• How do I get a hold of the Reply-To header and remunge it in postfix

  I have a legacy application that emails via php. 5% of the emails aren't going through. The solution is to route all email through a fancy verified mail server like Amazon's SES. I am having some trouble implementing this functionality. It seems this guy had a similar problem. My question is where in postfix can I set a filter that will take as input the the message headers, so that I can manually set the From field and the Reply-To field to [email protected] and [email protected], respectively. Where whatever_php_wants is dictated by the php program and the users registration email. I know where to set the noreply portion, but I don't know the exact place in postfix's configuration files where I can intercept complete emails and pass them to a script. Edit So I want emails to look like: FROM: [email protected] REPLY-TO: the_users_address@their_email_service.com

  I have set my auditd rules to log when the system time is changed However, our servers are VMs and thus have problems with the time drifting out. We needed to solve this issue so we used a VMware tool to regularly synchronize the time. • Email solution for new domain [on hold]

  I registered my domain at NameCheap, and have it hosted now at AWS Route 53. However, I'm at a loss for how now to set up sending transactional email. I hear Amazon SES is a good solution, but that requires me to verify my e-mail. I don't have email set up (no e-mail addresses at my domain nor a email client to receive the email verification). As an added wrinkle, I have my sitename.com bucket redirecting to www.sitename.com, and I'm hosting my site on Route 53 using www.sitename.com. However, does this screw things up if I need to switch my MX records since perhaps the 'www' throws things off (would it point to mail.www.sitename.com)?

• CentOS - Add additional hard drive raid arrays on Dell Perc 5/i card

  We have a Dell Poweredge 2900 system with Dell Perc 5/i card and 4 SAS hard drives attached, with NTFS partitions on them. We installed CentOS on one raid array on this controller with a different controller and it is working fine. We are now trying to access the drives shown above and they are not being shown in /dev as sdb, etc. sda is the drive that we installed centos on and it has sda1, sda2, sda3, etc. The CDROM has been picked up as well. If I scan for scsi devices then the perc and adaptec controllers are both found. sg0 is the CDROM and sg2 is the centos installed, however I think sg1 is the other drive but I cannot see anyway to mount the partitions, as only the drive is listed in /dev. • You may be tempted by IaaS, but you should PaaS on that or your database cloud journey will be a short one

  Before we examine Consolidation, the next step in the journey to cloud, let's take a short detour to address a critical choice you will face at the outset of your journey: whether to deploy your databases in virtual machines or not. A common misconception we've encountered is the belief that moving to cloud computing can be accomplished by simply hosting one's current operating environment as-is within virtual machines, and then stacking those VMs together in a consolidated environment.  This solution is often described as "Infrastructure as a Service" (IaaS) because the building block for deployments is a VM, which behaves like a full complement of infrastructure.  This approach is easy to understand and may feel like a good first step, but it won't take your databases very far in the journey to cloud computing.  In fact, if you follow the IaaS fork in the road, your journey will end quickly, without realizing the full benefits of cloud computing.  The better option to is to rationalize the deployment stack so that VMs are needed only for exceptional cases.  By settling on a standard operating system and patch level, you create an infrastructure that potentially all of your databases can share.  Now, the building block will be database instances or possibly schemas within databases.  These components are the platforms on which you will deploy workloads, hence this is known as "Platform as a Service" (PaaS). PaaS opens the door to higher degrees of consolidation than IaaS, because with PaaS you will not need to accommodate the footprint (operating system, hypervisor, processes, ...) that each VM brings with it.  You will also reduce your maintenance overheard if you move forward without the VMs and their O/Ses to patch and monitor.  So while IaaS simply shuffles complex and varied environments into VMs,  PaaS actually reduces complexity by rationalizing to the small possible set of components.  Now we're ready to look at the consolidation options that PaaS provides -- in our next blog posting.

• Fresh install of 64 bit 12.04 over 32 bit 11.10 alongside Windows 7

  I currently have Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit and Windows 7 dual boot in separate partitions. I am trying to do a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit (mistakenly installed the 32 bit 11.10 a little while ago.. I need a 64 bit version to support AOSP build) OVER my the exisiting 11.10 partition. I have referenced How to Install fresh 12.04 install to a PC with dual booting Windows 7 & Ubuntu11.10?, as well as other posts on using the Live CD to do a fresh install. However, the problem I am experiencing is when I bring up the install screen, it says the following: This computer has multiple operating systems on it. What would you like to do. (3 options) Install Ubuntu 12.04 alongside them Replace all with Ubuntu 12.04 (Warning, this will delete files across ALL operating systems) Something else (you can create or resize partitions yourself) This is different from what is in other posts, as mine states that there are "multiple O.Ses" and doesnt individually allow me to replace the Ubuntu 11.10. I don't want to replace ALL O.S.es: I need to preserve Windows 7 and am only trying to replace the old Ubuntu 11.10 partition with the new 12.04 64 bit. I did have Ubuntu installed via Wubi (I believe it was 10.04) prior to putting 11.10 in a separate partition, but I have removed it via Add/Remove programs in Windows. I was wondering how to go about doing this... Should I use the "Something else" option to bring up the partition manager, and just assign my existing 11.10 partition with root mount point + swap space. Will this do the same thing by overwriting with fresh 12.04 install?? I appreciate all your help.

