  • autoreload webpage on new release

    I have a website in PHP which is completely ajax-based. There is an index.php, but a part from it, all the other page are never rendered directly into the browser. Instead, all the post and get request are done tfrom javascript through ajax. So basically, if you go to /contact.php you will not see anything. All the pages are rendered inside index.php. So, there are a lot of people that use this page that are not very good in using the web. Asking them to "refresh" the page makes them to wonder what we are talking about. Unfortunately. The biggest issue happens when we do a new release. Especially the javascript code (but not only) can be the old one in a client's webpage as they maybe havent refreshed the page for some week (lol). S I do an svn-update and the new code is on the server. I just refresh my page and see the new features. However, the poor guys that dont really know how to make a refresh, will not see anything. I have added a big button on the page with the text "refresh". Which makes a location.reload. Hopefully this can help a few of them. But my question is: how to "force" the browser to reload itself when a new svn-version has been released? Hopefully in a simple way, without needing some node.js, javascript timer or stuff like that. It is also quite important to not refresh the page when the user is doing something with the page (maybe writing a mail in the UI, and then suddenly the page get refreshed: not so good).

  • URL path changes between dev and published version

    I just got Scott Hanselman's chat app with SignalR working with ASP.NET MVC 4. After hours of configuration, trial and error, and getting different versions of Windows to talk to each other on my home network, it's all working except that I'm left with one issue that I'm not sure how to handle. This line of javascript has to change, depending on if I'm running the app through Visual Studio or the published (IIS) version: Works when running within VS: var connection = $.connection('echo'); Works with published version: var connection = $.connection('ChatWithSignalR/echo'); When I run within VS, the URL is: http://localhost:9145/ And the published version is: http://localhost/ChatWithSignalR If I don't change that line of code, and try to run the app within VS, using the javascript that has ChatWithSignalR in it, I get an error like this: Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found) http://localhost:9145/ChatWithSignalR/echo/negotiate?_=1347809290826 What can I do so that I can use the same javascript code and have it work in both scenarios? var connection = $.connection('??????'); Note, this is in my Global.asax.cs: RouteTable.Routes.MapConnection<MyConnection>("echo", "echo/{*operation}");

  • Show my website's content on other websites. Is iframe only option?

    In my project, I have created a code snippet which can be copied and then put in any website. It shows my content on other websites. What I am using now is : <script type='text/javascript'> var user = 'abc'; var age = '23'; document.write('<iframe src="http://www.mysite.com/page.php?user='+ user + '&age=' + age + '" ></iframe'); </script> In page.php, I do some processing based on user and age and show dynamic content. My approach works fine. But when I look into some good standard ways to do such tasks, I find a different way. Take an example of google adsense code. <script type='text/javascript'> var a = 'somedata'; var b = 'someotherdata'; </script> <script type='text/javascript' src='http://www.google.com/adsenseurl.js'></script> I guess, since a and b are global; adsenseurl.js must be using it and may be finally they are showing it on iframe. So, now the question. What's the advantage in using google's approach and whats wrong in my approach ? p.s. I know I should try to avoid using iframes but I dont see any other way to accomplish this.

  • need help speeding up tag cloud filter for IE

  • Keeping a web app project organized?

    Hi, I'm writing a web app, using jsp to create the page content. I need a pretty good amount of javascript to make the app work. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to structure my project, such that it doesn't become a mess? This is a broad question, but the basic problem is that I'm insert javascript code directly into my jsp content. Then I might have some external js files. Ids and such are strewn between multiple files. I'm not really sure what a best practice is for keeping this type of project organized. Do you always keep your javascript in separate files? There has to be a few hooks in the jsp pages though for them, right? I tried using GWT because I'm really a c/java developer, and I was hoping it would help keep my project more organized (definitely helps) - but GWT is a pain to use with jsp, it really wants you to do all UI generation client side after the page is done loading, doesn't work for what I need to do. Again, broad question, any tips would be great, Thanks

