  • What are the recommended BEST CASE hardware requirements for TFS 2010

    - by Doug
Hi guys, i have installed TFS 2010 in a 2 server setup with an App Tier server and a SQL Server and am not 100% happy with the performance. Both are running in VM's on SAN disks and have been given the following virtual hardware each: Windows 2008 R2 1 CPU @ 2.8Ghz 2gb RAM what should i lift - neither machine is hammered but both do go up to 80% when people are doing things on them - should i add another CPU to each - usually this is now required in a VMWARE setup but i don't know if TFS 2010 takes advantage of an extra core??? thank you in advance :-)

    - by yCalleecharan
Hi, I currently have MVS2008 and I want to try the 2010 version hoping that it would compile C programs faster. I would like to know if I can have a 2008 installation coexisting with a 2010 installation on the same Windows partition, without conflicts in the Windows environment variables in Win XP. Thanks a lot...

    - by pcampbell
Consider a snippet of from a .css file in Visual Studio 2010 to be commented out. Normally Ctrl-E + Ctrl-C will comment your selected HTML and other source code. Highlighting CSS code results in: The key combination is bound to command (Comment Selection) which is not currently available. To comment CSS in Visual Studio 2010, is there a toolbar or keyboard shortcut to comment the highlighted text for you?

  • Visual studio 2010 exiting after program ends

    - by yCalleecharan
Hi, I'm trying out Visual studio 2010 by compiling a C program. After it displays the solution in the "DOS" command window, the window is immediately closed. In Visual studio 2008, one gets the message press any key to continue and pressing a key closes the command prompt window. How do I set this behavior in 2010? Thanks a lot...

  • How do you scale a pictureLink object in Excel 2010

    - by vzczc
In Excel 2007 it is possible to scale a pictureLink object (created with the Camera Tool) using the following VBA code. With ActiveWorkbook.Sheets(sht).Pictures(name) .ShapeRange.ScaleWidth scaleValue, msoTrue .ShapeRange.ScaleHeight scaleValue, msoTrue .top = top .left = left End With This code places the picture correctly in 2010, but the scaleValue is ignored. The 2010 Excel documentation is patchy on this subject. The same code works fine in Excel 2007.

I have tried to compile under different target CPU's but that hasn't helped..

  • Experience with Coderush XPress and Visual Studio 2010?

    - by HumerGu
It is possible to use CRX with VS 2010: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1441554/can-i-use-coderush-xpress-in-visual-studio-2010 Refactor Key works. (After assigning the shortcut) What doesn't work is QuickNav and QuickFileNav. The Standard Shourtcut for QuickFileNav is CTRL+ALT+F, which is conflicted with VS View.F#Interactive. But removing this shortcut or changing the shortcuts for QuickNav and QuickFileNav doesn't bring up the nav-windows. NextReference (TABULATOR) doesn't work Any solutions? Other issues?

I have tried to see if there is any settings anywhere but i cant seem to find any. Does anyone know if you can change this or did they make it default in 2010 Im using C#, if that makes a difference.

  • Setup Project in Visual Studio 2010 Requires .NET 4.0

    - by Filip Ekberg
When setting up a Setup Project in Visual Studio 2010 and even to I removing all the prerequistes .NET 4.0 is still required on the computer that runs the Installation. Deploying with ClickOnce works but is not an option, but at least it doesn't ask for .NET 4.0. Is there a way to create a Setup Project in Visual Studio 2010 that doesn't require .NET 4.0 on installation? Edit This is one of the test configurations i've tested And this is what it looks like when I run setup.exe or the .msi

Hello, When I start a new Visual C# Silverlight project in the official release version (not the beta or the release candidate--the official release version) of Visual Studio 2010, I get only Silverlight 3 as an option in the Silverlight Version dropdown at the New Silverlight Application dialog box. I have installed SL 4, the SL4 tools for VS 2010, to no avail. I am running Windows XP SP3. Any ideas??? Thank you, Jon

  • Visual Studio 2010 Architecture tooling

    - by Tone
Has anyone played around with the architecture tools (uml diagrams, etc) in VS 2010 and if so what is your opinion? I really am liking Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect but am also curious about what is available in VS 2010. I'm not looking for responses about how much you hate Microsoft tools or love mircosoft tools, but more for answers about how useful VS2010 arc tools are for you.

