    Source Browsing in FireFox Just casually observed this a few minutes back with my Mozilla Firefox 3.6.3. When you do a view source of any  page in Internet Explorer it just renders as editable inoperative HTML. However in Firefox the hyperlinks are shown clickable and active. When you click on any hyperlink the most obvious and expected output would be that the target page would appear in one of the new tab in the parent browser. However the View Source window refreshed with the HTML source of the new page. I believe this gesture of Firefox would help us to take a journey back into Lynx Text Browsing in a way.

  • "Error in the Site Data Web Service." when performing crawl

    Installed SharePoint Services v3 (SP2, october 2009 cumulative updates, Language Pack), attached to a content database I had previously (all works). Installed Search server 2008 Express (with language pack) on top of WSS and crawl does not work. However it works for newly created web application + database. Was playing around with accounts, permissions to try get it working. Currently I have WSS_Crawler account with such permissions: Office Search Server runs with WSS_Crawler account Config database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler Content database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler WSS_Crawler is owner of search database. Added WSS_Crawler to SQL server browser user group and administrator Yes, i'v given more permissions than needed, but it doesn't even work with that and i don't know if its permission problem or what. Crawl log says there is Error in the Site Data Web Service., nothing more. There were known issues with a similar error: Error in the Site Data Web Service. (Value does not fall within the expected range.), but this is not the case as thats an old issue and i hope it has been included in SP2... Logs are from olders to newest (descending order). They don't appear to be very helpful.   • Does visual source safe take .cvsignore as configuration ?

    An easy way to tell CVS to ignore these directories is to create a file named .cvsignore (note the leading period) in your top-level source directory Has anyone verified this with vss? Plus,does vss have these similar command lines: * To refresh the state of your source code to that stored in the the source repository, go to your project source directory, and execute cvs update -dP. * When you create a new subdirectory in the source code hierarchy, register it in CVS with a command like cvs add {subdirname}. * When you first create a new source code file, navigate to the directory that contains it, and register the new file with a command like cvs add {filename}. * If you no longer need a particular source code file, navigate to the containing directory and remove the file. Then, deregister it in CVS with a command like cvs remove {filename}. * While you are creating, modifying, and deleting source files, changes are not yet reflected in the server repository. To save your changes in their current state, go to the project source directory and execute cvs commit. You will be asked to write a brief description of the changes you have just completed, which will be stored with the new version of any updated source file.

  • Sharepoint insists it knows the link to my UNC and won't let me remove hyperlink formatting

    We have a file share at work (one I do not have the power to rename) and it contains a space in it: \\WorkFileShare\Visual Studio\SP1 I'm creating a Wiki Entry that informs users they can locate the VS2010 SP1 download on this Share. For some reason, SharePoint will highlight and hyperlink the UNC up to the space. (I've been dealing with this behavior for years in Outlook and I fix by putting focus on the character before the space and then hitting backspace to remove the formatting). Simple enough and SharePoint also removes the formatting when you backspace on the character before the space. However, as soon as I move away from the link, SharePoint goes right back to highlighting and hyperlinking what it thinks is the UNC. Naughty Sharepoint!! So does anyone have any idea how to clear the formatting? NOTE: Highlighting the text and clicking on the "Clear Format" icon does not work.

Now the original is lost, and reconverting to Word using a PDF to word add-on from Microsoft results in many text boxes in the new DOC file. How can I 'flatten' this to remove the text boxes and retain most of the formatting in order to update the contents? Recreating the original formatting would take a long time.

  • VS2010 Text Editor: How do I set the default formatting style for inline code blocks?

    I've got a problem with the formatting of inline code blocks within the VS2010 text editor and wonder if anyone else has had similar problems and found the 'magic' setting I'm looking for. I'm working my way through tutorials in an MVC book. Whenever I add some inline code blocks to a view I want them formatted like so: <% foreach (var link in Model) { %> <a href="<%=Url.RouteUrl(link.RouteValues)%>"> <%=link.Text%> </a> <% } %> What I'm actually getting is this (auto-formatted by the IDE when I finish writing the code): <% foreach (var link in Model) { %> <a href="<%=Url.RouteUrl(link.RouteValues)%>"> <%=link.Text%> </a> <% } %> It's pretty irritating. Any ideas on how I can instruct the IDE to leave my <% % tags alone? I've been fiddling with options under "Tools - Options - Text Editor" for ages but alas am getting nowhere...

