    I'm making a LaTeX document for someone. A certain piece of text looks "bold" for them, even though I'm not using the \textbf command. It's just a normal default LaTeX font. Is there any command to make a 'lighter version', i.e. make the text lighter, thinner? Something that looks to normal text, what normal text looks to bold?

Will I introduce a significant performance penalty? In Objective C, is there a quicker way of assessing whether a given object instance is of certain class type? For example, is the following quicker? (I realize the test is somewhat different) if (myInstance.class == [SomeClass class]) { do something else...}

  • LINQ "table" variable

    I'm trying to turn a method I have right now into a more "generic" method that returns a string. Right now, the method uses a statement like this: var app = (from d in testContext.DAPPs where d.sserID == (Guid)user.ProviderUserKey select d).ToList(); I process the results of "app", add extra text etc. The piece that changes (that I need to make more "generic") is the table name (DAPPs). Is there a way I can do that, or, a better way to go around this all together?

  • JSF Ajax refresh issue

    In my JSF page, I have a dropdown that needs to be populated onload of the page which is set in request scope, now I have a Ajax call that refreshes a part of the page. The Ajax piece works fine but the issue is on refresh it also calls the getter for the Dropdown and returns null ( because its in request scope). To me it makes no sense to call the getter for a component that's not part of the Ajax refresh. Am I doing it correct , please suggest.

  • Why does Microsoft Windows' performance appear to degrade over time?

    Windows XP/2k3 and earlier (can't attest to Vista, but suspect it's the same) all appear to become more sluggish over time as applications are installed and uninstalled. This is not a scientifically tested observation, but more of a learned-through-experience piece of wisdom. (I've always suspected the registry as being behind the issue.) Does anyone have any concrete evidence of this degradation occurring, or it just an invalid perception of mine?

    So in my scrapy project I was able to isolate some particular fields, one of the field return something like: [Rank Info] on 2013-06-27 14:26 Read 174 Times which was selected by expression: (//td[@class="show_content"]/text())[4] I usually do post-processing to extract the datetime information, i.e., 2013-06-27 14:26 Now since I've learned a little more on the xpath substring manipulation, I am wondering if it is even possible to extract that piece of information in the first place, i.e., in the xpath expression itself?