  • Word 2007 Documents in Visual Studio 2010

    - by Will Eddins
I'm currently using Visual Studio 2010 Professional, and noticed the ability to create Word 2007 and Word 2010 documents with C# code-behinds. What I'm looking to do is fill in a report-type document with information in my C# application, and then output the final .docx. Is this possible using this feature, and how do I go about doing it?

  • ETA on Smart Device Projects for Visual Studio 2010

    - by Vaccano
I really want to upgrade to Visual Studio 2010. But since I do a lot of development for the Pocket PC version of Windows Mobile I cannot. (I develop for a Symbol device that does not support Windows Phone 7, so that is not a option.) Does any one know any kind of time frame of when Microsoft plans to add support for Smart Device Projects into Visual Studio 2010

  • VS 2010 IDE 2GB limt

    - by user561732
I am using VS 2010 on a win 7 64 bit system with 8 GB of memory. My application is 32 bit. While in the VS 2010 .Net IDE, the app shows up in the Windows task manager as "MyApp.vshost.exe *32" while the VS IDE itself shows up as "devenv.exe *32". I checked and it appears that the VS 2010 IDE file (devenv.exe) is complied with the /LargeAddressAware flag. However, when debugging large models, the IDE fails with an Out of memory exception. In the Windows Task manager, the "MyApp.vshost.exe *32" process indicates about 1400 MB of memory usage (while the "devenv.exe *32" process is well under 500 MB). Is it possible to set the "MyApp.vshost.exe *32" process to be /LargeAddressAware in order to avoid this out of memory situation? If so, how can this be done in the IDE. While setting the final application binary to be /LargeAddressAware would work, I still need to be able to debug the app in the IDE with these type of large models. I should also note that my app has a deep object hierarchy with many collections that together required a lot of memory. However, my issue is not related to trying to create say 1 large array that requires greater then 2 GB of memory etc. I should note that I am able to run the same app in the VB6 IDE and not get an out of memory situation as long as the VB6 IDE is made /LargeAddressAware. In the case of VB6, the IDE and the app being debugged are part of the same process (and not split into 2 as is the case with VS 2010.) The VB6 process can be larger then 3 GB without running into out of memory issues. Ultimately, my objective is to have my app run completely in 64 bit to access more memory. I am hoping that in such cases, the IDE will allow the debugging process to exceed 2 GB without crashing (and certainly more then 1.4 GB as is the current case). However, for now, while 95% of my app is 64 bit, I am calling a legacy COM 32 bit DLL and as such, my entire app is forced to still run in 32 bit mode until I replace that DLL.

  • Proper Install Order For Visual Studio 2010 with SQL Server 2008 and Office 2007?

    - by Optimal Solutions
I want to create a Windows 7 64-bit (Ultimate) virtual machine with: Visual Studio 2010 (Ultimate) Office 2007 Enterprise (with Visio 2007) SQL Server 2008 (with SSIS and SSRS) but I am not sure if there is a correct order to install those items such that there will not be a loss of "awareness" of one application from another on that list? For example, I want to make sure Visual Studio knows that Office exists but also that Visual Studio knows that SQL Server exists but if I install SQL Server before Office will that wipe out any data access drivers that are needed by VS 2010 if Office is installed after SQL Server? There are a lot of components and I never gave it a thought that install order would matter but I have a feeling it does. Ultimately I want to create a VM that I can save and use a base development VM from which to create additional VMs from.

