  • backup of KVM VM's running on Ubuntu 12.4.1 precise edition from a remote machine

    I am creating a library API which will take the backup of all the VM's running on KVM hypervisor. My VM's can be of any type. I am taking this backup from a remote machine and need to put the backup at remote server. I have KVM, Libvirt installed on my system. Some of my VM's are LVM based and some are normal VM's running on KVM. I research and found out an excellent perl script for taking the backup http://pof.eslack.org/2010/12/23/best-solution-to-fully-backup-kvm-virtual-machines/ but since I am developing this library in C++ I cannot use it however it has given me a good understanding of how it will work. One thing I didnot able to sort out is if my VM's are not created using virt-manager or are created using any other tool them virsh system list command does not give them in the list of running VM's however they are running perfectly on my KVM server. Is there a way to list these VM's in my system list anyhow? secondly, when I am taking backup from the remote machine I am getting out of my ssh mode as soon as my libvirt command finishes and for every command I need to ssh again, Is there a way that I do not need to ssh each and every time? I have already used the rsa key for ssh but when once my command finishes my control moves to the remote machine again and try to find out my source VM location in remote machine's local drives which in turn fails it. here is the main problem I am facing. also for the LVM based VM I am able to take the live backup but for non LVM based my machines are getting suspended and not been able to take the live backup. Since my library will work on the remote machine only I might not know the VM's configruation on the KVM server. so need to make it consistent for all the VM's. Please share any thing related to this issue so that I may be able to take the live backup of the non lvm vm's also. I'll update my working and any research findings time to time to all of you.   • Profiles and using the local profile for a domain user

    I’m having some trouble with profiles and would like to reach out for some help. I’ve tried to do some research to help myself along, but I’m not making much progress on my own. I’ve pretty much taken over the sys admin duties for my small lab, I don’t have much experience to justify it besides I’m the only with the time and dedication to go at it (The environment was in a state of disrepair). My network and domain I look over are extremely small by most standards, about 10 users at a time. They are pretty intensive activity on the network, and we do work with fairly large files. None of the network is online, which is nice at the moment because it allows me not to have another headache. On to my profile problem, I have set up roaming profiles for the users in the network. Now after a little research, I think I will be switching this to a hybrid of folder redirection and roaming profiles as this seems to best practice. I also don’t want the users having to wait for a long time if they have a bloated profile. Now I’ve finally got a build working using MDT. We have Mac Pros, and it wasn’t fun getting everything to play nice. The way I did this was by setting up a reference computer and installing all the software and tools that each user would need and editing the settings preferences to how we would need them. I think used MDT to do a sys prep and capture to create the image of my reference computer. Using the reference image I can push out my images to the rest of the desktops in my environment. The issue I’m having is when we join the computer to domain. The user can login and operate fine on the computer, but I’d like a more. When the user is logged on with their domain user name they lose a lot of the icons I had on my reference image, as well as the desktop background and some other miscellaneous settings. I would love to have the user log on using their domain user name and see the icons and desktop environment as I had it setup on the reference computer. I’m not sure if it is possible, or something simple that I’m missing, but any help would be greatly appreciated!

From my research there are no technical issues running both concurrently, but I am worried that the performance will be affected.   • Disable mod_cache to fix website

    I am working on a website that runs on WordPress. The an error occurs when accessing the blog page that it displays the RSS feed (in XML) rather than the posts. After some research I found out the when enabling mod_cache this error sometimes occurs. I see when looking at the apache2 modules enabled apache2ctl -M it shows that mod_cache, mod_mem_cache and mod_disc_cache are enabled. What should I disable in order to resolve this problem?

I was wondering if there is a consensus with which is better. I understand that Splunk can be quite pricey if the non-free version is used. That being said I can imagine the answer to my question will be "If you have the money use Splunk, if not use Nagios"

    I recently purchased a Acer Aspire TimelineU M5-481TG-6814, only to discover that the sound isn't working. Through my research, it seems that the most probable cause is that the onboard audio is disabled in the BIOS. However, the option to enable the onboard audio just isn't present in the BIOS.   • Blackberry device GPS hardware specs [closed]

    I'm looking to find out detailed specifications for the built-in GPS hardware in the Blackberry Bold and Curve devices (9000 and 8350). RIM's documentation includes just a rudimentary description of the specs, but I'm looking for things like the actual detailed hardware/chipset info so we can research the accuracy needs for some upcoming projects we have. Knowing simply "A-GPS support" isn't really good enough... Does anyone know of any resources for finding advanced specs for built-in Blackberry hardware?

