  • Can I add an existing 2008 build server to new TFS 2010 server ?

    - by driis
My scenario is this: I am currently testing out a new Team Foundation Server 2010 installation; which we will be moving to shortly. Upgrading builds to work with TFS 2010 and the new MSBuild seems like a lot of work (it does not work out-of-the-box, at least). So what I would like to do, is to repurpose our old TFS Server to be a build server for TFS 2010. It already has build services installed. I cannot figure out how to add an existing TFS 2008 Build Server to my new TFS 2010 installation, so I can use the old server to run old builds. Is this possible ? How can I do it ?

    - by Steve Johnson
    Hi all, I am trying to a perform build automation on one of web application projects built using VS 2008. The _PublishedWebSites contains two folders: Web and Deploy. I just want the TFS 2008 to generate only the Deploy Folder and Not the Web Folder. Here is my TFSBuild.proj File <Project ToolsVersion="3.5" DefaultTargets="Compile" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/developer/msbuild/2003"> <Import Project="$(MSBuildExtensionsPath)\Microsoft\VisualStudio\TeamBuild\Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Build.targets" /> <Import Project="$(MSBuildExtensionsPath)\Microsoft\WebDeployment\v9.0\Microsoft.WebDeployment.targets" /> <ItemGroup> <SolutionToBuild Include="$(BuildProjectFolderPath)/../../Development/Main/MySoftware.sln"> <Targets></Targets> <Properties></Properties> </SolutionToBuild> </ItemGroup> <ItemGroup> <ConfigurationToBuild Include="Release|AnyCPU"> <FlavorToBuild>Release</FlavorToBuild> <PlatformToBuild>Any CPU</PlatformToBuild> </ConfigurationToBuild> </ItemGroup> <!--<ItemGroup> <SolutionToBuild Include="$(BuildProjectFolderPath)/../../Development/Main/MySoftware.sln"> <Targets></Targets> <Properties></Properties> </SolutionToBuild> </ItemGroup> <ItemGroup> <ConfigurationToBuild Include="Release|x64"> <FlavorToBuild>Release</FlavorToBuild> <PlatformToBuild>x64</PlatformToBuild> </ConfigurationToBuild> </ItemGroup>--> <ItemGroup> <AdditionalReferencePath Include="C:\3PR" /> </ItemGroup> <Target Name="GetCopyToOutputDirectoryItems" Outputs="@(AllItemsFullPathWithTargetPath)" DependsOnTargets="AssignTargetPaths;_SplitProjectReferencesByFileExistence"> <!-- Get items from child projects first. --> <MSBuild Projects="@(_MSBuildProjectReferenceExistent)" Targets="GetCopyToOutputDirectoryItems" Properties="%(_MSBuildProjectReferenceExistent.SetConfiguration); %(_MSBuildProjectReferenceExistent.SetPlatform)" Condition="'@(_MSBuildProjectReferenceExistent)'!=''"> <Output TaskParameter="TargetOutputs" ItemName="_AllChildProjectItemsWithTargetPathNotFiltered"/> </MSBuild> <!-- Remove duplicates. --> <RemoveDuplicates Inputs="@(_AllChildProjectItemsWithTargetPathNotFiltered)"> <Output TaskParameter="Filtered" ItemName="_AllChildProjectItemsWithTargetPath"/> </RemoveDuplicates> <!-- Target outputs must be full paths because they will be consumed by a different project. --> <CreateItem Include="@(_AllChildProjectItemsWithTargetPath->'%(FullPath)')" Exclude= "$(BuildProjectFolderPath)/../../Development/Main/Web/Bin*.pdb; *.refresh; *.vshost.exe; *.manifest; *.compiled; $(BuildProjectFolderPath)/../../Development/Main/Web/Auth/MySoftware.dll; $(BuildProjectFolderPath)/../../Development/Main/Web/BinApp_Web_*.dll;" Condition="'%(_AllChildProjectItemsWithTargetPath.CopyToOutputDirectory)'=='Always' or '%(_AllChildProjectItemsWithTargetPath.CopyToOutputDirectory)'=='PreserveNewest'" > <Output TaskParameter="Include" ItemName="AllItemsFullPathWithTargetPath"/> <Output TaskParameter="Include" ItemName="_SourceItemsToCopyToOutputDirectoryAlways" Condition="'%(_AllChildProjectItemsWithTargetPath.CopyToOutputDirectory)'=='Always'"/> <Output TaskParameter="Include" ItemName="_SourceItemsToCopyToOutputDirectory" Condition="'%(_AllChildProjectItemsWithTargetPath.CopyToOutputDirectory)'=='PreserveNewest'"/> </CreateItem> </Target> <!-- To modify your build process, add your task inside one of the targets below and uncomment it.   • Visual Studio 2010, TlbImp generates .net 4.0 interops in 2.0 projects