  • Scrum for Team Foundation Server 2010

    - by Martin Hinshelwood
I will be presenting a session on “Scrum for TFS2010” not once, but twice! If you are going to be at the Aberdeen Partner Group meeting on 27th April, or DDD Scotland on 8th May then you may be able to catch my session. Credit: I want to give special thanks to Aaron Bjork from Microsoft who provided me with most of my material He is a Scrum and Power Point genius. Updated 9th May 2010 – I have now presented at both of these sessions  and posted about it. Scrum for Team Foundation Server 2010 Synopsis Visual Studio ALM (formerly Visual Studio Team System (VSTS)) and Team Foundation Server (TFS) are the cornerstones of development on the Microsoft .NET platform. These are the best tools for a team to have successful projects and for the developers to have a focused and smooth software development process. For TFS 2010 Microsoft is heavily investing in Scrum and has already started moving some teams across to using it. Martin will not be going in depth with Scrum but you can find out more about Scrum by reading the Scrum Guide and you can even asses your Scrum knowledge by having a go at the Scrum Open Assessment. You can also read SSW’s Rules to Better Scrum using TFS which have been developed during our own Scrum implementations. Come and see Martin Hinshelwood, Visual Studio ALM MVP and Solution Architect from SSW show you: How to successfully gather requirements with User stories How to plan a project using TFS 2010 and Scrum How to work with a product backlog in TFS 2010 The right way to plan a sprint with TFS 2010 Tracking your progress The right way to use work items What you can use from the built in reporting as well as the Project portals available on from the SharePoint dashboard The important reports to give your Product Owner / Project Manager Walk away knowing how to see the project health and progress. Visual Studio ALM is designed to help address many of these traditional problems faced by teams. It does so by providing a set of integrated tools to help teams improve their software development activities and to help managers better support the software development processes. During this session we will cover the lifecycle of creating work items and how this fits into Scrum using Visual Studio ALM and Team Foundation Server. If you want to know more about how to do Scrum with TFS then there is a new course that has been created in collaboration with Microsoft and Scrum.org that is going to be the official course for working with TFS 2010. SSW has Professional Scrum Developer Trainers who specialise in training your developers in implementing Scrum with Microsoft's Visual Studio ALM tools. • Getting Current with Visual Studio 2010 for Web Developers

    - by plitwin
I don't know about you, but I find it kind of crazy at times figuring out if I have the latest of everything there is for the Visual Studio 2010 developer from Microsoft. (This does not include any third-party components, just recommended updates from Microsoft.) And the be honest, the msn.microsoft.com and asp.net sites are not that helpful in figuring this out.In an effort to help, I have enumerated here what the latest VS 2010 setup should include, complete with download links. When you install everything here, you will be able to develop ASP.NET 4.0 Web Forms and ASP.NET MVC 3 applications and web sites in addition to the other stuff your version of Visual Studio supports (e.g., Silverlight, WPF, etc.). These downloads will also include NuGet and the Entity Framework 4.1, so there is no need to download this software separately.Visual Studio 2010. First of all, you need to purchase and install Visual Studio 2010 itself. For the free Express version, you can download it from Visual Web Developer 2010 ExpressVisual Studio Service Pack 1 (released Spring 2011).This is a must-have download that fixes a bunch of bugs and a number of enhancements too including preliminary support for HTML5 and CSS3. See #4 below for better support of these web technologies. Download and install from VS 2010 SP1 download page. You can find details on the features of the service pack here. ASP.NET MVC3 Tools Update (released Spring 2011)If you are using ASP.NET MVC 3, then you should also download install this update for Visual Studio from ASP.NET MVC3 Tools Update download page. This update improves Visual Studio's support for MVC 3, including better scaffolding, NuGet, Entity Framework 4.1, and more. A good overview of the updates can be found in Phil Haack's blog post.Web Standards Update for Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 SP1 (released June 2011)This is an update to VS 2010 SP1 that "brings VS 2010 intellisense & validation as close to W3C specification as we could get via means of an extension". Download and install from Web Standards Update download page. A good description of the changes can be found in the Visual Web Developer Team blog post.Note: I don't control these download pages, so it is possible they will change. If so, I will do my best to update these links. This information was current as of June 24, 2011.
