• Domain and TS migration

  The migration steps outlined by Microsoft in the ts migration seem to deal with moving TS to a different server on the same domain and call for adding the licensing service to another system, move the licenses and then put TS on whatever server you want. However with migrating the domain as well I don't have any place to move the TS server to. So my thought was to simply re-activate my licenses on the new server using the same method as a new TS setup. My question is essentially will this work the way I think it will or will the MS activation clearing house deny the new server? Is there a procedure to follow that "deactivates" the licenses on a server so that the clearing house knows there are some free? (FWIW I can look up the license information through the eopen website and have access to the original license doc.)

• Controlling what data populates STAR

  Beginning with the Primavera Reporting Database 2.2\P6 Analytics 1.2 release, the first release that supported the P6 Extended Schema, a new ability was added to filter which projects could be included during an ETL run. In previous releases, all projects were included in an ETL run. Additionally, all projects with the option to enable publication are included in the ETL run by default.Because the reporting needs for P6 Extended Schema are different from those of STAR, you can define a filter that will limit the data that is included in the STAR schema. For example, your STAR schema can be filter to only include all projects in a specific Portfolio, or all projects with a project code assignment of 'For Analytics.'  Any criteria that can be defined in a Where clause and added to a view can be used to filter the projects included in the STAR schema. I highly suggest this approach when dealing with large databases. Unnecessary projects could cause the Extract portion of the ETL process to take longer. A table in STAR called etl_projectlist is the key for what projects are targeted during the ETL process. To setup the filter, perform the following steps:1. Connect to your Primavera P6 Project Management Database as Pxrptuser (extended schema owner) and create a new view:create or replace view star_project_viewasselect PROJECTOBJECTID objectidfrom projectportfolio pp, projectprojectportfolio pppwhere pp.objectid = ppp.PROJECTPORTFOLIOOBJECTIDand pp.name = 'STAR Projects'--The main field that MUST be selected in the view is the projectobjectid. Selecting any other field besides the projectobjectid will cause the view to be invalid and will not work. Any Where clause can be used, but projectobjectid is the key.2. In your STAR installation directory go the \res folder and edit the staretl.properties file.  Here you will define the view to be used.  Add the following line or update if exists:star.project.filter.ds1=star_project_view3. When running the  staretl.cmd or staretl.sh process the database link to Pxrtpuser will be accessed and this view will be used to populate the etl_projectlist table  with the appropriate projectobjectids as defined in the view created in step 1 above.

• Supervisor HTTP Server Port Issue.

  I have supervisor setup to manage a few processes. It works perfectly fine when I boot my server, however when I stop it and try to start it again it fails and give's me this error msg: * Starting Supervisor daemon manager... Error: Another program is already listening on a port that one of our HTTP servers is configured to use. Shut this program down first before starting supervisord. For help, use /usr/bin/supervisord -h ...fail! I'm running nginx on port 80 and 4 web servers on ports 8000, 8001, 8002, 8003 Does anyone have any idea of what is going on? When I reboot everything works fine.

• I cannot install flash player, I am getting 1603 exit code

  I am trying to install flash player silently, using a powershell script. I do not think it is being installed. I looked under "control panel-uninstall programs" I don't see flash player listed there. Also, I am printing the exit code for the process and it prints 1603 exit code, which is "fatal error during installation" As an experiment, I double click on the flash player .msi file, and it gave me 1722 error " Error 1722.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. "

• Clustering in GlassFish with DCOM on Windows 7

  I've discovered that Windows 7 makes it very difficult to use DCOM and, mainly, the GlassFish clustering commands that rely on DCOM.  I spent a few days trying to solve the problems.  I don't yet have a cookbook for making DCOM work on Windows 7.  But here are a few tips and advice I've found. run asadmin setup-local-dcom -- It now comes automatically with the open source GlassFish 4.  It will write some critical registry entries for you.  run asadmin validate-dcom to test dcom 3.   When I ran validate-dcom on my Windows 7 network I saw the problem below: Successfully resolved host name to: gloin/10.28.51.10 Successfully connected to DCOM Port at port 135 on host gloin. Successfully connected to NetBIOS Session Service at port 139 on host gloin.Successfully connected to Windows Shares at port 445 on host gloin.Can not access the remote file system.  Is UAC on? : Access is denied. I discovered the actual problem is that Windows 7 no longer has the "C$" Administrative file share available by default. If "C$" isn't available then nothing will work. Here is how to expose the "C$" share: Registry Change -- this change allows “C$” to be accessed.  As soon as I set it -- the file copying started working!  [1] regkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System create this key, 32 bit word, with value == 1 LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy 4.  Turn on the Remote Registry Service -- This is critical and it's easy to do. Windows 7 has it turned off by default. MyComputer-right click, manage, services, then turn on Remote Registry Service and set it to start automatically in the fture. 5. Turn off UAC: %systemroot%\system32\UserAccountControlSettings.exe 6. This is where I discovered that McAfee virus scanner blocks all the NetBios shares!  It has to be disabled.

