I'm using Log4Net to write logs to files. Can this serioulsy slow down my application? I know it depends on how much I'm writing away, but let's say that some hundreds of logs can be written per second.
Can a PHP application have too many functions? Does the execution of a large number of PHP functions hog memory and resources? My WordPress theme in-development has a lot of functions (probably more than 100 by the time I'm done) and I'm concerned that I might have too many.
I've got to convert a not terribly complicated bespoke project management system from MsAccess Application to PHP/MySQL. I've been programming for donkey's years but embarrassingly know practically nothing about modern methodologies.
So the old 'learning curve' versus 'improved efficiency' conundrum rears its ugly head once again.
Although I've Googled up some stuff I don't want to prejudice your suggestions, where would you start, I'm at your mercy?
Is it possible to obtain some kind of statistics on which user spent how much time on which application when they log into Google Apps?

I know a lot of Adobe Flex out-of-browser applications, almost all of them being Twitter clients :)

Do you use any?
How can I reliability detect whether my Azure application is running in development fabric and not in 'the cloud' ?
RoleEnvironment.IsAvailable is true for both. I want something that is true in only one case.
I'm asking this because I want users of my library to be able to use my library for free in dev fabric. Hence manually putting seperate identifier or flag in config file and keeping two configs for dev and deploy is not feasible.
Up to now, I've only distributed a few apps by sending .apk files around. I was wondering how Android Market prevents users from distributing a paid application to other people.
What would be the best approach to migrate a .NET Windows Service to Linux using mono? I've been trying to avoid executing the application as a scheduled command.
Is it possible to obtain a service/system daemon(in linux) like behavior?
One consequence of the keyboard-restriction change is that pressing ESC will not exit full-screen mode in trusted applications. This enables you to use the ESC key for other functionality. However, you must provide your own user interface for exiting full-screen mode.
Reference: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee721083(v=VS.95).aspx#fullscreen_support
I need to make pressing ESC will exit from full-screen mode in trusted application without provide a UI control in all pages.
Please give me hints, thank you.
I need to create a simple program/utility to parse a txt file (deleting blank rows, concatenating lines, etc) that runs in Windows XP and can be called from a Windows command line. What programming language/environment best fits this type of application?
Thanks, I hope I'm not being vague.
recently I found an interesting site that provides Internet fax services via internet
I am learning programming and I was inspired to make an application that could send faxes from my PC, any ideas or suggestions?
Hi guys,
I'm working my way through some tutorials. I see the Zendcasts tutorials have me setting up a lot of things in the bootstrap.php file, while with the quickstart and other tutorials, don't even touch that file and do a lot of changes in the application.ini file.
What is the difference between the two and why use one over the other?
Thanks!
I found a great control with example here for mvc
It fulfills all my requirement but the problem is that it uses a js tree dll.
Should I go on and used that example in my application?
Do you people refrain from using 3rd party free dll in applications?
How will I tell that it will not expire or not cause problem later on
Forgive me if this is inappropriate question but thx in advance for any appropiate reply on this topic. just trying to get the point of view of you people on this
I have a ton (about 300) of IIS sites on a server that need to be moved to a new Application Pool. I could do it programmatically using the C# DirectoryEntry class, but I'm wondering if there's any easier way?
I have a .net application that uses some API calls, for example GetPrivateProfileString. So far it has always run on 32-bit machines.
In order to run on 64-bit machines, must I change the "Platform Target" to "x86"? Or is there a way to let the runtime know which API DLL to invoke depending on the runtime environment?
We have a Asp.Net Vb.Net application with around 35 webforms. There are some remote users who do not have the functional idea of the webforms. So i was thinking of adding a help file in my project. Is there any special component or javascript ? will it be a good option if i go with form by form or a single help file ?
Which control should i use?
I don't want the records to be displayed on the Windows Application list in the same way records displayed in database as this:
I want the records to be displayed statically and a user when right click a record, he/she gets Edit and Remove choices. Of course there has to be static headers at the top.
I hope my request is clear.

How can we add an icon for a finished iPhone application?

Keeping it simple, I have a server and client. The server sends questions one by one and the client the answers, as soon as they are given.
So, would you say this application is real time?
What can I do to make my PHP web application fail in a more noisy way?
I am using an MVC pattern and often when classes fail to load or failures they do so without error.
Hello,
I'm working on a ColdFusion dynamic website. For this website, there are a lot of CFCs and a lot of functions within each CFC. Would it be more efficient to store an instance of the CFC in an application variable, then to instance each CFC separately on each page load.
For each page, at most 2 separate CFCs get called. I'm also interested in how performance will be effected when requests increase (Stress).
Thanks!
Hi,
I am playing with the Demo SoftKeyboard the comes with the Android SDK.
In portrait mode when the candidate view is shown, it doesn't move the app up as the default android keyboard does. Hence it covers part of the application view.
What should be changed in order to make the candidate view in the demo softkeyboard behave as the default android keyboard does?
I've also looked at the source of the android keyboard from git but found nothing related to this behavior.
Is it possible for an Adobe AIR application to connect to a remove webservice that does not expose a cross-domain.xml file? If so, how do you configure the security sandbox within Air to allow this?