    - by DJScrib
In a C# project we add a reference to a COM object via the Add References setup pointing to a COM object which results in the IDE auto-generating the interop assembly. So this is fine and good, but we are building based on .net 3.5 SP1 aka CLR 2.0, and the generated interops are using the 4.0 CLR making them incompatible. Is there a way to prevent this? I assume the other option is configure our build script to try using tlbimp.exe with the /references parameter? to point to mscorlib v2.0? Anyhow, I'm hoping there's a flag somewhere to allow this.

  • WPF Window Style not working at runtime

    - by Christian Pena
Hi, I created a WPF application in Visual Studio 2010 Express (C#) and added the text below to the Application.Resources in App.xaml. I see the style applied to the window in the designer, but when I run the application, the window background is white. Running in Windows XP on BootCamp on a MacBook Pro if that is a factor. Thanks in advance, Christian <Style TargetType="{x:Type Window}"> <Setter Property="Background"> <Setter.Value> <LinearGradientBrush StartPoint="0,0" EndPoint="0,1"> <GradientStop Offset="0" Color="WhiteSmoke" /> <GradientStop Offset="1" Color="Silver" /> </LinearGradientBrush> </Setter.Value> </Setter> <Setter Property="Padding" Value="20" /> </Style>

  • Issues integrating NCover with CC.NET, .NET framework 4.0 and MsTest

    - by Nikhil
I'm implementing continuous integration with CruiseControl.NET, .NET 4.0, NCover and MsTest. On the build server I'm unable to run code coverage from the Ncover explorer or NCover console. When I run where vstesthost.exe from the Ncover console it returns the Visual Studio 9.0 path and does not seem to pick up .net framework 4.0. I've followed instructions from this MSTest: Measuring Test Quality With NCover post with slight modifications for .net framework 4.0, without any success. My CC.NET script looks like this <exec> <executable>C:\Program Files (x86)\NCover\NCover.Console.exe</executable> <baseDirectory>$(project_root)\</baseDirectory> <buildArgs>"C:\Program Files (x86)\**Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0**\Common7\IDE\MSTest.exe" /testcontainer:...\...\UnitTests.dll /resultsfile:TestResults.trx //xml D:\_Projects\....\Temp_Coverage.xml //pm vstesthost.exe</buildArgs> <buildTimeoutSeconds>$(ncover.timeout)</buildTimeoutSeconds> </exec> Has anyone come across similar issue. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Recommendations on resolving a cs1705 error

    - by Scott A. Lawrence
I'm upgrading a number of solutions from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010RC. In the process of doing this, I've encountered two instances of compiler error cs1705, one for System.Core and another for System.Data.Linq. In each case, an assembly compiled earlier has a reference to the .NET 4.0 version of these system assemblies, while the web project I'm trying to compile only has references to the .NET 3.5 version of them. Adding .NET 4.0 versions of System.Core and System.Data.Linq to the web project doesn't resolve the error. Removing the .NET 3.5 versions of the assemblies so that only the .NET 4.0 versions remain results in even more errors. Any recommendations on how to resolve this error would be greatly appreciated.

  • No Source available

    - by Eric
I am not sure what happened or if I did anything.. Now anytime I try and debug it says no source available on all BCL stuff For example, on a debug.print I get that message with Locating source for 'f:\dd\ndp\fx\src\CompMod\System\Diagnostics\Debug.cs'. Checksum: MD5 {40 74 18 44 a8 15 28 2e 54 75 5e 40 d1 5f 6a 0} The file 'f:\dd\ndp\fx\src\CompMod\System\Diagnostics\Debug.cs' does not exist. Looking in script documents for 'f:\dd\ndp\fx\src\CompMod\System\Diagnostics\Debug.cs'... Looking in the projects for 'f:\dd\ndp\fx\src\CompMod\System\Diagnostics\Debug.cs'. The debugger could not locate the source file 'f:\dd\ndp\fx\src\CompMod\System\Diagnostics\Debug.cs'. This happens all the time now and I 1. Don't have an F: 2. Enable .net framework source stepping is unchecked Is there some other sneaky setting to make these messages go away? Regards _Eric

  • Is it possible to get MbUnit to work with Visual Studio 2010 and a .NET 4, x64 build?

