  • Setting Environment Variable for Tomcat 6 Servlet

    - by amaevis
    I'm using Ubuntu's default installation of Tomcat 6. I'm deploying a ROOT.war, and trying to set an environment variable specific to it, i.e. accessible from System.getenv() in the Servlet.init(config). According to the docs (http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/config/context.html), I can specify this in a Context element in conf/Catalina/localhost/ROOT.xml. I've created that with these contents: <Context> <Environment name="FOO" value="bar" type="java.lang.String" override="false"/> </Context> And I've deployed the webapp as usual, i.e. to webapps/ROOT.war. Server.getenv("FOO") in the Servlet.init(config) still returns null. What am I missing?

  • Where to export a truly global environment variable?

    - by Socio
    I want to set an environment variable that will be visible to all processes launched by Upstart. This is on a CentOS system, but I presume the same applies to Ubuntu given that they both use Upstart. Somewhere in /etc/init/ perhaps? Note that adding it in /etc/profile.d only applies to login shells. I want all processes (e.g cron, rc.local, etc) to see it. Obviously I'd prefer not to edit existing sys config files if it can be avoided.

  • An object reference is required for the non-static field, method, or property using global variable

    - by Jose Cardama
    Hello Iam working in a global int in which a variable will be used later. I've made the global variable like this: class Foo { public static int stream = Bass.BASS_StreamCreateFile(path1.Text, 0, 0, BASSFlag.BASS_DEFAULT); } which will be later called like this: Foo.stream and it can also contain more then 1 stream for example stream20,30,etc... The problem here is that it returns me this error: "An object reference is required for the non-static field, method, or property" where I call the text in path1.Text How do I fix this?

  • Do there exist programming languages where a variable can truly know its own name?

    - by Job
    In PHP and Python one can iterate over the local variables and, if there is only once choice where the value matches, you could say that you know what the variable's name is, but this does not always work. Machine code does not have variable names. C compiles to assembly and does not have any native reflection capabilities, so it would not know it's name. (Edit: per Anton's answer the pre-processor can know the variable's name). Do there exist programming languages where a variable would know it's name? It gets tricky if you do something like b = a and b does not become a copy of a but a reference to the same place. EDIT: Why in the world would you want this? I can think of one example: error checking that can survive automatic refactoring. Consider this C# snippet: private void CheckEnumStr(string paramName, string paramValue) { if (paramName != "pony" && paramName != "horse") { string exceptionMessage = String.Format( "Unexpected value '{0}' of the parameter named '{1}'.", paramValue, paramName); throw new ArgumentException(exceptionMessage); } } ... CheckEnumStr("a", a); // Var 'a' does not know its name - this will not survive naive auto-refactoring There are other libraries provided by Microsoft and others that allow to check for errors (sorry the names have escaped me). I have seen one library which with the help of closures/lambdas can accomplish error checking that can survive refactoring, but it does not feel idiomatic. This would be one reason why I might want a language where a variable knows its name.

  • How to free static member variable in C++?

    - by user299831
    Can anybody explain how to free memory of a static member Variable? In my understanding it can only be freed if all the instances of the class are destroyed. I am a little bit helpless at this point... Some Code to explain it: class ball { private: static SDL_Surface *ball_image; }; //FIXME: how to free static Variable? SDL_Surface* ball::ball_image = SDL_LoadBMP("ball.bmp");

  • Is content from AJAX call added to Django context variable

    - by John
    Hi, I am using the JQuery load function to load part of my page. Can I access the variables from that page in the page that loads it. e.g. Page A uses JQuery load function to load B Page B loads and sets a variable in context called pageB_var which holds a django object Page A can then access this variable by doing {{pageB_var}} since it was added to the context If not what is the best way of doing this? Thanks

  • PHP: Set variable in to include file in 'if' statement

    - by swiftsly
    I am trying to set a variable in an 'if' statement so that only when the 'if' statement is true, the variable will be set and will be able to be used somewhere else on the page. Here's what I have tried: if ($row[8] == 1) { echo 'Message here'; ob_start(); include('F164.php'); $f164 = ob_get_clean(); } as well as: if ($row[8] == 1) { echo 'Message here'; $f164 = include('F164.php'); }

  • Pass a variable from postDispatch() to view instance in Zend Framework

    - by takeshin
    I have a controller plugin with postDispatch() hook, and there I have a $variable. How to pass this variable to the view instance? I tried Zend_Layout::getMvcInstance()->getView(), but this returns new view instance (not the application resource). The same with $bootstrap->getResource('view'). I don't want to pass it as a request param. Now, as a workaround I do it using Zend_Registry. But, is it the best way?

  • Assign query results to MySQL variable

    - by 5un5
    I'm querying a big mysql database with only read privileges, and I'd like to set some slow query results to a variable, 'foo', so I can use them again in other queries. I get, ERROR 1193 (HY000): Unknown system variable '$foo' when I enter: set $foo := (select * from table1 join table2 where bar = 0 group by id); Is there a way to do this with variables, since I don't have privileges to create temporary tables?

E.g in jQuery function test(param1, param2) { $.each([param1, param2], function (i, v) { //check if all the input params have value, else assign the default value to it if (!v) v = default_value; //this is wrong, can't use v, which is value } } How should I get the variable and assign new value in the loop? Thank you very much!

  • MySQL using function IN with variable

    - by misanov
    I have problem querying table with variable in IN function. SELECT s.date, (SELECT GROUP_CONCAT(value) FROM value WHERE id_value IN(s.ref_values) ) AS vals FROM stats s ORDER BY s.date DESC LIMIT 1 Where s.ref_values is '12,22,54,15'. I get only one return for first number (12). When I insert that value directly in IN(12,22,54,15) it finds all 4. So, there must be problem with using variable in IN. What am I doing wrong?

  • Find where a variable is defined in PHP (And/or SMARTY)?

    - by Jon
    I'm currently working on a very large project, and am under a lot of pressure to finish it soon, and I'm having a serious problem. The programmer who wrote this last defined variables in a very odd way - the config variables aren't all in the same file, they're spread out across the entire project of over 500 files and 100k+ lines of code, and I'm having a hell of a time figuring out where a certain variable is, so I can fix an issue. Is there a way to track this variable down? I believe he's using SMARTY (Which I can not stand, due to issues like this), and the variable is a template variable. I'm fairly sure that the variable I'm looking for was initially defined as a PHP variable, then that variable is passed into SMARTY, so I'd like to track down the PHP one, however if that's impossible - how can I track down where he defined the variable for SMARTY? P.S. I'm in Vista, and don't have ssh access to the server, so 'grep' is out of the question.

  • How can make a variable (not class member) "read only" in C#

    - by devfreak
    Hi, I'm new to the C# world and I can't find a method to declare read only variable in C# (something like declaring "const" variable in c++). Is there one? I'll give you an example: ... int f() { return x; } // x is not const member ... void g() { int readOnlyVar = f(); // is there a method to declare readOnlyVar as read only or const // Some code in which I want to restrict access to readOnlyVar to read only }

  • What does @@variable mean in Ruby?

    - by Andrew
    What are Ruby variables preceded with double at signs (@@)? My understanding of a variable preceded with an at sign is that it is an instance variable, like this in PHP: PHP version class Person { public $name; public function setName($name) { $this->name = $name; } public function getName() { return $this->name; } } Ruby equivalent class Person def set_name(name) @name = name end def get_name() @name end end What does the double at sign @@ mean, and how does it differ from a single at sign?