  I have a Linksys WRT54GL router that I don't need anymore, since I had to buy a 3G capable router (Dovado 3GN). As I only have a 3G connection at home, I want to optimize it as much as possible. I want to setup a caching DNS server, including some blacklisting of ad domains. The router currently runs the DD-WRT firmware. Is it possible to use this router as an ordinary computer, running only a DNS server, disabling all other features such as DHCP, WLAN, etc? Connecting it to my other router, should I simply run a cable into the WAN-port of the Linksys router?

  I'm about to go choose a dual monitor setup: 1) Is there any reason why I can't just walk out and buy the two TFT screens I like (a wide screen and a 'portrait' screen) and combine them? Mainly wide screen would be for gaming, and portrait for browsing. I'd want the desktop stretching from one to the other (ie drag pointer, apps from one screen to the other) 2) Also do I need separate gfx cards for each monitor or can one cover both? any performance cost? 3) And can I have separate background images for each, seeing as they'll be different resolutions?

• Google Blogger Website CName and/or Text File Issues

  I have a blogger Blog website and I would like to have it show up on my company website. I have read a couple articles out there on how to do it. A hand full of them talk about using FTP which is old and no longer available. However, I am trying to following along with this one: http://www.infinite42.com/small-business/integrate-blogger-blog-website Which seems pretty easy but I am having a problem getting Google to Verify the DNS CName or Text Record that I created on my Windows 2007 Server. Do I need to create this record at the registra level. Right now the domain is setup at the registra to point the www record to my server where on my server I tried the Txt Record and the CName Record with no luck in DNS. Here are the Google instructions for creating a CName file record in DNS: Follow the steps below to create a DNS (Domain Name System) record that proves to Google that you own the domain. Add the CNAME record below to the DNS configuration for abc.com. CNAME Label / Host: CNAME Destination / Target: Click Verify below. When Google finds this DNS record, we'll make you a verified owner of the domain. (Note: DNS changes may take some time. If we don't find the record immediately, we'll check for it periodically.) To stay verified, don't remove the DNS record, even after verification succeeds.   I know this is yet another question on how to setup network but I hope you are not bored of such questions yet. The site is also an office, so it includes windows dc, windows ad, exchange, sql, file sharing, development app servers and other pcs. In addition to office (internal) things, there are both test and prod environments consisting of a web server-app server-sql stack. There is also ftp service open to public. I consider: dmz1 - web server - exchange edge - ftp dmz2 - app server - sql for app server internal - dc and ad - exchange hub and transport - internal file sharing - sql for internal use - app servers for internal use - pcs public - dmz1, only web, ftp and smtp public - dmz2 not possible public - internal not possible dmz1 - dmz2 is possible from web servers to app servers by using http or ajp dmz1 - internal is only possible for exchange, otherwise not possible dmz2 - internal not possible Does this sound ok ? Any other recommendations ? It will be configured using either MS ISA or Jupiter SSG. Thank you.

• Do you know the minimum builds to create on any branch?

  You should always have three builds on your team project. These should be setup and tested using an empty solution before you write any code at all. Figure: Three builds named in the format [TeamProject].[AreaPath]_[Branch].[Gate|CI|Nightly] for every branch.   These builds should use the same XAML build workflow; however you may set them up to run a different set of tests depending on the time it takes to run a full build. Gate – Only needs to run the smallest set of tests, but should run most if not all of the Unit Test. This is run before developers are allowed to check-in CI – This should run all Unit Tests and all of the automated UI tests. It is run after a developer check-in. Nightly – The Nightly build should run all of the Unit Tests, all of the Automated UI tests and all of the Load and Performance tests. The nightly build is time consuming and will run but once a night. Packaging of your Product for testing the next day may be done at this stage as well. Figure: You can control what tests are run and what data is collected while they are running. Note: We do not run all the tests every time because of the time consuming nature of running some tests, but ALL tests should be run overnight. • How to solve 404 for static files with Django and Nginx?

