• Crop & Resize Images in Wordpress

  I have gone through several plugins and I can't find a plugin that simply resizes and crops images to a specific size when they get uploaded. This is different from simply resizing one side of the image, I need it to resize the smallest side and then crop the largest side so that the image fits in a specific space. WP already does this by default with thumbnails but I need to do this with full-sized images as well. I was going to use: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/scissors/ but it doesn't work with my installation. Can anyone think of another plugin that does this? Is there a simple way to enable this behavior for full size images by modifying wordpress?

• Wordpress IIS directory problem

  Hi, I'm trying to install wordpress on a Windows IIS server. I've extracted the wordpress file to a path like the following: www.domain.com/home I've setup the mysql database and configured the necessary wp-config.php. All is good so far. When I open the install php at: http://www.domain.com/home/wp-admin/install.php The page looks for its stylesheet at: http://www.domain.com/wp-admin/css/install.css That is wrong, it should look for the stylesheet at: http://www.domain.com/home/wp-admin/css/install.css I'm guessing the problem is with IIS but I have no clue how to tackle it and google did not help so far. I hope someone would know why this is happening. Thanks!

• Wordpress page linking

  I am trying to implement WordPress into quite a large site with a complex page structure and struggling to get normal pages to work (not created through the admin) The pages are created, but when I link to them, nothing happens... The desired url - www.website.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/page.php The actual url- www.website.com/wp-content/themes/themename/dir1/dir2/dir3/page.php The problem with linking to the latter is that it breaks the WordPress functions I don't want to have to give every page a template, then add it through the admin, it is too much work. I only need 2 pages to contain dynamic content. Am I being silly? I am really confused.

  I used the idea from "StackOverflow badge to show in your blog" from here to develop a small WordPress plugin to show your SO reputation and badges on your WordPress weblog sidebar. It's awfully lacking some graphic design, style, color, etc. I also thought of adding the user avatar, and images for the different badges. But it's working so far, and it's pretty late and I have to get some sleep. But I'll add the stuff I mentioned tomorrow. That was quite an interesting PHP challenge. • Creating a virtual, data-driven section of a Wordpress-powered site

  Hello all, I want to create a plugin for wordpress to automatically serve pages containing data pulled from a provider's API. The API returns one or more records containing data for that record and I simply want to have the plugin intercept the request, call the API with parameters pulled from the request URI and display the data using a template that I can either let them upload to the server or let them copy and paste into the plugins admin settings. For example, I may want one of my wordpress installations to show products pulled from such an API under the url "example.com/products". The plugin would catch that request, extract the variables from the URL, call the API and render the template with the returned results. I'd like to avoid requiring editing the .htaccess file like some caching plugins do. Some of the admins of these pages won't know how to do that or simply won't have access to the .htaccess file. • Updates to Wordpress theme template/stylesheet are not reflected when a file is edited

  I am developing a theme in Wordpress. I have an issue where updates to my stylesheet (style.css) are not being reflected in the browser after FTPing a new version of the file to the server. Edits will only show up in the browser after waiting a long time, (15+ minutes). I have tried all the things mentioned here, which have not worked. These include: Making sure no caching plugins are installed in Wordpress Clearing the browser cache Trying from a different browser Making sure I am editing and accessing the correct file Checking webhost configuration panel for a caching plugin Something seems to be caching the stylesheet but I'm not sure how this might be so.

• Wordpress parses wp_posts.post_content before rendering?

  I noticed that when I call the the_post() or the_content() function from my wordpress template, it automatically parses the database data to replace new lines with <br/>, wraps the text with <p> tags etc...There's probably some kind of "format" function within the_post() or the_content(). I wrote a query to directly get posts from the wp_posts. I then print it out like <?php $results = $wp->get_results($sql) foreach($results as $row) echo $row->post_content; ?> Clearly, this data is not parsed by wordpress' "format" function. What is the proper way to output this content such that it undergoes the same "formatting" functions as the_post() or the_content()?

  Our company has an existing Wordpress blog which I would like to integrate into our new Magento site. I'm not finding much luck out there on the interwebs, so I was hoping someone might be able to direct me to the best way of doing what i need here. All I need is to show the latest 5 posts on my page. It can either be done via an RSS feed or some other method, but I would prefer to not install Wordpress on the same server so as to lag down my sites server.   Hey Recently I'm interested in post's structure of Wordpress. They use a table named (wp_posts) and in this table they saved 3 related fields such as : post_title post_name guid It's clear that they save title of each story in post_title field , and slugs in post_name , and full url of a post in guild filed . But where the hell, they rewrite these urls in way it appears in browsers : http://localhost/wordpress/about/ There is no htaccess rules for this ! I checked rewrite.php and didn't understand an inch ?! i need to create similar pages , what steps should i take !?

