  I begin to learning direct3d10 and stuck with multiple passes. What am I doing wrong? Also, I've got another question - should I set vertex shader in every pass?   This question already has an answer here: Persistent “disk will be checked…” in the message of the day (motd) even after reboot 3 answers My motd persistently has: *** /dev/sdb1 will be checked for errors at next reboot *** The problem is that I don't have /dev/sdb1 on my system. I only have /dev/sdb2 (mouted as /) and /dev/sda1 which mounts to /media/backup. I delete that line from /etc/motd, but it reappears after reboot. • Localization of Database Strings in .Net

  I have several database tables that have a description column that I need to display in the UI. .Net has .resx files that will help with the translation of the strings, when the Thread.CurrentCulture.UICulture is set, but I needed a custom approach for the strings that are stored in the database and not in the .resx files. Here’s my approach: 1. Create a resource file for each database table and put them in the /Resources/Database/ directory. 2. Create a method in LocalizationHelpers (GetLocalizedString) that will get the string from the table for English (which should be cached to avoid unneeded service/database calls) or the resx when not English. 3. All database tables need to have a ResxKey field that matches the key in the resx file. 4. By convention the resx file will have the same name as the database table, and the key the same as the database ResxKey.   - if there are multiple columns that need translation, then one ResxKey will be used and Name or Description appended.   I tried to read some posts regarding mounting a new hard drive, but I am facing some problem. My new hard drive is sda1. • Upgraded from ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 issues

  I recently upgraded 12.04 to 12.10 ubuntu and then all hell broke loose. Being more specific, I have a Compaq machine and its hard disk is partitioned into 3 parts, so when I installed Ubuntu 10.04, I installed it in windows, since then have upgraded with each new ubuntu release via the update manager without any problems. I have installed the 64 bit versions. 12.10 downloaded via update manager, and initial downloading of packages was without problems, however, as it tried to install the packages, error messages appeared. The first was one about missing lib files, but I clicked to continue, since I am a relative novice on ubuntu. It continued, and during the restart process, when it was powering down, the computer hanged on the shutting down bit without rebooting for more than half an hour, so I manually shut down the machine and restarted it. Then a new error message appeared stating could not find disk, and I hit the manual fix option, and it now boots to an empty ubuntu desktop with my wallpaper but no launcher and the graphics appears as if this was put on a 640 x 480 resolution, and the screen no longer fits onto my 19" LCD. I had to use Ctrl-Alt-T to log out and then restart from there. How can I resolve this issue. Please help!

  I'm having a problem accessing the contents of an XML document. My goal is this: Take an XML source and parse it into a fair equivalent of an associative array, then store it as a persistable object. the xml is pretty simple: <root> <element> <category_id>1</category_id> <name>Cars</name> </element> <element> <category_id>2</category_id> <name>Boats</name> </element> </root> Basic java class below. I'm pretty much just calling save(xml) after http response above. • Mobile App Data Syncronization

  Let's say I have a mobile app that uses HTML5 SQLite DB (and/or the HTML5 key-value store). Assets (media files, PDFs, etc.) are stored locally on the mobile device. Luckily enough, the mobile device is a read-only copy of the "centralized" storage, so the mobile device won't have to propagate changes upstream. However, as the server changes assets (creates new ones, modifies existing, deletes old ones) I need to propagate those changes back to the mobile app. Assume that server changes are grouped into changesets (version number n) that contain some information (added element XYZ, deleted id = 45, etc.) and that the mobile device has limited CPU/bandwidth, so most of the processing has to take place on the server. I can think of a couple of methods to do this. All have trade-offs and at this point, I'm unsure which is the right course of action... Method 1: For change set n, store the "diff" of the current n and previous n-1. When a client with version y asks if there have been any changes, send the change sets from version y up to the current version. e.g. added item 334, contents: xxx. Deleted picture 44. Deleted PDF 11. Changed 33. added picture 99. Characteristics: Diffs take up space, although in theory would be kept small. However, all diffs must be kept around indefinitely (should a v1 app have not been updated for a year, must apply v2..v100). High latency devices (mobile apps) will incur a penalty to send lots of small files (assume cannot be zipped or tarr'd up into one file) Very few server CPU resources required, as all it does is send the client a list of files "Dumb" - if I change an item in change set 3, and change it to something else in 4, the client is going to perform both actions, even though #3 is rendered moot by #4. Or, if an asset is added in #4 and removed in #5 - the client will download a file just to delete it later. Method 2: Very similar to method 1 except on the server, do some sort of a diff between the change sets represented by the app version and server version. Package that up and send that single change set to the client. Characteristics: Client-efficient: The client only has to process one file, duplicate or irrelevant changes are stripped out. Server CPU/space intensive. The change sets must be diff'd and then written out to a file that is then sent to the client. Makes diff server scalability an issue. Possibly ways to cache the results and re-use them, but in the wild there's likely to be a lot of different versions so the diff re-use has a limit Diff algorithm is complicated. The change sets must be structured in such a way that an efficient and effective diff can be performed. Method 3: Instead of keeping diffs, write out the entire versioned asset collection to a mobile-database import file. When client requests an update, send the entire database to client and have them update their assets appropriately. Characteristics: Conceptually simple -- easy to develop and deploy Very inefficient as the client database is restored every update. If only one new thing was added, the whole database is refreshed. Server space and CPU efficient. Only the latest version DB needs kept around and the server just throws the file to the client. Others?? Thoughts? Thanks!!

