  • outgoing DNS flood targeted to non-ISP hosts

    - by radudani
    Below is the specific traffic monitored at the network perimeter and originating from a user PC on Vista platform. My question is not about the effects of the flood, but about the nature of the source of it. Is this some known infection, or just an application went out of control? a standard NOD32 scan didn't find anything, as the user told me. Thank you for any hint. 14:40:10.115876 IP 192.168.7.42.4122 > 67.228.0.181.53: S 2742536765:2742536765(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.115943 IP 192.168.7.42.4124 > 67.228.181.207.53: S 3071079888:3071079888(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116015 IP 192.168.7.42.4126 > 67.228.0.181.53: S 3445199428:3445199428(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116086 IP 192.168.7.42.4128 > 67.228.181.207.53: S 2053198691:2053198691(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116154 IP 192.168.7.42.4130 > 67.228.0.181.53: S 2841660872:2841660872(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116222 IP 192.168.7.42.4132 > 67.228.181.207.53: S 3150822465:3150822465(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116290 IP 192.168.7.42.4134 > 67.228.0.181.53: S 1692515021:1692515021(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116358 IP 192.168.7.42.4136 > 67.228.181.207.53: S 3358275919:3358275919(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116430 IP 192.168.7.42.4138 > 67.228.0.181.53: S 930184999:930184999(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116498 IP 192.168.7.42.4140 > 67.228.181.207.53: S 1504984630:1504984630(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116566 IP 192.168.7.42.4142 > 67.228.0.181.53: S 546074424:546074424(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116634 IP 192.168.7.42.4144 > 67.228.181.207.53: S 4241828590:4241828590(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116702 IP 192.168.7.42.4146 > 67.228.0.181.53: S 668634627:668634627(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.116769 IP 192.168.7.42.4148 > 67.228.181.207.53: S 3768119461:3768119461(0) win 16384 <mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK> 14:40:10.117360 IP 192.168.7.42.4111 > 67.228.0.181.53: 12676 op8 Resp12*- [2128q][|domain] 14:40:10.117932 IP 192.168.7.42.4112 > 67.228.181.207.53: 44190 op7 NotAuth*|$ [29103q],[|domain] 14:40:10.118726 IP 192.168.7.42.4113 > 67.228.0.181.53: 49196 inv_q [b2&3=0xeea] [64081q] [28317a] [43054n] [23433au] Type63482 (Class 5889)? • Can't capture https traffic with Fiddler and Firefox (works with IE)

    - by Tony_Henrich
I am trying to debug an asp.net app using Firefox. Firefox tries to connect to https://www.paypal.com and I get "Secure Connection Failed" error (Error code: sec_error_bad_signature). I installed Fiddler's cert in Firefox and the local computer and current user Cert stores. I set up the manual proxy in FF to 127.0.0.1 and port 8888 and for all protocols. Fiddler captures http traffic but gives an error with https traffic. Fiddler captures https from IE fine. What's the problem? (Is FiddlerHook FF extension needed and what setting should it be using: auto, disabled or Force traffic to Fiddler?)

  • SMB2 traffic crashes network?

