• Any recommendations for a domain buying negotiating service? [closed]

  The best domain for my niche and related is owned by a guy in San Fransisco, and I want to buy the domain from him but I don't want to deal with him directly (even though he has contacted me in the past). I need to find an intermediary company that can handle the negotiation for me. I don't expect to have to pay much since the guy has been squatting on it for more than 15 years and according to the Internet Wayback Machine it has never actually been used for anything at all - he has never added any value to it. It kind of irritates me that such a good domain has been sitting in this guy's closet gather dust for 15 years. I know that GoDaddy has a domain buying negotiating service (and the domain is registered through them, which may make it easier), but I really, really do not want to do business with GoDaddy if I don't have too. Do any of you know of other firms that deal with this sort of thing?

• How do you handle domain logic that spans multiple model objects in an ORM?

  So I know that business logic should be placed in the model. But using an ORM it is not as clear where I should place code that handles multiple objects. E.g. let's say we have a Customer model which has a type of either sporty or posh and we wanted to customer.add_bonus() to every posh customer. Where would we do this? Do we create a new class to handle all this? If yes, where do we put it (alongside all the other model classes, but not subclass it from the ORM?)? I'm currently using django framework in python, so specific suggestions are even more wanted.

• Reputable web host in mainland China? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How to find web hosting that meets my requirements? We currently have a rather poorly set up Windows 2003 box with little to no support based in Shanghai; with no control panel/mail server. I am told for legal/business reasons the host must be based in the same location as the company for the website; but this could well be misinformation. Are there any well-known, quality hosts in China that offer reliable English-speaking support? We did consider GoDaddy on the west coast of America, but were informed of the risk of the site being shut down without any notice. We don't have any technically-minded contacts out there to advise, and hoping that someone will have some more experience in this department. Thank you.

  My site is working if i type it as domain.com. But If I type it as www.domain.com I get an error 404 page. The domain is registered with Google Apps for Business and the hosting is done with another company. I have some A records that are pointing the site to this server. However, as it appears the A records are only working halfway. What do I have to do to make it working for both http:// and http://www ?

• Where to go from here, how to improve / learn more

  I finished University around 4 years ago double degree in Software Eng/Comp Sci. Got my first job at a startup in my final year, was with them for 2.5 years then started my own business. So far everything is going great, lots of clients and stead work etc, but coming right out of uni and into a start up I never had any form or senior software engineer guiding my work or suggesting improvements etc... Whats the best way for me to improve & learn more? Books? MS Exams? Other? I develop in C#, ASP.NET/MVC. Update The problem isn't really with releasing products, I've released quite a few which are up and running with customers happy. It's more with quality of code, best practices, how do I know something I am code is correct, it may work but there may be ways of coding it much more efficiently or by adhering to some kind of standard Cheers for any responses!   If you were looking into a job applicant's background and discovered that he or she has 1200 followers on Twitter and averages 50 tweets per day (more than half of which are during business hours), would it affect your hiring decision? How and why? Personally, I'd be a little worried about the candidate's ability to focus on the job at hand if they're constantly checking in with their 'tweeps' thoughout the day. In non-tech jobs, a lot of companies simply block Twitter as an irrelevant distraction. But it can be a useful resource---to programmers in particular. I just wonder how much is too much. At what point does it become a red flag?

  The place I work is now looking into developing a new e-commerce site on the Magento platform. Magento will fill all of our needs. I was just wondering if it is in anyway unprofessional doing it this way (Impression is something we are really worried about), will people who visit the site look at our business different knowing we used Magento or any other e-commerce platform. There are ways to find out. I use Chrome Sniffer to find out what platforms are used to develop each site, there are other tools available for different browsers. Bottom-line: Will an e-commerce platform affect the trust in my brand?

• List item stuck in "Pending"

  Problem simplified: On approval, you have an event receiver that changes a field according to some weird and wonderful business logic. But the item remains in "Pending" state. Why?   First, you obviously need to turn off the event handling when you change things in the event receiver. If not, the event receiver will be called because the item changed. Infinite recursion is a bad thing. But you guessed that.   But that's not what was wrong. The culprit in my case was that items are set to require a new approval whenever the item is changed. This is good, but not what we want in this particular case. So force it back to approved after the other column has been changed.

• Extracting, Transforming, and Loading (ETL) Process

  The process of Extracting, Transforming, and Loading data in to a data warehouse is called Extract Transform Load (ETL) process.  This process can be used to obtain, analyze, and clean data from various data sources so that it can be stored in a uniform manner within a data warehouse. This data can then be used by various business intelligence processes to provide an organization with more of an in depth analysis of the current state of the company and where it is heading. A standard ETL process that might be used by a health care system may include importing all of their patients names, diagnoses and prescriptions in to a unified data warehouse so that trends can be spotted in regards to outbreaks like the flu and also predict potential illness that a patient might be affected by based on other patients with similar symptoms.
