• How to set up an insert to a grails created file with next sequence number?

  I'm using a JMS queue to read from and insert data into a postgres table created by grails. The problem is obtaining the next sequence value. I thought I had found the solution with the following statement (by putting "DEFAULT" where the ID should go), but it's no longer working. I must have changed something, because I needed to recreate the table. • ASP.NET required field validator firing on focus in Firefox

  I have 2 asp.net textboxes in an update panel. Both textbox controls have some javascript attached to autotab to the next field and to allow only numeric input. When I enter some data into the first field and press enter, focus shifts to the next field and the requiredfieldvalidator of the second field displays its "* required" error message, even though I've just entered the field. This is only happening in Firefox.   Hi, I have a project that is using MVC areas. The area has the entire project in it while the main "Views/Controllers/Models" folders outside the Areas are empty barring a dispatch controller I have setup that routes default incoming requests to the Home Controller in my area. This controller has one method as follows:- public ActionResult Index(string id) { return RedirectToAction("Index", "Home", new {area = "xyz"}); } I also have a default route setup to use this controller as follows:- routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Default route "{controller}/{action}/{id}", new { controller = "Dispatch", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } ); Any default requests to my site are appropriately routed to the relevant area. The Area's "RegisterArea" method has a single route:- context.MapRoute( "xyz_default", "xyz/{controller}/{action}/{id}", new { action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } My area has multiple controllers with a lot of views. Any call to a specific view in these controller methods like "return View("blah"); renders the correct view. However whenever I try and return a view along with a model object passed in as a parameter I get the following error:- Server Error in '/DeveloperPortal' Application. The view 'blah' or its master was not found. The following locations were searched: ~/Views/Profile/blah.aspx ~/Views/Profile/blah.ascx ~/Views/Shared/blah.aspx ~/Views/Shared/blah.ascx It looks like whenever a model object is passed in as a param. to the "View()" method [e.g. return View("blah",obj) ] it searches for the view in the root of the project instead of in the area specific view folder. • Setting up a button to trigger both modalPopupExtender and his Click Method

  Hey guys, I have this modalPopupExtender, I want it to show a CheckBoxList with some data. I have set up a button to call both the method to fill the CheckBoxes and trigger the modalPopup (TargetControlID). they're all inside an UpdatePanel. with the right triggers. The problem is that when I click the button it shows the modalPopup but doesn't load the method to fill my CheckBoxes... Also, a linkButton inside the poup (linkButtonCheckAll) just closes the popup when clicked. • ScrollView alawys scrolling to the bottom

Unfortunately this doesn't worked correctly. It scrolls down, but not always, and not always to the bottom. Any hints?

• SQL 2005 indexed queries slower than unindexed queries

  Adding a seemingly perfectly index is having an unexpectedly adverse affect on a query performance... -- [Data] has a predictable structure and a simple clustered index of the primary key: ALTER TABLE [dbo].[Data] ADD PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [ID] ) -- My query, joins on itself looking for a certain kind of "overlapping" records SELECT DISTINCT [Data].ID AS [ID] FROM dbo.[Data] AS [Data] JOIN dbo.[Data] AS [Compared] ON [Data].[A] = [Compared].[A] AND [Data].[B] = [Compared].[B] AND [Data].[C] = [Compared].[C] AND ([Data].[D] = [Compared].[D] OR [Data].[E] = [Compared].[E]) AND [Data].[F] <> [Compared].[F] WHERE 1=1 AND [Data].[A] = @A AND @CS <= [Data].[C] AND [Data].[C] < @CE -- Between a range [Data] has about a quarter-million records so far, 10% to 50% of the data satisfies the where clause depending on @A, @CS, and @CE. As is, the query takes 1 second to return about 300 rows when querying 10%, and 30 seconds to return 3000 rows when querying 50% of the data. Curiously, the estimated/actual execution plan indicates two parallel Clustered Index Scans, but the clustered index is only of the ID, which isn't part of the conditions of the query, only the output. ?? If I add this hand-crafted [IDX_A_B_C_D_E_F] index which I fully expected to improve performance, the query slows down by a factor of 8 (8 seconds for 10% & 4 minutes for 50%). The estimated/actual execution plans show an Index Seek, which seems like the right thing to be doing, but why so slow?? CREATE UNIQUE INDEX [IDX_A_B_C_D_E_F] ON [dbo].[Data] ([A], [B], [C], [D], [E], [F]) INCLUDE ([ID], [X], [Y], [Z]); The Data Engine Tuning wizard suggests a similar index with no noticeable difference in performance from this one. Moving AND [Data].[F] <> [Compared].[F] from the join condition to the where clause makes no difference in performance. I need these and other indexes for other queries. I'm sure I could hint that the query should refer to the Clustered Index, since that's currently winning - but we all know it is not as optimized as it could be, and without a proper index, I can expect the performance will get much worse with additional data. What gives?