    - by Phil Cross
We've been having significant network slowdown issues over the past few weeks, primarily on a Friday morning. We run Windows 7 client machines, with Windows Server 2008 R2 servers. What generally happens is the network starts to slow down massively at 08:55 and resumes normal speeds at around 09:20 This affects everything on the network from logging on, resetting passwords, opening programs and files etc. On my client machine, Physical Memory usage remains at around 40% (normal) and CPU usage hovers around 0-10% idle. The servers show memory usage spikes massively and remains quite intense during the times mentioned above. I have taken several wireshark captures, both during the slowdown and when the network operates fine. One of the main things I noticed is the increase in SMB2 entries in the wireshark log during the slowdown. Record Time Source Destination Protocol Length Info 382 3.976460000 10.47.35.11 10.47.32.3 SMB2 362 Create Request File: pcross\My Documents 413 4.525047000 10.47.35.11 10.47.32.3 SMB2 146 Close Request File: pcross\My Documents 441 5.235927000 10.47.32.3 10.47.35.11 SMB2 298 Create Response File: pcross\My Documents\Downloads 442 5.236199000 10.47.35.11 10.47.32.3 SMB2 260 Find Request File: pcross\My Documents\Downloads SMB2_FIND_ID_BOTH_DIRECTORY_INFO Pattern: *;Find Request File: pcross\My Documents\Downloads SMB2_FIND_ID_BOTH_DIRECTORY_INFO Pattern: * 573 6.327634000 10.47.35.11 10.47.32.3 SMB2 146 Close Request File: pcross\My Documents\Downloads 703 7.664186000 10.47.35.11 10.47.32.3 SMB2 394 Create Request File: pcross\My Documents\Downloads\WestlandsProspectus\P24 __ P21.pdf These are some of the SMB2 records from a list of a couple of hundred which original from my computer with a destination of the fileserver. One of the interesting things to note is the last entry in the examples above is for a PDF file. That file was not open anywhere on my computer, or on anyone elses. No folders with the files in were open either. When I took another capture when the network was running fine, there were hardly any SMB2 entries, and the ones that were displayed were mainly from Wireshark. We currently have around 800 computers, 90 Macs and 200 Laptops and Netbooks. Our concern is if this traffic is happening on my computer, is it happening on other computers, and if so, would those computers be adding to the slow network issues? Again, this only happens during certain times. We're pretty sure its not the our antivirus. Is there anything to narrow down whats initializing this SMB traffic during the particular times? Or if anyone has any extra advice, or links to resources it would be appreciate.

  • Creating static NAT blocks outbound traffic Cisco ASA

    - by natediggs
Hi Everyone, I have two web servers sitting behind a Cisco ASA 5505, which I don't have much experience with. I'm trying to create two static NATs. One static NAT that goes to xx.xx.xx.150 and another that goes to xx.xx.xx.151. I've created the static NAT for the .150 web server and it works FINE. Incoming and outgoing traffic work great. This is the staging web server. I now need to duplicate the setup for the production web server. So, I connect the webserver to the firewall, change the public IP address on one of the NICs reboot the server and I have outbound internet access. Then I run the command: static (inside, outside) xx.xx.xx.150 192.168.1.x which is successful. I then run the command: access-list acl-outside permit tcp any host xx.xx.xx.150 eq 80 Which is successful. I then try to browse the internet and I get nothing. I try to telnet in through port 80 and I get nothing (though I'm guessing because the response to the telnet request is being blocked). I've tried this with the production web server and then I tried it with another web server that is for internal testing and have the exact same problem. Both work fine until I run the static NAT rule and then no outbound internet access. I have a feeling that it's something simple that I'm missing, but my limited experience with this device is killing me. Below I've pasted the current configuration. I'm currently trying to get this to work on the .153 server which is the internal testing server. Once I can verify that works, I'll try it with production. : Saved : ASA Version 8.2(4) ! hostname QG domain-name XX.com enable password passwd names ! interface Ethernet0/0 switchport access vlan 2 ! • Block all but http traffic on a network interface

    - by Oli
I've got two network interfaces on an Ubuntu machine which go out to two different networks but both have internet gateways. I need to limit it so that any outgoing http requests it makes (ie through wget) only go through eth0 and all other traffic goes through eth1. I dare say the solution might have something to do with iptables but I've no experience with it so would appreciate all help.

  • Set up DNS or F5 VIP to send traffic to a specific port

    - by Sam
I have a clustered SQL instance set up at SERVER01\dev08 It's assigned to a static port of 1466. Can I set up something which will let users connect to SERVER01 and hit that port? If this is possible, what problems might it create (all traffic coming to this name hitting only one port)? It seems that DNS has nothing to do with ports - nor does the F5 big IP.

  • Routers with decent parental monitoring / traffic logging?

    - by antiver
I'm looking for consumer router / firmware recommendations with reasonably robust remote URL / hostname logging & reporting functionality. Most logging functionality I've seen is terrible - reporting only IP addresses, not rolling up reports or reporting any useful statistics. The logs are also often limited to merely the last few minutes/hours when handling high-traffic loads. Bonus points for providing a screenshot of the log reporting interface!