    Had this closed once as a duplicate, yet the so-called duplicate DID NOT actually address my whole question. I have found this script that, when run inline, returns your IP. <script type="text/javascript" src="http://l2.io/ip.js"></script> http://l2.io/ip.js Has nothing more than a line of code that says document.write('123.123.123.123'); (But obviously with the user's IP address) I want to use this IP address as a return string for a function DEFINED EXTERNALLY, BUT STILL ON MY DOMAIN. That is, I have a "scripts.js" that contains all the scripts I wish to use, and I would like to include it in that list as a local function that calls to the 12.io function, but javascript won't allow the < tags, so I am unsure as to how to do this. I.e. function getIP() { return (THAT SCRIPT'S OUTPUT); } This is the topic this was supposedly a duplicate of, and it is very similar.     I'm trying to use javascript to give three divs a negative top position equal to their height. I've got it working, sort of (thanks to help from here!) but instead of calculating the height of each div and calculating the top position accordingly, each div is being assigned a negative top position of -367px: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { //Get height of footer popup var pHeight = $('footer ul li > ul').outerHeight(); //Calculate new top position based on footer popup height var nHeight = pHeight + "px"; $('footer ul li > ul').css({ //Change top position to equal height of footer popup 'top' : "-" + nHeight }); }); </script> I've tried this using .height, .outerheight, and even .getheight which someone mentioned on the Jquery documentation for .height. I also tried using an each statement, though it didn't seem to work; I may have written it incorrectly. In addition (if possible), I'd like the negative position to take into account the height of a content being generated using the css :after psuedo-property, though I can always manually add that in to the calculation if javascript has no way to access that. EDIT: Added a test page link.   • Rsync module path needs to be a home directory

    I'm trying to use rsync to backup windows servers to an rsync server. I'm having problems with rsync on the linux side though, it doesn't like symlinks. Currently I'm trying to use the module path of ~/backup, but rsync says that the chroot failed. I looked up what to do and saw that I needed to add the option use chroot = no and munge symlinks = no. That fixed the @ERROR: chroot failed but now it's telling me @ERROR: chdir failed and the log files say that there is no ~/backup directory. I know the user I'm authenticating with has a backup folder in his directory. How can I fix this? For reference I'm using a .NET port of rsync called NetSync and tunneling it over a port forwarded SSH connection generated with granados.

If I take out the Module.new code and if I only leave class_eval in that case also I will have a method called foo in self. What am I missing.

    I installed VMware-Player-4.0.4-744019.i386.bundle onto Ubuntu 11.10. This worked fine. I then upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 The upgrade appeared to be successful. The problem is that my nav bar, once collapsed, will not drop down when I click the dropdown icon.     I've wasted at least a half day of my company's time searching the Internet for an answer and I'm getting wrapped around the axle here. I can't figure out the difference between all the different technology choices (long polling, ajax streaming, comet, XMPP, etc.) and I can't get a simple hello world example working on my PC. I am running Apache 2.2 and ActivePerl 5.10.0. JavaScript is completely acceptable for this solution. All I want to do is write a simple Perl CGI script that when accessed, it immediately returns some HTML that tells the user to wait or maybe sends an animated GIF. Then without any user intervention (no mouse clicks or anything) I want the CGI script to at some time later replace the wait message or the animated GIF with the actual results from their query. I know this is simple stuff and websites do it all the time using JavaScript, but I can't find a single working example that I can cut and paste onto my machine that will work in Perl. Here is my simple Hello World example that I've compiled from various Internet sources, but it doesn't seem to work. When I refresh this Perl CGI script in my web browser it prints nothing for 5 seconds, then it prints the PLEASE BE PATIENT web page, but not the results web page. So the Ajax XMLHttpRequest stuff obviously isn't working right.   • How can I determine/use $(this) in js callback script

    I am using Rails and jQuery, making an ajax call initiated by clicking a link. I setup my application.js file to look like the one proposed here and it works great. The problem I'm having is how can I use $(this) in my say.. update.js.erb file to represent the link I clicked? I don't want to have to assign an ID to every one, then recompile that id in the callback script..   • Syncing WM6 <-> Evolution.... opensync-module-python missing?

    I'm trying to install opensync-plugin-synce to sync my wm6 phone with Evolution, but when I try (from synaptic, also with ap-get), is: Depende: opensync-module-python but it is not installable In fact, I haven't found opensync-module-python in repositories. Any hint? Is there any way to sync WM6 and Evolution (preferably without intermediate online syncs as Gmail, for instance)? Update: opensync-module-python exists in the repositories for previous versions of Ubuntu (mine is 10.10).... could I install it from there or would I ruin something? Update: should I mark this as impossible? Seems to be no way to sync WM6 phone with Evolution right now....
