  A simple question, but I have no concrete documentation to confirm my answer. When installing software with the make install command under a unix machine, the default path is going over to /usr/local/bin. I would like to update a package system-wide under /usr/bin. How (and where) do I change the command under make or make install to /usr/bin? Also - Can the package remain on /usr/local/bin but the systemwide usage of Python (the update being installed) be changed to /usr/local/bin from /usr/bin to avoid modifying the original installed version ?

• Copy a file from source directory to target base directory and maintain source path

  Forgive me, I am probably not using the right terms to describe the problem and misunderstanding the most basic usage for a couple of common commands. I have a simple find statement that is locating files that I want to copy. I want to tack on the -exec cp {} and have cp copy the file from the source directory to a new base directory, but include the full path. For example: "find . -name *.txt" locates /user/username/projects/source.txt "cp {} [now what?]" copies the file to /user/newuser/projects/source.txt

• ResourceFilterFactory and non-Path annotated Resources

  (I'm using Jersey 1.7) I am attempting to add a ResourceFilterFactory in my project to select which filters are used per method using annotations. The ResourceFilterFactory seems to be able to filters on Resources which are annotated with the Path annotation but it would seem that it does not attempt to generate filters for the methods of the SubResourceLocator of the resources that are called. @Path("a") public class A { //sub resource locator? @Path("b") public B getB() { return new B(); } @GET public void doGet() {} } public class B { @GET public void doOtherGet() { } @Path("c") public void doInner() { } } When ran, the Filter factory will only be called for the following: AbstractResourceMethod(A#doGet) AbstractSubResourceLocator(A#getB) When I expected it to be called for every method of the sub resource. • Exclude path from Windows 7 search?

  It's really quite incredible how bad Windows 7's search seems to be. The latest problem I have with it is that I want to search for filenames including the string "user", so I go to the directory I want to search in (C:\Users\jez\testing), type *user* in the search box, and hit enter. It gives me... every single file. Because "user" is in the path of every file, with everything being under "C:\Users..." OK, this is useless. Is there a way to just search for the string within files rather than their paths, or do I need to download some decent 3rd party search software?

• How do I set the Eclipse build path and class path from an Ant build file?

  Hey folks, There's a lot of discussion about Ant and Eclipse, but no previously answered seems to help me. Here's the deal: I am trying to build a Java program that compiles successfully with Ant from the command-line. (To confuse matters further, the program I am attempting to compile is Ant itself.) What I really want to do is to bring this project into Eclipse and have it compile in Eclipse such that the type bindings and variable bindings (nomenclature from Eclipse JDT) are correctly resolved. I need this because I need to run a static analysis on the code that is built on top of Eclipse JDT. The normal way I bring a Java project into Eclipse so that Eclipse will build it and resolve all the bindings is to just import the source directories into a Java project, and then tell it to use the src/main/ directory as a "source directory." Unfortunately, doing that with Ant causes the build to fail with numerous compile errors. It seems to me that the Ant build file is setting up the class path and build path correctly (possibly by excluding certain source files) and Eclipse does not have this information. Is there any way to take the class path & build path information embedded in an Ant build file, and given that information to Eclipse to put in its .project and .classpath files? I've tried, creating a new project from an existing build file (an option in the File menu) but this does not help. The project still has the same compile errors. Thanks, Nels

  Does any one know of any Java libraries I could use to generate canonical paths (basically remove back-references). I need something that will do the following: Raw Path - Canonical Path /../foo/ -> /foo /foo/ -> /foo /../../../ -> / /./foo/./ -> /foo //foo//bar -> /foo/bar //foo/../bar -> /bar etc... At the moment I lazily rely on using: new File("/", path).getCanonicalPath(); But this resolves the path against the actual file system, and is synchronised. java.lang.Thread.State: BLOCKED (on object monitor) at java.io.ExpiringCache.get(ExpiringCache.java:55) - waiting to lock <0x93a0d180> (a java.io.ExpiringCache) at java.io.UnixFileSystem.canonicalize(UnixFileSystem.java:137) at java.io.File.getCanonicalPath(File.java:559) The paths that I am canonicalising do not exist on my file system, so just the logic of the method will do me fine, thus not requiring any synchronisation. I'm hoping for a well tested library rather than having to write my own.

• Unable to use autossh in background even with absolute path

  I would love to set autossh to run at boot adding it to /etc/rc.local. This command works: autossh -i /root/.ssh/id_rsa -R 2522:localhost:22 user@address But, if I add the -f option autossh -f -i /root/.ssh/id_rsa -R 2522:localhost:22 user@address The ssh session is not started. • Change Apache DocumentDirectory path in trueCrypt partition

  Hello, I'm recently moving from windows to linux, so I've setup my machine to dual boot Windows7 and Ubuntu 10.04. I was able to successfully setup Apache on the Ubuntu partition, but I need to move the DocumentRoot since my websites are on a TrueCrypt partition that is in another hard drive so I can have them accessible in both OS. I followed some guides on how to change the path for the DocumentRoot so I end up modifiying the default file at /etc/apache2/sites-available DocumentRoot /media/truecrypt1/www <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None </Directory> <Directory /media/truecrypt1/www/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride None Order allow,deny allow from all </Directory> Those are the lines that I've changed, but now when I go to localhost I always get the Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server.   I am getting "ERROR: Network path was not found" when I try to create a scheduled task on my local machine. I am using this command at the command prompt: schtasks /tn taskname /tr taskpath /sc minute /mo 20 /sd 09/23/2010 /s \\%computername% /u username /p password When I give the above command without computername, username and password the task gets created perfectly fine. What am I doing wrong?? EDIT : I got it working by using the below command. I do not understand why it is working becuase I am using /ru and /rp which are remote user and remote password settings whereas I am executing the command on my local machine. And I had to give double quotes to computername. schtasks /tn taskname /tr taskpath /sc minute /mo 20 /sd 09/23/2010 /s "%computername%" /ru username /rp password