• How should I handle pages that move to a new url with regards to search engines?

  Hi all, I have done some refactoring on a asp.net mvc application already deployed to a live web site. Among the refactoring was moving functionality to a new controller, causing some urls to change. Shortly after the various search engine robots start hammering the old urls. What is the right way to handle this in general? Ignore it? In time the SEs should find out that they get nothing but 400 from the old urls. Block old urls with robots.txt? Continue to catch the old urls, then redirect to new ones? Users navigating the site would never get the redirection as the urls are updated through-out the new version of the site. I see it as garbage code - unless it could be handled by some fancy routing? Other? As always, all comments welcome... Thanks, Anders, Denmark

It fetches a url that returns json and the function is then supposed to return a string: function getit() { var ws_url = 'example.com/test.js'; var user = false; $.getJSON(ws_url, function(data) { alert('user '+data.user);//shows john user = data.user || false; } ); return user;//should return john but returns false } test.js will have something like this: {"id":"12","username":"ses","user":"john","error":""} or like this: {"error":"123"} I also tried if(data.user){}else{} but it didn't work either.. • Slowdown upon router/modem setup change

  I’ve been using a Belkin FSD7632-4 modem router to connect to my TalkTalk provided ADSL internet connection for some time and been pretty happy with it. Recently, however, the connection has been failing and I decided to get a ASUS RT-N16 instead, which is also a much more capable router generally. The ASUS RT-N16 doesn’t come with a modem built-in so I purchased as Zoom modem as well. I’ve set them both up and am using them to post this message. But I’m a bit miffed to find that I get a significantly and consistently slower downstream rate from the new configuration than with the old Belkin. Belkin modem router: downstream: 3.45 mbps upstream: 0.73 mbps ASUS router + Zoom modem: downstream: 2.71 mbps upstream: 0.66 mbps Any ideas why this is? The really weird thing about this is that the Zoom supports ADSL2 and ADSL2+ but I don’t think the old Belkin does. At first I thought it might be due to the Zoom modem being limited to PPPoE instead of PPPoA, which my ISP supports, but then I tried using PPPoE with the Belkin and that still gave a high speed. I’m using VC-Mux encapsulation with both. VPI of 0 and VCI of 38. • SELinux - Allow multiple services access to same /home/dir

  I currently have SELinux enabled and have been able to configure apache to allow access to /home/src/web with a chcon command granting the 'httpd_sys_content_t' type. But now I am trying to serve the rsyslogd.conf file from the same directory, but every time I start rsyslogd I see an entry in my audit log saying that rsyslogd was denied access. My question is, is it possible to grant two applications the ability to access the same directory, while still keeping SELinux enabled? • Audit file removal (auditctl)

  For some reason, some script or program is removing a pid file for the service on the linux server (centos5.4 / 2.6.18-308.4.1.el5xen). I suspect a faulty cron script, but manual investigation did not lead me to it. And i still want to track it down. Imagine a cron script deleting the file. So i need some way to expand/add audit rule(s) to be able to trace the parents of the /bin/rm at the time of removal. I have been thinking to add some rule to monitor all process creation, something like: auditctl -a task,always But this happen to be very resource intensive. So i need help or advice how to combine these rules, or how to expand any of the rules to help track the script/program. Thanks.

• LSI 9285-8e and Supermicro SC837E26-RJBOD1 duplicate enclosure ID and slot numbers