    - by Thomas Bratt
Is it possible to get MbUnit to work with Visual Studio 2010 and a .NET 4, x64 build? I get the following error with Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4 and Icarus (and similar errors with TeamCity). The tests worked fine with Visual Studio 2008. Gallio.Host.exe - .NET Framework Initialization Error Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application. I have had the error with both the latest released version and the latest development build: GallioBundle-3.2.430.0-Setup-x64.msi

  • Resharper doesn't play well with XAML?

    - by John Weldon
I've been noticing a pattern with ReSharper (both 4.5 and 5). Very often (almost always) when I have solution-wide analysis turned on, and WPF code in my solution, ReSharper will mark a number of the .xaml.cs files as being broken. When I navigate to the file, sometimes it magically updates and displays no errors, and other times I have to open other files that are not being correctly read and close them again to force resharper to correctly analyze them. I assume it has something to do with the temporary .cs code that is generated with XAML, but does anyone know why this is actually happening, and if there is a work around? Should I just file a bug report with JetBrains? Does anyone else experience this?

  • Resolving MSBuild 4.0 warnings

    - by Hadi Eskandari
I've upgraded a solution to use MSBuild 4.0. It compiles but I get lots of warnings, for example: "T:\projects\Castle.Core\buildscripts\Build.proj" (Package target) (1) - "T:\projects\Castle.Core\Castle.Core-vs2008.sln" (Build target) (2:2) - "T:\projects\Castle.Core\src\Castle.DynamicProxy.Tests\Castle.DynamicProxy.Tests-vs2008.csproj" (default target) (3:2) - D:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Microsoft.Common.targets(847,9): warning MSB3644: The reference assemblies for framework ".NETFramework,Version=v4.0.30319" were not found. To resolve this, install the SDK or Targeting Pack for this framework version or retarget your application to a version of the framework for which you have the SDK or Targeting Pack installed. Note that assemblies will be resolved from the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) and will be used in place of reference assemblies. Therefore your assembly may not be correctly targeted for the framework you intend. [T:\projects\Castle.Core\src\Castle.DynamicProxy.Tests\Castle.DynamicProxy.Tests-vs2008.csproj] How can I fix these warnings? It is related to .NET 4.0 Multitargeting pack or SDK, but there's no SDK for .NET 4.0 AFAIK and Multi-Target pack can not be installed separatly. Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • Merging deletes in a Team Foundation Server baseless merge

    - by Justin Dearing
I have two TFS branches that do not have a direct parent/child relationship in TFS. In a certain revision, 94 in my example, several items were deleted. I have been tasked with applying those deletes to the main branch. I'd like to do so through a baseless merge. I tried the following command to do so: tf merge /baseless /recursive /version:94 .\programs\program1 ..\Release\programs\program1 Most of the items in the tree were marked as "merge", and some were marked as "merge edit". However, none of the items were deleted at the destination. On a whim i tried to merge over a single delete like so: tf merge /baseless /recursive /version:94 .\programs\program1\source1.cs ..\Release\programs\program1\source1.cs I got the following error message: The item [TFS_PATH] does not exist at the specified version. How do I do this? Is there a way to avoid making all those deletes myself?

  • How do I execute a command on a successful build on TFS2010?

    - by Simon_Weaver
I've got TFS2010 up and running and building a webdeploy deployment package. Into my directory: C:\TFS-BUILDS\Example Build\Example Build_20100414.44\_PublishedWebsites I get the following two directories: WebsiteName WebsiteName_Package All I want to do is run the following command on a successful build - to deploy the site: WebsiteName_Package\WebsiteName.deploy /Y How can I customize the build process template to actually run that package? Under TFS 2010 you have to use the process templates (no more TFSBuild.csproj stuff). I've tried duplicating the DefaultProcessTemplate.xaml file, but it basically kills my Visual Studio when I open it. How can I edit the .xaml by hand to run this simple command on a successful build

  • When developing a MVC project, is the the toolbox really useful?

    - by Knox
I'm a noobie when it comes to VS, specifically VS 2010. I'm trying to learn MVC 2.0. If you're developing a pure MVC project, it seems like most of the toolbox is not useful. Shouldn't the IDE hide controls that aren't useful? Specifically, I'm looking at the AJAX extensions like Timer and UpdatePanel, but it seems like a lot controls more would require postback.