  Dear .Net Linq experts, I am looking for a way to query for products in a catalog using filters on properties which have been assigned to the product based on the category to which the product belongs. So I have the following entities involved: Products -Id -CategoryId Categories [Id] Properties [Id, CategoryId] PropertyValues [Id, PropertyId] ProductProperties [ProductId, PropertyValueId] When I ad a product to the catalog, multiple ProductProperties will be added based on the category and I would like to be able to filter all products from a category by selecting values for one or more properties. I will gather all filters, which I will hold in a list, by reading the URL. Now it is time to actually get the products based on multiple properties and I have been trying to find the right strategy but untill now it does not really work. Is there a way to make this work without writing SQL? I was trying something like this: productsInCategory = ProductRepository.Where(p => p.Category.Name == category); foreach (PropertyFilter pf in filterList) { productsInCategory = (from product in productsInCategory join pp in ProductPropertyRepository on product.Id equals pp.ProductId where pp.PropertyValueId == pf.ValueId select product); }

• iPad: Mobile Safari, HTML5 <video>, and jquery transitions

  I'm building a simple proof-of-concept for an iPad-specific website that would use video transitions to bring users from section to section. For purposes of the proof of concept, each "section" is just an image with a semitransparent content text box positioned above it. There are just 2 sections, "home" and "contact", and they've got a transition video sandwiched between them via z-indexing. The idea for the proof of concept is that clicking on the "home" section causes it to disappear, followed by playback of the transition video, which (upon completion) disappears to reveal the "contact" section. Everything is working fine with this version of the demo on the iPad and on Safari for Windows and OS X. Here's the JS: var myVideo = document.getElementsByTagName('video')[0]; $('document').ready(function() { $('#home').click(function() { $(this).css('display','none'); myVideo.play(); myVideo.addEventListener('ended', function() { $('#transition').css('display','none'); }); }); }); What I'd like to do is use a jQuery fadeOut() effect to fade out the text box prior to starting the video when the "home" section is clicked. • Delete record in Linq to Sql

  I have Linq2Sql classes User, Page, and UserPage (from a junction table), i.e. a many-to-many relationship. I'm using a gridview to show all Users, with a dropdownlist in each row to show the Pages visited by each user. Now I want to be able to delete records through the gridview, so I have added a delete button in the gridview by setting "Enable deleting" on it. Then I tried to use the RowDeleting event to specify how to delete the records since it doesn't work by default. And because its a relationship I know I need to delete the related records in the junction table before deleting the user record itself, so I added this in the RowDeleting event: protected void GridView2_RowDeleting(object sender, GridViewDeleteEventArgs e) { int id = (int)((DataKey)GridView2.DataKeys[e.RowIndex]).Value; UserPageDBDataContext context = new UserPageDBDataContext(); var userPages = from userPage in context.UserPages where userPage.User.UserID == id select userPage; foreach (var userPage in userPages) context.UserPages.DeleteOnSubmit(userPage); context.SubmitChanges(); var user = context.Users.Single(u => u.UserID == id); context.Users.DeleteOnSubmit(user); context.SubmitChanges(); } This actually seems to delete records, because the record with the id in question does indeed disappear, but strangely, a new record seems to be added at the end...! So, say I have 3 records in the gridview: 1 Jack stackoverflow.com 2 Betty stackoverflow.com/questions 3 Joe stackoverflow.com/whatever Now, if I try to delete user 1 (Jack), record number 1 will indeed disappear in the gridview, but the same record will appear at the end with a new id: 2 Jack stackoverflow.com 3 Betty stackoverflow.com/questions 4 Joe stackoverflow.com/whatever I have tried searching on how to delete records using Linq, and I believe I'm doing exacly as the examples I have read (e.g. the second example here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Bb386925%28v=VS.100%29.aspx). I have read that you can also set cascade delete on the relationship in the database, but I wanted to do it this way in code, as your supposed to be able to. So what am I doing wrong?

• Using for or while loops

  Every month, 4 or 5 text files are created. The data in the files is pulled into MS Access and used in a mailmerge. Each file contains a header. This is an example: HEADER|0000000130|0000527350|0000171250|0000058000|0000756600|0000814753|0000819455|100106 The 2nd field is the number of records contained in the file (excluding the header line). The last field is the date in the form yymmdd. Using gawk (for Windows), I've done ok with rearranging/modifying the data and writing it all out to a new file for importing into Access except for the following. I'm trying to create a unique ID number for each record. The ID number has the form 1mmddyyXXXX, where XXXX is a number, padded with leading zeros. Using the header above, the first record in the output file would get the ID number 10106100001 and the last record would get the ID 10106100130. I've tried putting the second field in the header into a variable, rearranging the last header field into the required date format and then looping with "for" statements to append the XXXX part of the ID and then outputting it all with printf but so far I've been complete rubbish at it. I am attempting to clean out a table but not get rid of the actual structure of the table, i have the following columns: id, username, date, text the id is auto incrementing, I don't need to keep the ID number, but i do need it to keep its auto-incrementing characteristic. I've found delete and truncate but I'm worried one of these will completely drop the entire table rendering future insert commands useless. Thank you, Everybody!

• How to validate parameter values against a data source in Crystal Reports 2008

  I have a report designed in Crystal 2008. The report has a parameter field called "Member ID" that I want to use to get a string input from the user running the report. However, I want to do some sort of validation to ensure that the ID they entered is valid (it exists in a database table that I already have set up). Is there any way to do this? I know you can set up dynamic parameters that would give the user a dropdown list of Member ID values to choose from based on the data stored in my database table. But I don't want to make the user sort through thousands of IDs in a dropdown. I just want them to manually enter an ID and then have the report check the entered value against a database table. Is this possible?