  • Using iptables to forward traffic destined for specific ip via specific interface

    - by shapeshifter
I want to forward traffic destined for a specific ip from my internal network via a specific interface. I have two interfaces which are currently load balanced. I need all requests for a certain ip to go out via eth0 otherwise my external ip changes and sessions are dropped. eg. all requests from 10.1.1.1/24 to ip 11.22.33.44 on port 443 must go out via interface eth0. How can I do this with iptables?

  • Redirect all outgoing traffic on port 80 to a different IP on the same server

    - by Spacedust
I have multiple IP addresses on the same server and I would like to redirect all outgoing traffic on port 80 to a different IP on the same server just no to use always main IP. Currently I'm using this: /sbin/iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j SNAT --to-source IP; and it works well, but it redirects everything and when I make backups over SSH backup it's failing. System: CentOS 5.8 64-bit

  • IPTABLES route, redirect, forwardc traffic

    - by Anthony
I am trying to redirect traffic from one IP reached on a specific port to a website. For example I have two external ips, lets say 194.145.63.1 and 194.145.63.2 set on one network card as 194.145.63.1 - eth0 and 194.145.63.2 -eth0:1 mywebsite.com allows access only from 194.145.63.1 and I want to set my rules like if I hit http://194.145.63.2:8080 to open mywebsite.com trough 194.145.63.1. Thanks in advance!

  • proxy RDP traffic through SOCKS5 proxy, using Windows

    - by ptrn
I'm having bit of trouble. I have a server at school that's hosting a database. Normally I've been connecting to it through a VPN-connection, but earlier today it went down. I've checked with other people, and it's definitely down, so the fault's probably not at my end. Is there a way I can proxy RDP traffic through a SOCKS5 proxy?

  • route http and ssh traffic normally, everything else via vpn tunnel

    - by Normadize
I've read quite a bit and am close, I feel, and I'm pulling my hair out ... please help! I have an OpenVPN cliend whose server sets local routes and also changes the default gw (I know I can prevent that with --route-nopull). I'd like to have all outgoing http and ssh traffic via the local gw, and everything else via the vpn. Local IP is 192.168.1.6/24, gw 192.168.1.1. OpenVPN local IP is 10.102.1.6/32, gw 192.168.1.5 OpenVPN server is at {OPENVPN_SERVER_IP} Here's the route table after openvpn connection: # ip route show table main 0.0.0.0/1 via 10.102.1.5 dev tun0 default via 192.168.1.1 dev eth0 proto static 10.102.1.1 via 10.102.1.5 dev tun0 10.102.1.5 dev tun0 proto kernel scope link src 10.102.1.6 {OPENVPN_SERVER_IP} via 192.168.1.1 dev eth0 128.0.0.0/1 via 10.102.1.5 dev tun0 169.254.0.0/16 dev eth0 scope link metric 1000 192.168.1.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.6 metric 1 This makes all packets go via to the VPN tunnel except those destined for 192.168.1.0/24. Doing wget -qO- http://echoip.org shows the vpn server's address, as expected, the packets have 10.102.1.6 as source address (the vpn local ip), and are routed via tun0 ... as reported by tcpdump -i tun0 (tcpdump -i eth0 sees none of this traffic). What I tried was: create a 2nd routing table holding the 192.168.1.6/24 routing info (copied from the main table above) add an iptables -t mangle -I PREROUTING rule to mark packets destined for port 80 add an ip rule to match on the mangled packet and point it to the 2nd routing table add an ip rule for to 192.168.1.6 and from 192.168.1.6 to point to the 2nd routing table (though this is superfluous) changed the ipv4 filter validation to none in net.ipv4.conf.tun0.rp_filter=0 and net.ipv4.conf.eth0.rp_filter=0 I also tried an iptables mangle output rule, iptables nat prerouting rule. It still fails and I'm not sure what I'm missing: iptables mangle prerouting: packet still goes via vpn iptables mangle output: packet times out Is it not the case that to achieve what I want, then when doing wget http://echoip.org I should change the packet's source address to 192.168.1.6 before routing it off? But if I do that, the response from the http server would be routed back to 192.168.1.6 and wget would not see it as it is still bound to tun0 (the vpn interface)? Can a kind soul please help? What commands would you execute after the openvpn connects to achieve what I want? Looking forward to hair regrowth ...

