    vim comes with a nice built-in interactive tutorial. You can access this tutorial by just running: $ vimtutor It is very easy to use because it creates working cases for basic commands. Is there a more advanced tutorial? Has any one though to build one to help uses take their VIM skills to the next level. Most tutorial and cheat-sheet sites out there for vim only show commands but not necessarily specific uses and examples. Is there an advance tutorial out there? Is this the type of project that could be an open source document that everyone can add examples to? Like a Vim Interactive Wiki or similar to the RegEx sites that have the built in regex testers.

  • ProgrammingError: (1146, "Table 'test_<DB>.<TABLE>' doesn't exist") when running unit test for Djang

    I'm running a unit test using the Django framework and get this error. Running the actual code does not have this problem, running the unit tests creates a test database on the fly so I suspect the issue lies there. The code that throws the error looks like this member = Member.objects.get(email=email_address) and the model looks like class Member(models.Model): member_id = models.IntegerField(primary_key=True) created_on = models.DateTimeField(editable=False, default=datetime.datetime.utcnow()) flags = models.IntegerField(default=0) email = models.CharField(max_length=150, blank=True) phone = models.CharField(max_length=150, blank=True) country_iso = models.CharField(max_length=6, blank=True) location_id = models.IntegerField(null=True, blank=True) facebook_uid = models.IntegerField(null=True, blank=True) utc_offset = models.IntegerField(null=True, blank=True) tokens = models.CharField(max_length=3000, blank=True) class Meta: db_table = u'member' there's nothing too odd there i can see. the user running the tests has the same permissions to the database server as the user that runs the website where else can I look to see what's going wrong, why is this table not being created?

  • Apache SSL for login and NON-SSL for everything else (.htacces)

    Hey I've almost figured it out on my own but there's something I'm missing. I want to set a couple of directories and files to require SSL and everything else that's not related to those files and dirs to point back to http. So far I have this: RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / # Force ssl for login & admin RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !on RewriteRule ^/?(admin(.*)|login\.php)$ https://%{SERVER_NAME}/$1 [R,NC,L] # Force non-ssl for others RewriteCond %{HTTPS} on RewriteRule ^/?(admin(.*)|login\.php)$ http://%{SERVER_NAME}/$1 [R,NC,L] I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but I just can't figure it out.... The first condition works perfect - whenever I access login.php or /admin/ it points to https. But the second one doesn't... Where have I mistaken ? Thanks in advance!

  • Run non-interactive script in single user mode

    Is it possible to run a "startup" script when booting into single user mode? I need to be able to boot into single user mode, run my script, then reboot into multiuser mode without any human interaction. I've done a bunch of research and can't find anything that is clear on the topic, although of course I could replace something else that does run with a wrapper that also launches my script, but I'd prefer to do it in some official way. Ideally, the solution will work in FreeBSD 6 and up, but I'm willing to accept only new versions if it just doesn't exist in the older revs.

  • MySQL date query only returns one year, when multiple exist

    I'm a part-time designer/developer with a part-time photography business. I've got a database of photos with various bits of metadata attached. I want to query the database and return a list of the years that photos were taken, and the quantity of photos that were taken in that year. In short, I want a list that looks like this: 2010 (35 photos) 2009 (67 photos) 2008 (48 photos) Here's the query I'm using: SELECT YEAR(date) AS year, COUNT(filename) as quantity FROM photos WHERE visible='1' GROUP BY 'year' ORDER BY 'year' DESC Instead of churning out all the possible years (the database includes photos from 2010-2008), this is the sole result: 2010 (35 photos) I've tried a lot of different syntax but at this point I'm giving in and asking for help!

    I understand that MVC & MVP are design patterns that are commonly used for web development, as well as ASP.NET WebForms (more of an anti-pattern, really!). What other patterns are used in web application development? I'm not necessarily saying I want to learn/use new patterns just to be different - I do believe there's a lot of value in taking the conventional route - but I think it's good to know what else is out there to be able to properly understand what I'm currently working with.     I'm using webhost4life shared hosting right now. They have a 99.99% up-time guarantee, but it is definitely not. Their support has been good when I do contact them, but it's just not stable. The site will just go down at random times for 5-10 minutes at a time. I know I'm on shared hosting, but I was hoping it would be more stable than it is. My app isn't at the point where it would need dedicated hosting yet, if the shared was stable enough. Any affordable hosting that you can vouch for (that supports ASP.NET MVC)?

  • Non-ECC memory with ZFS: a stupid idea?

    I'm the proud new owner of an HP Proliant Microserver N40L, and planning to upgrade the (obviously paltry 2 GB of) memory to the maximum of 16 GB. (Theoretically 8 GB is the limit, but empirically 16 GB has been shown to work.) Some guides advise that ECC memory is not that important, but I'm not so sure I believe this. I've installed FreeNAS and am planning to add ZFS volumes as soon as my new hard drives arrive. Would it be stupid to skimp and get non-ECC memory for a ZFS-based NAS? If it's necessary, then I'll bite the bullet, but if it's just paranoia, then I'll probably skip it.

    Hello, I'm having the following problem. I'm installing SharePoint 2010 Beta so I need to activate the windows feature "Windows Communication Foundation Non-HTTP Activation". The problem is I cannot activate it, i get the message: "An error has occurred. Not all features were successfully changed" When i look at the log (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) I found this error: Process output: [l:186 [186]"SMConfigInstaller[Error]: Failed in calling 'StartService' for service 'NetTcpActivator'. Error code: 0x8007042c Anyone can give me a clue of what is happening here?

  • Nested for loop error with !null checking an element that doesn't exist

    I am currently using nested for loops in a 2D array of size 4,2. When I run my program, I get index out of bounds Exception on the following line else if (state[i][j+1] != null && state[i][j].getFlash() <= state[i][j].getCycleLength() && state[i][j+1].getCycleLength() == state[i][j].getCycleLength()){ } It says the index out of bounds is 2. I would understand the error if I wasn't checking to see if [i][j+1] wasn't null, but I don't understand the exception with the check? I tried moving around the !null check but the program still fails on this line. Any help would be greatly appreciated.     Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 523800 bytes) in /Library/WebServer/Documents/XMLDataStore.class.php on line 981 The curious thing about this error is not the memory leak, which would be easy enough to troubleshoot. Rather, it is the fact that XMLDataStore.class.php is only 850 lines long, which I have verified in multiple text editors. This is with the PHP 5.3 bundled with Snow Leopard. I'm not using an opcode cache. Here is my php.ini: allow_url_fopen = Off error_reporting = -1 display_errors = 1 display_startup_errors = 1 date.timezone = 'America/Los_Angeles' output_buffering = Off realpath_cache_size = 0k XMLDataStore.class.php has recently been refactored and it used to be longer than 981 lines. It's almost as if PHP has cached a 2-week-old version and is reading that. I'm positive that the current version at /Library/WebServer/Documents/XMLDataStore.class.php is only 850 lines long, though.