However, I need to change the wordpress settings so that posts end in the following format: http://www.blog.com/02/11/2009/this-is-a-post. When I do this, obviously it will break outside links to the post that is named http://www.blog.com/?p=2. So my question is how can I manaully redirect a url http://www.blog.com/?p=2 to go to a working url http://www.blog.com/02/11/2009/this-is-a-post ? Thanks.

  Hi All, Was wondering if anyone had any smart approaches to creating dynamic vanity user urls upon user registration. My site basically uses emails as usernames. I have the regex to strip the text before the "@" symbol (e.g. "[email protected]" becomes "name") I would then like to take the "name" and create a vanity url (e.g. domain.com/name or name.domain.com) Any thoughts on how to accomplish this with Wordpress? I'm a pretty advanced Wordpress user and my first thoughts were to do the following Verify user registration Upon successful user registration create page name with username as the title (this would help me achieve the www.domain.com/username) Apply preset template to that page with the desired view Any and all thoughts are welcome.

• Want to open Shadowbox gallery directly through Wordpress Navigation Menu

  I want to be able to open my shadowbox gallery in wordpress by directly clicking the portfolio link in the navbar. Right now it either opens the portfolio page I made with the gallery in it or opens images separately (without shadowbox), this was because I tried adding html to the Nav Label in the wordpress dashboard. • Wordpress meta data is written on top of page instead of the loop

  i'm building a wordpress webpage based on the Skeleton Wordpress theme. I have 2 posts showing on a page and each of these posts have custom fields values (meta data). Im using the shortcode from the skeleton theme to get a post-feed from a specific category and in that loop i have inserted this tag that displays the custom fields data <?php the_meta(); ?> I am getting the data - but the problem is, the data is shown on TOP of the page instead of inside the in the post. What could've ive possibly done wrong? or is it something with skeleton i am doing wrong?   I've been trying to make a widget which stays active permanently on a wordpress sidebar, preferably being on top before all other widgets. However the only way I have figured I can do this is by manually modifying individual sidebar.php's but that is slow and inefficient. So is there a way I can force a widget to display in a sidebar? If I was to change actual wordpress code where would I go about doing htis? I Know where a widget is registered but I don't know where a widget is activated, if I knew this I think I could force the main widget I want to see active all the time be active.

• Is it possible to add files to the "Wordpress Media Library" using the command line?

  Wordpress has it's own "Media Library" which is used when you upload images and other media for use in blog posts and pages. The advantage of the media library is that it automatically produces thumbnails of the images and the web interface gives you extra info such as who uploaded the image, which articles use the image, etc. My question is, does anyone have any tips on interacting with the media library via the command line instead of using the Wordpress web interface? For example, any ideas on how to add a image to the media library from the command line? If I copy files to the media library directory (usually .../wp-content/uploads/YYYY/MM/) from the command line they do not show up in the Wordpress dashboard - I guess because there needs to be an associated database entry for the media to be registered with Wordpress.

  I have been using hostgators hatchling plan for three months. I got an email from the hosting that my website is creating an over load on CPU. They said that I am eating up their processor and as a precaution, they have temporarily suspended my account. When I contacted their customer support, they said: You have to optimize your database and use some sort of caching mechanism, where the script does not need to generate a new page with every request, helps to lower the over load that a script will cause. I am not a technical geek, I am wondering how I will do this thing. I don't have any resource to hire a web developer to do this job. My website is down for 48hours. I was using wp super cache along with cloudfare's free support. Now I have intalled optimize-db plugin and optimized my database. Please provide me with some more tips on how to optimize my database to reduce CPU usage. Any help would be appreciated.

My question is more specifically about wordpress plugin development, but this question has arised also in a non-wordpress environments. The reason is mainly the possibility to easily change VERSIONS and names throughout a large project with maybe a constant definition - but that will reflect also in the docblock..   So I am using AnythingSlider in Wordpress. This is why I am trying to call the thumbnails from the original posts. • PHP/SQL/Wordpress: Group a user list by alphabet

  I want to create a (fairly big) Wordpress user index with the users categorized alphabetically, like this: A Amy Adam B Bernard Bianca and so on. I've created a custom Wordpress query which works fine for this, except for one problem: It also displays "empty" letters, letters where there aren't any users whose name begins with that letter. I'd be glad if you could help me fix this code so that it only displays the letter if there's actually a user with a name of that letter :) I've tried my luck by checking how many results there are for that letter, but somehow that's not working.