  • Redirect all traffic to specified hosts behind NAT

    - by biesiad
Is there a possibility to redirect all traffic to specified hosts behind NAT? For example i have a server, a domain "mydomain.com" and 3 hosts behind NAT. I wish to configure 3 subdomains: host1.mydomain.com host2.mydomain.com host2.mydomain.com and each of them to redirect all ports to specified host in local net. That redirection should provide funcionality like this: http://host1.mydomain.com (can be achieved using apache) ssh [email protected] (???) and other protocols on diferent ports Thanks for any help.

  • Secure linux distro that sends traffic through Tor

    - by gravestone
I'm looking for a live Linux distro that is secure and preserves my anonymity online. For what I need, Tor seems to do the job – but such software requires configuration that someone who is not knowledgeable in how it works might find difficult. I was looking at 'Lightweight portable security' but it does not specify whether it sends all traffic through Tor. Does anyone know more information about it and/or any other such live Linux distro?

  • Restrict traffic to local network and VPN using ufw or iptables

    - by Piezo Pea
I want to restrict all traffic from my ubuntu-machine to come or go from the local network (eth0) or from or to my VPN (tun0). It should be possible to connect the router in the local network but not possible to leave the local network not using the VPN. Since i have no experience with iptables and i couldn't find some how-to i tried ufw but i did not succeed. Thank you for some hints or code snippets how to come closer!

  • isa 2006 blocks outgoing traffic with no rule specified

    - by codesnik
I've created a rule near the top, allowing all outgoing traffic from "All Users" from specified IP range to external network. However, connections are blocked sometimes for no apparent reason. For example, one attempt to ssh to an external server would fail, and another immediatelly after that - won't. to the same server! logging shows thoose failed connections as denied, but "rule" column is blank. any suggestions?

I am trying to forward the outbound traffic to another server. Current rule is: /sbin/iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp -s localhost -o 91.xxx.xxx.xxx --dport 65000:65010 -j ACCEPT but when I do a iptables -L, the rule its showed like this: ACCEPT tcp -- localhost.localdomain anywhere tcp dpts:65000:65010 So I guess my rule is bad written since the "destination" column shows "anywhere" Can you help me with this?

  • Domino 8.5.3: Modify Subject of Incoming Email

    - by Void
I am a newbie in managing and development for Domino. Recently, I have request from other teams at work to set up a filter or agent for incoming mail. This is the requirement for the request: Look for Incoming Mail addressed to #CRITICAL (mutlipurpose, internal group containing a list of engineers) For mail matching Point 1, append "For Immediate Action: " to the front of the Subject Some restrictions I have: Only the Domino server is under my charge, not to touch on network-side or other servers No 3rd party software to be installed I have gone through the configurations in the Domino server and the closest thing I have to filtering Email is the Router/SMTP Restrictions... Rules. But this is not able to fulfill Point 2 in any way. Is this even possible using just Domino server settings, or through agents?

  • Squid proxy server not forwarding traffic

    - by DilbertDave
I'm trying to set up a web filtering system (dans guardian) on my home network but am failing at the first hurdle - configuring the Squid Proxy server. No matter what I do I cannot seem to configure it properly and I just receive the 'Requested URL could not be received' error page. If I remove the proxy setting on the browser everything works normally. Ultimately I want to run this on something like a Raspberry Pi but at the moment I'm testing with a virtual machine (although efforts with a netbook were equally unsuccessful). The VM has a clean installation of Linux Mint 15 and I've installed squid via apt-get. I've followed numerous walkthroughs but this on (https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/squid.html) pretty much sums up the process I've been taking. I'm obviously missing something but cannot figure it out - any assistance appreciated.