Setting a breakpoint on my java code, I can see that it is not hit when I run the silverlight client, so it is probably a cross domain issue, but I'm not sure how to handle it (I've already created a crossdomain.xml file and put it beside my HTML page hosting the silverlight client). • GKTank example is not working.

  Hello, I'm trying to get the GKTank example working with 2 iPhones. Both have bluetooth enabled. I start the app on both devices and tap the screen. The Peer Picker comes up and the devices find each other. If I select one device in the list it says "Waiting for {other iPhone}..." forever. On the {other iPhone} the waiting phone gets grayed out. If I select the device to connect to from both devices at the same time both go into waiting state forever... • Kindle Fire: PopupMenu$OrientationChangeListener leak

  I have a little popup menu that anchors on a button in the action bar. This works well on 3.0/3.1 Xoom and Galaxy tabs, and a 4.1 Nexus 7. However, on a 7" Fire HD (this one), I get an error about a leaked intent receiver when exiting the application. The error occurs only if the menu was not opened during that run. There is no mention of OrientationChangeListener in the one copy of the source I've found; I suspect Amazon has a different implementation. Questions: Has anyone encountered this? Does anyone know of a workaround or a fix? (Where) can I find Amazon's source code? Finally, (shudder) how important is it that I don't leak a receiver on application exit? • How to reduce virtual memory by optimising my PHP code?

  My current code (see below) uses 147MB of virtual memory! My provider has allocated 100MB by default and the process is killed once run, causing an internal error. The code is utilising curl multi and must be able to loop with more than 150 iterations whilst still minimizing the virtual memory. The code below is only set at 150 iterations and still causes the internal server error. At 90 iterations the issue does not occur. How can I adjust my code to lower the resource use / virtual memory? • SSRS 2008 printing single page renders different for print

  I have a problem with SSRS 2008 reports rendering differently on the reporting server than the way it renders when you print the report. I’m trying to figure out to print a single page and have the print show that same records as I see on the report on the screen. As a test, I created a simple report with no headers or footers and just added a Tablix table to display the records (no groupings). My data set for this test displays 2 ¼ pages of records when I deploy it to our reporting services server and run it. If I click the print Icon and preview the report is 2 ¾ pages. I haven’t found anything searching on this so it makes me think it is something simple I’m missing. A basically want the report to render the same records on each page in Report Manager as it does when it prints, how do I accomplish this? (In response to answer posted by Chris)…If that is the case then it is disappointing. Customers are accustomed to WYSIWYG and will have a hard time understanding that, I imagine we will be getting a lot of support calls. This still leaves an issue. I tried using print preview and could not find any way to single out a page. If I select a page up front to print, or preview it renders different so I get different records. And if I preview the entire document, I can only print the entire document. You mentioned the Excel render; we have customers that will want that also. The problem I have found with Excel exports is that even a basic report winds up merging some cells and that messes up sorting. I’m going to try your tip about grouping to see if I can get a clean export to a page. It would have been nice if they would have created a property for certain controls like the tablix table called “ExcelSheet”. Then all you would have to do is give it a name and it would create a new sheet for each control with a name, the name becoming the sheet title. Update 02/19/2010 After testing this more I now realize it is just a bad design of Report managers print driver or a limitation because it is server based. The options work differently than Windows apps drivers, But I did find a work around. Here is the test I performed comparing Excel to Report Manager. I bring up a report that will render more than 1 page when printed. I then export to Excel, in Excel I select print preview. I can navigate the pages in preview and then select a single page like page 3. I can then print just page 3 without leaving print preview and it prints just like it rendered. I cannot do this using print in report manager. If I select print preview in report manager then try to print while in preview it always prints the entire document. However if I close out of print preview, I can then select page 3 and print it as rendered. It is just one additional step once you know what to do, but it took some time to figure it out.
