• How to have multiple tables with multiple joins

  I have three tables that I need to join together and get a combination of results. I have tried using left/right joins but they don't give the desired results. • DTGridView losting content while scrolling

  I am using DTGridView from the DTKit by Daniel Tull. I implemented it in a very simple ViewController and the test I am doing is to place a button in the last row of the grid, which should add another row to the grid (and therefor moving the button to a row beneath it). The problem is, when I click the button a couple of times and then start scrolling, the grid seems to lose its content. As I am not completly sure this is a bug in the grid, but more in my code, I hope you guys can help me out and track down the bug. The grid is filled with as many rows as my int 'rows' ( +1 ) has. The last row does NOT contain 3 columns, but just one. That cell contains a button which (when pressed) adds 1 to the 'rows' integer. The problem starts, when it starts reusing cells (I am guessing) and content start disappearing. When I scroll back up, the UILabels I am putting in the cells are gone. Is there some bug, code error, mistake, dumb-ass-move I am missing here? Hope anyone can help.

• Displaying tree path of record in SQL Server 2005

  An example of my tree table is: ([id] is an identity) [id], [parent_id], [path] 1, NULL, 1 2, 1, 1-2 3, 1, 1-3 4, 3, 1-3-4 My goal is to query quickly for multiple rows of this table and view the full path of the node from its root, through its superiors, down to itself. The ultimate question is, should I generate this path on inserts and maintain it in its own column or generate this path on query to save disk space? I guess it depends if this table is write heavy or read heavy. I've been contemplating several approaches to using the "path" characteristic of this parent/child relationship and I just can't seem to settle on one. This "path" is simply for display purposes and serves absolutely no purpose other than that. Here is what I have done to implement this "path." AFTER INSERT TRIGGER - requires passing a NULL path to the insert and updating the path for the record at the inserted rows identity INSTEAD OF INSERT TRIGGER - does not require insert to have NULL path passed, but does require the trigger to insert with a NULL path and updating the path for the record at SCOPE_IDENTITY() STORED PROCEDURE - requiring all inserts into this table to be done through the stored procedure implementing the trigger logic VIEW - requires building the path in the view 1 and 2 seem annoying if massive amounts of data are entered at once. 3 seems annoying because all inserts must go through the procedure in order to have a valid path populated. 1, 2, and 3 require maintaining a path column on the table. 4 removes all the limitations of the above but require the view to perform the path logic and requires use of the view if a path is to be displayed. I have successfully implemented all of the above approaches and I'm mainly looking for some advice. Am I way off the mark here or are any of the above acceptable? Each has it's advantages and disadvantages.

• Weird ViewControllers - iPhone SDK

  Hello everyone, I have a Tab-Bar Application for this iPhone application I am making. I make a simple button on the 3rd view (3rd tab), and give it an IBAction to give an alert view. When I press build and go, everything works out fine. I go onto the 3rd tab, and I press my button. It simply crashes... Why is this happening? Everything I put in this 3rd tab crashes. I create a simple view controller, and write the class files to start over, but I keep getting the same errors.. Everything works fine on my first tab, where I originally got the first view controller.. P.S It also says Incomplete Implementation of Class 'ThirdViewController'. I don't know why its there.. If anyone can help me out here, i would greatly appreciate it. Kevin

• Is NSManagedObjectContext autosaved or am I looking at NSFetchedResultsController's cache?

At first, I thought it was because the NSFetchedResultsController was reading from the cache, but as you can see I set this to nil just to test. Also, [context hasChanges] returns true after I restart. What am I missing here?

  Hi, I'm using Ruby 1.9 and I'm wondering if there's a simple regex way to do this. I have many strings that look like some variation of this: str = "Allocation: Random, Control: Active Control, Endpoint Classification: Safety Study, Intervention Model: Parallel Assignment, Masking: Double Blind (Subject, Caregiver, Investigator, Outcomes Assessor), Primary Purpose: Treatment" The idea is that I'd like to break this string into its functional components Allocation: Random Control: Active Control Endpoint Classification: Safety Study Intervention Model: Parallel Assignment Masking: Double Blind (Subject, Caregiver, Investigator, Outcomes, Assessor) Primary Purpose: Treatment The "syntax" of the string is that there is a "key" which consists of one or more "words or other characters" (e.g. Intervention Model) followed by a colon (:). Each key has a corresponding "value" (e.g., Parallel Assignment) that immediately follows the colon (:)…The "value" consists of words, commas (whatever), but the end of the "value" is signaled by a comma. The # of key/value pairs is variable. I'm also assuming that colons (:) aren't allowed to be part of the "value" and that commas (,) aren't allowed to be part of the "key". One would think that there is a "regexy" way to break this into its component pieces, but my attempt at making an appropriate matching regex only picks up the first key/value pair and I'm not sure how to capture the others. • How can I get a custom UITableView to automatically scroll to a selected text field?

  I have a UITableView, which I am controlling from a custom UIViewController. When the user clicks the 'add' button, I add a row to the UITableView with a text field in it, and make it the first responder. The problem is, when the bottom of the table is out of view (or hidden by the keyboard), the UITableView doesn't scroll to bring the text field into view. UITableViewController does this automatically, but my View Controller can't be a subclass of UITableViewController.