  I setup a Trusty VM with Django + Nginx (other stuffs too). The server is working, I get the "Welcome to Django" page. But when I enter to servername/admin it loads the HTML page but fails to load the static content. • VMware Virtual vCenter and High Availability

  To continue with this question: Should be Vmware vCenter server high available? According to the response there even if vCenter is down HA will continue to work. So, if my vCenter is a VM, using the express sql edition in the same VM, and that VM is hosted in the same cluster it manages (and the cluster is setup for HA): Am I correct to assume that if the host that hosts the vCenter goes down HA will vmotion the vCenter VM to another host and it will continue to function? BTW: my environment is small, two ESXi 5.0 hosts, with about 50 VMs, using iSCSI shared storaged for everything.

  Here's what the log file c:/Windows/debug/mrt.log of my Windows 7 install says: WARNING: Security policy doesn't allow for all actions MSRT may require. ->Scan ERROR: resource process://pid:6080 (code 0x00000005 (5)) ->Scan ERROR: resource process://pid:5300 (code 0x00000057 (87)) ->Scan ERROR: resource process://pid:3512 (code 0x00000057 (87)) I use the default setup. I didn't change anything. This is the first time I checked the log file and this warning is in there from the start. Can I do something about it? Or I shouldn't be concerned, because it can do everything what's necessary anyway? Do you have this warning in your logfile?

Here are the steps you need to do to update or create a new file in MDS 1) Browse to AIA_HOME/AIAMetaData 2) Place your file(it may be new file or modified existing file) at the desired location.   I have setup windows live mail with my gmail account in IMAP mode. When I draft an email and save it. It saves in the drafts automatically. Within a minute, my WLM sound alerts new mail and shows mail icon in the system tray. However, this is for the draft I have saved which appears unread. To make the mail notification icon go away in the system tray, I go off and mark the draft as read. This repetition is tedious and distracting. How can I avoid this annoyance? thanks

  I am in the process of reinstalling the OS on a machine that will be used to host a couple of apps for our business. The apps will be local only; access from external clients will be via vpn only. The prior setup used a hosting control panel (Plesk) for most of the admin, and I was looking at using another similar piece of software for the reinstall - but I figured I should finally learn how it all works. I can do most of the things the software would do for me, but am unclear on the symbiosis of it all. This is all an attempt to further distance myself from the land of Configuration Programmer/Programmer, if at all possible. I can't find a full walkthrough anywhere for what I'm looking for, so I thought I'd put up this question, and if people can help me on the way I will edit this with the answers, and document my progress/pitfalls. Hopefully someday this will help someone down the line. The details: CentOS 5.5 x86_64 httpd: Apache/2.2.3 mysql: 5.0.77 (to be upgraded) php: 5.1 (to be upgraded) The requirements: SECURITY!! Secure file transfer Secure client access (SSL Certs and CA) Secure data storage Virtualhosts/multiple subdomains Local email would be nice, but not critical The Steps: Download latest CentOS DVD-iso (torrent worked great for me). Install CentOS: While going through the install, I checked the Server Components option thinking I was going to be using another Plesk-like admin. In hindsight, considering I've decided to try to go my own way, this probably wasn't the best idea. Basic config: Setup users, networking/ip address etc. Yum update/upgrade. Upgrade PHP/MySQL: To upgrade PHP and MySQL to the latest versions, I had to look to another repo outside CentOS. IUS looks great and I'm happy I found it!   Hi guys, I have a linksys router WRT54G2 connected to a cable broadband. Just last week, everything was working perfectly - I would be able to connect my laptop to the internet using WiFi. However, starting last week, I suddenly lost my internet connection. At first I thought something was wrong with my ISP. However, when I tried connecting the cable directly to my laptop, I found out that there was no problem with the internet connection after all. It appears that it is only my router that cannot get IP address. I have already tried cloning my MAC address and reconfiguring my router using the setup CD, but nothing worked.   I need to download a particular NNTP group. I do not need to setup any crons, put group contents in /opt and other stuff. Just run <fetch-nntp> <server> <group-name> <output-dir> and be done with it without putting a lot of garbage in the system. If that <fetch-nntp> would not fetch the same messages on the second run — fine. But I can live without it. All NNTP clients that I've looked at are trying to be a NNTP server as well. Is there something simpler that is suitable for my needs?