  • Sorting/Paginating/Filtering Complex Multi-AR Object Tables in Rails

    - by Matt Rogish
I have a complex table pulled from a multi-ActiveRecord object array. This listing is a combined display of all of a particular user's "favorite" items (songs, messages, blog postings, whatever). Each of these items is a full-fledged AR object. My goal is to present the user with a simplified search, sort, and pagination interface. The user need not know that the Song has a singer, and that the Message has an author -- to the end user both entries in the table will be displayed as "User". Thus, the search box will simply be a dropdown list asking them which to search on (User name, created at, etc.). Internally, I would need to convert that to the appropriate object search, combine the results, and display. I can, separately, do pagination (mislav will_paginate), sorting, and filtering, but together I'm having some problems combining them. For example, if I paginate the combined list of items, the pagination plugin handles it just fine. It is not efficient since the pagination is happening in the app vs. the DB, but let's assume the intended use-case would indicate the vast majority of the users will have less than 30 favorited items and all other behavior, server capabilities, etc. indicates this will not be a bottleneck. However, if I wish to sort the list I cannot sort it via the pagination plugin because it relies on the assumption that the result set is derived from a single SQL query, and also that the field name is consistent throughout. Thus, I must sort the merged array via ruby, e.g. @items.sort_by{ |i| i.whatever } But, since the items do not share common names, I must first interrogate the object and then call the correct sort by. For example, if the user wishes to sort by user name, if the sorted object is a message, I sort by author but if the object is a song, I sort by singer. This is all very gross and feels quite un-ruby-like. This same problem comes into play with the filter. If the user filters on the "parent item" (the message's thread, the song's album), I must translate that to the appropriate collection object method. Also gross. This is not the exact set-up but is close enough. Note that this is a legacy app so changing it is quite difficult, although not impossible. Also, yes there is some DRY that can be done, but don't focus on the style or elegance of the following code. Style/elegance of the SOLUTION is important, however! :D models: class User < ActiveRecord::Base ... has_and_belongs_to_many :favorite_messages, :class_name => "Message" has_and_belongs_to_many :favorite_songs, :class_name => "Song" has_many :authored_messages, :class_name => "Message" has_many :sung_songs, :class_name => "Song" end class Message < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :favorite_messages belongs_to :author, :class_name => "User" belongs_to :thread end class Song < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :favorite_songs belongs_to :singer, :class_name => "User" belongs_to :album end controller: def show u = User.find 123 @items = Array.new @items << u.favorite_messages @items << u.favorite_songs # etc. etc. @items.flatten! @items = @items.sort_by{ |i| i.created_at } @items = @items.paginate :page => params[:page], :per_page => 20 end def search # Assume user is searching for username like 'Bob' u = User.find 123 @items = Array.new @items << u.favorite_messages.find( :all, :conditions => "LOWER( author ) LIKE LOWER('%bob%')" ) @items << u.favorite_songs.find( :all, :conditions => "LOWER( singer ) LIKE ... " ) # etc. etc. @items.flatten! @items = @items.sort_by{ |i| determine appropriate sorting based on user selection } @items = @items.paginate :page => params[:page], :per_page => 20 end view: #index.html.erb ... <table> <tr> <th>Title (sort ASC/DESC links)</th> <th>Created By (sort ASC/DESC links))</th> <th>Collection Title (sort ASC/DESC links)</th> <th>Created At (sort ASC/DESC links)</th> </tr> <% @items.each |item| do %> <%= render { :partial => "message", :locals => item } if item.is_a? Message %> <%= render { :partial => "song", :locals => item } if item.is_a? Song %> <%end%> ... </table> #message.html.erb # shorthand, not real ruby print out message title, author name, thread title, message created at #song.html.erb # shorthand print out song title, singer name, album title, song created at

  • Best Website Statistics tool for Drupal

    - by Olav
What is the best free Website statistics setup I can have for Drupal 6 on Apache? Particularities: 1. Multisite install. Might want to look over several sites. Should be able to restrict view for clients to their own site. Some hits are bypassing Drupal. Some urls are not public. Some sites have little traffic, it would be nice to be able to exclude "own" traffic. Logged in users are not so important (It seems Google Analytics is popular)