  • Inserting snippets from macros

    - by Matt
In Visual Studio 2008 I had a macro which would insert a snippet and input today's date in one of the replacements. When I try to run this macro in VS 2010 it doesn't work. No matter how I try it will not insert a snippet. When I try the following command: DTE.ExecuteCommand("Edit.InvokeSnippetFromShortcut", "snippetName") This fails with error "Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component. I tried recording a new macro and when I pressed the keyboard shortcut for inserting a snippet (Ctrl+K, Ctrl+X) VS gave the error "The command Insert Snippet is not currently available." Did MS remove the ability to insert snippets from macros? If so this really is a shame because macros have functionality not found in snippets and vice versa.

  • Force File Reload Before Build

    - by Byron Ross
We have a tool that generates some code (.cs) files that are used to build the project. The tool is run during the pre-build step, but the files are updated in the solution only after the build, which means the build needs to be performed twice to clear the errors after a change to the input. Example: Modify Tool Input File Run Build Tool Runs and changes source file Build Fails Run Build Tool Runs and changes source file (but it doesn's actually change, because the input remains the same) Build Succeeds Any ideas how we can do away with the double build, and still let our tool be run from VS? Thanks guys!

  • Create a dynamic project template in VS 2010?

    - by jonhobbs
This might sound a bit of an odd question but I know what I want to achieve, just don't know if it's possible. Firstly, I'd like to be able to create a visual studio project that the 2 developers that work with me can use as a basis for all new websites. I want to drop all the common files that we use in there, like jQuery, CMS files etc. so that every time they start a new project they don't have to worry about all of that stuff. I guess to do this I just set up a project and "File Export Template" ? Now, here's the tricky bit... When you open up one of the default templates in VS it asks you a few questions, such as if you want to use a master page or if you want to use code behind etc. What I would like to do is set up something similar so that when you use the project template it asks you what version of jQuery you want to use so that it can import the right file, or for example it might ask you if you want to include certain user controls that the CMS contains. If you tick the box then the folder with the necessary user controls would be put in your new project for you. I know MS can do this but can a user like me include functionality like that in my own project template? Hope that makes sense.

  • MSBuild - setting a reference path

    - by Ryan
I have several assemblies my project is dependant upon. These are stored in the Project's directory under the "Dependencies" folder. So something like this. Solution - Project - Dependancies FunkyAssembly.dll - bin - Debug - Release SomeCode.cs I've referenced FunkyAssembly.dll using Browse and in project.csproj I see <Reference Include="FunkyAssembly"> <HintPath>Dependancies\FunkyAssembly.dll</HintPath> </Reference> So far so good - except after a release build FunkyAssembly.dll is copied to the Release directory (not a problem in itself) but then future debug builds will reference this copy rather than the copy in Dependencies. You can see this if you at Path in the reference properties. This means that if Dependencies\FunkyAssembly.dll is updated the build won't pick it up as its referencing the old copy in bin/Release. Any way to FORCE the damn thing to pick up Dependencies\FunkyAssembly.dll rather than HINT?

  • Moving to .net 4 results in System.Transactions Critical: 0

Hi I have fully working project in .net 3.5SP1, with EF 1 ORM. I tried to upgrade to .net 4. No issue while upgrading... Then i ran the project and got a NullExecptionError, with no stack trace... and no way to debug. • Convert File System Website to IIS Website

    - by Noah
We recently migrated from VS 2008 to VS 2010. The migration went fine, except for our web project. Before, in VS 2008, the site showed up as http://localhost/Website. Now, it appears as C:...\Website. It appears that when we did the migration, VS started to treat it as a file system website. I've tried removing the existing site and re-adding it as an existing website, but it still displays it as C:...\Website. Is there any way to convert it back to show it as a http://localhost/website, and run through IIS, as opposed to the default ASP.NET Development Server?

  • Best open source alternative for MS Visual Source Safe?

    - by afsharm
We are leaving VSS for TFS or any other alternatives. I'm the one who persists to go for an open source alternative like SVN. Now I'm searching for a good open source Version Control regarding following aspects: We are in love with open source movement and cross-platform. Could it be possible to use it with Mono, SharpDevelop and Express editions of VS instead of Visual Studio itself? What about backup? Is it integrated with VS without serious problems? Any API or command prompt access? Please notice I've read following previous texts about it but still need more help: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/690766/vss-or-svn-for-a-net-project http://stackoverflow.com/questions/61959/tfs-vs-open-source-alternatives http://stackoverflow.com/questions/44588/how-to-convince-a-company-to-switch-their-source-control