As an example: I'm looking at a particular module A.py, in it I see the line import funkyModule, I want to edit that module so I just type in the command :pyed funkyModule and the pyed vim-command automatically finds the file funkyModule.py (or funkyModule/__init__.py) where ever it occurs on the python path.   I am deploying an EAR in a WebLogic node with many jars defined in the bootstrap (startWeblogicServer.bat) class-path. The problem is that my ear and the bootstrap contain different versions of the same jars, not only that but certain jars contain extracted third party libraries which also differ in version from the WebLogic bootstrap jars causing all kinds of classpath errors. I know you can set preferred jars in the EAR application xml but, this can be very tedious to resolve with regards to jars which include extracted third party libraries in terms of understanding all the dependencies.. Is there a correct approach that i need to be taking here? Am i thinking about this in the wrong way? Any help would be greatly appreciated! So far prefer-web-inf-classes has been recommended but wont work because i'm not deploying a WAR, also prefer-application-packages is what we are currently using but still has the issue described above... Anymore advice out there?? Thanks!

  In Windows 7 (and perhaps earlier), the default "Open File" dialog box allows you to type a full URL into the "File name" section as if it were a file path, e.g. "http://www.example.com/pic.gif" instead of "C:/windows/pictures/pic.gif". When uploading a file to a website on the client side - say, an image - this allows the client to upload a picture located on a server accessible via the URL instead of downloading the image, saving it locally, then referencing the local image in the "Open File" dialog. It's a great option for Windows users. I have three separate questions: What is this procedure formally called? How do I describe this succinctly so that my searches for more information are fruitful? Can something similar be done in Mac OSX, Chromium OS, or a Linux environment? If so, how? Thanks!

  So I have an Amazon EC2 box running Windows Server 2008 with Active Directory installed on it. I also have a Windows 7 virtual machine, which is set to use the Active Directory box as its DNS and WINS server. I'm trying to join the virtual machine to the domain, and I'm asked for authentication. I give authentication, wait a minute, and I get an error saying: The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "ad.chigs.me": The network path was not found. • Valid path to deploy vm on host

  I've recently added a VM to the library in SCVMM to use with MS Test Pro 2010, and run into a problem. I cannot import it using test pro, it just won't give me any option to import in the lab manager. Also, if I try to deploy it back to the host it came from, it gives me a error saying the path is not valid. Anyone have any insight into this? Also, SCVMM seems to freeze everytime I try to create a new VM from the template of the VM I've stored in the library, the same one thats giving me the problem when I try to deploy it on to the host.   hi there, I have a problem on my server as below.. On my server i configured a raid array of 3 hard disks, in my c drive their is a web applications running on Apache Tomcat server. Now because of shortage of storage i entered a new hard disk to the server which is not a part of that raid array. Now through my web application i upload some images to new hard drive and file uploaded successfully but when through that same application, i try to retrieve those images and show on a web site i does not recognize that and dose not give any error. i try to access that drive with absolute path but it not works.   I have a find command that looks for files that was modified recently and outputs the date find /path/on/server -mtime -1 -name '*.js' -exec ls -l {} \; I would like it to exclude any deeply nested folder that matches a certain pattern e.g. there are a number of folders that have a "statistics" directory and ".svn" directories. So i'd like to be able to say if the file that was modified yesterday is in a folder named statistics ignore it. Or perhaps not search for files in those folders at all.

• "Access is denied" when copying text file to printer UNC path

  We have a new server running Server 2008 R2. We also have a "DOS-based" program that prints directly to the UNC path of a print share. With the new server, we are unable to print from this program. According to support, the program's printing works in the same way as if we were to do a "copy mytextfile.txt \\myserver\myprinter". When we try to run this command in DOS, we get "Access is denied". Support is saying that this is why the DOS program is not able to print. I have tried granting all permissions on the printer to the appropriate users (under Security of the printer properties) but that did not work. Is there a policy setting that would cause this to be denied?

System.IO.IOException: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested If I run this using a local path it works fine, in my test case the UNC path is actually pointing to the local box. Any thoughts what is going on here ?

  I have an interesting project where several "nodes" on a cnavas are connected via a Path similiar to a mindmap tree. The path is used to visualize the connection state between two nodes. Red means the nodes are disconnected, green means they're connected. The next step would be to illustrate data flow (from A to B or B to A) using that path and an animation. Basically I would want to start the animation with the data transfer and stop it when the transfer is complete. Does anyone know how this could be done in WPF?

  Normally it happens that when ever the path of the library that has to be linked dynamically is defined in LD_LIBRARY_PATH or it it will be mentioned with -L flag while creating the binary. In actual scenario if ,lets say the binary has been built and deployed at the client place. Now if there is a change in the path of one of the dynamic link library path. then we need to supply a new make file to all the clients where the binary was deployed. is there any other method where we need not tell all the clients to change their makefiles and can something can be done in the code itself? if yes...could anybody please suggest how? This was ironically an interview question that was asked to me and i didnot have the answer for it.
