  • Bash PS1 settings - how to get the current folder back as the terminal title

    Hi all. I recently added these lines to my ~/.bashrc file to show the current branch if i'm in a git working folder, and it works nicely for that. However, what i've lost is that the current folder name used to be shown in the tab for the terminal i have open, and now it isn't: it always just says 'Terminal'. Can i get that back and still keep the git stuff? Here's the lines in question - it's the second one that's the issue, as commenting out just the second line fixes the problem. source /etc/bash_completion.d/git PS1='\h:\w$(__git_ps1 "\[\e[32m\][%s]\[\e[0m\]")$ ' I've been looking at explanations of the options for PS1 but can't see anything about the terminal window's title in there.     How can I install and setup a fortinet SSL VPN client on a VPS that's running on Centos? I have problem to do it because all guide I have are all using GUI which is not installed on the VPS to save resource.   • How do I remove the on screen keyboard from the logon screen in Windows Remote Desktop Server 2008 R

    The on screen keyboard (OSK) from the "ease of access" tools pops up on EVERY connect to the server, even if you have not activated it. I can't seem to find a control panel or reg setting to switch it off. It is VERY "in your face" for linux users who connect at lower resolutions and do not provide all credentials, but have to type username and password. I'm running a 2008 R2 Terminal Server/Remote Desktop Server.

    We have a Windows 2008 (R2) Terminal Server environment and would like to find a way to automate the addition (Pinning) of programs to the Windows taskbar for our users. My first thought was to do this from a Group Policy, but haven't been able to find a setting for this. I've heard you can 'probably' do it via a script, but haven't seen any examples yet (I'm not a programmer, but have worked with batch scripts before). Please advice. Thanks!

There are a few editors, joe, nano, etc. Some have easy to remember commands / keyboard shortcuts, others don't. I'm looking for an editor that one could talk someone through over the phone with, for remote sysadminning.

I have all necessary strings in /etc/paths /usr/bin /bin /usr/sbin /sbin /usr/local/bin in ~/.bash_profile export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/mysql/bin export PATH=$PATH:$HOME/.rvm/bin export PATH="$(brew --prefix php54)/bin:$PATH" export PATH="$(brew --prefix)/bin:$PATH" But every time I execute echo $PATH in terminal, I get only /usr/local/bin if I put .bash_profile strings to .profile or .bashrc I have no effect.

    With URxvt and xterm it is possible to use a virtual terminal supporting 256 colors instead of only eight. Since my Intel GMA graphics card is well-supported by the KMS framebuffer driver, I am exclusively working on the TTY. Unfortunately it only supports eight colors although with MPlayer (-vo fbdev/fbdev2) and other framebuffer tools far more can be addressed. Is there a way to tell the TTY to use more than eight colors?

  • Can files deleted with rm -rf be recovered?

    When I delete folders or files in through osx terminal using the rm -rf, where do they go? I heard that some say they are deleted directly, but some also say it only "remove the link to the file making it unable to be found or accessed without special tools" (http://superuser.com/questions/370786/where-do-files-and-directories-go-when-i-run-rm-rf-folder-or-file-name-in-ubu). Someone said something about ext3 being able to save rm-ed files in ubuntu but what about mac?

  • tmux and screen-256 TERM not supported on remote hosts

    I have set up my tmux to use screen-256colors and it works great with vim. However, when I ssh to a remote host from within tmux, screen-256colors isn't recognized, so I'm getting errors like this: E558: Terminal entry not found in terminfo 'screen-256color' not known. Available builtin terminals are: builtin_ansi builtin_xterm builtin_iris-ansi builtin_dumb defaulting to 'ansi' Other than editing each remote .bashrc (similarly to this suggestion), is there any way to set the TERM correctly and automatically on the remote host?

    Both less -r (preserve terminal control sequences) and less -S (chop long lines) work well alone. But using them together breaks things. It chops too late and it wrecks the next line. Reducing COLUMNS environment variable is no op: (man less) But if you have a windowing system which supports TIOCGWINSZ or WIOCGETD, the window system's idea of the screen size takes precedence over the LINES and COLUMNS environment variables.   • ssh sessions in xterms freeze for many minutes whenever they disconnect

    If I ssh to a remote machine and then lose internet connectivity, the session freezes. I can't control-c or otherwise abort and go back to my local xterm or terminal prompt but if I wait several minutes it will do so. There must be some way to force it to abort the remote ssh session when connectivity is lost. I'm on a Mac but I believe this happens on cygwin or linux as well.