• NSLinguisticTagger on the contents of an NSTextStorage- crashing bug

  I'm trying to use an NSLinguisticTagger to monitor the contents of an NSTextStorage and provide some contextual information based on what the user types. To that end, I have an OverlayManager object, which wires up this relationship: -(void) setView:(NSTextView*) view { _view = view; _layout = view.layoutManager; _storage = view.layoutManager.textStorage; //get the TextStorage from the view [_tagger setString:_storage.string]; //pull the string out, this grabs the mutable version [self registerForNotificationsOn:self->_storage]; //subscribe to the willProcessEditing notification } When an edit occurs, I make sure to trap it and notify the tagger (and yes, I know I'm being annoyingly inconsistent with member access, I'm rusty on Obj-C, I'll fix it later): - (void) textStorageWillProcessEditing:(NSNotification*) notification{ if ([self->_storage editedMask] & NSTextStorageEditedCharacters) { NSRange editedRange = [self->_storage editedRange]; NSUInteger delta = [self->_storage changeInLength]; [_tagger stringEditedInRange:editedRange changeInLength:delta]; //should notify the tagger of the changes [self highlightEdits:self]; } } The highlightEdits message delegates the job out to a pool of "Overlay" objects. Each contains a block of code similar to this: [tagger enumerateTagsInRange:range scheme:NSLinguisticTagSchemeLexicalClass options:0 usingBlock:^(NSString *tag, NSRange tokenRange, NSRange sentenceRange, BOOL *stop) { if (tag == PartOfSpeech) { [self applyHighlightToRange:tokenRange onStorage:storage]; } }]; And that's where the problem is- the enumerateTagsInRange method crashes out with a message: 2014-06-04 10:07:19.692 WritersEditor[40191:303] NSMutableRLEArray replaceObjectsInRange:withObject:length:: Out of bounds This problem doesn't occur if I don't link to the mutable copy of the underlying string and instead do a [[_storage string] copy], but obviously I don't want to copy the entire backing store every time I want to do tagging. This all should be happening in the main run loop, so I don't think this is a threading issue. The NSRange I'm enumerating tags on exists both in the NSTextStorage and in the NSLinguisticTagger's view of the string. It's not even the fact that the applyHighlightToRange call adds attributes to the string, because it crashes before even reaching that line. I attempted to build a test case around the problem, but can't replicate it in those situations: - (void) testEdit { NSAttributedString* str = [[NSMutableAttributedString alloc] initWithString:@"Quickly, this is a test."]; text = [[NSTextStorage alloc] initWithAttributedString:str]; NSArray* schemes = [NSLinguisticTagger availableTagSchemesForLanguage:@"en"]; tagger = [[NSLinguisticTagger alloc] initWithTagSchemes:schemes options:0]; [tagger setString:[text string]]; [text beginEditing]; [[text mutableString] appendString:@"T"]; NSRange edited = [text editedRange]; NSUInteger length = [text changeInLength]; [text endEditing]; [tagger stringEditedInRange:edited changeInLength:length]; [tagger enumerateTagsInRange:edited scheme:NSLinguisticTagSchemeLexicalClass options:0 usingBlock:^(NSString *tag, NSRange tokenRange, NSRange sentenceRange, BOOL *stop) { //doesn't matter, this should crash }]; } That code doesn't crash.

• Android ViewFlipper is out of control

  I have an app that uses a ViewFlipper to display some text and images. I have the flipper's flipinterval set to 10 seconds, but also want to allow the user to click a button that will advance the flipper. The code blow works great on 2.2, the view is changed every 10 seconds and if I click flip_button the view is changed and the auto flip steps back in 10 seconds later. The 1.5 and 1.6 versions will remember the manual advance and it will happen every time in the rotation. • Auto-rotating freshly created interface

  Hello! I have trouble with auto-rotating interfaces in my iPad app. I have a class called Switcher that observes the interface rotation notifications and when it receives one, it switches the view in window, a bit like this: - (void) orientationChanged: (NSNotification*) notice { UIDeviceOrientation newIO = [[UIDevice currentDevice] orientation]; UIViewController *newCtrl = /* something based on newIO */; [currentController.view removeFromSuperview]; // remove the old view [window addSubview newCtrl.view]; [self setCurrentController:newCtrl]; } The problem is that the new view does not auto-rotate. My auto-rotation callback in the controller class looks like this: - (BOOL) shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation: (UIInterfaceOrientation) io { NSString *modes[] = {@"unknown", @"portrait", @"portrait down", @"landscape left", @"landscape right"}; NSLog(@"shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation: %i (%@)", io, modes[io]); return YES; } But no matter how I rotate the device, I find the following in the log: shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation: 1 (portrait) shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation: 1 (portrait) …and the willRotateToInterfaceOrientation:duration: does not get called at all. Now what? The orientation changing is becoming my least favourite part of the iPhone SDK… (I can’t check the code on the device yet, could it be a bug in the simulator?) PS. • How to add a field from a 2nd form?

  Hi all. I'm modifying an existing Lotus view to include a field from another form. I first appended a new column and set it to the desired field. However, after I refreshed, the new column was blank even though I know it has data. I then updated the View Selection formula from: SELECT Form = "A" & StatusIndex < "06" to: SELECT (Form = "A"| Form = "B") & StatusIndex < "06" Still no luck. The view is refreshing successfully, but the new field is still blank. What else is there to add this new column to this view? This is my first time experimenting with Lotus, so if I seem to be missing some major concept, I probably am.
