm not totally sure, that this'll not have any negative impact on color correctness. E.g. if the GPU does any blending or filtering or multisampling after the Linear-sRGB conversion... Do I even need gamma correction in this case, if I'm just writing texture color without lighting to my rendertarget? As far as I know, I DO need it because of the texture filtering and mip sampling happening in sRGB space instead, if I don't correct for it. Anyway, it'd be interesting to hear other people's solutions or thoughts about this.

• OSB 11g & SAP – Single Channel/Program ID for Multiple IDOCs

  Background This note is a supplement to the blog entry, SOA 11g & SAP – Single Channel/Program ID for Multiple IDOCs by Greg Mally. Greg has shown how a single SOA Suite composite can be used with iWay Adapters to receive multiple IDOC types via a single channel in the adapter, corresponding to a single programID on the SAP system. We will try to address the same requirements within the OSB framework here. Project Built - Design Time The basic build of an OSB project with iWay SAP Adapter, as seen in another entry in this blog, consists of working in OSB Design console and Application Explorer. OSB Design Time - Part 1 We will create a placeholder project first in OSB with a proper directory structure, so that we can export the WSDL, XSD and the JCA binding information from Application Explorer directly into this project. Application Explorer - iWay Design Time Tool Receiving IDOCs is classified as an inbound event within Application Explorer. For setting up events, a channel is first defined (e.g. iDoc_Channel) using the same PROGRAMID (RFC destination), as defined within SAP for the OSB server. Next, the same channel is used to export the JCA Inbound Event artifacts for the candidate IDOC, e.g. DEBMAS06 directly to the pre-created OSB project. Note that the validation for schema has been turned off. As a result, this will allow the adapter, at runtime, to use a single channel to receive multiple IDOC types from SAP and pass them on to the OSB runtime engine without any validation. In other words, we do not have to repeat the above step for each IDOC type. OSB Design Time - Part 2 Create 2 simple XML based Business Services to write to a file, e.g.  SAP_DEBMAS_File and SAP_MATMAS_File. Next, generate a Proxy Service using the JCA binding file exported from Application Explorer in the previous section. In the generated proxy service, edit the message flow and add a route node. Add a routing table in the route node with the following routing function. fn:local-name-from-QName(fn:node-name($body/*[1])) This function takes advantage of the fact that the XML payload at runtime, after translation by adapter, has the IDOC type as the top element. With the routing function in place, build the routing table to add 2 branches to route the IDOCs to the appropriate Business Service for writing the XML payload to files in separate directories. This completes the build of the OSB project. Testing - Run-Time After deployment and activation, the SAP adapter will wait to receive multiple types of IDOCs sent from the SAP system using a single channel. Upon receipt of the IDOCs, the OSB project will route them appropriately to save the corresponding XML payloads for different IDOC types in different directories.

  hi i am looking for a recap of what i have done already to see if i missed anything. i had two cities connected by wan using a ipsec persistent tunnel between gateways. i had one DC (DOMAIN CONTROLLER) in each city that was a global catalog server (GC) they were set up to replicate and i had them configured under Sites and Servers with their own subnet etc... about 6 months ago the one city was removed and i was not able to gracefully remove, through dcpromo, the server that was there. it is no longer used and cannot be brought back. the company went from two sites down to single site. Problem is i had a whole bunch of kcc errors and replication bugs in the event viewer. i wanted to clean up my active directory and decided to use the ntdsutil metadata cleanup commands. i removed the server from the specifed site based on a procedure from petri website. I then removed the instances of the old DC and site from Sites and Servers. Then i went and cleaned up the DNS by removing Host A records, NS server name from both the local DNS forward lookup zone and the _msdcs i also removed the reverse lookup zone for the subnet that no longer exists. is there anything i missed? thanks in advance for any help. gd

• Can't resolve offline file conflicts

  We use roaming profiles on our Server 2008 R2 domain, with folder redirection for 'desktop', 'my documents' and 'application data'. But as our network is split across two sites, we have one file server at each site, which are configured to use domain based DFS namespaces and DFS replication to keep things in sync. The DFS path for the replication folder is as follows: \\domain\folderredirection$\<username>\<redirected-folder-name> The real paths are \\site-1-server\folderredirection$\<username>\<redirected-folder-name> and \\site-2-server\folderredirection$\<username>\<redirected-folder-name> As our users all switch between sites (sometimes several time per day), our folder redirection policy has to redirect to the DFS roots rather than hardcoded to a specific server. Both DFS and DFS-R have been proven to be working perfectly. On our laptops, we use offline files for the redirected folders, and this also works fine, however the problem is as follows: When conflicts occur in offline files, it is impossible to resolve the conflicts. I'm given the usual conflict resolution options (i.e. 'Ignore', 'Keep Both', 'Keep network' and 'Keep local'), however, not one of these options will resolve any conflict, yet no error is produced. We only use offline files on laptops, which have either Windows XP Professional or Windows 7 Professional installed. The problem is not specific to any one laptop, it affects every laptop and every conflicting file in exactly the same way. I would have thought the set up we have is common for companies that have multiple sites, so I'm hoping someone will have seen this before?