  • SQL Server devs–what source control system do you use, if any? (answer and maybe win free stuff)

    Recently I noticed a tweet from notable SQL Server author and community dude-at-large Steve Jones in which he asked how many SQL Server developers were putting their SQL Server source code (i.e. DDL) under source control (I’m paraphrasing because I can’t remember the exact tweet and Twitter’s search functionality is useless). The question surprised me slightly as I thought a more pertinent question would be “how many SQL Server developers are not using source control?” because I have been doing just that for many years now and I simply assumed that use of source control is a given in this day and age. Then I started thinking about it. “Perhaps I’m wrong” I pondered, “perhaps the SQL Server folks that do use source control in their day-to-day jobs are in the minority”. So, dear reader, I’m interested to know a little bit more about your use of source control. Are you putting your SQL Server code into a source control system? If so, what source control server software (e.g. TFS, Git, SVN, Mercurial, SourceSafe, Perforce) are you using? What source control client software are you using (e.g. TFS Team Explorer, Tortoise, Red Gate SQL Source Control, Red Gate SQL Connect, Git Bash, etc…)? Why did you make those particular software choices? Any interesting anecdotes to share in regard to your use of source control and SQL Server? To encourage you to contribute I have five pairs of licenses for Red Gate SQL Source Control and Red Gate SQL Connect to give away to what I consider to be the five best replies (“best” is totally subjective of course but this is my blog so my decision is final ), if you want to be considered don’t forget to leave contact details; email address, Twitter handle or similar will do. To start you off and to perhaps get the brain cells whirring, here are my answers to the questions above: Are you putting your SQL Server code into a source control system? As I think I’ve already said…yes. Always. If so, what source control server software (e.g. TFS, Git, SVN, Mercurial, SourceSafe, Perforce) are you using? I move around a lot between many clients so it changes on a fairly regular basis; my current client uses Team Foundation Server (aka TFS) and as part of a separate project is trialing the use of Team Foundation Service. I have used SVN extensively in the past which I am a fan of (I generally prefer it to TFS) and am trying to get my head around Git by using it for ObjectStorageHelper. What source control client software are you using (e.g. TFS Team Explorer, Tortoise, Red Gate SQL Source Control, Red Gate SQL Connect, Git Bash, etc…)? On my current project, Team Explorer. In the past I have used Tortoise to connect to SVN. Why did you make those particular software choices? I generally use whatever the client uses and given that I work with SQL Server I find that the majority of my clients use TFS, I guess simply because they are Microsoft development shops. Any interesting anecdotes to share in regard to your use of source control and SQL Server? Not an anecdote as such but I am going to share some frustrations about TFS. In many ways TFS is a great product because it integrates many separate functions (source control, work item tracking, build agents) into one whole and I’m firmly of the opinion that that is a good thing if for no reason other than being able to associate your check-ins with a work-item. However, like many people there are aspects to TFS source control that annoy me day-in, day-out. Chief among them has to be the fact that it uses a file’s read-only property to determine if a file should be checked-out or not and, if it determines that it should, it will happily do that check-out on your behalf without you even asking it to. I didn’t realise how ridiculous this was until I first used SVN about three years ago – with SVN you make any changes you wish and then use your source control client to determine which files have changed and thus be checked-in; the notion of “check-out” doesn’t even exist. That sounds like a small thing but you don’t realise how liberating it is until you actually start working that way. Hoping to hear some more anecdotes and opinions in the comments.   • Why can't I set the Image Source in WPF app?

    I'm just learning WPF. I'm using VS 2008. I've added an Image control to my XAML, and I added a GIF file to the project. If I use the XAML Designer's property panel to set the image's Source property, the drop-down list for the Source property contains the following: C:\Sample Project;component/pinHorizontal.gif There are several problems with this: My project, named "Sample Project," is not in the root of my drive. Why is ";component" in there? If I select this value as given, I get the error "Property value is not valid" (yeah, no kidding). If I go into the XAML source and set the Source property manually, like so: The XAML Designer gives me this error: "The file pinHorizontal.gif is not part of the project or its 'Build Action' property is not set to 'Resource'." Why is this task so difficult? How do I assign an image source?

  • What should I really release as open source when I use Berkeley DB (JE)?

    The Berkeley DB (JE) license information says: "...Redistributions in any form must be accompanied by information on how to obtain complete source code for the DB software and any accompanying software that uses the DB software.... For an executable file, complete source code means the source code for all modules it contains. It does not include source code for modules or files that typically accompany the major components of the operating system on which the executable file runs." If I build an abstraction level on top of BDB JE, should I open source only that library or any software that uses BDB JE indirectly?