  • Default soundcard per application in Vista?

    I use a USB headset during the day, then at night I use my speakers to watch video. I constantly have to use the windows playback list to change the default soundcard before I run the program I want. I did some google research but it doesn't seem to help much, mostly because of false positives. I tried to use "Sound Card Manager" but it didn't seem to work properly. Has anyone had any sucess dealing with the Vista sound system?

    In my VPS (Hypervm/CENTOS 5.8 i686 virtuozzo) I need to add IP bans with comments ( http://spamcleaner.org/en/misc/iptables-comment.html ) When I type: iptables -A INPUT -s 222.111.111.111 -j DROP -m comment --comment "spammer123" I receive: iptables: Unknown error 4294967295 I research almost 2 hours but i find nothing, someone says "its a bug and you have to rebuild kernel!?" Does anyone know a solution or a different method for adding a comment or note ?

  • MediaContextNotificatioNWindow Error Occurs When Trying to Shutdown Windows XP

    I am working with a Windows XP laptop that whenever it is shutdown will display a warning that the "MediaContextNotificationWindow" is attempting to close, eventually requiring you to force it to close. It does not appear to matter if the laptop is on or off the network, it will still display the message. I have done a little research into the MediaContextNotificationWindow, and it seems like it is either a part of the Windows Media Player or .Net 3.5, though I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone come across this error and know how to resolve it?

    I have the ability to get .wav files of voice mails emailed to me, but sometimes I'll be sitting in a meeting and I need to know the content of a message without playing it out loud. Are there any good (and, preferably, free) tools for converting .wav files to text? I know Google Voice has this capability, but I can't determine if it'll work on a file-by-file basis. I realize that this is a difficult research problem, but even an 80% solution might be workable.

    I'm trying to bootstrap a windows 2008 R2 Server with chef and i'm receiving this error :"CScript Error: Execution of the Windows Script Host failed. (0x800A0007)". After some research i find out that i must install the "specific_install" gem and use Knife-windows gem from git but when i'm trying to install gem with this command "gem specific_install -l https://github.com/opscode/knife-windows.git" i'm receiving the following error : "ERROR: While executing gem ... (NoMethodError) undefined method `build' for Gem::Package:Module" What am i doing wrog? Thank you in advance

I managed to search the LDAP contacts from MS Outlook 2007 (with some drawbacks like Outlook cant recognize street and organization fields). My question is, is it possible ,& how, to sync data on LDAP server with applications that support LDAP? I could not find any data on this topic.

  • SYSTEM hive of the register is causing computer to BSOD on boot

    After some work on my computer, perhaps some updates installs, it didn't boot anymore. BSOD on windows logo loading. After some research I've found out that if I replace the SYSTEM hive of the register with the last backup it boots ok, but of course goes back to an old stage of machine setup. So my question is: where does register stores hardware and/or updates/software that loads in the machine boot, so that I can check which program is producing that BSOD and disable it? System is Win 7 64 bits SP1

  • Cannot create Hyper-V Virtual Machine - General Access Denied 0x80070005

    I have the standalone Hyper-V Server 2012 running and I'm trying to create the first VM on it but I'm getting the following error: From my research, this error comes up with something related to the Intel IPMI driver but I have an Asus motherboard so I didn't think it was the problem. However, I ran the ResetAccess.exe fix anyways and to no surprise it said something like "This version of Windows does not require this fix". Thank you

    Hi, I've done a far bit of research on this via Google and there seems to be quite a few ways of possibly doing this. I'm looking to incrementally backup new and updated files in two directories on my Plesk run Centos 5.2 server: /backups and /var/www/vhosts (preferable only httdocs within each vhost) Has anyone got some great feedback from using the various solutions - seems to be various Java, Perl and Ruby based solutions out there. I thought SQL had clustering built in, but after doing research, it looks like you first have to install Windows clustering and then install SQL on top of that.