• How should I safely send bulk mail? [closed]

  First of all, we have a large software system we've developed and have a number of clients using it in their own environment. Each of them is responsible for using their own equipment and resources, we don't provide any services to share with them. We have introduced an automated email system which sends emails automatically via SMTP. Usually, it only sends around 10-20 emails a day, but it's very possible to send bulk email up to thousands of people in a single day. This of course requires a big haul of work, which isn't necessarily the problem. The issue arises when it comes to the SMTP server we're using. An email server is issued a number of relays a day, which is paid for. This isn't really necessarily the issue either. The risk is getting the email server blacklisted. It's inevitable, and we need to carefully take all this into consideration. As far as I can see, the ideal setup would be to have at least 50 IP addresses on multiple servers, each of which hosts its own SMTP server. When sending bulk email, it will divide them up across these servers, and each one will process its own queue. If one of those IP's gets blacklisted, it will be decommissioned and a new IP will replace it. Is there a better way that doesn't require us to invest in a large handful of servers? Perhaps a third party service which is meant exactly for this?

  I am using an iMac to share a wired network connection with other devices in my house. I am using Apple's built-in sharing functionality which works very well. I have also been using Tunnelblick as an OpenVPN client. The two technologies work great when they are not used together. The moment I connect to my VPN, sharing stops working on all other devices; the whole point of this setup was for me to share my VPN connection. Is there a way to make Internet connection sharing and OpenVPN work together on the Mac? I am using Snow Leopard.

• Common Live Upgrade problems

  As I have worked with customers deploying Live Upgrade in their environments, several problems seem to surface over and over. With this blog article, I will try to collect these troubles, as well as suggest some workarounds. If this sounds like the beginnings of a Wiki, you would be right. At present, there is not enough material for one, so we will use this blog for the time being. I do expect new material to be posted on occasion, so if you wish to bookmark it for future reference, a permanent link can be found here. Live Upgrade copies over ZFS root clone This was introduced in Solaris 10 10/09 (u8) and the root of the problem is a duplicate entry in the source boot environments ICF configuration file. Prior to u8, a ZFS root file system was not included in /etc/vfstab, since the mount is implicit at boot time. Starting with u8, the root file system is included in /etc/vfstab, and when the boot environment is scanned to create the ICF file, a duplicate entry is recorded. Here's what the error looks like. # lucreate -n s10u9-baseline Checking GRUB menu... System has findroot enabled GRUB Analyzing system configuration. Comparing source boot environment file systems with the file system(s) you specified for the new boot environment. Determining which file systems should be in the new boot environment. The symptoms are lucreate times that are way too long due to the extraneous copy, or the one that alerted me to the problem, the root file system is filling up - again thanks to a redundant copy. This problem has already been identified and corrected, and a patch (121431-58 or later for x86, 121430-57 for SPARC) is available. Unfortunately, this patch has not yet made it into the Solaris 10 Recommended Patch Cluster. Applying the prerequisite patches from the latest cluster is a recommendation from the Live Upgrade Survival Guide blog, so an additional step will be required until the patch is included. The auto registration file is mandatory for this upgrade. Use -k argument along with luupgrade command. autoreg_file is path to auto registration information file. See sysidcfg(4) for a list of valid keywords for use in this file. The format of the file is as follows. oracle_user=xxxx oracle_pw=xxxx http_proxy_host=xxxx http_proxy_port=xxxx http_proxy_user=xxxx http_proxy_pw=xxxx For more details refer "Oracle Solaris 10 9/10 Installation Guide: Planning for Installation and Upgrade". As with the previous problem, this is also easy to work around. Assuming that you don't want to use the auto-registration feature at upgrade time, create a file that contains just autoreg=disable and pass the filename on to luupgrade. • Nvidia API mismatch

  I had planned a day of relaxing with Portal 2 but on starting Steam (for the first time in a couple of weeks) I was greeted with the following message in the terminal: Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version 270.41.19, but this NVIDIA driver component has version 270.41.06. Please make sure that the kernel module and all NVIDIA driver components have the same version. I'll confess I don't really know what it's talking about when it says driver. The verion of nvidia-current is 270.41.19. I thought that was the driver and module, all in one. I use the X-SWAT PPA and I have noted that the nvidia-settings package has boosted to 275.09.07. As this is just a settings application, I don't think this mismatch has anything to do with this. It's also not the same version as the problem being described. I'd rather not purge back to the standard Nvidia driver as it's less than stable on my GTX580. I would accept an answer that takes the manual setup and makes it recompile when the kernel recompiles (ie, some DKMS wizardry) but it has to work. I don't want to drop back to text-mode every time I restart after a kernel upgrade. Edit: Minecraft works without a single complaint about driver versions. Penumbra dies with roughly the same error when entering a game.
