• New to networking had to reinstall xp what does blank in Default Gateway mean?

  I have reinstalled windows xp and posted about not being able to connect to the Interenet. I did go and ensure all drivers are there and now when I type ipconfig/all I get physical address, dhcp enabled, autoconfiguration enabled, autoconfiguration Ip address, subnet mask and then a line that says default gateway where default gateway is the only line with no numbers or anything next to it. My wireless connection works but how can I get this ethernet connection to work. This was working prior to this fresh reinstall.

I do not understand how to READ the socket and get all the info summed up into a string. the socket might contains more than 1 line [trying to make a chat].   I have the following bash code, which is copied and pasted from "bash cookbook" (1st edition): #!/bin/bash VERBOSE=0; if [[ $1 =-v ]] then VERBOSE=1; shift; fi When I run this (bash 4.0.33), I get the following syntax error: ./test.sh: line 4: conditional binary operator expected ./test.sh: line 4: syntax error near `=-v' ./test.sh: line 4: `if [[ $1 =-v ]]' Is this as simple as a misprint in the bash cookbook, or is there a version incompatibility or something else here? What would the most obvious fix be? I've tried various combinations of changing the operator, but I'm not really familiar with bash scripting.

• Python sqlite3 and concurrency

  I have a Python program that uses the "threading" module. Once every second, my program starts a new thread that fetches some data from the web, and stores this data to my hard drive. I would like to use sqlite3 to store these results, but I can't get it to work. The issue seems to be about the following line: conn = sqlite3.connect("mydatabase.db") If I put this line of code inside each thread, I get an OperationalError telling me that the database file is locked. I guess this means that another thread has mydatabase.db open through a sqlite3 connection and has locked it. If I put this line of code in the main program and pass the connection object (conn) to each thread, I get a ProgrammingError, saying that SQLite objects created in a thread can only be used in that same thread. Previously I was storing all my results in CSV files, and did not have any of these file-locking issues. Hopefully this will be possible with sqlite. Any ideas?

  Hi everyone, I am experiencing a problem that has popped up recently and is causing quite a bit of trouble for our system.   I have a script in which I add all new files before to commit my working copy to my repository with this line: svn status | grep ^\? | awk '{print $2}' | xargs svn add I now want to add a line that delete from repository all deleted files in my working copy. In other terms, I cannot specify them one by one, and I need to detect them with svn status and then automatically remove them. However the line doesn't work. svn status | grep ^\! | awk '{print $2}' | xargs svn --force delete As you can see I've replaced "?" with "!" and "add" with "--force delete" Could you tell me why it doesn't work ? ps. • Get a return value from a screen'd command

  I'm running a process in a screen (on Ubuntu 13.10, if it matters). I can execute a command within that screen with: screen -p 0 -X eval 'stuff \"$command\"\015' I'm not 100% sure what this command is doing to begin with, though it's functioning correctly. The reason behind it is I'm running a Minecraft server (still) and this screens in to the correct screen, and throws the command on the running command line. So that's good, so far. But what I'd like is to be able to run this command with a return value. So for example, if I were to run a "list" command, it'd tell me how many people and who is online, but I need to capture that output and put it somewhere. Anyone know of a way to accomplish this? I can't tell the minecraft server command line to redirect the output somewhere else since it doesn't have direct command line access, so the only way I could do this would be to grab all output of the screen while I'm connected ... but I'm not sure if that's possible.

  I have a Python script that process a huge text file (with around 4 millon lines) and writes the data into two separate files. I have added a print statement, which outputs a string for every line for debugging. I want to know how bad it could be from the performance perspective? If it is going to very bad, I can remove the debugging line. Edit It turns out that having a print statement for every line in a file with 4 million lines is increasing the time way too much.

  Hi all, I'm having a problem with getting a Ruby string substitution going. I'm writing a preprocessor for a limited language that I'm using, that doesn't natively support arrays, so I'm hacking in my own. I have a line: x[0] = x[1] & x[1] = x[2] I want to replace each instance with a reformatted version: x__0 = x__1 & x__1 = x__2 The line may include square brackets elsewhere. I've got a regex that will match the array use: array_usage = /(\w+)\[(\d+)\]/ but I can't figure out the Ruby construct to replace each instance one by one. I can't use .gsub() because that will match every instance on the line, and replace every array declaration with whatever the first one was. .scan() complains that the string is being modified if you try and use scan with a .sub()! inside a block. Any ideas would be appreciated!

• PHP exec problem with s3-put

  Hi there, I use the s3-bash-project to upload data to an S3-Bucket. My command looks like this: /mypath/s3_bash/s3-put -v -k '123456789' -s '/mypath/secret' -T '/mypath/upload/myuploadfile' '/my.bucket/mykeyname' I can run the command from the command line (Mac OS X), and it works well. Now I want to execute it from a PHP-Script: exec($command, $output); but in output, the "s3-put"-command only returns the command's help text. I log the command, and it works if I c&p it from the log the the command line, so there not a problem. It seems that PHP does not pass all the parameters to the command line, although I run escapeshellarg() over all the parameters. I'm using a local XAMPP-Test environment, safe_mode is off. Any ideas?

  I can see from this page here: http://www.linuxatemyram.com/ That the correct amount of free ram is on the "-/+ buffers/cache" line. The extra ram being used is for disk caching. However, I noticed that the total amount of memory used listed in "-/+ buffers/cache" line is significantly less than the sum total of the "RES" column of the processes shown in top. And AFAIK, the "RES" column is how much physical memory is being used by a process. How do you explain this discrepancy?

Somebody in my lab is doing a content analysis (e.g. reading an article or transcript line by line and identifying relevant themes) of the web presences of various privatized neuroimaging centers (e.g. http://www.canmagnetic.com/). She's been c/ping entire site maps by hand, and I know I could slap something together with Python to follow links and dump full text (with line numbers) for her, but I've never actually done anything quite like this. Each line was commited separately into git: http://pastebin.ca/raw/2136179 I then tried to delete the line two with the command git revert <commmit which creates two> And get: error: could not revert b4e0a66... second hint: after resolving the conflicts, mark the corrected paths hint: with 'git add <paths>' or 'git rm <paths>' hint: and commit the result with 'git commit' There should be no conflict for something this simple? Or am I doing it wrong/got the wrong command? • GIT not functionnal on Mac OS X Lion?

  I am trying to use GIT to manage my computing projects. But all commands using GIT do not respond on my terminal. For example if I try git --version followed by entry keyboard typing, a blank line appear and wait until ever. If I type again the entry key on my keyboard the command line is again available but nothing appear. It's the same for all git function that I type. Do you have any solution or explanation for this ?
