    Does it make sense to give signoff authority to testers? Should a test team Just test features, issues, etc, and simply report on a pass/fail basis, leaving it up to others to act on those results, or Have authority to hold up releases themselves based on those results? In other words, should testers be required to actually sign off on releases? The testing team I'm working with feels that they do, and we're having an issue with this because of "testing scope creep" -- the refusal to approve releases is sometimes based on issues explicitly not addressed by the release in question.

    Yesterday I was making upgrade (from 11.04 to 12.04) when I have got power failure. I don't known where the installer was, because I wasn't in the front of computer at that moment. After restart Ubuntu started to version 12.04 and everything looks OK. But - I'm not sure if everything was installed correctly? How can I check it or how can I "restart" my automatic upgrade tool to do everything again and "to the end"? Some more infomations: lsb_release -a: No LSB modules are available.     I'm a software developer, currently working on web development. We are a small company a team with 2 persons, a developer and a designer and we have no-one to test our applications. From the last week I was somehow rushed to finish a task within a project programmed by someone else and I released it with a bug which I did not see. Today I got the last warning and if there is a release with a bug I will be fired. So is this fair enough to get fired because releases with bugs without any testers around or should I really improve my skills on testing?

  • Sanity checks vs file sizes

    In your game assets do you make room for explicit sanity checks, or do you have some generally expected bounds which you assert? I've been thinking about how we compress data and thought that it's much better to have the former, and less of the latter. If your data can exceed your normal valid ranges, but if it does it's an error, then surely that implies you're not compressing the data well enough? What do you do to find out if your data is compressed as far as it can be, and what do you use to ensure your data isn't corrupted and ensure it's an official release? EDIT I'm not interested in sanity checking the file size, but instead, how you manage your sanity checks and whether you arrange the excess size caused by the opportunity to do sanity checks by using explicit extra data, or through allowing the data enough file space (data member size) to be out of valid range and thus able to be checked merely by looking at the asset in memory after loading.

The main page currently lists up to 11.10 (or 12.04.3 if you count point upgrades), but the dists page lists up to 13.04. Why the discrepancy? When will the main page be updated? When will the newest EOL release (13.10) be shifted here? I'd like documentation backing up answers, please.