  I am working with 2 x Supermicro SC837E26-RJBOD1 chassis connected to a single LSI 9285-8e card in a Supermicro 1U host. There are 28 drives in each chassis for a total of 56 drives in 28 RAID1 mirrors. The problem I am running in to is that there are duplicate slots for the 2 chassis (the slots list twice and only go from 0 to 27). All the drives also show the same enclosure ID (ID 36). However, MegaCLI -encinfo lists the 2 enclosures correctly (ID 36 and ID 65). My question is, why would this happen? Is there an option I am missing to use 2 enclosures effectively? This is blocking me rebuilding a drive that failed in slot 11 since I can only specify enclosure and slot as parameters to replace a drive. When I do this, it picks the wrong slot 11 (device ID 46 instead of device ID 19). Adapter #1 is the LSI 9285-8e, adapter #0 (which I removed due to space limitations) is the onboard LSI. After getting in contact with a very knowledgeable Supermicro tech, they provided us with a tool called Xflash (doesn't appear to be readily available on their FTP). The first 2 enclosures logical ID is partially masked out where the 3rd one (which has a correct unique enclosure ID) is not. We pointed this out to Supermicro and were able to confirm that this address is supposed to be set during manufacturing and there was a problem with a certain batch of these enclosures where the logical ID was not set. We believe that the RAID controller is determining the ID based on the logical ID and since our first 2 enclosures have the same logical ID, they get the same enclosure ID. We also confirmed that 0000007F is the default which comes from LSI as an ID. The next pointer that helps confirm this could be a manufacturing problem with a run of JBODs is the fact that all 6 of the enclosures that have this problem begin with 00E. I believe that between 00E8 and 00EE Supermicro forgot to program the logical IDs correctly and neglected to recall or fix the problem post production. Fortunately for us, there is a tool to manage the WWN and logical ID of the devices from Supermicro: ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/utility/ExpanderXtools_Lite/. Our next step is to schedule a shutdown of these JBODs (after data migration) and reprogram the logical ID and see if it solves the problem. Update 06/28/12 #2: I just discovered this FAQ at Supermicro while Google searching for "lsi 0000007f": http://www.supermicro.com/support/faqs/faq.cfm?faq=11805. I still don't understand why, in the last several times we contacted Supermicro, they would have never directed us to this article :\

• iiR Hospital Digital 2011: Tras la historia digital ¿qué?

  Como el acceso a la documentación está restringido, sólo voy a comentar por encima algunos temas o planteamientos que me han llamado la atención del VI Foro Hospital Digital 2011, organizado por iiR. Y comienzo destacando la buena moderación de Maribel Grau del Hospital Clínic de Barcelona que estuvo sobria, eficaz y motivadora del debate. Me impresionó el proyecto Hospital Líquido del Hospital San Joan de Deu de Barcelona por el compromiso corporativo con una medicina colaborativa involucrando a los pacientes y a los profesionales, con unas iniciativas de eSalud y Salud2.0 avanzadas y apoyadas en un buen soporte legal, tecnológico, de los profesionales y con procesos bien definidos. Es un tema corporativo y no una prueba, como bien explicó Jorge Juan Fernández y detalló después Júlia Cutillas, cuyo rol, por cierto, es de Community Manager. En el debate salió el tema del retorno de la inversión y ese es un tema inmaduro, ya que es difícil de encontrar métricas adecuadas, pero no dudan de su continuidad ya que forma parte de una estrategia corporativa, en la que siempre hay elementos que forman parte de los costes generales y que se consideran necesarios para prestar el nivel de servicio que se desea ofrecer. Cecilia Pérez desde su posición como Jefe de Implantación de HCE en el Hospital de Móstoles hizo énfasis en la importancia de la gestión efectiva del cambio cuando se implanta un sistema de historia clínica electrónica que pasa por una inicial negación de los usarios al cambio, que luego presentan una resistencia al prinicipio para luego empezar a explorar posibilidades y llegar a un compromiso con el cambio. Santiago Borrás, Jefe de Sistemas del Hospital del Henares, partió de un hospital digital, pero eso no es más que el comienzo. Tras tres años la frustración de los profesionales es no perderse entre demasiada información. La etapa necesaria tras la digitalición es la generación y compartición del cononocimiento. Cristina Ibarrola, Directora de Atención Primaria del SNS-O comentó la experiencia de las interconsultas primaria-especializada que reducen la carga asistencial en primaria al aumentar la resolución. Hay una reserva de tiempos específicos en las agendas de los profesionales de ambos lados para garantizar una respuesta en un máximo de 48 horas. Eso ha llevado a una flexibiliazación de la agenda de los médicos de primaria que tienen un 25% más de tiempo para las consultas presenciales. Parece que aquí la opción tomada es dar más tiempo por paciente en vez de más pacientes, supongo que en parte porque la presión asistencial en Navarra tengo entendido que no es tan fuerte como en otras zonas. Alejandra Cubero comentó la experiencia de identificación de pacientes y de inteoperabilidad en Hospitales de Madrid. Ana Rosa Pulido presentó los logros del SES y su proyecto actual de Imagen Médica No Radiológica. Richard Bernat explicó la experiencia de HCE de Salud de la Mujer Dexeus, indicando que si bien no hay métricas del retorno de la inversión, sí hay una percepción del valor por las diferentes direcciones. Arturo Quesada glosó la experiencia de Jimena en el Hospital de Ávila, Joan Chafer desgranó el arduo proceso de introducción de sucesivas soluciones digitales en el Hospital Clínico San Carlos de Madrid comenzando por “Hogar Digital”, todo ello con financiación externa o recursos propios y cerró el turno de intervenciones no comerciales Pedro A. Bonal que presentó el valor de los eDocs dentro del Complejo (aplicado en sus dos acepciones de conjunto y complicado) Hospitalario de Toledo como tránsito a la HCE plenamente digital. Tweet
